I'm yet to start Final Fantasy XIII, but I will be going into it with an open mind. That kind of thinking worked wonders for me when I played Infinite Undiscovery (could that name be any worse?).

Apparently the beginning of Infinite Undiscovery is the worst part of the game, or indeed, the worst part of any game.

But I still could not be bothered playing past it.

I actually got to the second half of Infinite Undiscovery (trying to remember if there were 2 discs as I don't own it anymore)...but the story wasn't there for me. I ronically I keep thinking that Square should have combined the story from The Last remnant with the combat system from infinite Undiscovery...that way I would have had 1 completed game and not two incomplete, traded games.

Shouldn't have to grind, but if i remember correctly the preferred method of beefing them up is spending all your cp in the main role they play in fights which should be enough.

Maybe..

good luck! ^_^

I gotta stop reading the posts on sankaku about the copy paste nature of FFXIV's maps/world. While the idiotic comments by people are hilarious it is becoming a little disheartening.

As for a rather late response to your question /backslash, it's gonna be $US12.99 a month with an extra $US3 per month for each additional character (but you only really need 1 anyway).

I have to ask...does anyone know which region we're being included in for this? US or Europe?

From what I've heard it's going to be global servers? Not bad for us considering they'll be based in Asia. Also you have to pay extra for more characters? =/ I know your characters can be multiple classes but it's going to suck when you have friends who start playing and you want to start a character with them.

Not if they do what they've done with FFXI where you can simply scale your character to your friend's level. I'm pretty sure they'd implement it in xxiv, otherwise they're pretty silly.

Gysahl server is full and off the list, it sucks cos I still have 2 or more friends who haven't joined.

Confusing as shit game, I'd like if there was some kind of direction to it. Everything I've learnt about the game was just by guessing. I don't even know if I'm doing it right.

Everything has a 2 second delay to it (not battle, thats pretty good) and now that I'm an attack class, it's making everything much easier.

Still not fully taken by the game, but will enjoy the free trial it came with.

Not really. Same as us. Actions are a little delayed but it's not too harmful, plus it could come down to the huge amount of players in the starting areas at the moment. Trying to push through as fast as I can before the full release. If I'm not mistaken the servers are located in Asia so just about everybody is in the same boat.

Also Rambo, good news:

"We previously informed you that character creation on certain worlds had been suspended, but we are pleased to announce that character creation on the Cornelia World, Gysahl World, Mysidia World, Figaro World, Selbina World, Lindblum World has now been reinstated as the congestion in the world has eased up.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused."

I only picked up my copy of FFXIII a week ago; I left it that long simply because, as a FF diehard, I thought the overwhelming hate for that game was warranted because it was coming from all directions. But personally, I really have no major issues with the game. It seems to me to be a synthesis of FFX and FFXII, games which I enjoyed but would not consider favorites. And I think it's better than FFVII, so it's not personally the worst FF I've played. I'm a little miffed that the best we're getting on current gen consoles is something we experienced on the PS2, but overall I'm enjoying it. But the aforementioned FF diehard I'm probably willing to overlook things other gamers may take issue with.

If this means we get a game with more of the things people wanted out of Final Fantasy XIII that sounds okay to me. Don't really want more Final Fantasy does Monster Hunter, though (ie. Gran Pulse - not the setting itself, just the way that section of the game was structured). An FFXIII sequel will likely be on a Gran Pulse full of townships and stuff, it could be pretty good.

That said, I don't really have a strong desire for any more Final Fantasy.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned XIII Versus or Type-0 yet. I'm quite a fan of the action RPG dynamic and both games appear to show promise. Hell, it's as if Sqare-Enix is actually working on 3 "proper" FF games at once; rather than their usual steady diet of remakes, Kingdom Hearts spinoffs and budget chocobo games.

Yes, yes, I know they're still doing those too, but it's nice to see a range of products that appear to have the company's full attention for a change.

XIII Versus is being done by the Kingdom Hearts team, and the gameplay looks to be an evolved version of that. I didn't really care much for the KH story, but some tweaks to the gameplay and a compelling universe could easily sway me.

As for Type-0, it appears to be somewhat based off the gameplay of Crisis Core, which was quite decent.

So Square-Enix let them work on a game for 6 months, pulled it, kept all the assets, and then decided not to pay them anything for the trouble? F--- Square-Enix. I don't care if GRIN's performance was sub-par, not paying your bills is bullshit. Furthermore? Canceling a project after six months because you weren't impressed with the results? That's rich, coming from a company that worked on FFXIII for almost two years without a single playable concept of the game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_XIII#Development) and still had the audacity to release a trailer for it. Not to mention releasing a final version of an MMO that was so bad that it was pulled back into beta and given away for free (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_XIV#Reshuffle).

Don't get me wrong, GRIN's history is pretty mediocre, and it's highly likely that it would have sucked had they finished it. I just find it incredible that a studio with such incredible development woes of its own can be so judgmental so quickly, and that they didn't even bother to pay for the work they commissioned.

What a performance!! The two hours just flew by in a flash. Got a bit teary eyed when Liberi Fatali was performed along with the in-game footage...I played that game 11 years ago when I was still in high school! Yeah that brought back some memories. The FFVI Opera was just brilliant, probably my favourite piece. The FFXIV songs were pretty good, too bad most people, including myself, haven't played that game (for good reasons). One-Winged Angel as the encore wrapped things up very nicely. My gf commented that it was the first time she saw guys screaming like girls, lol.

