- ZA will potentially make Karazhan skippable.
Where did you hear this? I heard the first Z'A encounter is a gear check to make skipping Karazhan impossible.

It was in an interview with Tigole. He said if the guild was good enough, they could probably bypass Karazhan and get into Z'A just on gear from 5-mans/heroics.

It's kind of funny that notion. I can accept that if a guild is good enough they could bypass certain types of content. But usually a guild is only considered "good enough" because they've already done that content and have the knowledge of the game and group skill to do it.
That aside, I don't know why any low-level guild would want to skip Kara anyway, I doubt that just heroic gear and ZA gear will fill everyone's slot for all classes for all specs, so there's still going to be empty slots to fill.
I could be wrong of course, but it doesn't sound like Blizzard's design philosophy to make an old instance completely obsolete due to a new one (excluding expansions of course :P)
Guilds in AQ40 still ran BWL for those elusive drakefang talismans etc and guilds in Naxx still ran AQ40 for regalias and Cthun loot, and so on.

However with raiding ceasing I decided to level an alt (to 4!) the other night. Pics shall be posted later of her rogueish hotness.
Fixed. :P
Yeah, that was a hell of a gap. Tier 2 pants off rag, then some 20 bosses later, T2.5 off Ouro! Get lost! Given most guilds got stuffed at Twin Emps, and even those that got past him didn't care too much for an optional boss (especially since once you'd killed Ouro's trash, you're basically at C'Thun anyway), it was a bit stupid.

I'd say that's just a normal render that he manually posed, not a WoW model. WoW models have set animations built into the file, and the game just plays them when necessary. The actual game doesn't animate anything.
StorminNorman
06-10-2007, 11:56 AM
Also, the WoW engine can handle much higher-polygon models than the game uses. There's a surprising amount of "future-proofing" in WoW.
Not to mention that, apparently, if Blizzard wanted, they could "drop in" a new graphics engine anytime they wanted without it breaking anything. They actually did this with the sound engine in 2.2.

Also, more specifically, is it possible to change the model used for the Tauren travel form or would that also change the Night Elf one too?

Lol. The way that you do it currently means that Blizz won't be able to remove it without completely changing the patching process. Unless they make the entire game run server-side, any changes they make will just be a stall.
Ruda- no, it won't. It's simple really, a model change only effects other objects that use the same model (including objects that use the same model but a different texture). Get MyWarcraftStudio and WoWModelViewer, makes it all much easier to work out.

So, we can change the models used. Can we actually change which model it looks for? I.E. The current travel form looks for the model of the Cheetah, can we make it so it looks for the model of a wolf instead, without actually changing the model of the Cheetah to now be a wolf?
TrinityJayOne
06-10-2007, 08:55 PM

So, after much thought I boiled down my alt choices to one of three classes:
Frost Mage: Versatile twitch-based class, and I haven't played an offensive class before. Quite strategic with a few crucial cooldowns moderating burst damage, kiting ability, two GCDs to handle and the relentless pursuit of perfection in CS timing.
Elemental Shaman: A class that walks the true hybrid line, balancing heals and defensive totems with some of the highest caster burst potential in the game. Top 5v5 players often say that an Elemental Shaman is the hardest class in the game to play well.
Rogue: A class simply built for PvP, with multiple viable specs. A simple joy in PvE, and able to dominate exceptionally well in solo world PvP.
In the end, I decided on a rogue. And just as one Blood Elf rogue dies (Guybrush), so another is born. Bare witness to the curves of Puscifer, the hottest Blood Elf rogue in town (sorry, Stormin'). Try not to be too aroused. I was originally opposed to "pretty" Blood elves until I realised I could chase that blonde wagon all day, and her symbolic phallic dagger.

In unrelated news, I've been playing my Night Elf rogue a lot lately, and have come to the belief that Blizzard needs to remodel Night Elves based on the Blood Elf/High Elf design. Right now there are pretty significant differences between them, despite technically being the same race. Obviously I'm not saying they should look exactly the same, but I think that the current NElf model is out of line with what other elves look like (and, if you look carefully, it's also somewhat out of line with artwork for the game).
Honestly I think all the old races could use a bit of a touch up and a few more polygons (the BElf/HElf and Draenei models have more polygons than the other races, apparently), but NElfs in particular are candidates for some fairly major changes.
Finally, can someone tell me why Tamaaya (http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Jubei%27Thos&n=Tamaaya) has 1200-odd more HP than Tamiya? (http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Frostmourne&n=Tamiya)

