^ Haha, those Prince Naseem games and Hybrid Heaven have been there for months.
Hybrid Heaven has been sitting there for over two years actually, ever since they got the whole states stock of various N64 games.
I always wanted this game but I stopped dropping in about a year ago with their refusal to lower the price from rrp.
One thing for sure is that it's not the amazing game N64 magazine(UK) hyped it up to be.

N64 Controller (Green) - $5
Picked this one up in a second-hand store today and noticed that the stick is well jiggered, wobbling about everywhere. I haven't got my N64 set up so I can't test it, but I'd guess this is Not A Good Thing - any way to fix such a problem?

If I had to import a single thumbstick from HK, I'm pretty sure cost more than what the controller ran me :D
Not really, both Play-Asia and Lik-Sang have extremely cheap shipping costs.
My Sonic Pocket Adventure's shipping cost was about $1.80 AU.

So replacement's the only way to go, eh?
Well, I do come across N64 controllers in stores or at markets with perfect joysticks - more often than I'd expect too.

09-04-2005, 11:27 PM
But there's no way to repair this one I have in my possession right now?
Well, aside from the replacement stick...no.
I was suggesting you could get the stick out of another controller.

It doesn't seem that much different to the first at the moment.
GT2 is a lot different, and it's currently my favourite GT (haven't played 4 yet).
It boasts about double the amount of cars and tracks of GT1, and there's way more, more championships and special events and the controls/handling are more realistic.
GT1 took me only a month to finish.
Over a year of play time, I'm still only at about 45% through GT2.

Well, that works out to $45 a piece, and that's roughly the going price on eBay. Although, that's for the PAL versions.
You'd find them cheaper out in the wild, but they're both pretty rare that I doubt you'd find them any time soon anyway.

They won't be distributed for the Revolution. They aren't Nintendo published/developed titles. They don't have the rights to them.

Thanks UC1. I own the game but lets be honest - Im unlikley to ever play it :p
Just wondering. Those collectors here like Ezri - how often do you play your collection? Are most shelved after a few goes? Or do you give each title a twirl at least once a year (or 2)? At 384 Ezri would be there a LONG time (Nice SNES purchases lately Ezri. Good to see you getting some stuff boxed and complete ...while staying with your 'bargain' tendencies).
Ive been wondering what drives me to get some games and not others. Clearly gameplay / title enjoyment isnt the only thing. Box-art can definitely play a role. That saw me pick up 25 Japanese DC games for a while (sold them to pay for my brothers sex change operation). Ive considered getting a SNES (famicon) and starting another collection. BUt the thought of grubby preowned snes carts .... Id spend months cleaning them. Im bad enough with 2nd hand N64 stuff (lucky my N64 collection is about as big as its going to get). More than the grubby od carts its the size of the task. If I was to buy a JP NTSC Super famicon and say Super Metroid .... a year later Id have about 30 JP games (love the pre owned japanese game scene. Theyre so respectful of the packaging). And I doubt Id be playing any of them.
Anyone else starting to feel like they're hoarding rather than collecting? (Im looking at you Ezri :p ...and Stompy)?
Im still drawn to GBA games. I love cardboard packaging. So easily ruined. Thsi move to plastic DVD casing really cheapens collecting value/ fun imo. The NDS cases - no charm plasticy rubbish.
Hopefully Nintendo will announce the return to carts for the Revolution. LOL. Long live game cartridges!!! Those wonderful lumps of plastic.

As a matter of fact, I play every single one of my games at least once a year. I have an extensive database of information and statistics on my collection, and I know when I bought each title. This easily allows me to play each of my games a minimum of once per year as I will simply play them on the day I acquired them.
There's very little in my collection I don't like. I don't buy stuff I know I'll never play and I always choose a few titles at a time to try and work through and complete.
(Nice SNES purchases lately Ezri. Good to see you getting some stuff boxed and complete ...while staying with your 'bargain' tendencies).

