Yes it's been done before. Time to do it again.
1. Take a photo of your retro stuff.
2. Write something interesting underneath the photo. Perhaps a brief description of what we're looking at. Or a detailed back story of the pain and suffering.

OK I'm just gonna cut and paste my SNES Stuff from my post in recent retro buys, it saves alot of time
SNES collection has been 3 or so years in the making, I've gone rather full on with it the last few months, and I really wish I hadn't of sold my old SNES from my younger days, alot of games I wouldn't need to rebuy (Spider-Man & Venom, Secret of Mana, Illusion of Time etc etc) but such is life so heres the complete SNES collection as it currently stands
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v300/flamecondor/snesgames.jpg
And thats the whole game collection for my SNES starting from Right top and going down,
Saturday Night Slam Masters, Street Fighter Alpha 2 (NTSC), Weapon Lord, Wrestlemania Arcade Game, Chrono Trigger, Drakkhen
X-Men Mutant Apocalypse, Spider-Man & Venom Maximum Carnage, Captain America & The Avengers, Spider-Man & The X-Men, Secret of Mana, Ren & Stimpy Time Warp
Wild Guns, Super Star Wars, Super Empire Strikes Back, Super Return of the Jedi, Illusion of Gaia, Darius Twin
Street Fighter Alpha 2 (PAL), Turtles Tourney Fighter (I think this is a Japan game, but the text is all in English but I need a Converter, mmm on thinking this could be a copy, but it came with the SNES so meh), Samurai Showdown, Mortal Kombat 2, Killer Instinct, Turtles in Time.
Street Fighter 2, Chaos Engine, Jurassic Park, Super Scope 6, Spawn, Super Castlevania IV
Super Mario World, Super Mario Allstars, Plok, Yoshis Safari, Super mario Kart, Super International Circket
Parodius, NBA JAM, Starwing, Aero the Acrobat, Gokujou Parodius, Vortex.
Now yes I do have 2 versions of Street Fighter Alpha 2, but thats due to the NTSC one having a lockout chip than won't let my Converter work, but I'm stuck with the game till I can think of something to do with it, might EBay it one day.
I know to some people this isn't gonna be alot of games and there are plans to add to it soon, trying to work my way through the list of gmaes to get. Still what to get next, S.O.S., Pocky & Rocky, Rock N Roll Racing, Syndicate, E.V.O. or Earthbound, damn choices.
Now onto N64 games. Again same as with my SNES I had a N64 from back in the day but due to issues out of my hands it had to be sold, which is a shame cause I had lots of these games before, I think my original collection would of been looking at around 30 games, I forget.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v300/flamecondor/N64Collection.jpg
So what we have here is starting from the left to right
Perfect Dark, Quake 2, Armorines, Turok Rage Wars
WWF No Mercy, WWF Wrestlemania 200, Some Golf game I have never played and only got it cause it came with the system, Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2
Star Wars Episode 1 Battle for Nabbo, Star Wars Episode 1 Racer, F-Zero X, Wipeout 64
Tetrisphere (BEST GAME EVER), Starcraft 64. The New Tetris, Command and Conquer 64
Bottom Games, Conkers Bad Fur Day, Jet Force Gemni, Castlevania Legacy of Darkness.
Got heaps of games on my to get list for 64, I can't recall what they are right now, but there are a few, however currently SNES is my main Priority.
Now for Gameboy & Gameboy Colour games. Some of these games I've had for ages (Snow Bros) some I had but have rebought (Metroid 2 and so on). damn the times of having no money and having to sell games to buy new games, oh well we live and learn
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v300/flamecondor/Gameboygames.jpg
Sneaky Snakes, James Bond 007 (lol I got this game when I got my Gameboy Pocket, like a month or so before I found out about the Gameboy Colour), Pokemon Silver, Power Quest
Metroid 2, Alien 3, Pokemon Blue, Grand Theft Auto (avoid this like the plague)
Kirbys Dream Land (got off ebay with Sneaky Snakes, hey 2 Gameboy games with 5 bucks, I don't care if one is ripped, didn't even want this game anyway), Jurassic Park, Pokemon The Card Game, Snow Bros Jnr
Ducktales, Hook, Legend of the River King, Tumble Pop
Space Invaders, Star Wars, Tetris Blast, Aerostar
Solomons Quest, Ghostbusters 2, WWF Attitude.
got abit of work to do on my Gameboy games, I've got a list of games to get, I forget them now, but I will get them all.
So thats all my retro Nintendo stuff, well tell a lie I do have a fair few NES games, I should picture them one day, just wish I had a working NES to play them on, should also do the same for all 3 of my Atari 2600 games. Anyway heres a complete look at my setup stack on the shelf. Note the writing on the carts isn't on the cart itself, but on sticky tape so I can tell which game is which when I get them out to play. Also was taken like the day before I added a whole heap of SNES games to the collection so yeah.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v300/flamecondor/Gamesshelf.jpg
Also my current TV set up with SNES and N64 hooked in.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v300/flamecondor/TVConsoles.jpg
OK I'm done, also early start 2morrow so I'll leave it at that.

