Persian is actually a decent Physical sweeper, of the normal type.
And the Porygon family is good.

Furret is a HM mule that is obtained early in the game and people are too lazy to switch out and the npcs in the game are easily beatable with only 5 pokemon.
They've evolved in a similar manner. Aesthetically, not so much, but the fighting engine has evolved and changed significantly. Same as Pokemon. Thing is, because the metagame of Pokemon isn't the core experience for as many people as it is for fighting games, the evolution of the series in that respect isn't always obvious.
Oh im well aware that the Fighting mechanics in all those games have changed but so have pokemons. People just seem to ignore that. The reason I say pokemon has evolved more is because of its extra additions such as Pokethlon and Contests which not only have their own depth to them but exist inside an already large game.

Go on, try and show that any generation after the second brought more significant changes to the series than second generation itself did.

Related: Gen V better have some new types to mess up the balance.
And a vampire duck pokemon.
And ftr there are some pretty powerful normal types. I would say Slaking but that's offset by it's shitty ability. Snorlax is pretty freakin' sweet.

Gen 5 needs a goddamn Farfetch'd evolution.
Aran knows his shit.
The only things I can think of is the splitting of moves into physical and special.

Day/Night cycle just annoyed me in the original Silver.
It was annoying cause the emulator I was using at the time didn't emulate the inbuilt clock so I had to play the day/night out in real time :/
Clockw0rk
12-04-2010, 01:06 PM
Day/Night cycles were clearly so important that they were removed from Ruby and Sapphire, which (as I've already stated 2 pages back) brought more new features than any other Pokemon game so far.
AranchineD
12-04-2010, 01:38 PM
Except Ruby and Sapphire still had a 'real-time cycle'. OOPS THAT WAS INTRODUCED IN GOLD/SILVER TOO. True story: the Day/Night cycle adds variety to Pokemon appearances and various events...and people complain about it. Yep. Nice logic guys.
As for the 'features' you brought up before: random 'Natures' are not a good feature. Getting a weaker Pokemon based on no other reason than 'chance' is dumb.
Yes it updated berries. Gold/Silver introduced them in the first place. Refining an old mechanic != introducing a new mechanic entirely.
It added new Pokemon but they are mostly terribly designed with even less inspired names than 'Tangela'. Quality over quantity. And it did not introduce any new types, unlike Gold/Silver/Crystal.
And no, the Battle Tower was not new. It was in Crystal. The 'remixed' Pokemon second gen game.
All other features that are actually improvements you listed pale in comparison to all the new features that Gold/Silver introduced. As said above it introduced more types that balanced some the power overpowered types from the original games plus about double the move set that again balances everything out better, and in addition to that there's the whole phone system, the ability to have your Pokemon hold items to affect abilities and such, and actual high level challenges in the form of Mt. Silver + Red, these are all huge changes from the original games.
And if you want to get into the really minute details, there's how your Pokemon now had an experience bar show up in battle (only an aesthetic change but it was still nice), male and female genders of Pokemon (plus the whole Daycare Center system), shiny Pokemon, the more varied ball types with unique properties instead of just having different grades of a normal Poke Ball, that you don't get screwed over by forgetting to change to an empty storage box when you try to catch Pokemon.
An improved Storage Box and Double Battles cannot compare to all the changes 2nd gen introduced over the first game.

I don't think I ever complained about it. At least, I hope I didn't.

Most people can ignore them since they just change how stats increase when Pokemon level up. The people really into it can breed to get the right one. I don't see it as dumb.

I'll be honest, I skipped GSC and went straight to RSE so I was seeing a lot of the 'features' (no idea why you put this in quotes but I'll run with it) for the first time. Picking up Heart Gold on Wednesday though, looking forward to it :D
On another topic, I like the visual style of Black and White. It's pretty much what I was expecting Diamond/Pearl to look like (and consequently why I never bought them, since the visual upgrade was so minor).

Going back to Emerald, it feels like the equivilent of an RPG maker game. Probably had the worst art direction of all games. At least in regards to the world, pokemon sprites were pretty good.

I think the worst thing about the pokemon games is the way the sprite makes you think you're controlling a midget.

Why let your sexual insecurities get in the way of having an awesome Arcanine?
I have been spamming the power course at the Pokeathlon lately to get enough points for a dusk stone. I always own it with my team of Faraligatr, Donphan and Pinsir and I only needed about 300 more points to get to 3000 for the stone so I was all like "Pffffft, easy!"
My next go was an absolute shocker and I ended up with 2998 points.

Go after the legendary dogs. Ho-Oh first.
however they have roar (the dogs, not ho oh). Latios doesn't. however it does have recover to alleviate status issues. it is also level 35. Dogs level 40.
Note: Latios doesn't have roar or anything. False swipe can be learned by Farfetch'd (I caught in the forest inbetween goldenrod and azalea town).
Jynx usually has mean look (did when i caught on ice path at level 22). As it's psychic you'll have the added bonus of latios's attack lustre purge not having much effect on it.
Go use mewtwo, level jynx up along with farfetch'd.

083 Farfetch'd Normal Flying
098 Krabby Water

292 Shedinja Bug Ghost
335 Zangoose Normal
341 Corphish Water
342 Crawdaunt Water Dark
347 Anorith Rock Bug
348 Armaldo Rock Bug
359 Absol Dark
402 Kricketune Bug
445 Garchomp Dragon Ground
451 Skorupi Poison Bug

There are
Beedrill Bug Poison
046 Paras Bug Grass i don't care bloody forests or something
047 Parasect Bug Grass
083 Farfetch'd Normal Flying Azalea Forest
098 Krabby Water Water areas, good rod.
099 Kingler Water evolve krabby
104 Cubone Ground rock tunnel
105 Marowak Ground evolve cubone
123 Scyther Bug Flying Bug Catching Contest
127 Pinsir Bug Bug Catching Contest
215 Sneasel Dark Ice Mt. Silver (uncommon)
290 Nincada Bug Bug Catching contest
Are the only ones fairly EASILY obtainable.
If we discount evolved forms (not inc beedrill), this leaves us with :
Beedrill Bug Poison <-- its pre-evolutions can't learn false swipe, and it evolves at what, lvl 12? so that's easy I'd say.
046 Paras Bug Grass i don't care bloody forests or something
083 Farfetch'd Normal Flying Azalea Forest
098 Krabby Water Water areas, good rod.
104 Cubone Ground rock tunnel
123 Scyther Bug Flying Bug Catching Contest (rare)
127 Pinsir Bug Bug Catching Contest (uncommon)
215 Sneasel Dark Ice Mt. Silver (uncommon)
290 Nincada Bug Bug Catching contest
These are all of the easily obtainable ones, catchable in soul silver. This does not include safari zone, or hoenn sounds radio, which increases the list by about 5-6.
But all of this said, all I did was just use my farfetch'd at level 16 because It didn't need to survive (latios paralyzed)
