This, added enough to be worthy of playing even after playing the first game to death, before the rest of the games in the series just did absolutely nothing whatsoever to further the series.
Also Silver FTW.

Did you ever put two female Ledybas in the Daycare Centre together?
Aww yeah
I'm actually excited, as this will surely include R/B/Y's Kanto region as the original did, providing a massive amount of updated Pokemon gaming in one DS cartridge.
Fingers crossed.

Well Gamefreak already remade Pokemon red/blue and green with Pokemon Fire red and Leaf green on the gba, so there's no real need to remake a game of a remake, which assumes that the upcoming title is no doubt a Pokemon Gold/Silver remake, im guessing:
Pokemon Metallic Gold and Metallic Silver, i could be wrong though.
Edit: Btw if they were remaking something like Pokemon Trading Card Game gbc, i would so excited!

Damn straight!
Game-wise, music-wise, and atmosphere-wise, G/S/C are the best IMO! Even if D/P/P are the best battle-wise.
I really, really hope this is what the news is about, especially since there were Gold and Silver balloons at the announcement of an announcement!
Yeah, I never went in for Fire Red or Leaf Green, but the DS is far enough removed from a GBC for me to justify it. The gradual improvements they've brought in with R/S/E and D/P/P all coming in at once, plus the first two regions and Pokemon, not to mention the retrofit of all the new Pokes, should make for the undisputed ultimate Pokemon title.

It's been pretty obvious Gamefreak would be doing this since Diamond/Pearl's release. They had various nods towards the Gold&Silver games (Red Gyarados and one of the gym leaders are the first that spring to mind), on top of this, one of the locations pokemon can be listed from in the game code is Johto. Good to know we should be getting an official announcement soon.
Silver ftw, by the way.

It's pointless anyway, all my shiny Pokemon and awesome leveled up team are gone. Fixing the cartridge up would be like reviving a long-dead friend only to find they'd lost their memories; painful.

Heart of gold I understand, but... I guess they just tried to make silver fit in with that theme. Pretty terrible names. I'll still buy Silver, and call it 'Pokemon Silver: DS Remake'.
Heart and soul are the Jap names and they sound like it. Something tells me they may change it for the western audience.
Im in though. Pumped for a chance to relieve one of my top 5 games of all time.
Any speculation as to localised replacements?

I'm hoping for 'Pokemon: Quicksilver'.
Look, we all know they're scraping the barrel for names nowadays, I wouldn't be surprised if those names are the intended U.S/U.K monikers.

Im sorry but there is really no need to rehaul the graphics system at the moment. The world would just look ugly with the current hardware and i really dont want to have my battles looking like the N64 ones. They were slow and i think that the pokemon sprites look far better than 3d models would.

The whole game has never really moved past Gold/Silver, so expecting them to change things up in a remake is silly. Nintendo will just keep on milking.

So many companies make less changes between games and they never get criticised of milking them. why is it that pokemon a game were the metagame gets shaken up with every generation release get criticised so often?
Im still doing things on my sapphire game cart let alone getting everything out of Diamond.

Generally, the only games that change less between each iteration are sports games. Even then, over a ten year period, something like Fifa would've changed a lot more than Pokemon.
Seriously, pokemon has changed so little. It's lame. It's the same thing again and again, and tbh, it's boring.
The graphics themselves aren't that bad, and I don't mind the style of the D/P ones. What gets me is that the battle scenes look crap. Seriously, they could improve the looks without making them too long with the animations. Hell, they could have an option to turn off animations (which I believe they have). Seriously, the battles are a big part of the game, whether you like it or not, they need to look good.
Also, the grid system shits me no end. It's an extremely old thing that they don't need to use. I get pissed off with the game because of this.
It's not like they have to do a massive update or anything, but if they don't upgrade it at all, it's pointless. And not only that, they just keep on re-releasing the old games and it's ****ing lame. I'm not going to support this bullshit.

Id say gta has changed less than pokemon in its last four versions. What about Halos evolutions? Hell most fighting games add new characters/levels and little else between each game so im not sure why pokemon cops the crap it does.
Im not going to deny that that the main story system in pokemon has in fact been the same and needs something new but for many the real game is developing new teams with new items, pokemon and moves. In the most recent the physical special move split added a lot to the competitive system. Are you guys into the Pokemon metagame at all?
It doesn't really need anything more than a grid-based movement system. It's not an action-RPG.
It looks pretty good to me, and until we get a Nintendo handheld with proper 3D capabilities, the current look is a wise design choice.

Pokemon has changed massively since even Ruby/Sapphire. As was said in an interview, they have a whole team dedicated to just the battle system alone. Goddamn, so many changes! The rules are rewritten and adjusted everytime.
Non-battle gameplay? Not as much. Who gives a **** though. If you aren't playing Pokemon for the battling, you're never going to get into depth with it and as such aren't going to like it as much anyway.
Gosh, Pokemon is the best.