Nice collection flamecondor. Rock n Roll Racing should definitely be your next purchase: expensive but awesome. I wish i hadn't sold my copy all those years ago...
Look into buying Super Buster Brothers (or Super Pang - NTSC/J) too. Another SNES great imo

Shown above is my Megadrive collection, consisting of a console and 113 game cartridges. I've owned some of these games for over 10 years and don't think I could ever sell them, well not unless someone offered me a trade for a house or a cash figure of around a million dollars ;).
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h124/twincaliber/nintendocollection.jpg
And this is my Nintendo collection. Two years ago I had almost 50 G&W games, but then found myself needing to purchase a car, so I decided to sell the lot bar DK and Greenhouse, which not only covered the cost of a $2800 car, but also made me a bit of profit along the way. I've owned all of the boxed Gameboy games since new, most of which were birthday or christmas presents. The 26 in 1 cartridge I traded off a korean friend back in the year 2000!

You leave my antenna out of this, its awesome, well not when someone stands on the front left hand side of it while I'm trying to watch SBS, but other then that its fine.
I've played Pang (Buster bros) in one of its many forms, tis a good game, I loove those 1 screen level old school arcade games, awesome on soo many levels.

"You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to timecrisisking again."
Hey timecrisis,
Out of interest: why the Megadrive? Awesome console no doubt with some classic games, but not usually one collectors focus on.
Good to see Castle of Illusion there, best Disney game ever made. Great memories. I might be blind, but I didn't see Strider or Shinobi 3. Two must-haves.
Also, what's with the black 'Sega Gold' MD games? Never seen those before. Give us a bit of info about those.

Good questions! When I was around five years old I won my first Megadrive in a Sun Herald colouring in competition (I think I had to colour in the book muncher guy, whom from memory was a mascot encouraging phone books to be recycled at BP's) and I've been addicted pretty much ever since. It was the first video game console I ever owned and I'm kinda sentimentally attached, I even remember the big train ride to the city to collect it, lol. The console itself along with the controller and RF cable died over time, but the game which came with it new (Sonic Compilation) I still own today. The second game I ever purchased was Outrun, which cost me around $20 from cashies, and I still have that as well. Oh man, how I loved (and still do love) Outrun.
So long story short, it's all about sentimentality. I owned Strider once but became desperate for money and sold it for some stupid reason (would definately purchase again should the opportunity arise), whilst I've been looking for Shinobi 3 for quite some time, yet haven't located one in excellent condition at a reasonable price.
The Sega Gold and Platinum cases were released after a game surpassed so many sales, kind of similar to your players choice Gamecube games. The games, game labels and manuals are all the same, it's just the insert which differs.

If no one has asked you before, why Super Famicom? Why Super Famicom rather than SNES you mean? Well Im not a big RPG person. And if japanese text isnt an issue then SFC games are far easier to find complete & in mint condition. So it was a mixture of game availability and nice boxart that won me over.
I do own one SNES (US) game. Zombies Ate my Neighbours. I put it in the casing of one of my 'least played' SFC carts. This gets around the only compatibility issue between US and jap machine (the shape of the carts).