The reception Uematsu got was rock star-like. (think he gets groupies?)

Saw someone cosplaying Rinoa, that was pretty cool. Should've took a picture...

Unfortunately the merchandise were all sold out by the time I went to get them, but I knew I could just buy the mp3s on the Distant Worlds website so didn't really sweat it.

Yep, it was completely awesome. I loved it! Even my partner, who got dragged along with no prior knowledge of it all, enjoyed it (though she said if there weren't videos playing she may have fallen asleep o_o).

Uematsu is no rock star, he's a god! I reckon he'd totally get groupies, especially as he's part of The Black Mages!

Yeah, by the time I got to the stand (when there weren't a bazillion people around it) it was all sold out too. I wanted a shirt!

I also got a shitload of street passes. Zelda and NSMB Wii puzzles are done :D

FFXIII-2 E3 trailer looks pretty sweet. However that was the same for XIII and that wasn't up to square standards (well it is up to current square standards I guess). looks interesting that noel and serah (and lightning) seem to be the only playable characters with you being able to get monsters in your party.

I wish they'd just focus all their work on Versus XIII instead. I'm just not interested or invested in the characters and the world of XIII. I'll still check out XIII-2 if it gets positive reviews, but if it's Dirge of Cerberus standards? No thanks.

Dear God I hope it's not Dirge of cerberus standards. Only square game that I've ever 7 day returned. But nah I'm also kinda wishing they just focused on Versus-XIII because the last video that was released looked stunning and the combat looked like what FFXII should of had.

Put final Fantasy XIII back in the system today to try and make some progress on the final chapter while I waited for the XIII-2 demo to download. Seriously after the 1.5 hours I put into the demo I really wish they hadn't made XIII because XIII-2 feels like a crisper game. There are a few changes with XIII-2 that I'm not a fan of, like the modified level system, which while having some improvements doesn't work quite as well.

I should really finish XIII just so I have the accomplishment of stomaching through the game. I don't want to just watch the final cutscene on youtube.

The FFXIII-2 demo shits all over FFXIII. Yes, worse graphics/music, but the game actually has variety, NPCs, monsters, exploration, NPCs.

FFXIII was a decent game, but the questing and exploration was crap. When it was linear, it was pretty good, but when it opened up it was bad. FFXIII-2 mixes these and gets it right.

This game is going to be awesome.

The battle system is pretty much the same as XIII but there is a few new tricks to the system and the QTE events during battle cutscenes help to liven it up.

Yeah, I'm relatively impressed with the meaty demo, it should be a fun game and deliver much more of what I want out of the series than Final Fantasy XIII did. I'm expecting the plot to be completely nonsensical and devoid of any particularly likeable characters, though. >_>

QTE events during battle cutscenes

Oh ****.

The ones during bossfights are kind of dumb, but the player initiated ones aren't really much different to the various sort of button-prompt minigames that have been found in the series for the last 10-15 years. Except that they're probably more basic.

I tried the demo yesterday... and... enjoyed it?!?!?!

Much more animated and fun than FFXIII, throws you right into a big town filled with characters, battling is similar but being able to switch between leads and use different monsters to battle alongside makes it a bit more light-hearted and enjoyable. Serah is the hottest non-existent person ever. Game is still pretty, even though not as much as XIII.

I only experienced limited dialogue, but it was far less cringe-worthy than FFXIII's, where every line had me facepalming.

So... people are actually playing the game, yeah?

I was pretty skeptical originally as all the lead up trailers and gameplay footage weren't really all that enticing. But the demo convinced me that the game had turned things around. Bought it on thursday and finished it last night... loved it. It's not perfect, and it did seem a little easy, but it felt far more classically FF to me and did a great job of addressing the problems of XIII. Now I've got to go find all the bloody fragments and see if I can't sort out a platinum trophy.

Also, having a party full of Chocobos, brilliant :D

FF: I guess I probably did play it a little obsessively, but the main storyline felt pretty short in comparison to the other games. I hardly did any of the fragment stuff though, think I only had around 20-30 when I finished.

VanAce: If you are an FF fan then yes. If you aren't, this game isn't going to change your opinion :D But yeah, it is a vast improvement over XIII.

It's pretty dang good and I'm actually quite enjoying the story, even if it is a little nonsensical. The only thing I'll say is that it's pretty easy, so far I'm basically crushing every boss in my way and random encounters regularly see me pressing X until a 5 star summary screen shows up.

markymark

Agreed. I only had trouble with the last boss because I didn't have any wound potions with me. And I got the big game hunter last night pretty easily.

Just finished FFXIII-2. Clocked up 35 hours but I kept getting caught up with side stuff. I must say all the fights were fairly easy. the only fights that ever gave me difficulty were the Caius fights because he kept pulling out some crazy moves.

I don't think I could be an more pissed with a company for an ending. Apparently those 3 little words at the end are just for the extra endings in the game and no indication of anything to follow.

I really hope they do a sequel since they already have registered FFXIII-3 or at least make a dlc that continues things. I mean it's screwed up that Serah is dead, the powers of chaos are running rampant and Lightning is apparently crystallized on etro's throne after losing to Caius. what the hell ending is that
