Oh come on, as if I would try to harm you and your sweet... sweet... panzer... dragoon... saga...

what's the condish? it looks pretty good. clean. well kept manual. no outer box? hey, it's in better condition than mine and I paid over two hundred *sobs*

I can't believe that was sitting in a cash converters for $14 *shakes head*

Does this beat Ezri's record for most valuable game acquired at lowest price? This wins my vote.

Condition's decent enough, not perfect, but then few Saturn stuff is. The cases themselves are pretty alright, still have that glossy feel. Both have a couple minor plastic nics, but that can be replaced. Only real defect is a tiny black spot on the actual sleeve of the 2nd which came from a black marker which was used to price the game the last time it was sold at a pawn shop it seems (it came off from the plastic with some rubbing, but had $20).

The manual's fairly well kept cept the cover has a couple creases here and there from being read through and just a tiny dog ear in the bottom right corner.

Discs are pretty good and better than most Saturn games I see around. Discs 1 and 2 have a few light surface scratches, whilst it seems they never got very far as 3&4 are practically mint.

So I guess that makes me feel pretty darn good about the conition, better than before at least, was just happy to have the game.

As I told a mate, here's how I got it:

"Every so often I go on Cashies runs, checking out a few Cash Converters stores around Adelaide. I had to drive a fair bit out of the city last week so I was stopping at a few on the way home. I know the people who work at a couple of them and was just stopping at the usual one I go to before heading home. I knew I wouldn't find anything, so I was paying out a mate there saying how crap his stock was. He then asked what I was after and asked if I was after Sega Saturn stuff, as they'd just got a fair bit of it in. So he said he'd go out back and check what they had. He said there were a fair few, inparticular one that was like 2 games with 4 discs. I was like oh my god at that stage. He then went out back and wrote the titles down and sure enough PDS was there. Pity cause of new laws they have to hold items for like 10 days before they can sell them. So today was that day and lucky I got there in the morning, because whilst he said he'd put them aside when they went out, today was his day off. So yep, PDS is now mine. It doesn't have the outer box though, but still, as a result of it being in 2 game cases they charged it as 2 games. Could have got them down to $7 for it if I tried ;) "

So I guess you could say it was never on the shelf really, but it did get passed through them properly, it just got snapped up instantly.

Which was Ezri's big find again? Has slept (Edit: damn I must be tired, slipped...) my mind.

I don't have any one thing to rival PDS, but I've gotten dozens of bargains over the years that are worth quite a bit.

Awesome find NotMatt, reminds me I should go into Cashies more often.
I've been going to Cash Converters (and other pawn shops) for over 4 years solid now and I've never found a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga. I am not giving hope though!

Congratulations Not Matt.

Now don't be a douchebag and put it up on eBay - you got a decent game for a decent price. Things like that are worth keeping.

Dr Skinnybones
12-10-2006, 12:29 AM
The game itself is really nice to play and for $14 I can't see why you wouldnt keep it. (whereas I question whether I should have paid $200+ for it regularly and considr recouping the cost)

Don't worry.. I'm yet to sell anything at all on ebay, I've been saying I would and in some cases buying games to sell but have never done it. I don't think I'll ever really start selling my collection off until I need to move out... I bet my parent's would shocked to see the little nest egg it'd bring selling it all off.

There's not a lot you can say about such a find, I mean it's annoying really, but at least it gives some hope that such finds are still out there and haven't all been snapped up just yet. Oh and Ezri I went through some of your old purchases..... DC arcade stick for $10, I hate you :).

I've been going to 2nd hand shops for close to 15 years and the halcyon days of regular great finds have diminished significantly over the past few years mainly for 2 reasons...e-Bay as an outlet for sellers and the fact that the more retro the item the less it is bought for by 2nd hand stores. I've never seen a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga in the wild (apart from one I found on the 2nd hand shelf at the now defunct Blacktown Hi Tech World for $40). Ironically this was a month after I bought one brand new for $69.95 on its release date from Gamemap at Chatswood. There was an online store based in Baulkham Hills which specialised in Saturn games and which sold about 50 copies at the time . The only other copy I saw new was in EB at Warringah Mall...I thought about getting it , but assumed it was available at all EB stores and that it would find its way into all major retailers. That never happened of course , and from talking to numerous game retailers at the time the print run in Australia in my estimation was anything from 500 to 2000 .