I just had a thought about the new plan to make 1/3rd healing count for free spell damage.
To my understanding, Blizzard are budgeting it into the healing gear as pure +spl. However, I am a Imp Divine Spirit Priest, and I get ~40-50 extra spell damage when I throw up DS in my damage gear. So when this change goes through, I wont get as much benefit as I first thought (1/3rd of 50 isnt a huge amount, but every bit helps). At any rate Id rather they added the bonus into a staple healing talent for each class (Such as Improved Healing, 15% off GHeal Heal and LHeal manacost) so no +healing is "wasted".

I may be wrong, but isn't +healing not actually being changed, so you don't lose anything and gain the 30% spell damage?
edit: your post is incredibly confusing - 1/3rd of 50 is almost nothing, yeah, but you're not getting that. You're getting 1/3rd of 1800 or whatever healing you have.
Sytadel
10-10-2007, 01:17 PM
Yeah, I'm not following you there either Splodey. Are you saying that in your +heal gear you're only doing marginally more damage than in your +dmg/heal gear? That's not really surprising, although personally I'm going to wear my healing gear when grinding for lower downtime (due to being able to heal myself better).
But to clarify... the change has nothing to do with spirit.
Gear that gives +90 heal will now also give +30 spell damage. This means as a priest, your total spell damage will be:
(30% of your +heal) + (10% of your spirit)
TSplodey
10-10-2007, 02:21 PM
To my understanding, Blizzard are budgeting it into the healing gear as pure +spl.
Im fairly certain I read it as this. If an item has 300 +heal on it, it will also have an equip bonus of 100 + spl dmg, which does not count towards its item budget. The problem that arises through this method is that it does not account for talents/buffs that increase your +healing without gear. Follow me now?
Of course if they do just make it a talent then theres nothing to worry about.
I admit it, I was caught up in the glamor of doing major damage. I was a tank with a boring job and I thought hey, those mages/rogues must have heaps of fun I'll get in on that.
But alas, I'm just shit as a dps warrior. I've learnt my lesson, no more bright ligths and damage meters for me........

I agreed until I got to the Warlock notes. :P Soul Siphon has been turned from a nice talent into yet another "increases dmg by n%" one. BORING. I wish arena had never come to pass; a single build excels there so they nerf that but in the process nerf a different tree for all other areas of the game. If SL/SL 'Locks (Soul Link/Siphon Life for those playing at home) are raping it up in the arena so bad, why not just leave Soul Siphon as it was but make it 31pts or deeper?
Strongly hoping this is to counteract some upcoming change of awesomeness for the expansion. Apart from that, some nice changes, especially the way spells are sent to the server. No more rejected casts!

Server transfers have had a history, in the past, of being open for very small periods of time. I transferred my Druid to Jubei'thos - literally - within a < 24 hour window. Unless you have some really pressing issues, I'd transfer ASAP.

People using Pitbull- you know how when someone in the party gets a debuff, their unit frame goes bright pink/green/whatever based on the debuff type? Is there any way to make the color less in-my-face? I turned up the transparency on the debuff colors in the options, but I think it's only for the debuff icons themselves because it didn't do shit to the actual frames. This is using the "Aura" module by the way, if "AuraAlt" is better then let me know.
Vindik8or
14-10-2007, 11:11 AM
Not that I know of. I use the garishness of the colours as an incentive to get rid of them (they only pop up for debuffs that you can remove).
TrinityJayOne
14-10-2007, 12:09 PM
Yeah major bummer, the colors you can change but for some reason it ignores the transparency setting. A few other Qs-
-Is there a way to get timers under the buffs?
-Any way to change the cast bar font settings? Or the string it uses?
-Couldn't the option tree structure be a little more organised?
-Is there a way to manually choose exactly where buff and debuff icons go?

I can move them via the options, I just don't think the choices are very good. Eg- having them set to "split" but putting them both on the "top" setting just has them overlay eachother instead of putting the debuffs on a row above the buffs, or vise versa. I have it now so that the buffs populate from the left and debuffs from the right, but I'd rather just have them both on top but in separate rows. Still can't find timers or a setting to shrink the cast bar font either.

It actually used to be a lot better before 2.2, when Rock was introduced it made the organisation quite terrible... there's not much you can do except get used to it.

