I'll post my list later but Everything or Nothing was teh suxors! Maybe we should have a little point system going so that one can see how many people nominated a title for "Best of..."?

Natrak

Obvious ones:

Super Mario Sunshine (even if you don't feel it's as good as 64, it's still a fine title)
Metroid Prime 1&2
The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker
The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess
Super Smash Bros Melee

Arguable:
Baten Kaitos
Mario Power Tennis
Mario Kart Double Dash
Tales of Symphonia (I hate it, but there's no doubt it'll make the list)

Queenie
10-02-2008, 08:38 PM
Resident evil 4
Tales Symphonia
MGS Twin Snakes
Rogue Leader
Soul Calibur II
Eternal Darkness

err... should we go only with exclusives on this one? (disregarding Re4 and killer7...and ToS)

EDIT: and Soul Calibur II.

I'd recommend:

Naruto 4 - the last and the best. 4 player too.

It's an import unfortunately. Pick up a freeloader.

Pac Man Vs. - So simple and addictive. My only advice for this game is three wavebirds!

Bomberman - Same as Pac Man Vs.

I'll say Spiderman 2, not because it's the best game on the console, but because copies tend to be very cheap and its really fun.

Can anyone sell me on The Twin Snakes? I keep considering buying it on DVDCrave but I need to hear some more positive feedback first.

It's MGS1 with MGS2 gameplay. If you were a fan of the PS1 original you probably won't like it as much, because the rest of the game is designed around the limitations MGS1's original gameplay had, but otherwise it's pretty tops.

I've never actually played a Metal Gear game before (except MGS on the Game Boy Color, which was amazing). I keep getting to the checkout on DVDCrave and thinking "nah, I have too many games already". I'll probably end up stumbling home drunk one night and then finding a confirmation e-mail in my inbox the next morning that its been shipped.

Back to reccommending GC games:
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 was the last really awesome Tony Hawk game. Fight Night Round 2 is still worth grabbing if you find it cheap- even if you have the slightly superior Round 3, the included 'Super Punch Out!' is what got me into the series in the first place. Super Monkey Ball was at its best on the Gamecube, too.

From my collection I'd add the following to what's already been mentioned:

Mario Golf
Mario Kart: DD
Pikmin 2
DK: Jungle Beat (w/bongos)
Luigi's Mansion

I'm not sure what the consensus is on some of these games, but each one has provided me with some cracking gaming moments.

After I finished it I went out and bought a PS2 and PSP so I could play the sequels, if that says anything. It has cool characters, satisfying gameplay. Perhaps less so than MGS2 and 3, but it has cool easter eggs with reactions from guards, and lends itself well to replayability. Probably one of the best stories told in video games, in my opinion.

The only problem you could have with it is if you just plain don't like stealth games, or are low on patience. A lot of people also hate the control scheme, but once you get used to them it makes sense to me.

Everybody's pretty much covered all the GCN games I have and enjoy already, but here's my list anyway:

YAY!
Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix
Donkey Konga
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (I actually prefer the GCN controls)
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Pikmin 2
Resident Evil 4
Soulcalibur II
Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader
Super Smash Bros. Melee

NAY!
Animal Crossing. That is if you have a DS, which has the superior, portable version.
Starfox Adventures. "What if Fox fought dinosaurs?" I know Rare couldn't help it but that's a really bad premise. The combat was really terrible from what I remember.
Pikmin. Not a bad game by any stretch of the imagination but Pikmin 2 did everything it did better and more.

I'd say the combat from SFA was ubisoft-bad, IIRC.

+1 for Mario Golf. I also didn't mind the Cube version of the first Splinter Cell, I got to use the 'funky' GBA link up options. I liked Wave Race Blue Storm also, had some good times.

Ghost Recon on the Cube was a pretty average port, but it did introduce a few basic features that should have been in the Xbox version like adjustable zoom on your weapons (not just 2 levels!) and the ability to cycle backwards through the weapon set up list instead of having to go through them all again if you missed the weapon you wanted (WOOOOAH!).

