Yeah. IIRC the old lap record before they changed the course was set by a Sierra Cosworth.

EDIT: I think there used to be a video of it on youtube but I cant find it. I might be wrong about the old lap record too, it might have been a Gibson car that set it, Bluebird maybe. I cant remember :(

The wikitron (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Panorama_Circuit) doesn't seem to list any definitive pre-Chase records other than Brock's 1984 Group C record. The Group A record is shown as being Mark Skaife in 1991.

EDIT: I just noticed that Fifth Gear presenter Jason Plato holds the lap record for Super Tourers at Bathurst. Huh.

Porbably around the time of the Ch10/Ch7 V8 Supercar/ATCC split, the days where we had two Bathurst 1000s.

Yeah pre chase lap record was held by a bluebird. Which was still slower than a V8 Brute Ute.

Put the DTM V8 in the 190E and then spent about 2 hours trying to sort out the horrendous understeer. Think I've got it just about right, but it's still not great with quick changes in direction.

I feel like such a tit right now. :o Remember a few months back when Enrique (I think) complained about the Stig's Garage pack and was given a free copy by Turn 10? Well shortly after that I posted this on the official boards-

I know you guys at Turn 10 are probably sick of hearing this complaint, but you made your bed and now you gotta sleep in it.

I bought the Collector's Edition pack on day 1, had it preordered for months. I spent the best night of every month auto-refreshing the Forza 3 page on the Dutch, Canadian and Australian XBLMs every 2min to ensure I got the DLCs the instant they were available. Your contests are well & good but I don't have Twitter and I don't have Facebook, however I do have a Mastercard. I want to give you my money for these cars. Let me give you my money for these cars.

A few months back I was ribbing a Sony fan on a local gaming forum about how funny it'd be if I could drive the SLS AMG, GT5's hero car, in Forza 3 before GT5 even came out. Then this was announced and GT5 kept getting delayed - imagine my delight when it was actually going to happen! Except now an avid fan is being shafted, because the cars are only available to a VIP elite that I mistakenly thought I was a part of when I bought the Collector's Edition. Even if I did feel like flushing my money down the toilet for content that I mostly already have, the Ultimate Collection is nowhere to be found.

It might sound all doom & gloom but don't worry, this story actually has a happy ending! Yesterday I acquired a cheap PS3 when my housemate's new Bravia came with one, so it seems I'll be able to drive that SLS AMG after all - it just won't be in Forza 3.
I just went over there to see if they had any news on Forza 4 and found a 2mth old PM from the lead community manager with a code for the download. Whoops! :D

Yeah it was me that complained and got the free codes gifted to me (and it wasnt even on their official boards). Congrats on getting a code, shame it took two months to find! :D The three cars in the stig pack are all good for different reasons. The Koenigsegg is a speed demon (apparently upgradable to R1 class), the Lexus sounds like the Carrera GT and the SLS loves getting the tail out.

I only gave the Merc a quick blat, but the Lexus got a full lap around the Nurburgring because it's such a good drive. I was getting the back out at decent speeds when I pushed it, but it never felt like I was fighting for control. What I'm trying to say is that fast cars aren't often as forgiving as this feels when you push too hard. It drifts with the ease of something far slower. And good god is it a sexy looking piece of kit.

Its almost impossible to get the SLS sliding in GT5.

Its half the fun getting the car sideways and then there's the engine noise :D. Doesnt make for good laptimes though..meh-**** it! lol

What? That's literally all Clarkson did with it in the Top Gear special.

Yeah, what the hell?! The thing is a right little bastard with literally far more power than the rear tires know what to do with.

I did say in GT5 as in the game. i drove it in game and it felt like it was on rails.

Sorry, I meant I am shocked with how poor GT5's physics are if the car is as easy to slide IRL as Top Gear would suggest.

In GT5's defence, evo tested an SLS for eCOTY and said that it wasnt as tail happy as they were expecting it to be for a long wheelbase, front-mid engined car.

it is also in massive contrast to the forza 3 version of the car, i have only driven the GT5 version but from that experience and from what i have seen on top gear, magazines, and enriques descriptin it sounds like turn 10 got this one more accurate to its real life counterpart. But thats no great surprise.

This short clip of me in the SLS pretty much exemplifies how it drives (and I was being gentle).

Also, here's the video(s) of the 2002 Turbo wipeout I was gonna post when the Jalopnik pack came out.

Well, I decided to pit the Cosworth RS500 and Mercedes 190E against eachother today. The 190E went first and ran 9:00.361 on the Nurburgring, whereas the Cosworth managed 8:55.827. The Cossie has by far the better engine and gearbox, as the 190E doesn't hit the powerband until you need to shift, and then you're bogged down at 30~ horses below peak because 4th & 5th are too far apart. It has superior balance over the Cossie in every way though, and on many corners you come out feeling slow because the rears are nowhere near breaking point but you can't get the thing to turn in any faster. It's also waaaaaay too low for the Nurburgring (or the suspension is too soft, possibly both), as you can hear the body scraping nearly every time the weight shifts and it bottoms out constantly. With even just a small suspension upgrade I reckon it could come out on top.

What times can you guys muster?

Oh man, havent played this in so long. My collarbone is still kinda ****ed so dont wanna use the wheel. Maybe I should just controller it.

Been playing this game for the past few nights now. Trawel through quite a lot of sites to get the right settings for my Fanatec and then adjusted them slightly for myself.

The game feels like a totally different beast with the Fanatec, feels so much better then using a control pad or the MS wheel. The FF you get from this game is incredible and so is the vibration feedback as your tires lock up. Much easier to navigate a track without the racing line to.

I have to say I'm quite in love with Forza 3 at the moment and most likely won't even touch GT5 for quite some time.

One thing that is a shame and that comes with a 54inch 1080p plasma, the game looks visually bland and quite blurry due to it's lower res then my screen, yes it's upscaled to 1080p.
GTR Evolution/Race On look much better on my screen and they are older games with a lower budget then GT5. PC games look AMAZING at 1920x1080.

Anyone up for a few runs of the 'ring in the near future?

I'd love to but my shoulder is still ****ed. Have to wait for the titanium plate before I can use the wheel again. I could probably give it a go with the controller...

Hells yes, just name a time & place. I'd prefer the weekend and I'll most likely play from my living room.

Just got my Fanatec GT2 wheel and I am enjoying this game all over again. I love how if I mistime the clutch I damage my transmission whereas in GT5 it has no consequence you just miss the gear. I haven't had a go at GTR Evoution on the PC yet but I imagine that will just as punishing. Anyway back to my RWD Class A Murcielago that is awesome round La Sarthe.
