I'm hoping to meet with a guy soon about making the website I was banging on about a while back. I expect this will take 12 months at least.

These have all been in the video thread or my sig at various times but will in future pimp them in here.

The first few didn't really provide any real laughs, but I laughed out loud a few times during Exposing Smutty Lyrics, although I'd say it went a little long - it was great otherwise, though.

I wonder if this speaks for my level of maturity moreso than your comedic ability. >_>

I could not sit through the whole of the smutty lyrics one.

Seemed funny enough, but I couldn't help but cringe.

Sorry Aub, but I prefer your singing to your comedy.

aubergine
15-10-2008, 12:51 AM
the smutty lyrics thing was wholly improvised. I just picked the theme and went with it, knowing nearly anything can be made into the smut. One or two times I laugh at the discovery in the moment.

It was just an out-take from the Portal Song recording session I released on its ownsome.

As for comedy, I amuse myself. It's nice when other people can enjoy it too.

Blue

Now, the Portal Song was funny!

Rambo
15-10-2008, 12:55 AM
Wow, that was the best response I've ever heard to criticism.

But I suppose for thinking on the spot, that's pretty good. I'm no comedian, but maybe it would be less cringy if you sat down somewhere? Or the setting was set some where outside of your home?

Blue
15-10-2008, 12:59 AM
Yeah, the song one has potential, I'd just recommend filming it elsewhere, and maybe editing it a bit, perhaps applying the joke to a few songs.

I laughed at everyone except Fisherman. Then again, I'm easily amused.

I figured I might as well put the rest of them in here for ease.

I'd been saying I'd sing the Portal song and post it and people dared me to do it. Given that most people on the forum have no idea what I look like or am like, I wanted to make it as strange and unsettling as possible, check the lack of blinking for example.

it took ages to get it right in one take, hence the deleted scenes section afterwards.

Plants are boring, and so is this video. I hope to get around to reediting it a minute or so shorter. It was very fun to make though, we improvised heaps of stuff and this story sort of emerged from the improv.

Bogan Bargains is brilliant! I lost it during the first bit -
"Real ****in bargains for total fffff****in bogans!"

Also, just watching Ubercaptain, I have to ask, Aub; can you do a Woody Allen impression?

I'm watching the portal song at uni with headphones on and at the bit in the out-takes where you say you should comb your hair I yelled out "Don't comb it, cut it for God's sake!" and now people are looking at me.

Fantastic though.

aubergine
17-10-2008, 12:19 AM
I did cut it in the end after seeing a photo of myself. "why didn't anyone tell me my hair looked so awful?" I asked many supposed "friends."

Glad you found it so immersive.

I'm hoping to meet with a guy soon about making the website I was banging on about a while back. I expect this will take 12 months at least.
I'm supposed to be working on Metalstock's website, hopefully it'll be done by the end of this month. It'll be pretty high-tech and I'm giving it to them for free, so I might be able to modify the code to your requirements.

Then you'll only need web hosting with PHP + MySQL support, a domain name (these two are usually bundled as a package offer, and definitely not hard to find), client-side stuff like HTML and images (I could probably do HTML, but if you want anything majroly graphical you'll need to find someone else), and, if you don't want to embed YouTube vids like we do here on Hyper (to which I ask, why not?), a video player solution (I can probably get something similar to The Escapist's one).

My code will offer a news article system, a blog system (these two are practically the same thing), a review system, maybe a preview system, a feature system, a forum, apparently a competition system, and maybe a myspace-ish approach to user profiles. Probably other stuff too, the Metalstock guys aren't exactly stern businessmen so they'll probably wing a hundred requests my way when they get the prototype. Features will have switches so you can disable them whenever you want, so if you want the blog but not the news articles then you can disable the news articles.

I'll give it to you for free, but under a license that'll basicly stipulate that the code and any derivative works* are mine, and you can't give it away or sell it without my permission. (I'm not sure whether or not I'm going to try to sell this solution to others yet, I might just GPL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_General_Public_License) it)

Or you could get one of the many freeware/GPL blogging solutions out there, though I'm not sure how much you want to do with your website.

*As in code. I don't get to own your content or domain, but if you get another PHP guy on to add to the system, the resultant system is mine.

Thanks for the offer I'll keep it in mind. Post a link to the site you make when you're done!

Currently I'm looking into the possibility of creating a local community group that actually manufactures the videos, as the the website is not going to be much use without a steady flow of the actual product.

I did some minor re-editing and fixed some issues with Passion for Plantlife then uploaded it again and deleted the original. Lost my viewcount unfortunately but it was languishing around 200 hits anyway. I'm trying to track down links to it and update them with the new version.

I might put up a section of outtakes from it later. I wanted to splice two files together but the other one is on an external drive which for some reason it making my computer crash every time I try and get to it.