I love when people say if you're playing a game differently you aren't playing it 'right'.
And those Halo comparisons are flawed. Sure, Halo hasn't changed much, but there have only been three games in the series. How many different Pokemon games have their been? And how many remakes?
For those of us who don't give a rat's about competitive battling and spending ages grinding/evolving/resetting/breeding/making berries, there isn't anything new since Silver/Gold.

How so? Three of the same game in six years has to be milking it by your standards.
Pokemon has had 4 different main games in 12 years and sure the remakes may be a little over the top but darned if it isnt good fun relieving memories with extras here and there.
This isnt taking into account all the other spin off games which from what ive heard are actually quite decent in their own right (not including the somewhat pointless stadium/battle revolution type games).

It was a great tool for playing the game, keeping your Pokemon organised, and the battles were pretty much the icing on the cake. I never would have snagged all 150 if I'd had to do it all on the small screen.

Two 'versions' of each game, plus a third version released 6 months to a year later doesn't seem like overkill? Not to mention multiple versions of remakes.
I don't even like Halo (the first one was okay, but I prefer my FPS on PC), but it doesn't seem anywhere near as stale as the Pokemon games to me.

yeah, I have to say that if it weren't for the n64 I might have borked my thumb (eternal callous of the spotless hand) even more. The d-pad on my old GBA is so pushed in you can't play it (even though it works fine after that).
remakes : needed cos the savegame died like a year ago.
needed: some sort of online storage thing through a service that comes when you make your pokemon so they are never lost again.
like a pokemon- add on to a nintendo wifi station or something.

Ive only ever bought one of each of the games so I really havent noticed it. Your right with the platinum, yellow, crystal versions but people seem to love those versions for some reason. The two versions of the one game was to encourage trading and i dont think your expected to buy both.

That's a pretty weak reason.
Better reason would be that they were unable to make it so that the original pokemon could be transferred to sapphire/ruby so they had to make a way for you to be able to obtain them. Now i think theyve just decided to do it again.

I dunno, the names aren't too bad, they'v grown on me. I'm so totally pumped for these games, as gold is undounbedtly my favourite GBC game, as well as my favourite pokemon game :D (too bad the starters suck, though :( )
Also, it's pretty much guaranteed that any copy of the original gold and silver games won't work anymore, because the internal clock used in the game was on the CARTRIDGE, which meant even when you weren't playing the game, it was using up battery life. The GBA generation will most likely fall into the same hole in about ten years time, actually (correct me if I'm wrong, of course). The DS on the other hand, has a clock built into the console itself, so there shouldn't be any problems, meaning that ten years on, your pokemon games will still be working :D

It was a frustrating year of dying technology for me.It's not so much a glitch as a hardware failure. Remember how in Red/Blue there was Missing No. Which you could battle, but stuffed up your game (and allegedly your game boy) if you tried to catch it.
That was my first experience of evil in Nintendo! I never knew what happened to the programmer that put that in. But actually, the internal clocks on Ruby/Sapphire also died after a few years, making you unable to grow berries. So maybe your theory of forced obsolescence holds weight.

they do feel quicker. Also, the menu system etc is a lot more user friendly and much better integrates the DS touch-screen. Ie, basically the menu in a way is always open, and you can access each function using the screen. Also, Lugia is in 3d in the intro screen and looks awesome.

I bought the Gold version back in the day and I'll be buying Gold again.
The last Pokemon game I bought was Ruby so I'm super excited to get back into it again.
Shit, I gotta finish Apollo Justice and Pheonix Wright: Justice for All first.

Better not be a DS remake of Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire because Nintendo are milking this franchise (although profitable) to death.
Out of curiosity was Pokémon Emerald (on GBA) the equivalent of Pokémon Yellow (mix of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue) or a mix of Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire?

Lol I was actually going to buy Pearl but never got around to it.
I always like to go with the least popular choice.I always thought that Red was more popular as a kid, but if I was going to buy one now, it'd probably be Blue. Was Red the more popular one because it had Charizard on it? I ended up getting the far superior Yellow, anyway.
If they'd kept the original Japanese Green version, nobody would have bought it. Venusaur was the clear weak link in those starters, as far as kids were concerned.

I'd say so. I did get the original Red version only because Charizard is so much better. I still remember when my Charmeleon evolved into Charizard and how excited I was.:D
I got Yellow as well, was it the same as Red and Blue? I can't remember.

It was a hybrid/improved Red and Blue. Pikachu was your default starter (it'd follow you around) but you could actually get Squirtle,Charmander and Bulbasaur early-ish (a few hours) into the game. Visuals were also better than R/B.

Highly doubt Nintendos that silly to release a remake after a remake. It really Looks like Gen 5 is on its way*. Could be a sign that the DS2 is on its way? Doubtfully but it would make for a great launch title. I know many people who pick up the handhelds for Pokemon.
*. Confirmed. new shilouetes of pokemon have been unveiled. Details coming feb 15.

