I am capped. This should be good.

Wow thats pretty good. Even scrubbing/skipping ahead is fast.

I was steady at 845kbs on a 1.5mbs connection, Wasn't 1080p quality but still very good. Oh and I really like Big Buck bunny :]

Amazing! :D That is some seriously cool tech! It started playing immediately for me (I'm on ADSL2+ for the record), when the likes of a HD Youtube vid will need to buffer for 5-10secs before starting and even then will often need to rebuffer half way through. Color me impressed.

Works in Opera too, although I had to download it with IE first.

Incredible.

I thought it would be some sort of gimmick and that it'd need to buffer for five minutes.

Mine maxed at 845kbps, and too much image smoothing made the whole thing look blurry. Neat, but not impressed.

Get a better connection.

So it seems to gradually adjust the quality on the fly... very nice. Mine capped out at 2Mb, which looked fantastic. Even at the 1Mb mark it looked great, and even down to 300Kb it was blurry but very watchable.

Impressive.

Get a better connection.

Connection is maxed for my area.

I guess the speed at which is buffers, and how its scalable is impressive. But the image quality is still pretty much the same as what exists now.

I was getting up to the max, and believe me it looked phenomenal.

Mine got to 2.75. I live 1 block from the exchange, very very impressive.

Don't mean to nitpick...but what does this have to do with Xbox? I know its microsoft...Or am I missing something?

I've no doubt it would at 4mbps (?), but at 845kbps, the image smoothing was OTT. Any image definition was being compeltely washed out. I understand they're trying to mask compression defects, but you can go too far and give everything a soft focus "vaseline lens" look.

I'm getting 2750kbps and the image looks pretty gewd. Still a few compression artifacting and v-sync issues. Would be great for sites like Youtube, Gametrailers and Gamersyde but I still prefer my movies on a Blu disc.

Mine started straight away, stayed steady on 2040kbps and 25fps and I'm not even on ADSL2

Its coming to Xbox LIVE this Spring, and yes, to Australia!

Still doesn't look anywhere as clear as Blu Ray and sure doesn't sound as good. I guess it will be good for movies I'm a tad iffy about purchasing so I can rent them and see if I like it or not.

I think everyone here with eyes has come to that conclusion and appreciate the technology and the service it enables rather than compare pixels.

Creedy

I'm impressed with the technology, which is why I said it would be great for sites with streaming.

which is why you compared it to bluray?

so dumb

...

are you ****ing serious?

you're comparing blu-ray to an online movie service, IN QUALITY. surely even you realise how ****ing retarded that is?

Creedy
25-06-2009, 12:55 PM
How is it retarded? You can compare a movie on DVD to a movie on free to air TV. Free to air movies look better then DVD.

Guys this is one of those moments where you should just shake your head and go to another thread.

Creedy
25-06-2009, 02:46 PM
How the hell can you not compare?

It's like "I have a choice of watching X movie on DVD with crappier video quality or on free to air TV with compressed 1080i video and adverts".
You compare the two, weigh up the advantages and disadvantages and make your choice.

It's the same with streaming and Blu Ray. You compare the two and decide how you want to watch the film.

HOLY SHIT! How did I miss this in the E3 news? That's rad. Guess we'll finally get to rent movies and buy TV shows and such, with kick ass streaming tech rather than downloads! And i got unmetered Live :D thanks iinet!

Indeed!

Personally I'd rather download trailers so I can view them later, but for those few games that have the "preview" selection, this is awesome. I'd also love to see all the podcasts that you get on the Japanese (and probably American I'm sure) Dashboard.

Frankly I'm not that impressed with blu-ray either, I mean my window is in higher res and it's not even connected to anything other than my wall...

I would love to hear from you guys what the massive difference is between streaming a movie, watching a movie on free to air and watching a movie on a media disc and why you can't compare the various methods of watching a film.

Lex
26-06-2009, 12:20 PM
price differences? delivery differences? you're a ****ing idiot. it's like saying HURFDURF DVD LOOKS BETTER THAN SD YOUTUBE DOES. yes, it's correct, but it's a ****ign stupid comparison.

the only reason you bought it up is because someone else mentioned the 360. you're a petty, and quite stupid child. that's all there is to this.

Creedy
26-06-2009, 12:33 PM
.......
Price differences and delivery differences are exactly some of the reasons why you CAN compare the various methods of watching a film.

hmmmm
I'm sitting at home on a Thursday night being a bit bored.

Option 1:- I can run down to the video shop and hire out Lord of the Rings for $3 or whatever. Watch it for the night and return it in a few days
Option 2:- I can run down to the shops and buy Lord of the Rings on DVD/Blu Ray (depending on personal preferences) for $25/$40 (depending on format) and keep the movie for life.
Option 3: I can jump online and stream Lord of the Rings straight away whilst using up a significant amount of my download cap with my ISP.

Lex

you're serious aren't you?

godDAMN

Creedy
26-06-2009, 01:19 PM
So what? You can't compare them because Microsoft created this amazing technology that will be used for your console of choice and they are your overlords?

Why can't you compare the various methods?

Clockw0rk
26-06-2009, 01:43 PM
Creedy, do you go to McDonalds and say "this place is OK but can't really compare to a steak at an expensive restaurant"? I mean, they're essentially providing the same service, right? While on the surface you can compare them (they both provide 1080p video) they're really not competing.

You've got to remember that this is a tech demo - a proof of concept, a glimpse of things to come. As broadband gets faster and cheaper it will become viable to stream 1080p content and this is a good example of how to do it.

I often wonder if you're just misunderstood and you're not actually trying to troll, but the fact that your first post about it not being as good as blu-ray went unnoticed so you reiterated that point in a much more obvious fashion makes me think you're just being a dick.

Because that's not what this thread is about. If you'd like to discuss streaming vs Blu-ray, please, go make a thread about it.

FTR I'm still annoyed that this tech doesn't work in New Zealand.
SD Youtube still streams slowly FFS.

Ours is apparently 2mbit. I'd say it's slower than that. Never really benchmarked it, might do it for shits and giggles. Not sure what it costs per month cos it just goes into our flat account but the cap is 25gb and then we go down to 256k.

Option 4: - Lay on the sofa and get a little sauced. Decide I want to watch something amusing, lo and behold, its playing a few minutes later. Win.

The only thing missing is a blow job and if the 360 could do that I'd never leave the house.