Nice one. Such a cool game. I never owned it, but I hired it enough times to more than cover the retail price.
I'm spewing that I sold my SNES stuff. I had it 60hz modded with a multi-region adaptor along with 20 odd classic games in mint condish. Sold it to buy an N64 and games a decade ago and it still haunts me. All I have now is a second-hand stock standard SNES with 1 controller and 2 cartridges: Yoshi's Island and DKC3 :(

I suggest you start buying the odd game here and there. When youve got about 10 or so splurge on the system.

It's such a big commitment though (time and $$$). I can be obsessive too, so I'd probably end up spending hundreds of dollars on games that I'll only give a cursory glance to, vainly in the pursuit of reclaiming rose-coloured childhood memories.
I would like to eventually get back, at the very least, the following games though:
- SMW/All-Stars 5-in-1
- DKC 1 & 2
- Rock 'n' Roll Racing ($$$)

Not that big a commitment really. retro is cheaper than current Gen (obviously. Unless we're talking Neo Geo). As long as you decide upfront what youre planning to buy and stick to it.
I reckon a SNES with 10 of its best games is a good investment. And you dont need blind nostalgia to appreciate some of the finest games ever made. True classics. Fun today. Fun tomorrow.
I heard that PS2 'conversion' was woefully poor. True?
It was TERRIBLE. Couldn't get it out of my house fast enough. Bad collision detection, some weird 'high-res' filter on everything and some shoe-horned cut scenes.
Unfortunately I still haven't come across a SNES copy of Cybernator/Valken that I can be bothered buying.

Maybe when Ezri posts up his pictures I'll be inspired all over again. :)

And it's arse IMO.
I swear it must be impossible to beat the Penguin and escalator boss.
My theory is that they built the game up until that point, stopped and pretended there were more levels.
I have the Mega CD version which at least has the sweet driving sections.
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a121/ablphotodump/storagesolution.jpg
Previously ideal storage solution, but as my music collection has grown there's been less room for games. So I can no longer show off the spines and I had to store PC games (mostly budget rereleases) elsewhere.
Green brackets are Xbox1 titles. Highlights Panzer Dragoon Orta, JSRF, Halo, Ninja Gaiden, Soul Calibur 2. Next to them is 360.
Purple brackets are Cube games. Highlights include: Metroid Prime, Paper Mario, Wind Waker, MGS: Twin Snakes, REmake, RE 0
Blue are Megadrive: Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic Spinball, Ecco 1, Ecco 2, Another World, Tazmania and Desert Strike. I'd like to add Aladdin, Quackshot, Tiny Toons, Sparkster, Flashback and Micromachines '96 to those ranks. I don't think there's anything else I want for MD.
Virtual Console has things like Phantasy Star, Shining Force etc covered (for cost and convenience).
Red is Saturn: Burning Rangers, House of the Dead, Manx TT, Fighters Megamix, Sonic R, Jonah Lomu Rugby, VF2, Story of Thor 2, SEGA Worldwide Soccer '97, Xmen Children of the Atom, Guardian Heroes, Virtual On, Panzer Dragoon, Panzer Dragoon 2: Zwei, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Dragon Force, Sonic Jam, Shining the Holy Ark, SEGA Rally, V Cop, V Cop 2, Tomb Raider, SF Alpha, Thunderhawk 2, Sonic 3D, Street Racer, Daytona CCE, NBA Action, Gun Griffon, Enemy Zero, Riven. The list needs some pruning.
I'd like to get Shining Force 3, SF Alpha 2, Night Warriors and Die Hard Arcade.
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a121/ablphotodump/therest.jpg
These live in a cupboard.
Mega CD: Sonic CD, Batman Returns, Ecco, Dracula Unleashed, Dune, Cobra Command / Sol Feace.
I'd like to add Jurassic Park, Silpheed, Ecco 2 and Shining Force CD (unlikely)
MD: Home Alone. Want to rid myself of it.
32X: NBA Jam: TE. Had intentions of collecting 32X then realised the madness of this, all too late however.
GBC/GBA: Warioland 2, Zelda NES Classic, Gunstar Heroes, Sonic Advance, Sonic Advance 3, Chu Chu Rocket, Metroid Zero Mission, Metroid Fusion, Advance Wars.
Want to add: Dotstream, Sound Voyager, Guardian Heroes Advance, Advance Wars 2 but only if I find them cheap.