Anyone else starting to feel like they're hoarding rather than collecting? (Im looking at you Ezri :p ...and Stompy)?
Actually I feel as though I'm less of a hoarder now than I used to be. Back in 2003/early 2004 when my collecting was at it's peak (in terms of expenditure) I was often buying stuff 'because it was there', regardless of whether I wanted it or not.
Now days I'm restricting myself to buying stuff I'm certain that I will play, and also I'm more discriminatory about the condition of my games. I used be happy to collect cart. only SMS, NES, MD and SNES games. Now I try to be a bit more discerning, and pass up loose games in favour of hoping I'll find a complete copy somewhere down the path. And if I don't end up finding that complete, copy....well, hey - it's not like I'm short of games to play ;-)

Latest purchase: Im well aware that Castlevania: HoD isnt the best in the series on GBA (try least) - but damn its got nice boxart. Aria of Sorrow still wins it though. Can u think of a gba game with better boxart than AoS? Anyone?
As usual when buying discontinued GBA software most of the challenge is avoiding bootleg copies. $7USD for C:HoD? yeah right :angryfir:
I bought the US version. Apart from the different logos & ratings symbols - us gba games have different 'GameBoy Advance' writing down the side. No glowing blue letters like the PAL releases.

Your concerns are quite illogical -Spock / Tuvok
If your after sealed games then ebay is pretty much your only outlet. For pre-psx stuff its something of an up-hill battle; Mega Drive games for example were never sealed in plastic wrap and only had a small sticker on the edge. AFAIK though, there arent any stores that specialise in that kind of thing unfortunately.
I used to be concerned over second hand games a very long time ago, but experience has proved me otherwise.
99.99% of the time cartridges NEVER fail - they're almost bullet proof. In my entire life, I've had two cartridges foul up on me. My original GoldenEye 007 N64 cart (which was brand new, and so I got it replaced under warranty) and a Sega Game Gear NBA Jam (and even then, I think that died because my Game Gear fried itself :-().
CD's aren't as tough, but you'll be surprised. I have many games than are VERY scratched up, yet - they work perfectly. Consoles are design to handle some scratching however, and a quick check of the disc, and using your judgement (combined with experience) you'll eventually be able to determine what will, and what won't work.
Also, if you're buying from a second-hand store like Cash Converters - they offer a 1 or 2 day warranty on game CD's. If it screws up you, take it back and your money will be refunded.

Ebay.
So what is the best version of RE2 then? The Dreamcast port? Cause of better textures, quicker loading times and some VMU titbits?
According to IGN the N64 version has....
- All FMV scenes included (severly compressed I might add).
- Improved game graphics (like you can really tell with thsi old thing) withHigh resolution screens.
- MoSys FX Surround sound.
- Faster game play. No loading time.
- New, hidden costumes.
- New scrapbook. In previous versions of Resident Evil 2, players found clues in books and files to help them complete the game. Nintendo 64 players can access dozens of items and game information from stories published on the entire Resident Evil series, and save in the scrapbook to view at any time.
- Randomizer -- After the game is played once, items will be relocated randomly, adding additional replay value.
- Analog controls and alternate control scheme (allowing for quick turn).
- Rumble Pak support.
- 4MB Expansion Pak Support for high-resolution mode.
The N64 version sounds pretty kickarse to me Ezri :p
So what is the best version of RE2 then? The Dreamcast port? Cause of better textures, quicker loading times and some VMU titbits?
Err...yeah.
- All FMV scenes included (severly compressed I might add).
Yes...compressed. Ugh.
Improved game graphics (like you can really tell with thsi old thing) with High resolution screens.
Dreamcast version also does that and whilst the 3D character models look better on the N64 than on PSX, the 2D renders have been compressed.
MoSys FX Surround sound.
Uncertain about this one, but I know the DC audio wouldn't be as compressed as the N64's.
Faster game play. No loading time.
Gameplay doesn't play any faster and the load times on the DC were heavily dropped.
New, hidden costumes.
- New scrapbook. In previous versions of Resident Evil 2, players found clues in books and files to help them complete the game. Nintendo 64 players can access dozens of items and game information from stories published on the entire Resident Evil series, and save in the scrapbook to view at any time.
DC has a similar feature.
Randomizer -- After the game is played once, items will be relocated randomly, adding additional replay value.
DC has a similar 'Arrange' mode.
Analog controls and alternate control scheme (allowing for quick turn).
DC has it.
Rumble Pak support.
Done and done.
4MB Expansion Pak Support for high-resolution mode.
Same on DC....without an Expansion Pak.
Don't get me wrong, aside from the heavily compressed textures, video and audio, the N64 version is better than it's PSX counterpart.