Yellow did have much better visuals, but the Pikachu thing was a gimmick. They're doing it again with the HG/SS remakes, but I fail to see how they can condense Kyogre into one sprite.

This is what I was thinking... I'm pretty sure I only lost 5% of my money when I lost to the kimono girls. Though I think it's a good way to grind some XP if you lose the last fight. Gained $4000 from each fight won and only lost $4000 so you still end up making money .

The Pokewalker isn't about levelling - the instruction manual says it "might" raise your Poke by one level (that's all!). It doesn't work like the daycare centre, it's for catching rare and unobtainable Pokemon:

So I spent about 3-4 hours yesterday earning enough points in voltorb flip to buy myself an Eevee... only to find out that you can get a free one from Bill! :(

Kanto region :). Costs 6666 coins >_<. Guess I'll chuck it towards a Thunderbolt TM for my Dragonair.
Does anyone know if there's a chance of gift pokemon being female? I'd much rather my Eevee be female for obvious reasons.
Or, you know, you could get a Ditto from the Safari Zone.

Ditto or the game?
Ditto is always handy for breeding.

Ok I'm pretty sure that Morty (Ecruteak gym leader) is impossible to beat. His Gengar just OHK's all 6 of my pokemon with Shadow Ball.

Yeah both my Growlithe and Croconaw know Bite but they never get a chance to use it because the Gengar always moves first and kills in one hit with Shadow Ball.

Wow, thanks for the super-helpful tip!
Anyway, I got the Gengar by using Togetic to put it to sleep with Yawn and then kill it with Extrasensory.

I usually defeat all the trainers on route 38, 29 and 42 then take on the gym.
Quilava (Firey) had no trouble. :p

My main pokemon party is only 5 pokemon atm, i want to grab all the creatures i had back on Pokemon gold, which is Doduo, Raticate, Feraligatr, Ampharos, Graveler, and the 5th im still deciding on.

The only thing you probably wont like is the amount of pokebolls you go through trying to catch all 254/ish pokemon.

Miltank is the biggest hack-fight ever. It either Rollouts or Stomps on your head making you flinch 100% of the time yet never got poisoned from my Nidorino with Poison Point.
Either way I Double-Kicked that fatarsed cow on the udder so many times it will be seeping blood instead of milk.

I don't know if I should train a Houndoom or Charizard :(. The only dark move my team has is my Feraligatr's Crunch and I need a fire pokemon and with Charizard I can give my Pidgeot the arse. And it's a friggin Charizard! ><

Yeah, that Miltank fight was a bitch for me, too. I only had junk Pokemon left by the end of it so I was forced to use sand attack, potions and patience until it destroyed itself with struggle.

Screw Charizard, isnt he Fire/Flying? Flying is gonna let you down way more in battles than fire ever will. Go for a pokemon that is just Fire type and nothing else. Magmar is is pretty handy.

Yep but I need a dark Pokemon too which is where Houndoom would come in handy. I can't think of any good Dark Pokemon off the top of my head (only Umbreon, but that's too defence focussed for me). Any suggestions?
I really wonder how people in the Pokemon world who aren't trainers get around. There doesn't seem to be any kind of cars or trains or planes. I mean, if you lived there, you'd pretty much need to defeat some of the Gym leaders to get anywhere. What if you didn't want to be a trainer? Stupid Pokemon.

I can see the headlines now.
Pikachu killed by speeding driver, Ash Ketchum to sue for millions.
Today at 7:30 Pm Ash Ketchums Pikachu (Presumed to be Level 100) was run over by non other than Team Rockets James, who had given up trying to capture Pikachu for Giovanni (and the fact that Jessie died) and had been dabbing in illegal drugs such as marijuana and cocaine. Ash was interviewed today "I...I, just wish I hadn't had that fight with Pikachu over who got the last meatball, but Brock's cooking was sooo good, and Pikachu does shit all around the house to help... I MISS HIM SO MUCH!"
James (who's last name is unknown) was also presumed to be under the influence of alcohol when he hit Pikachu.
Little was known about his girlfriend Jessie, who was presumed to be killed in one of their "Team Rocket is blasting off again" moments.
Story continued on page 3...

-Magnet Train
-S.S. Anne
-S.S. Aqua
-Bicycle and motorbike transport (evidence: your own bike and 'Biker' trainers)
-Trucks (evidence: by Mew's truck in the original game)
-Cars (evidence: numerous episodes in the anime series)
I hope this has been an enlightening experience for you.

-I have never heard of the Magnet Train, so that can just **** off.
-That is a boat, it cannot drive on land.
-See above.
-The only other people riding bikes are also trainers.
-There is one truck, and it is never seen being driven and is presumbly an easter egg.
-Anime series does not count in cannon, fgt.
In related news, I just grinded for a couple of hours to get all my Pokemon to lvl 40 for the Elite 4.

Do this in a turn based MMO and you have the greatest game ever created. Choose your region and represent it...
