Yeah, but then, what can they do with it to really innovate without making a completely different game? I didn't see too much in the way of these sorts of complaints about DMC4 or Ninja Gaiden 2.

While I'm not a huge fan of playing the God of War games, I'm extremely excited to see what they can do with the PS3's power in terms of scale and graphics - God of War I and II looked really, really impressive for PS2 games. That trailer didn't show off much in the way of scale, though. Still, looks nice, hope they add some more...excitement to the gameplay.

And no, UC1, I don't want to hear how GoW has a bigger movelist than NG does, I honestly just got bored, OK :p

Almost everyone plays these games the wrong way. I mean people who complain there's not enough different moves from the last version are generally the same people who don't even know 5% of the moves. I'll just say that I'm looking forward to it, and there's really good potential here.

FFS, every day of new Sony announcements is like a massive kick to the balls. :mad:

Aside from that, I'm looking forward to this. But why are the Titans stages? Isn't Kratos trying to fight the Gods?

Also, I really hope the story is decent, because this series of games seems to be following a pattern that I've seen before. First we had a great game that worked as a stand-alone. Then we got another one that took everything good about the first one, pushed it to the nth degree, and ended on one incredible cliffhanger. This is (IMO) the same pattern that was followed by the Matrix, Pirates of the Caribbean, and (to a lesser extent) X-Men trilogies, and if the pattern carries over to God of War, it means the third game will be a giant load of crap that completely undoes the great work of the first two, removes everything that makes the franchise great, and ends the story in the worst and stupidest possible way.

I am hoping with every ounce of my being that this is not the case and the game ends up being as good as the others. I'm going to buy a PS3 just to play it.

After seeing the trailer and reading a bit of the preview, it actually makes a lot of sense. I think the whole game revolves around the Titans climbing Mount Olympus, and as well as stages on Titan's backs, there's also some stages on the mountain itself. I think the whole thing revolves around Kratos helping the Titans to reach the top.

Hey, I never said SotC was a bad game or anything. It's utterly beautiful and I love it. I'm just pointing out that Creedy (and everyone else for that matter) has real reason to be excited over GoW3 having Titans as stages, because the scale is going to be unprecedented.

Sure, SotC came up with the concept first, but here's the thing: the colossi aren't even really stages, they're bosses. In GoW3, the Titans will be STAGES. At least half of the overworld in SotC would constitute one Titan in GoW3, not to mention it will be far more detailed.

Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty much the biggest GoW nut ever, and SotC is quickly becoming one of my fave PS2 games ever. All I was saying in my original post is, don't rubbish GoW3 for ripping SotC's idea, because the way GoW3 is implementing the idea, and the scale they're doing it on, is completely different (in a gameplay sense no less).

I never expected anything new, just a refinement that doesn't change the formula too drastically while still justifying purchase. I suppose it will come out through the secondary weapons, spells, and any adjustments to the grapple function- you know, refinements to the fighting engine.

The monster riding thing is interesting. It seems like a bit of a gimmick for now, but if they build on that basic concept (ie. different monsters have different abilities when you ride them, or maybe there are other environmental interactions- after all, the levels are living creatures now), that may add enough variety to the already strong fighting engine to make it worthwhile.

Even if the fighting engine is identical to before, I'm still buying it for the story. The gameplay needs to be solid and polished, not revolutionary, and the epic story and setting will round out the package.

I just posted that because it was out, but I hardly think that's the full game. I'm not expecting a series re-invention, but I would expect something that pushes the series a little more than GoW II (although II was f---ing amazing.)

To put it in perspective, things we're yet to see...

-How many enemies can be on screen at once, and how Kratos deals with massive crowds

-How vast, moving environments affect overall gameplay

-Any Sixaxis implementation

-Any new combos / special moves

-What the new weapons are, and how they play into the game (seeing as we're apparently meant to use weapons other than the Blades of Athena this time)

I think they've got more than enough opportunity to keep the game at least as fresh as GoW II was. Besides, it's a 3D fighter with a camera that actually isn't shit. How much do you want them to change the formula? What were you even expecting? God of War Racing?

I've only played God of War 2 .. which I got when I bought my PS2, it was good fun. Interested in this for sure, it looks like it'll be a solid remake .. and it will be nice to play through both in HD.

Upgrade the Blades of Chaos/Athena as early as possible to unlock all the combos and attacks and such. The next priority is to upgrade your magic attacks. The secondary weapons aren't really necessary and don't need to be upgraded until last.

(Of course, if you're playing Chains of Olympus (PSP) you MUST upgrade the secondary weapon because it's arguably better than the Blades!)

As far as magic attacks goes- in the first game, upgrade Poseidon's Rage and the lightning bolts first. Medusa Head is not very useful IMO so don't bother upgrading that. When you get the Hades thing, upgrade that because it only has about three levels so you can max it out really quickly.

In GoW2, upgrade the bow so you have a powerful ranged attack. The Chronos ability is quite useful when you upgrade it and it can hit more enemies at a time, so upgrade that as well. Atlas' thing is useful for clearing out enemies, but you don't get that until later so just upgrade whenever you get it. Is the fourth one a Medusa Head again? I can't even remember...