Dont know about that. I thought the Gamecube version was a direct port of the PSX game.
Is your DC copy of RE2 PAL or NTSC? Running at full speed is it? Well? Hey ? Well?
LOL. Anyway. Youve failed to remember a simple universal truth Ezri. Anything on a cartridge is twice as good as its disc based counterpart. Explains why Goldeneye is better than Halo*, and in this case why my copy of RE2 - on a spanky new N64 game cart - is far superior to your worthless spinny disc thing :raspberr:
(*and why Splinter Cell GBA is better than Splinter Cell on XBOX? :-? )
So I win that fight. Let's move on shall we.
Ive bought some more worthless spinning disc things. Now I have a small but nice PSX 3D fighting collection. Obviously there's titles missing (early Tekkens, Erghenx (or whatever that Square fighter was called), Zero Divide, Battle Arena Toshiden, DOA) but I have what i consider the important ones (Please disagree. Im happy to buy more :p )
So my PSX polygon fighters include the following plus Tekken 3 & Rival Schools.

The only PSX 3D fighters I've played that are worth a dime are SoulBlade and Dead or Alive. Battle Arena Toshinden (and it's two sequels) are alright, though very dated. At least SB and DOA are still playable by today's standards.

Pocket Fighter is hella fun! I want that so much. I'm a sucker for anything super deformed or chibi. Gameplay was crazy with all the cosplaying (Felicia as Megaman!, Ibuki as Rolento LOLOLOL)
As for the RE2 stuff...
The GC version is a direct port of the DC version. With arrange mode already unlocked right from teh very beggining.
The N64 version of RE2 had TRUE analogue controls. As in point-the-stick-in-the-direction-and-move-that-way without the pivoting in place. It threw off the pacing and balance of the game though and made it extremely easy. but it was still a nice experiment. Mind you it was the porting team that added it and not Capcom officially.
I did comparisons witht he GC and 64 versions a while ago and found teh fmv quality to be the same. The difference is negligible really. Although the sound quality on the 64 version is noticably different (lower). As for the resolution, the 64 version looks identical to the GC version when using an Expansion Pak and running the game in hi-res.
Also, those new files are the only new additions tot he main game. It covers bits of story and info stretching from RE1 to CVX and even bits of REzero. Oh and also teh choice to have blood either red, blue, green or none.
That's about it as far as I know. The 64 version is a mighty fine port. Kudos to the team that did it (can't remember right now, I think it was Angel or Crave, can't remember). All fmv's, all voice acting and all scenarios. It's a technical marvel.

Well here's my latest retro purchase.
501 flogged off his Ninty DS for 70 bucks to EB to pay for the up and coming PSP.
We all know that DS was going to die. I was furious at 501 for flogging it off to EB so cheaply when I would have bought it off him for that price, if not more.
It turns out, when you flog something off to EB you can reclaim it. I told him of my UNSTOPPABLE RAGE at his actions, he went to EB and said "Hey, can I have it back?". So he could sell it to me at said price.
As it turns out, yes he could have it back.
So he went to retrieve his old DS, and as it turns out, all the pre owned DS consoles had been sold out.
So they gave him a brand new one. Which he sold to me at said price.
Hooray for 501! :D
Errr.....how is a DS 'retro'?
It's currently outselling the PSP in Japan, so it's not exactly dead either. :-?

Whats the sucess rate of finding anything at markets? I wouldnt mind checking them out but if its like 1 half-decent game for 20 visits then maybe not :<
Latest stuff for me from game exchange mooroolbark:
Lords of the Realm II (PC cd+case only) $15
Lords of Magic SE (PC cd+case only) $15
Raystorm (pson complete) $15
The top 2 were really $0 after trade in (i traded a couple of PC games and a ps2 RC revenge). LoM SE is fantastic, and Raystorm is just the thing for my playstation/ps2 shmups cravings of late.

I find that every time I've gone to the markets, I've found at least one thing worth buying.
And nicely done on RayStorm! That's quite a hard title to come by.

Can any of you MegaDrive Experts tell me why the cart for VR is bigger than normal? And how much is VR worth?
The larger cart size is due to the SVP chip on the circuit board. Sega's SVP chip is what allows the Mega Drive to display polygon graphics. It's similar (and was in fact Sega's answer to) the SNES's Super FX chip.
But if you ask me, Stunt Race FX > MD Virtua Racing.
As for it's worth? VR sold for $149.95 back in the day, but nowadays it's not worth much more than most regular MD titles. I wouldn't pay more than $25 for a complete copy.
Besides - the 32X and Saturn versions are much better.

I don't know if this counts, but I've recently bought Midway Arcade Treasures 1 & 2 for the X-box. Playing titles like Paperboy, Bubbles, Gauntlet 1 & 2, Spy Hunter 1 & 2 , Narc, Hard Drivin', Mortal Kombat 2 & 3, take me back to simpler times. It also makes me appreciate the great games we have today.
