The first Uncharted was a huge surprise to me - I really disliked everything I saw and heard about the game before I actually played it, and now it's one of my favourite games of this generation - so I'm definitely looking forward to this one, whenever it comes out!

Agreed. The platforming/adventuring sections of the game were much more enjoyable than the combat (not that the combat was bad at all though). Hopefully the plot sticks to the realistic/historical side of things rather than the 'twist' towards the end of the first game..

I loved the first one ... for a few hours, then it started to bore me. I never did finish it in the end, traded it in and grabbed Bioshock instead (so dirty I traded my 360 CE in).

The constant gun battles get a bit irritating, as I found that I'd just get settled into navigating around a movement puzzle (if that's what they're called), then it'd be straight back into another frikkin' shootout. That said, I love this game and still break it out at least a couple times a week.

Yes. Co-op for the main adventure could be great (see: Gears of 2 with puzzles) and I can easily see a host of various modes working for competitive multiplayer as well. I mean, Uncharted basically is Gears of War with platforming, and so long as they don't emulate Epic's dogshit matchmaking process in Gears 2 I can't see what's holding this back from being a multiplayer powerhouse for the PS3.

Besides, if it sucks, don't play it, it's not like the single player will suffer for it.

Considering first person shooters these days practically live and die on their multiplayer it's understandable that so much in the way of resources was piled towards multiplayer over at Insomniac. That's even before you consider the fact that the original Resistance was the PSN's flagship multiplayer title, thus bringing high expectations to the component in the sequel.

I just don't see this being an issue with Uncharted 2, particularly when you consider that Insomniac were working on a single player campaign, wholly different co-op missions and competitive multiplayer. On top of this Insomniac are a studio that have released four games (including the R&C PSN title) in the span of three years (not to mention the fact that they've got another Ratchet title on the way this year, which I'm sure would have further eaten up some of Insomniac's resources).

I'm not sure what the difference in staff is between Insomniac and Naughty Dog, but I don't think it's a stretch to say that Naughty Dog really don't have as much on their plate as Insomniac have had.

You're exhibiting needless pessimism towards a feature that could very well make Uncharted 2 an absolutely exceptional purchase.

So far, the impressions seem to have been positive. Biggest news is that there will be 2-3 player co-op, and that the co-op campaign is separate from the main adventure. No word on how big the co-op campaign will be, I'm hoping it's at least a few hours long.

What I'm amazed at is the variety of gameplay.
One minute your being chased by a jeep, then your guns a blazing, doing melee combat, climbing around, sneaking around stealth like and then guns ablazing disarming a shield from someone.

It's the way that everything is mixed in together and it flows so well.
Look at the first Uncharted in comparison, it has long sequences of shooting followed by long sequences of 3D platforming.
The sequel seems to mix up the gameplay much better.

For some reason I only just watched the trailer a few minutes ago, and it's inspired me to soon buy Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. I was going to buy it when I first got my PS3 (last year some time), but for some reason I never ended up getting it, but I've seen it at EB for $25 (preowned) so I may as well get it next time I'm there. I remember when Epic showed off GoW2 at E3 and rambled on about their destruction tech implemented into UE3. They then proceeded to show a scene where Marcus and Dom were in a building that was leveled by a Brumak.
Naughty Dog showed a scene with the building getting destroyed all around them and collapsing, Epic's "destructability" looked quite poor in comparison to Naughty Dogs tech.

But personally I'd probably put my money on Uncharted 2 purely because I'm not that much of a first person shooter guy, especially when it comes to playing stuff online.

Ill be buying this on day one. Loved Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. But that game wasnt perfect. So I hope the sequel addresses the 3 aspects of Drakes Fortune that annoyed me.

1 - The predictable enemy spawning. Not another wave....
2 - the silly number of bullets needed to take down an enemy. A one shot kill can happen without head shots you know
3 - the general uselessness of melee attacks.

I also would have liked levels that 'seemed' more open to exploration. And TREASURE that you really had to look for (rather than stuff placed in the far corner). But it's hard to complain when the game is so well paced....

Also all the people posting the thread had PS3 related avatars or sig - so I was trying to show him that it was a bit biased and thought I might get some more impartiality from here as most of the PS3 console owners have both consoles. This is a veiled PS3 vs Xbox 360 argument from him point of view. PS3 exclusive vs multiplatform game.

