So, EA / DICE are making a Free to download & play battlefield game in the same art direction as Team Fortress 2. It will have character customisation, a skill matching system and a campaign system; Axis vs Allies, I guess ranking each side and locations won on site.

It's going to have ads between matches (but not during) and cash-only items like in Gunbound, although all such purchases will be purely cosmetic and offer no gameplay advantage.

According to Wikipedia the specs for this are very mild, which is great news! 1Ghz CPU, 512Mb RAM and a 64Mb video card.

Commando
The Commando class is fast moving, and specializes in its stealth tactics as well as backstabs, and sniping. The known weapons of the Commando are a sniper rifle and a knife, which do high damage although the rifle does not have a lot of ammo. The Commando is a spy type character and has low health compared to the other classes. Special abilities of this class are laying traps, and cloaking.

Soldier
The Soldier, being the medium class is a good all around class and has the power to determine enemy’s location via a special ability called "See-the-Enemy". This ability outlines nearby opponents even if the enemy is behind a wall. This lasts for 10 seconds and then takes 30 seconds to recharge. The only known weapon the Soldier carries is the Submachine Gun. Other abilities the Soldier can have are incendiary rounds, health boost (heals allies around you), throw multiple grenades.

Gunner
The Gunner is the heavy of the 3 classes, which means he is the slowest moving, but the best armed. He wields rapid-fire machine guns, rocket launchers, and flame throwers are a possibility for feature updates. Special features include the ability to shovel up a bunch of grenades and throw them back at enemies.

Just got into the beta for this today. The NDA is active so I'll be careful about what I say, but so far I've only done the tutorial mission, which takes 5mins and literally tells you all there is to know. The humor from the trailer is still there too, for example in the tutorial one of the prompts reads: "Here is the final stage, walk up to the airplane. This is where you learn to crash...I mean, fly". Oddly enough, I did crash it. :P

My only complaint is that they either lied about the system specs, or the beta client is still unoptimized. I'm playing on a 2GHz PC with 1GB RAM and a GeForce6600, and I'm using low settings just to get a smooth FPS. Considering that the game hardly seems system crushing, I'd say it's just an unoptimized client so fear not.

Yeah, I got picked for beta of this today as well.

Great game, can't say much but it's shaping up realll nicely.

Now lets just hope EA get some Aussie servers happening and all would be good.

I've got into it now after not being able to connect ever. Turned off all my antivirus/ firewall and it worked straight away. Up to level 5 now. It's just basic fun for short periods and it's free. No complaints from me :) . They can still go and shove their micro transactions though..
