Easy, just goto the 'My Games' tab, right click on the game you want to stop updating and hit 'Pause updating'

Liking the current logo too... although the black text needs anti-alisiasing. Nice clean, simple design. The lightning works really well as a background without dominating the space.

Just a noob question. If I want to transfer my Steam account from one PC to another, do I first unistall Steam and all the game files on my old PC and then install Steam on my new PC and log onto my account? Will all my games be avaliable to download/install on my new PC?

As long as you keep your account with Steam, you will still have all your games when you in install Steam on to your computer. So basically: Get rid of steam from one computer, then dowlaod it onto your other computer. Sign in and bam. You can still play your games that you have on there already. I think that answeres your question.

First thing I did was jump onto Steam and purchase The Longest Journey and Dreamfall, since those two are the only games I've really wanted to play on PC. Downloading them now. Any other recommendations? Ive got my eye on Pirates, Trackmania United, and the Sam & Max episodes.

So what mods do you guys play or is it all CSS and TF2?
I play SourceForts pretty often, I'll give a brief description for anyone interested.
Its CTF with classes but is broken up into two sections - the Build phase and the Combat phase.
You get a long initial Build phase where you choose pieces of blocks and build up walls using the gravity gun and your own character's weight which you can freeze in place when in the right spot. A good fort doesn't allow the opposite team to get in but allows you to get out easily and also has a spot that you can deposit the flag through to easily reach the other side.
The Combat phase is just CTF but you have to try break through the other persons wall choosing from a bunch of classes. Engineers for example can disassemble walls.
After the combat phase you have a short amount of time to repair/make adjustments in another build phase and its back into combat again.

Download and play the free Trackmania (Non-steam) before you buy the latest. I thought it sounded cool, but it just wasn't my kind of game.

Actually I don't think we've ever had an important match. Infact, apart from joining the TF2 server I'm in, I've never had anyone try to interact with me.

A mate of mine just got the Orange Box and he's having a problem where when he starts TF2, it loads the Valve/steam logo thing, then just closes, the game just goes away. I don't know his exact computer stats, I know he has an ATI Radeon 9600 or something, and his computer runs games like COD4 perfectly.

He's updated all his drivers, in fact one of them didn't install properly and he has to reinstall windows which he is pretty pissed about. Anyone had this problem and know the fix?

It won't screw them up, Steam will still remember you games list from your account, but you'll have to re-download the games again.

Steam has a backup feature, as long as you use that or just backup the files for your games manually, you wont have to redownload everything. Uninstalling will not deactivate games from your account, once purchased they are yours forever.

TF2 new map out! Gold Rush, is awesome, basically the blue team has to pile near a cart with a bomb on it and the more people near it the faster it moves towards the goal. While the red team try to keep them away from the bomb kart.

Also Medic achievements and new weapons are out too! start playing as a medic now!

New syringe gun that gives you +3hp when ever you hit! Awesome!.

i'm trying to log into my steam account. I cannot log in and it tells me that i might have issues with my Internet connection or the steam servers. I'm fairly certain that my internet connection is fine. I have requested several times to change password and each time it says that it was done successfully yet i still cannot log in. I have troubleshooted my router and firewall and have none of the known problem programs running.

what can i do?

steam update mentions that mods for source games will be available free directly from steam and act like any other game that you download from the service, will launch from your my games page and receive auto updates and support stats and achievements, this is pretty awesome for added longevity of the games, i like the idea especially as i would like to play the mods that have been made but if they arent accesable with a few clicks of the mouse i couldnt be bothered. You just go to multiplayer, online, make and account and good to go. No verification needed, just choose a user name and shit and you're good to go. My username is Dunkurtin, should organise a bit of coop sometime.

Yeah I use it on my laptop and desktop. It was a bit buggy (ie stealing some key bindings in game, so I couldn't press <Enter> for instance) but that cleared up pretty quickly and it works fine now.

Found out what was wrong with my steam. Something to do with windows forcing it into compatability mode. Anyway when i tried to update to beta it ****ed up the installation and corrupted pretty much my entire steam folder. So i had to reinstall which was when i found out about the compatability thing and googled how to fix it. Unfortunately I have lost all installed games so i have a lot of downloading ahead of me. =[