The strangest place I've found Saturn games was at a Red Spot Special store about 6 years ago...they had Burning Rangers and Steep Slope Sliders for $12.95 each as well as Panzer Dragoon II for $10 (which was a common find at a few discount stores at the time).

Also, more often than not - your opinion fails, lover of Beetle Adventure Racing. Thats probably true. Still - I past the Gotcha Force test recently. SO Im not TOTALLY insane (see UC1 and stompbrother for an example of bonkers beyond belief)

Not really a LOVER of Beetle Adventure Racing (licked the cart like ONCE) anyway. I had to buy it again cause my PAL version went to shit (unexplainable faulty audio whenever entering a cave - and no Im not talking about the echo. LOL).

UC1
22-11-2006, 09:03 PM
Well I'm not as bonkers as Stompy. I rate GF 7/10, which is the lowest score along with DOAX, MK shaolin monks, JSRF and Virtua Cop DX. I wouldn't sell it tho. I also have 30+ games I haven't rated, there's bound to be a few I just plain won't like at all (fatal frame 1&2 seem that way, possibly the metal gear games. gg sales).

BTW CCC2 is out in the USA now. I hear that Super Turbo has an easy mode for total noobs, with moves like forward+punch for fireball, down+forward+punch for uppercut. Sonic booms can be done without charge, so it's completely broken. Might be alrightish for playing against people who can't do basic moves, most of my mates still fall into that category.

And I've been searching youtube for the tutorial video, I don't think anyone's put it up yet.

Mega Drive 1, all cables, with an original Master System convertor (with the card slot, hooray!) along with about 8 different, crappy, aftermarket controllers, and the following games:
Pga Tour 3
Fifa 95
Rugby 95
Road Rash 2
Desert Strike
Super Tennis (Master System)

Urban Strike

Pga European Tour
Super Monaco GP II

I bought that on the release date for $110 AUD from play-asia.

Good game. So its worth it in that sense. I wouldnt pay $280 for it but then again if it retains its value its an investment as much as anything else (youre better off than had you paid RRP for 3 recent crap games that will be worth about $20 each in a year).

I sold my Border Down LE a while back. Wish Id kept it now. lol

And if you want some positive reinforcement for what appears to be ridiculous ebay spending then Id say this. Dont feel silly blowing $300 bucks on what brings you happiness when you piss away more than that on rent and bills every oither day. As long as youre not starving or hurting anyone (ie your kids are starving) its all good ;)

And if said item cost that much then what can you do? The price is the price. As long as you looked into teh going rate before you splurged you did all that u could.

When it feels like an old console. It's newer than the PS2 by two years, and we aren't exactly relegating the PS2 to retro just yet.

I'm sorry but the console with Halo 2 on it is...retro? Nuh uh.

The younger you are, the older things seem.

Once the next gen (Wii/PS3/360) is in full swing and all the new platforms are out, we can possibly start re-evaluating whether PS2/XB/GCN is welcome in this forum.

For now, get some perspective people! Atari, NES, Mega Drive - these system are truly retro!

I think the easiest way to define when a system has become retro is once the console and it's game can no longer be found new in stores. New xboxes are hard to come by but games are a dime a dozen.

ka-hem. My efforts of slicing through the jungles of Queanbeyan rewarded me with a small dojo, tucked away between a restaraunt and dick smith. Inside, behind a glass case, was a Game Boy Colour cartridge, named 8 in 1 Colour, by Sachen. I promptly made a deal with the master to buy the game for 8 dollars.