It's been fun to follow the "ratings" for these things. Bogan Bargains has been slowly but steadily creeping up towards a thousand hits.

I liked Bogan Bargains the best, for the alliteration, if nothing else.

I liked Pilates and FIshermen because they told a very simple gag but did it in a very quick and efficient way. I could see them as filler in between my elaborate gags on a skit show.

aubergine
18-11-2008, 09:49 AM
You have elaborate gags EB?

I toyed with using the superman sketch as a wraparound with the shorter ones in for that quick cut sketch show style for a disc I made the oyher day but opted to keep them seperate for now.

What we were after were a set of physical poses for the grabs in the title sequence, so naturally all the stuff I'm saying is complete garbage.

Looks like I forgot to add in this one from when people were speculating on who'd be the new Doctor Who. I later tipped "Matt Smith" into the tags and got a bunch of views from angry British people.

zyVoinaButM

Spent all of 5 minutes making it, does it show? That really is Dad calling me to dinner, otherwise I'd have made up some more material for it.

I really came in here to post a 3000-view milestone for Bogan Bargains (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6JdjcTzroE) NSFW, which continues to get passed around slowly.

When you post a video on YouTube, it gives you a function called "Insight" that provide some data and graphs on user trends. For example, in the last month 47% of viewers were female, and 40% of all views were in the 13-17 age bracket. 25% of all views were found by people specifically searching for combinations of Bogan Bargains / Bonza Barry and various spellings thereof, which suggest that people hear of it by other means then specifically search for it. A further 21% of views come from "viral/other" which youtube tells me are views they can't track but they believe they are from people emailing links to each other.

It's actually really fascinating to watch and wonder about how these things spread around. I'm wondering if I'm unwittingly becoming a hero among schoolkids like we all thought Rodney Rude was a ****ing genius when I was at school because he swore a lot.

Surgeon.
22-04-2009, 12:46 AM
I'm surprised it doesn't say '21% of your viewers are Surgeon'

I find myself watching Bogan Bargains at least once a week, and still gets a laugh every time.

aubergine
22-04-2009, 12:21 PM
Awesome!

Actually I think you are the only person to have put in on a playlist (though some others have favourited it) which perhaps officially makes you my biggest fan. My question is, how much would you pay for some of my whiskers? I'll started keeping them when I shave but I'm not too sure how to separate them from the cream.

Some pretty great stuff there Aubergine. I really liked the concept of the Fisherman one; it would be impossible for anyone who has had one of those... things.... not to laugh at it.

Also the smutty lyrics one reminded of Chris Lilley for some reason... make of that what you will.

Keep em coming!

Bogan Bargains - a classic. Can't wait to show this to my brother. I enjoyed BB as much as The Chasers "crazy warehouse guy" ad parodies. I do so love a good parody, it's new and funny, yet instantly familiar. For some reason I never get tired of good bogan humour. Jokes about them, not jokes from them, that would be a F***ing disgrace

Now if only there were a way to combine the two....

We've got Bogans! So many bogans that absolutey have to be out the door by f***ing midnight tonight!
Fat Bogans Short bogans Smelly Bogans Stupid Bogans Shelia Bogans and Prick Bogans all at MASSIVELY REDUCED F***ING PRICES!!

Okay, after messing around in some other forums and watching some more wacky wacky Pokoyo (a show for kids, clearly aimed at my maturity level) I went back to the youtube channel and checked out Aub's other vids.

I enjoyed the Superman one, but felt it went a bit too long - it didn't have that snappiness to it that comedy often has. You know what I mean, where a skit is just the right length. Too long and it gets boring. Too short and people are left scratching their head going "whuh?" But the idea was fun "superhero foiled by domestic duties", nice.

Liked the Fisherman skit also, only thing I would change is the text on the wrapper, so that it matches with the end text.

My second favourite after Bogan though was Johhny Depp's next movie. Short, snappy and to the point. It hits you like a smoked kipper to the face at 3 o' clock in the morning. I guess it could lose 2-3 seconds and still be as effective, if not more so.

It's great to see interesting videos, but I'm amazed how often on youtube videos just go on too damn long, that's why editing is so important imo.

Anyhow, just my opinions, I don't know shit about jack.

What happened to my thread with Photoshops of my bowels in it? Arse.

I've filmed some things recently but being very lazy with editing. I did spend time in emergency with pnuemonia though, still coughing all day 6 weeks later.

I'm not sure what's happened today to warrant this, but Bogan Bargains has shot up something like 700 views today (it just passed 10,000 views a short time ago then woosh!) most it's ever done in a day before is a bit over 100 I think, and only every now and then (100 would be a massive spike ever few months or so.)

The 'insight' function isn't indicating where all the hits are coming from.

You'll be pleased to know some true sequels to Bogan Bargains are on the way btw.