I kinda feel embarrassed for having accumulated all this shit. I generally forget what I own as I really dont play any of it (Hardly touch the current gen games either. I'll end up spending a week with GTA4 tops). When I took this stuff out for the photos I started to feel ill. Not so much the money, which isnt really that much in the scheme of things (ie dont pay your rent for a few months, wear the same t-shirt for a year). Its the effort spent looking for these things. Kinda fun at the time but now mostly time wasted.
Id sell up but a) couldnt be arsed trying to get the price Id want and b) Id end up buying it all again anyway. So I figure keep it, feel silly and buy less in the future.
I started collecting for the wrong reasons. Boredom & nostalgia (for games I never owned originally. How strange). Maybe the only reason I pretend Im still interested in gaming (at all) is because it reminds me of a time when I actually was. But hey - beats collecting stamps I suppose

Btw, I'm curious: why 2 copies of Beetle Adventure Racing? I remember they released HSV Adventure Racing, but yours look identical except for the different coloured strip on the box.
As an aside, I remember that game having massive letterboxing. Top Gear Rally 4 lyfe!

Well the NTSC version runs a lot nicer (faster. less letterboxing etc). My PAl copy also started to go weird. Sound issues. So I used that as an excuse to get teh slightly improved version (19 FPS beats 12 FPS LOL. N64 power!!!)

I love seeing these quaint little collections. :)
Seriously tho there's a tonne of cool stuff there, but I'd prefer to run it all off a hard drive. XBLA, PSN and VC are a step in the right direction, but they really need to open it up and let us play what the **** we want. It costs them almost nothing to host a rom once the system's been emulated.
The worst thing about having all that stuff, there's really not much you can do with it except keep it clean and obsess over it =/
The worst thing about having all that stuff, there's really not much you can do with it except keep it clean and obsess over it =/
Which is why the majority of my stuff isn't in pristine condition. Some stuff is, but most of it has that used look which suggests I actually play those games on the shelf.

...has that used look which suggests I actually play those games on the shelf. there's preowned and then there's pre-nasty. Neither is evidence of a game being 'well played'. Some people just dont look after their stuff.
Teh fact my gear is well looked after and protected has nothing to do with me not playing them. Id happily take out any game and give it a bash - if the desire came to me.
The worst thing about having all that stuff, there's really not much you can do with it except keep it clean and obsess over it =// Theyre still games UC1. They can be played. They can also be sold later, possibly for profit. You cant really do that with your roms now can you.
Illegally downloading roms is a different discussion. But if youre getting retro games off VC, Live or PSN - they aint free. And your money is never coming back. Collecting may be the home of the overly obsessive cleanfreak-weirdo-sad-types, but its also not a bad way to play the old stuff and have something you can on sell once youre done with it.
I enjoyed collecting my things. But now I have little desire to play any of it. And that holds true to games in general. So its not a matter of retro reality beats misty eyed nostalgia.
As for fussing over 'things'. Well thats just me. I like things in their place. tidy. Messy people shit me (current flatmate is an example).
there's preowned and then there's pre-nasty. Neither is evidence of a game being 'well played'. Some people just dont look after their stuff.
I look after stuff - to a point.
I will keep boxes, packaging, manuals etc - but that is my limit. I don't care if the edge of box dog-ears a bit because I actually open and close it. I don't care if something gets dust on it.
That said, I am looking foward to when I move to a new house and get some better shelving so I can actually properly store and display my games collection. At the moment, I have many cardboard boxes sitting around the house filled with games and console.
It's either that or I sell a whole pile of stuff.

It's either that or I sell a whole pile of stuff. The 'GAMES ROOM'. Stuff of dreams!!!
I have 30 odd game carts in a box that I take with me everywhere. ready to play. No hassles. Ideally I would also liek to have a 'room' to put all thisi stuff in so it looks all fancy and shit.

Fairy snuff. It really comes down to the type of dude you are. Im careful with everything. Id eat an apple with a bruise but I wouldnt buy it. One could argue that 'mint' means more money when you sell it. True or not Id still be as fussy. Blame my mother.
Mind you, if my place burnt down Id be bummed, but not overly upset. Its just shit. Same stuff homeless people push around in their trolley. Hardly important on any level.