Can you just disable split then set it to "top"? If you're not putting them in different areas then you shouldn't need split.
Still can't find timers or a setting to shrink the cast bar font either.
Probably not the solution you want to hear, but I just disabled the cast bar module altogether and use Quartz instead, which is quite powerful and flexible but also remarkably easy to configure and bug-free. It also has the all important lag meter, although it's not that important for druids.
Personally I've found PitBull to be too much work for too little gain, I just use Xperl now and the only thing I miss is the ability to have really big, obvious health bars.

I'll post pics later, but for a character I've done nothing but dailys and casual PvP with, he's looking pretty fierce.

According to the Euro WoW forums, distract has been buffed incredibly for rogues. When used on an enemy player now, that enemy player cannot move outside distracts AoE for 10 seconds!
Any rogue/ranged dps combo will now easily rip apart a team of warriors or rogues (assuming you get the jump on them) in 2 vs 2. Too bad this sounds too good to be true and Blizzard will decide that distract is already overpowered and will now only have a 10% success rate.

bugger. One really awesome (i thought) idea i had a while ago would be to have a massive horde raid (on a pvp server, 'course) with like as many lvl 70's as humanly possible, and have them hide inside the menethil to theramore ship, or some other ship path and then bust out when they reach the destination, and it'd be RARR and then that'd be so fun.
Or make a massive alliance raid, all get on the zeppelin to orgrimmar and just completely own everyone there. Of course you'd probably need like 80+ people to do that, but if something of that magnitude could be organised, the amount of ownage that could happen would be big and awesome.

While more or less everyone on the server is running ZA, my rogue is undergeared for it, so I decided to head out and see what's happening in Dustwallow Marsh. This is all alliance-side stuff, as I don't have a horde character on the PTRs.
- There's a new quest chain that starts at Sentry Point, just outside Theramore. It's a new chapter in the Defias questline, and it has some very interesting implications for the politics surrounding Stormwind. Hopefully this will lead somewhere in the next few patches.
- There's a bunch of "Deserter Agitators" running around Theramore. These are guard mobs that appear to be talking to the regular Theramore guards. They're unhappy about Jaina's alliance with Thrall. They've also taken the tower at Lost Point. There's a quest here, but I'm yet to find out how to start it.
- In what is the single most important change to WoW since launch, Tabetha's hut now has a road that leads right up to it.
- Mudsprocket is in the southwest corner of the zone. I've only just got there, so I haven't checked out the quests yet, but it looks pretty interesting. For the curious, the goblins are all part of the Gadgetzan faction, and not a new Steamwheedle faction as some thought they might be.

Mudsprocket is going to need some serious changes before it goes live. Currently, the guards are level 55 non-elites, and their coverage is... terrible. The town was rendered unusable for a time by a single level 70 orc rogue today, and I managed to kill a warlock (who was attacking another alliance character) in the inn with no retribution from the guards or other NPCs.
Why it doesn't have 67 elite guards like all the other goblin towns is a mystery.
Also note that Mudsprocket is really only a small-ish part of the whole Dustwallow revamp. There's several other locations now that provide quests for both factions.
It will make a great alternative to Stranglethorn Vale for high-30s/low-40s levelling.
Oh, and the dragons around Onyxia's lair are no longer elite, inline with the changes to world elites in general.

That's one of the problems with WoW though- transport is very fast and it never takes long for the cavalry to arrive. When a bunch of people try to take out a faction leader, whether it's half a raid or 2 full ones, they'll only have about 10mins to get that leader down before half the server has heard about it and zerged them.

Also, a couple of my gear pieces have had upgrades, including Icemetal Barbute and Carapace of Tuten'khash. Also, Sang'thraze The Deflector is now "Unique-Equipped".
Also, "The Ancient Egg" is no longer an elite quest.

After I had done a few runs today (got both caster rings for Moo :D), I hopped on Shaanqy for some fun cos there were lots of Alliance and all the Horde were being pussies. Yeah I got my hat after about 10 runs yesterday, pretty fun boss and not bad epics from it.
Now question: is 121 hit rating (approx 8%) worth respeccing to Fury? Even with 3 points in Precision thats only 11% chance to hit thats still 14% miss rate. Now on top of that, the Ragesteel 2 set bonus has the additional 20hit rating but it means major gimping of my current gear (probably replace shoulders and one other thing) untill I can get some sweet T4 action.