I liked Wave Race Blue Storm also, had some good times. Frustratingly good times, to be sure. The waves had about as much control over your jetski as you.

Also, I know I asked for this thread but it's really sad that there's nothing mentioned so far that I haven't heard of. The Cube certainly had a better selection of games (and good ones, at that) than the N64 but, in retrospect, it's still rather limited.

The must owns:
Ikaruga
BG&E
Super Mario Sunshine (kicks SM64's arse)
Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader
Zelda: The Wind Waker

I'll fill-out the rest later.

I have it but I much prefer the original PSone version as they stupidly changed most of the cutscenes for the worse. Plus the GCN controller doesn't exactly feel right.

Right, I've made a start turning it all into a list. Check it out on the first page. For future posts please try and list titles that aren't already listed first then maybe have a "seconded" list, as in:

I can't believe you forgot: Burnout, Burnout 2

I second: Mario Golf, Tales of Simpletons etc

Also I'm going to ditch the "worst" of category because it just seems to be creating confusion. I have a thing for the geniunely worst of things in design, of which probably Univeral Theme Park Tour surely stands out on it's own, but most of what people are submitting are sometime well designed games that they simply didn't like, so I'm going to drop the category.

I've seen it twice -- once when R Racing came out -- the sticker was on the game advertising Pac Man Vs! I wasn't paying $100 for it.

Next, I saw R Racing preowned at EB -- same sticker. I asked if Pac Man Vs was included, they said they asked the person who traded it in, and he said he kept it, so boo hiss!

There's a distinction there for NTSC and PAL (Europe) imports. The list will bear some evolution over time, anyway.

If the Bond game is Everything or Nothing then it is actually quite good - third person shooter, though, so be warned. But quite an underrated game. Though the vehicle sections are mostly crap.

My mate's brother just gave me a stack of Gamecube games he took from his job at Blockbuster (These were the ones left over after their GC clearance).

For $0 I got:
Resident Evil
Super Smash Bros Melee
Soul Calibur 2
Pikmin 2
Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour
Luigi's Mansion
1080 Avalnache
F Zero GX
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles
Finding Nemo
Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2
Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3
Dave Mirra BMX 2
Star Fox Adventures
and last and certainly least....Universal Studios Theme Park Adventure

Not bad 15 games for nothing. None have boxes or manuals though. I have played LM and SFA and already have FZero but the rest are basically new to me. I have so many unfinished games already (and some I haven't even started) so this just adds to the pile...a good problem to have I guess.

Cool. I was really surprised that they were generally good games.

I'm not sure if I'll sell any of them - but there's a chance since a) I won't have the time to actually play most of them and b) some games don't really ineterest me (Dave Mirra, Tony Hawk, Universal Studios...) but I'll probably play around with them anyway. FZero is the only one I'd sell immediately since I already have that.

I'll post a note here if I change my mind.

Pac Man Vs.:(

YOu know I was only yesterday thing about the dear john letter I might write to Nintendo after I sell my Wii, listing among my disapointments the fact that they finally had a feasible hardware set up and delivery system for their "connectivity" games and totally dropped it. How goddamn difficult would it have been to have made pac man vs available for download to Wii and work with DS's? By which I suggest it would not have been difficult at all. Nintendo should have had a team purely working on porting GCN games as far as I'm concerned, they should have realised that the only reason those quality games didn't sell was because their hardware sucked farts. Now they have the hardware which sells and their software sucks farts instead. are they accursed...

Mario Kart: Double Dash is one equal favorite for me alongside the DS version. But I played Double Dash way more. Sure it's slightly polarizing, but it's still my favorite for MK multiplayer. So bump it up to best of racing etc.
It's definitely more than worthy.

I'm also a sucker for TimeSplitters 2. Heck! My friends and I still play it.