It's not that crazy. It doesn't take that long to add up. Hell, the shmups and fighters probably take up about a quarter of the collection. You start completing sets, like all of KOF, all the Sakura Wars, all the shmups. Once you get the essential titles, you start to find the golden roughies and obscurities that make it all worthwhile, such as L.O.L., Napple Tale, Lost Golem etc. The Dreamcast suits my gaming tastes better than the current crop and I'm quite content to play through my collection now and well into my retirement.

It depends on whether the game you wish to pirate exceeds the limits of CD storage, since Dreamcast games come on propriety 1GB Giga Discs. Also, burnt CD's wear out your GD-drive quicker.

Curious. Why SEGA? Was that the system you had (or wanted) as a kid?

Hmm, As you can tell from my photos I'm very disorganised. I think I have about 30 or 40 Saturn games. Nothing particularly rare or impressive.
Why not Sega? I was sort of a Sega fanboy in the 90's, but I did have a healthy respect for Nintendo. Started with a Game Boy, then moved onto the Master System which still holds nostalgic value in my heart. Had a Mega Drive/Mega CD/32X behemoth for many years, then moved on to Dreamcast and filled in the Saturn gap only recently. Although I can get into story driven rpg style games, I'm mostly an arcadey-shooty-fighty kind of gamer, and Sega satisfied those needs better than Nintendo or anyone else ever has.

is that actually true though? I always thought it was to scare the wannabe pirates. It's pretty much true, although I'm sure there's still people out there playing burnt games who have yet to get an issue.
Most people will tell you though that the issue lies with the lens/motor. Dreamcast games used a propietry disc and actually were read from the outside in. Cd's on the other hand are burnt from the inside out, thus making the lens move counter-intuitively (backwards instead of forwards), and causes the motor to wear out quicker.
Ironically though, the dreamcast actually allowed for audio cd playback.

I never had a NES so there's a few games I wouldn't mind getting, but I can't be arsed buying a working NES and tracking down the games when it's just so much easier to get the games on VC and play them on a console that can be hooked up on component video cables for a much higher quality than tuning a console in through the aerial.

Exactly the way they're used for comics. One strip of tape at the back for easy opening & re-seal. Just make sure you dispel the air before folding the bag over.
If they seem to be more 'fitted' than that its because after a while the bags tend to shape themelves to the boxes. If you have your games side by side on a shelf you'd fold the corners and left over space so the bag was a snug fit. After a while they'll just keep that shape, even though youre only using a small strip of sticky at the back.
And yes I cut the bags to size for GBA games (otherwise the bags would go around twice).
But enough about bloody bags. Post your GBA collection Gemerald. I recall it being reasonably large (and full of kid anime titles :) ).

Why SEGA? Was that the system you had (or wanted) as a kid?
Even though I realise this question isn't pointed at me, I feel the urge to answer it.
I'm 14 now, the only video game knowledge I had when I was around 3-10 was what I heard and saw my Dad (Doom, Road Rash) and Brother (everything else) were doing. Big influence. So all I really had was a computer with my brothers games and a Playstation, mostly my brothers games but a couple of my picks (mostly his though, he knew what was good). So SEGA was a myth to me.
Now that SEGA don't make much anymore (other than milking the Sonic franchise dry) It sort of feels more 'cool' I suppose to have them all. Hard to describe... but this doesn't mean I ignore Nintendo. I have a NES and a small pile of games, and I might be getting a SFC. Currently concentrating on Saturn in my collection, though I might focus on Dreamcast since hardware-wise my collection is horrible (All I have is a console + different types of leads, 2 VMU's (1 new in box) and 4 controllers (1 in box as-new, I bought it new... is the controller I use.))
Also, I might do the comic bag thing with a lot of my games. Just need to find a 'good' comic shop near me... anyone know one in Melbourne?

Anyone know if that Minotaur shop is open on weekends? They've got comic sleeves - $10 for a pack of $100.
Pep given for The Revenge of Shinobi. It's in my 50 best games of all time list. Along with Strider and Streets of Rage 2 it's among the Megadrive's very best imo.