Also, with the two secondary weapons you should probably upgrade the hammer first. It gets some pretty awesome attacks with upgrades, so if you plan to use it often you should definitely upgrade it. The spear is a really weird weapon which I didn't even bother learning properly, so make sure it's the last thing you upgrade (unless you do better than me and actually find a use for it!). But based on my experience, if you upgrade the Blades as early as possible you won't even need the secondary weapons at all.

I just got up to the part in 1 where you get on the city on the titan. So far it's been great, the game still holds up amazingly well. Only problem so far is that the cutscenes seem to have been filmed in engine originally and thus are quite crappy looking when you go from HD remaster to PS2 SD quality. As far as i know it isnt a problem in GoW2 though. They seriously need to remaster Ico and Shadow of the Colossus like this.

I've got Collection and the PS2 versions, but I can't compare. I CAN say that the lower-res textures are quite noticeable and the effects that seemed so impressive on PS2 look dated on GoW Collection, which is a bit disappointing. But like I said, it doesn't take away from the game at all.

In the same boat as Natrak, bought the game from a US retailer via ebay (its the US version). Game came yesterday (sealed), no GoW iii demo code. Have emailed Sony, buit if anyone is interested in a trade for the demo (PSN dlc and games can be activated on 5 different ps3 consoles), i have a few things on my US psn account that may entice someone to hook us up with the demo.

I haven't heard anything back from Sony and it's been more than two days, so it would seem I don't have much hope of getting a God of War 3 demo code, ah well.

As it stands I'm extremely happy with my purchase. I never got around to picking up either game for the PS2 (although I did play the demo of the original) and playing through God of War 1 I'm really enjoying myself (just reached Hades). The games still hold up extremely well and I think they've done a great job 'remastering' the game, the only downside is that the improvements are so good (albeit still limited to the orignal PS2 visuals) that whenever the game switches to an in-engine FMV the difference in quality is quite jarring (jaggies everywhere!).

Be sure to replay GOW 1+2 on the harder difficulties after completing them, it's great fun, and suprisingly easy with the frequent checkpoints (I wish Devil MAy Cry was a bit easier, I've given up on that series after endless frustration, and I HATE the shit puzzles)

Just finished playing God of War Collection in anticipation of this, was an absolute blast. Playing the game with full AA at 60fps is an absolute treat, and I was particularly impressed that they included two trophy sets (one for each game.) All for $30. Definitely something I want to see more of in the future. Team Ico, I'm looking at you.

I noticed a couple of changes. When you block and press Circle, you grapple an enemy (grappling hook style). In all the other games, that button combo resulted in some absolutely useless attack that I never ever used, but now that they've made it something useful AND different (for the series anyway) it could make a big difference. The battering ram attack also seems pretty useful.

Also, it appears that this will be only the second GOW game with a secondary weapon that's equal to or better than the Blades of Chaos/Athena. :p

Bought the God of War Collection a few weeks ago and finished God of War last night.

I will start God of War 2 tonight and hopefully have time to finish it before the third in the series. Having never played them before, I was pretty impressed.

Although, I do have to say those ****ing Cerberus Dogs that kept respawning and spitting out more puppies, really pissed me the **** off.

Yeah, that was the most annoying bit in any God Of War game IMO. There's nothing as bad as that in the second game.

The collection comes on one blu-ray and is also only $39 US to purchase from Play-Asia.

EDIT 2: I only started playing the second one last night and if the first twenty mins is anything to go by. It is definitely ****ing worth it.

You MUST play God of War 2 before playing 3. It ends on a massive cliffhanger which sets up the third game. And besides, it's like the first game turned up to 11, so if you liked the first one then you'll love the second one.

I was seriously looking at EB's page for it this morning about 15 minutes before the last 42 units were to go on sale and I was really tempted...before regaining some sanity and deciding it was waaaaaay too expensive.

I gave it a quick run this morning, and it looks impressive... but I think FFXIII has stolen the 'WOW' factor from what I thought this would be. Still looks fantastic though.

Not a bad thing at all since the originals were awesome, and most of you who haven't played GoW since the PS2 days would appreciate this, but for someone like me who is new to the series and has just finished GoW and planned to move onto GoW II before hitting III, I kinda feel like i'm all slayed out. So i'll wait for this to hit bargain bin when my chain sword reserves have built up again.

Read on Kotaku that EB had gotten another 42 copies of the Pandora Box-thingo edition-y thing. Probably gone already now.

Just on a side note, my local EB keeps sending cutomers GAME's way when they tell customers they're out of the 'big-ol box of nasty' edition, completely ignoring the fact that it's an EB exclusive. Dumba$$es.

I just played it and you pretty much have it right. I don't think I've seen a more epic opening to... just about anything!

I've got to say, I don't think I've seen a game with smoother transition between story scenes and in-game.

Finally got around to playing god of war, after never getting into it back in the day. Got the double pack for ps3 and just finished GoW1. Loved it! The story is so much better than I assumed it to be. Started off GoW2 as well.

I'll be picking up GoW3 but it might have to wait a week so I can conquer number 2 first though, which sucks cause 3 looks insanely awesome.

Just got to see Hephaestus (voiced by Rip Torn!), he looks amazing.

The finished game really looks leaps and bounds better than the demo. That opening was jsut awesome.

So i got the special edition.. Traded in Heavy Rain and Arse Creed 2 and didn't have to pay a cent. Tell me, what are the extra skins? Can they be used in game or are they just for that battle arena thing?