Still one of my favourite games on the cube. i know the puzzles were basic, shit story etc, but it still sucked me in. great graphics.
I really don't think SFA is the type of game that's meant to have a "non-shit" story - I mean, would you say Mario or Banjo had good stories?
To me, the game's greatest failing was obvious: it was incomplete, and stubbed off all over the place. There was only one real, in-depth dungeon - obviously the development team had pressure on them to get their last Nintendo game out fast when Microsoft bought Rare out, so a lot of content was chopped.

Then ofcourse there are other problems, the suffocating linearity, some of the puzzles and challenges were just a tad too frustrating, etc.

Anyway, my list goes something along the lines of:
Metroid Prime
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Zelda: Wind Waker
Rogue Leader
Pikmin
Sonic Mega Collection
Sonic Adventure 2 (for longevity, and proving to me that Sonic can definitely work in 3D...the other characters were a bit dry, but not as bad as critics made out)
Aggressive Inline (and those who mentioned TH games should hang their heads in shame)

Since I really need more gaming in my life, I'm thinking about getting more Cube games soon, just to tide me over 'til I can afford an X360. I'll keep this thread in mind.

I have it:) I got it for $14 plus $6 postage from an American eBayer back when our dollar was awesome. It's a wonderfully charming game.

The following games are games I played on the Cube and loved. I have a hell of a lot of GC games still (85 games) and I haven't played a LOT of them (such as Zelda [Twighlight Princess, Windwaker and Four Swords], Tales of Syphonia, Paper Mario, Killer 7, Mario Sunshine, Viewtiful Joe [1 and 2] and Battalion Wars etc) So, one day, this list will probably be longer. But for now, here it is.

Beyond Good & Evil
Burnout 2
Eternal Darkness
Gun
Metroid Prime 1 & 2
Prince of Persia SOT
Resident Evil 4
Timesplitters 2
XIII

I should also throw in Kirby's Air Ride. It got panned by a lot of daft critics in the West compared to Japan, but I love it. I probably spent just as much time playing it as MK: Double Dash and now that I remember I have it, I'll go out and unlock a few more things.

Kirby's Air Ride was billed as a one button racing game which automatically accelerated, but it was cleverer than that. You'd hold down A to inhale
Or hit the floor to hit a boost panel (with a flying machine)
Or just cleverly power slide and boost around corners.

Basically it had three different modes:
Air Ride- Traditional racing
City Ride- Build up your machine over a time limit by collecting stat upgrades or an improved machine and then compete in an event (random or chosen)
Top Ride- Essentially Micro Machines with 8 second laps.

And of course you could replay all the events.

There was a massive range of truly unique vehicles to pilot and lap times to smash, half of which were truly hardcore for such a supposed 'casual' game.

There was also a massive amount of things to unlock (it was the first rough appearance of the Smash Bros unlock system).

Great 4 player blast and fun solo. I love it and it only cost $20 at Target because the case was stolen!

It was the only decent map in the whole game. Well, except for the castle map, which also had snow and a ski lift, but for whatever reason you couldn't play with bots on it. I once had a pretty tight two-man snipe out on it, but that was it.

The rest of the maps were dull crap.

Without a doubt the best multiplayer game IMO is Beach Spikers. Simple yet deep gameplay. Was a beautiful game that never got the appreciation that it deserves

Such an awesome game! Love the "SEGA in the 90s" style of it all; the commentator, the blue skies, the music! Classic!

Pac-Man Vs is king (in comparison to Beach Spikers).

You move the controller to get Pac-Man (or avoid the ghosts if you're Pac Man).

Pick up and play multi-player off the bat is what makes multi-player games so good.

That's right!

...and it doesn't apply to Pac-Man Vs.

But still, you can now play Pac-Man Vs. on the DS via some collection thing, helluva lot easier than its original user-friendly way.

True. Via Namco Collection DS (title?).