Maybe its just me, but PS2/XBOX/GCN just don't feel very retro yet >_> Then again... the DC does... I'm conflicted :/
As for my collection... its hard to describe. I get stuck on a series or niche and seek out every title I can. For example I have a few puroresu games (jap pro wrestling) and a few King of Fighters across multiple platforms. I don't really base it on getting a system and then all the games I can find for it.
Craziest purchase would've been paying around $80 Discworld (the first one) on PSone. Purely because it's low res and runs like shit. Its did complete the PSone Discworld trilogy though.

I don't class them as retro yet.
PS2 games are still being made and sold in stores so I see that generation as still current (even though Xbox and GCN games aren't around any more)
In my crazy little world there's a 2 generation gap between retro and current. Not that it makes any difference for anyone else, if you think something's retro then post away!

I definitely feel the GCN and XBOX are retro. Not only for the fact that games are no longer made but because the mainstream do not play these consoles anymore.

Hey there :)
I prefer Black Stone as a multiplayer game, it's not as fun single player.
It's quite similar to Gauntlet and Champion's of Norrath, It's not a great game but it's fun way to kill time.

Neat stuff, but I want that Dreamcast bag!!! And Arcade stick.
Also, is that NGPC "Flash cart" like a saaaay "backup tool"?
Also since you have both, can you tell me if the power supplies on the SFC and SNES are the same? Since my bro has a SNES and I'm getting a SFC soon that doesn't have a PSU.

It certainly is a backup tool, but while the reader can dump ROMS, I've never been able to write any onto the blank cartridge. Could be a problem with either but my money is on the cartridge...
The power supplies are different as are the connectors. The SFC has a strange power requirement & upon going to the Dick Smith, Tandy options in AU I had to give up & grab one off Ebay.

Ok, I'll rephrase that: it HAS a box, but for systems I use I keep the boxes & the systems seperate. For something like a Pokemon N64, it'll stay in its box as I have 2 N64s I can use (1 Pal & 1 NTSC). Keeping it in the bag is so much more convenient.

I don't use the box, it's on a shelf with a heap of other boxes. I keep the dreamcast in the bag, in a plastic box with all the games & accessories. You can see the box I keep it in just to the back left of the DC box in the photo. I have a heap of those boxes as they stack nicely & collapse when not in use.
Yeah, I should post some pics of games, but I have so many. When Panic in Nakayoshi Land & Wrecking Crew 98 arrive that will make 195 SNES games. That's my biggest collection & the one I keep a detailed list of. My girlfriend wants to go through all the other systems though, so when she finally insists on it there's a few weekends lost :)

Game Boy Colors are close to worthless. You shouldn't spend more than $20 on a boxed/near mint model.

Not really a retro item, but the classic arcade cabinet controls are a thing of the past.
I got this thing to play all the arcade games I have on the PS2/PS1. I find the stick a lot harder than the dual shock 2 d-pad at the moment. Probably because these hori arcade sticks are rigged for serious 2D fighter dudes. Its overly sensitive. You can nearly set off a button by blowing on it.
I dont think the photo does justice to how big and meaty this thing is. And its built with real japanese arcade parts. So the chances of it ever breaking are slim.

Seriously though. The GCN tends to get a lot of flack. Sure It wasnt Nintendo's finest hour creatively, but the system still had some great games. I assume those that knock it never spent enough time with the better titles or are playing out some long lost Sega fanboy thing.
GAMECUBE > DREAMCAST.
There I said it (*runs for the hills!!!)
And incase I havent annoyed enough people....
PS2 > GAMECUBE > DREAMCAST > XBOX1
(Now even the Nintendo fans are offended)