The game is comprised of 8 games, which I shall now list"
Four absolutely awesome SHMUPS. An average Lemmings rip off named Ants. A bizzarre adventure game where the objective is to, well, Judging by the name 'Flea War' kill all the enemies pixels (the game plays terribly, but the lack of effort is hilarious). There are some other games, but I can't remember them right now. Bugger, just searching google yielded no results for the game whatsoever.

UPDATE: Sachen is apparently a Taiwanese company who creates unlicencensed games for the game boy. FABULOUS.

The sound on ecco cd is sensational though, it makes it kinda worth it. And there is no denying it's one of the best looking MD games, at least in my opinion.
GT once had 6 used copies of Shenmue, along with 2 unopened copies, all selling for $100 a pop. Really odd. They seem to think that even though they have that many, they can still charge so much for them. And an unopened one is worth the same as a used one. I tend to walk out annoyed most of the time. VERY good work there, is the Game Gear in good cond.?

It works very well, but it's quite scuffed/scratched. Not that it matters, I have two other in physically better condition (although one has a dodgy power socket and the other is completely dead).

When I get around to it, I'll probably cannibalise all three into something decent.

Also if anyone's thinking of getting a copy from playasia, should probably make it your next purchase, I think they're running out of copies.

Sonic CD looks awesome from what I've played so far, but they changed the spin dash a bit, it's gonna take some getting used to. I played a few of the other games, they all seem pretty rubbish. I might play all the way through Sonic 2 on Game Gear tho, cos I must've finished it a million times when I was a little kid.

EDIT: Hmm... Sonic CD doesn't actually seem very good...

The first level starts out in the usual style of Green Hill Zone, then they go to a generic mechanical level with some pinball flippers and stuff... then every level afterwards is pretty much the same. It's all just a mess of pipes, bumpers, springs and spikes. It's like it was randomly generated by a level editor. And they have alternate past and future variations, but it's just a pallete swap with some walls missing or added. This is garbage.

Well... it's not that bad, but nowhere near as good as Sonic 2, 3 & Knuckles.

Well, yesterday I unlocked SoR2, but it took a lot longer than expected. I did everything they said you have to do at gamefaqs, but it only unlocked yesterday after a decent multiplayer sesh. So I'm not sure what you specifically have to do. Apparently after unlocking SoR2, you just have to play it, then SoR3 unlocks, but that hasn't happened yet. I guess it will eventually.

And it does play exactly as expected. The only thing worth pointing out is that there's a black border around the screen, maybe a little thinner than the ones on the gameboy player games. Makes it look less pixelated, and it wouldn't be a problem unless you have a small TV.

Sonic CD is worth playing for the music alone. Its also kind of cool how, to complete the game properly, you have to go back in time on every stage and smash certain things so the future is clean and unpolluted.

Anyway, I recently acquired Wonderdog and The Terminator, the last two games I needed to finish my Mega CD collection.

It was a bit of a gamble as there was no description of the condition of either
two, (same seller) but to my absolute joy, both were brand new AND SEALED!!

But they weren't just your average titles, they were all those German PAL copies of games that only came out in NTSC. I managed to pick up Front Mission 2, Kirbys Dreamland 3 and Mario Kart for $25. (I know Mario Kart came out here but its still worth mentioning).

Frame Gride (DC) - $29.95

Was in my local GameTraders and saw a game that I thought could be the DC Virtual On (wasn't sure of the name) so I grabbed it.

Turns out its not Virtual On at all, but is similar with the fighting mech's and what ever.
It's made by From Software so it allows you to customise your mech much like Armored Core except using gems you win in duels.
It controls a little clunkily but I'm willing to give it some more time.

Oh and its all in Japanese but its easy enough to get around the menus and figure out what's going on.

And its not like old arcade cabinets, when at least youre playing the original arcade board as the designers intended. Putting a Dreamcast in that awful thing is akin to hanging the Mona Lisa above a toilet. Why would you (want to).

So no. I reckon you dont win.