MW and Uncharted were both great games, judging which sequel is better pre-release is very redundant because you're just picking which style you prefer, the choice for me is between; really highly polished FPS multiplayer or a single-player story with enjoyable characters, a touch of Mal Reynolds and some shooting and treasure hunting.

Personally I think they'll both be excellent, though I'm not sure if MW2 can pull me away from TF2 when the CFC is playing.

Modern Warfare is still one of the most played games on Xbox Live (at least last time I checked), to say that MW2 will have a greater multi-online participation rate over Uncharted 2 is an understatement in the extreme. What I've seen of UC2's multiplayer (granted not a lot) makes me think it's Uncharted without the story - was the gameplay good enough to bring you back after 6 months? Modern Warfare's certainly was for a lot of people.

Ps guys I'm eating crow for my multiplayer scepticism. I tried out the co-op in the beta with a buddy, I loved it, so glad it's not the game main game RE5 style but I can't wait to get online and do some more co-op missions.

It says combat hasn't changed much and how that doesn't matter since the first game had such great combat.

I found combat in the first game terrible especially after a diet of Gears of War.

I do agree with you there, the weapons in GoW do feel much heavier and grunty and the weapons in Uncharted are more light weight. But to me it's the AI that really set the two games apart, I found them more fun and engaging in Uncharted. I always found myself constantly on the move with Uncharted where as in GoW I could kind of sit back in cover without having to move to much.
Both great games of course and I'll have huge wood in my pants when part 3 of both are announced.

Watched the IGN video review (which I dont trust one bit). Still excited but a few things had me worried.

1. Appears that enemies still take way too many bullets before they die.

2. Some of the animation looked a little clumsy and weird to me. Motion capture routines that you can see start (late) and finish (late). Also when he's running his legs dont look like theyre actually propelling him at the correct speed. But I could be imagining things.

I liked all the new stealth takedowns. Some really nice animation.

I've only had one game of multi, but it looks like a lot of fun.

Yeah, I checked the Metacritic score before, it's currently sitting on an impressive 98. More than half of the reviews on there are 10/10 or equivalent, and none are lower than 9/10.

I'll have to grab this and Drake's Fortune when I finally get around to picking up a PS3 Slim, but I dont reckon I'll get one until around X-mas time (hopefully there'll be some tasty bundles), certainly not before I go to Japan in November.

Still, colour me impressed @ those review scores.

I've really enjoyed what I've played of multiplayer, although I had a game of Plunder where a couple of players constantly did things like throwing the statue off the map, or team killing anyone trying to score so that they could extend the game and get more cash. I got to boot one of them for grenading me though, lot of good that did him.

I think you'll be fine playing the second game without having finished the second. The end of Drake's Fortune doesn't really have any sort of cliff hanger or hint at a sequel beyond Sully, Drake and Elena all surviving and riding off into the sunset.

That said, if you've got the time it might be worth finishing Drake's Fortune, it might be harder to go back to after the improvements Among Thieves makes to the formula.

I finally got around to pre-ordering today. I wound up going with the CE from JB-HiFi, the packaging and bonus character skins interest me more than EB's gold multiplier and revenge perk (which just sounds cheesy and can be unlocked near the level cap anyway).

That's cool bro, when you play PC games, textures on consoles look shit no matter what platform your playing on, PS3 and X360. It's why I get 3rd party titles on my PC.

The fact remains U2 is still the best graphical showcase on either console this generation, nothing else beats it in the console realm.

The first ten minutes are quite possible some of the most tortuous moments in gaming. What they do to Nathan Drake goes beyond cruel into some hitherto unknown depth of sadism.

It does look better than Crysis IMO. Crysis might be techinically better, but it has pretty crap art direction and you need a computer with 8 gfx cards in it to run it well. Uncharted 2 however runs amazingly smoothly and the art direction is second to none.

You've just gotta take him out quickly. If you try and jump up so you're hanging from the railing he'll hear you every time, so take him out before he has time to react with a quick jump -> attack combo. The thing that might stuff this approach up is if the dude with the torch has already come out of the adjacent doorway, so make sure you do it before he comes out. ;)