He's got Killer 7. So as far as Im concerned his GCN collection is JUST FINE. So dont listen to him marble!! :D
Why thank you, kind sir. Yes, Killer7 is rather awesome. But I would still like a few RPGs, MGS, and maaaybe Metroid Prime and F-Zero. Other then that I think my Cube collection is pretty nice.
and P.N.03
While I do own it (just got it a few days ago) I'm not sure whether I'd say it's a good game or not. But I'm still glad I got it because it's not quite like anything else and it satisfied my curiosity.
....and Sonic Air Riders
In all seriousness, Sonic Riders is pretty decent, definitely the best of the newer Sonic games. If you're gay enough to bother getting really good at it, it is really fast paced, but it has a weird learning curve.
PS2 > GAMECUBE > DREAMCAST > XBOX1
I love my DC, but I have the same problem with it as I do my Saturn, just not to the same extent: It's too damn hard to get games for it that aren't racers, fighters or other arcade ports. Not that I dislike those things but I like variety. But I still loved Sonic Adventure and the DC is still the only thing that can play the first Shenmue game (one of my all time favourite games).
And I've found some of the best gaming experiences ever on the cube but there's no doubt in my mind that if I were to invest a heap of time and money into the PS2 that it would come out on top just because of the sheer amount of games available for it.

While I do own it (just got it a few days ago) I'm not sure whether I'd say it's a good game or not.Trust me, it loses its coolness very quickly (and all but the last boss are stupidly easy). I tried to love it, but level after level of repeating the same steps against the same enemies in stupidly similar environments kinda took its toll. And being told I'd have to go through it again to get the final suit was like torture... so I cheated <<
It was totally worth it though, only just to also activate the big arse cheat.

^ Animal Crossing, Resident Evil 4, Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos? Poor call there man. Not as popular as the PS2, but the Cube will hold it's value better than xbox or PS2.
The PS2 was obviously better than the GCN, and you could argue the Xbox was aswell, but that really depends on how much you like FPS. The GCN gets way too much flak, it has some of the best games ever, such as Resident Evil 4.

Alright; took pics of some stuff for y'all. Unfortunately don't have much DC stuff, it's what I'm working on getting now. I've paid for and expecting to recieve Daytona USA 2001 [PAL-E] next week. Intend on buying MSR and JSR from Play-Asia since MSR is missing its front cover completely, and JSR's hinge is broken + it's box art is faded.
While I was at it I took picturs of my ENTIRE SFC collection, my NGPC collection (everything, except Sonic from PA, came from the_tic_begins).
Other notes: -The black first-party Sega Saturn Light Gun is faulty, its plug is missing pins... all I need is a SS controller extension, cross breed them and it should be good as new.
-Quake 3 Arena, Planet Ring and Shenmue: Chapter One Yokosuma [JAP] (Dreamcast titles) are new and unopened.
-Expecting to recieve an unboxed Dreamcast Gun late next week.
-I intend to expand my DC collection's software, check out my list (link) (http://www.hyper.com.au/forums/showthread.php?p=836555)

SMD was my first retro platform purchased, got 2 controllers, SMD2, manual from cashies for $20. Same day, before I went ot pick it up, I was at Video Games Heaven... first time being there, discovered the shop in a SC. Saw Mega Drive games, got Sonic 2. I was about 12 back then, but its what started me off on this rewarding hobby of buying old shit.
The SMD is the only platform which I haven't intentinally gone out and bought heaps of stuff for (with the exception of the x strike series, which i got for $1 each delivered on eBay). I've just picked up everything I saw in op-shops (well I don't like going op-shopping; my parents do. My Mum's gotten me a lot of my SMD stuff :) ) I got another SMD2 console in some op-shop for 2 year olds toy place... I got it for $20; bought it because it had Road Rash 2. Sentimentallity - I use to play Road Rash heaps when I was 5. A lot. As you can see I've since gotten a second copy and a Road Rash 1 cart.
Something that may be worth mentioning and for you lot to rant about is that the only games in all those SMD games that I've actually played (as opposed to tested) are Sonic 2 and the Strike games. :/

Had a second look at Tandy today and I discovered that what I'm looking for ain't easy.
Basically needs a power adapter that will output 10VDC, and all the Digitor ones with variable voltage outputs skip from 9v to 12v... so I don't know how well it'll run with just 9v, certainly ain't game enough to fire 12v into it.
Secondly it needs to be a DC adapter with the center pin negative... something which I've just learned.
I have found out however that the Amperage only needs to be greater than 1A (1000mA).
Dizrythmia
20-06-2008, 05:09 PM
I assume this is for the Neo Geo. You should be OK with 9, but I've never taken the risk with mine (which is why I've never used it) so yeah... probably best go to Ebay & get a proper adapter.
If it's not for the Neo Geo I'm sure there's SOMETHING in the above paragraph that may help :)
Lazlow
20-06-2008, 05:25 PM
Yeah its for the Neo Geo. It shipped with the jap adapter, so I can always go a stepdown converter if I have to, but I'd rather see if I can get a local adapter first.
Dizrythmia
20-06-2008, 05:40 PM
I couldn't find one, but good luck. I also had similar problems with a Super Famicom (slightly different voltage needs to a SNES & the adapter connector is different). If you find one for the Neo I'd be curious to know where. Step down adapter would be the best bet. You can also use it for other imported machines you buy.