But when everyone has Wavebirds and it's on a TV screen, only one person has to suffer looking at the GBA. ;)

I borrowed it from my sister for a while. The single player was ok for such a quickly released game, but multiplayer definitely had the most potential. My sister and I both remembered playing the multiplayer demo just before the Gamecube was released. So we bought it on the strength of those memories.
I actually can't remember playing much multi player when I had it, but it wasn't bad.
Still if you played it for too long, you noticed the same animations over and over. It drove me crazy!

There's some rather fine games included in that list. I have great memories playing the beloved purple cube. If I had to choose one game to recommend above all others though, it'd be The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. It simply oozes endearing charm.

I really wish I could get into Wind Waker. It feels like a Zelda game, but the crucial element that I loved in Ocarina and Mask - the sprawling open world to explore - has been replaced with a big, boring body of water :(

That would be my only criticism of the game. Even then, the slight blandness of the ocean travelling didn't come close to compromising the game's appeal for me. The geeky photograph side-quest catering towards to Nintendo fanboys (a la me ... then) is another part of the game that I loved. Just had to pain-stakingly go back-and-forth between islands taking photos of obscure characters to get every statue possible! :D

It's good but not great, it feels to good to go to "gc exclusive but meh" and it was Rare's last game on a Nintendo console.

The first Metroid Prime for me. It's got the most organic, natural levels - a must, for me. The enemies aren't a pain in the arse, and when you are right at the end, or searching for secrets at the end, you are the true embodiment of how you should be at the end of a Metroid game - completely overpowered and able to obliterate any enemy with ease (so as to ensure ease of exploration and secret finding).

The second was fantastic, and incredibly satisfying, but I simply did not enjoy the environments (and enemies) as much. The third was also great but definitely the weakest - Samus was not pumped up and overpowered at the end - those stupid ball things kick your arse - many enemies were stupidly designed and took far too many shots to kill, and the levels didn't feel like a cohesive whole, but rather a linear path through it all.

That was a messy outburst of opinion.

Metroid Prime > Echoes > Corruption.

The first one. First 3D Metroid game, it was amazing. You really needed to play it when it came first out though. Final boss was better and it didn't have that awful morph ball boss. Great ending seeing Samus with her helmet off at the end as well.

Definitely the first. The second was good as well, but the whole light world/dark world thing was shit up until you got the suit that stopped you from taking damage in the dark world. And the treasure hunt at the end (which was pretty much just copied from MP1 anyway) was far too hard because the world was much more confusing compared to MP1's.

As for Corruption, I enjoyed it but it almost seemed like the developers had thought "hey, that Halo game's sold well, let's make Metroid more like that". I don't want to take orders from the Galactic Federation or whatever, I want to figure this shit out on my own.

A friend and I have been playing LoZ: Four Sword Adventures co-op latly. it isn't too bad but annoying how you need the GBAs to play it. We bought an old GBA off eBay but it is a bit dodgy as it will turn off now and then. We are not sure what is wrong with it but it has no battery cover so we taped the batteries down so they wouldn't move.

My PS3 died (I've since got a new one) so I dug out my GCN copy of Killer 7. I'd never played it.

Anyway, after making my way through the first level with a face like Antoine Rotelli's, I started making sense of it all. I'm really enjoying it. The game is super linear, but the visual approach and amazing sound design (plus the increasingly excellent story) is brilliant.

I've been thinking a bit about Fire Emblem lately. According to the Nintendo Channel tracking data the Wii version was played on average for 50 hours by each person. That sounds like a fair bit of bang for buck.

Now I'm pretty sure the Wii version was a direct sequel to the Gamecube game. Did anyone finish both versions?
And if so is anyone keen for a sequel?

Nic Xtreme

Fire Emblem is... an acquired taste. I love SRPGs but Fire Emblem is definitely not to my liking.

I'm sure Nintendo will keep releasing them because they have quite a fanbase, particularly in Japan.

I wouldn't bat an eyelid if they never released another, though. As long as Marth stays in future Smash Bros. games, I'll be pleased.

Actually, I would buy Dynasty Warriors: Fire Emblem.