Yeah, the horsemen event is very fun. Nice to see Blizzard doing some voice acting. Wish it was a bit harder though - we did it with a 69 warrior, and it's meant to be comparable to a heroic boss!

Question for Protadins:
In 2.3, would you choose Combat Expertise (+10 Expertise, +10% Stamina) over Ardent Defender (30% damage reduction when health <35%)?

StorminNorman
20-10-2007, 02:00 PM
Oh yeah. Mind you, it probably didn't help that I'm level 48 and she's level 51 and that I had no way to keep interrupting her heals as a prot paladin.
Apart from that, though, I did manage to solo the Ancient Egg quest, just to see if a level 48 Paladin could. Took about two hours all up, but if you're looking for a "solo instance", the new Jintha'Alor is as close as you'll get for now.

20-10-2007, 02:45 PM
So I take it you want Imp SoR? Tbh I dont think its worth it currently (including come 2.3 when the Prot tree, to put it quite simply, will be bloated with talents.). Sure the 10% bonus Int wouldnt hurt, but its not worth it for the stuff you can get in the other trees.
Right now I am going to be 0/49/12, but next patch its going to be hard to decide. Pursuit of Justice is going to have 1/2/3% to avoid spells next patch, as well as being buffed to 5/10/15% movespeed. Reducing spell damage taken is never a bad thing, and neither is mobility as a tank. Problem is, spending 15 points in ret leaves barely enough for what I want in Prot. I suppose if I get geared enough I could take points out of Anticipation (maybe?).
So long story short, I dont think theres enough talent point love to go 10 into Holy and still have the good Prot/Ret talents.

I'm going to almost have to go 0/61/0 next patch =|

20-10-2007, 04:11 PM
I'm probably more interested in Imp Judgement than Imp SoR, to be honest, as Imp Judgement is a huge gain in threat for a Protadin (assuming you spam JoR like I tend to.) I was simply working on the idea that Imp SoR gives me more damage from SoR, and more damage = more threat = more better.
Of course, if you know otherwise, feel free to say something.
EDIT: Quick research seems to show that dropping reckoning is the popular choice.
TSplodey
20-10-2007, 05:18 PM
Well imo Imp Judgement > Imp SoR for sure. Aside from the extra threat from extra JoR's, being able to change Judgements more often is never a bad thing.
And yeah Ive noticed Reckoning is the popular choice to drop next patch, which makes me a sad panda.
StorminNorman
20-10-2007, 07:06 PM
Someone mentioned that the problem with Reckoning is that it actually gets less useful as you stack up on avoidance. I can't quite figure out how this works, to be honest.
For whatever reason, I haven't taken Anticipation, so that's where I'll be getting the extra points I need from.

There is now a Mortal Strike effect (Healing done on the target reduced by 50%, Duration 10 seconds) on Aimed Shot. This is a physical effect.
The min range to shot has been reduced from 8 yards to 4 yards. The "dead zone" is now pretty much removed.
Ugnh, yeah...
However, I'm not too sure how useful it'll be if it's only on Aimed Shot. We'll see I guess, better than nothing. The deadzone change is huge though.

Well info regarding BG/Heroic dailys is now up on PTR; Heroic dailys give 25g and 2 badges, and require you to kill the end-boss. Not too shabby, good but not enough to make them preferable for gold farming but definetly incentivises the obscure heroics. More interesting is that battleground dailys, which just require a win in a random BG, give 12g, 3 marks, and 2,000 honor. For the record this means 30 mins - 1 hour of PvP a day will net you an epic a week, and pretty much the full set in 6-8. Bit excessive IMO but I'm not a fan of the grind, so you won't hear me complaining (aside from just then).

Should be able to keep the settings, go into the PitBull folder in Addons and there should be a text file or something similar that has the configured settings you have applied. Copy the settings or the file in whole, then paste it back in when update the addon itself.
If the file keeps the version as well you will need to do some creative cutting and pasting into the new settings file to make it the current version. Hope this helps you :-)
Also used to play on Greymane as a 70 Feral Druid, but stopped playing one day because I was sick of other players whispering for a heal/wanting to heal in a dungeon/or telling me how to tank.

I'm pretty sure AddOn settings are stored inside the WTF folder, so in theory it shouldn't be a problem to nuke the AddOns folder. I've done it one or two times and not had any trouble.