20-06-2008, 05:45 PM

So apparently the last revision AESs (ones which use PRO-POW-3 adapters, ie mine) had voltage ratings that varied from 9V-11V.
So I may go for that 9v, 1000mA adapter I saw... as long as its regulated and the correct polarity.

It will have to been to keep feeding a constant 9V.
There are basically two types of plug pack - regulated and unregulated. A normal plug pack consists of a transformer (to drop the 240V mains to a suitable level) a rectifier or rectifiers (to turn the AC into rough DC) and some smoothing devices (usually electrolytic capacitors). This type has DC that is still a little dirty but more importantly, the voltage drops as the load (current) increase. So for example, if the plug pack is rated at 5V 500mA, then it might deliver 9V at no current, and drop to 3V at 800mA. This is mainly because of limitations in what the transformer can deliver. The irony is that if you use an unregulated plug pack that's rated high in current, it might deliver enough volts to fry the device anyway. A regulator is an additional circuit that maintains the voltage exactly where it should be.
So apparently the last revision AESs (ones which use PRO-POW-3 adapters, ie mine) had voltage ratings that varied from 9V-11V.
So I may go for that 9v, 1000mA adapter I saw... as long as its regulated and the correct polarity.
Digitor AC/DC adaptors come with a set of differing plugs in each set. They can go on one of two ways to determine polarity (neg/pos centre etc.)

Picked up a Digitor one, max output 1A, and set it to 9V. But the thing didn't fire up.
So I'm probably going to have to find a step down converter to make sure this thing actually works.
Which brings me to - Step Down Converters; What to look for.
HELP PLEASE!
EDIT:
Scratch that, I think this adapter I've bought is a dud. It fails to fire up my guitar effects unit, which is being powered by a different Digitor adapter (9v, 0.8A)

Better look at my Megadrive stuff, all the games are the same as the last photo but this one includes both my Megadrives (although the SMD2 is missing an RF unit) as well as my controllers and arcade sticks (one of which doesn't work.) Oh, and I learned to use flash :p
I used to have another SMD1 until me and my friend turned it into a guitar.

Saturn stuff. Will probably get rid of it pretty soon (as with NES and SMS stuff but I don't think I can bring myself to get rid of my SNES and SMD stuff :p ).

Oh yeah, I forgot to put them in the photo but I have an ntsc version of Street Fighter 2: Turbo and a converter thing that lets me play it.

And I also have TMNT2: The Arcade Game and Ufouria but they're not pictured.

Nice Marble.
Why sell your Saturn and NES suff? The money you'd get hardly makes it worth your while. IMO the only real reason to sell most collections is time and space. i.e not enough time to appreciate / play them and / or not enough space to store them.
So one must assume you're a busy man living in a small studio apartment with 3 cousins.

I'm looking for a copy of Secret of Mana for snes.
Would it be cheaper to buy a PAL copy, or to get a second hand famicon and then buy the NTSC copy.

I've got a heap of time and space... I just feel that in terms of 8-bit, I've played pretty much all I want to play and there's no use having stuff that just gathers dust when I could be getting at least some money for it. Same with the Saturn. Well not really. I don't think I can have much more fun with it without forking out huge amounts of cash but there are still some games I wanted to play, but oh well.
The money I get will probably be used to beef up my cube and DC collections.

Yeah, like craptest said, but the pal and ntsc version seem pretty expensive. I guess it depends, how cheaply can you get a second hand famicon?
Combined with shipping from the US, SoM doesn't seem to be *that* much cheaper then a pal copy.

So like I used my camera phone but I forgot to change the setting so it turned out pretty poor. Oh and I still have failed to catalogue my collection too.
