I was waiting for someone to make a topic on this rather than trying to discuss it via the 'game speculation' thread but nothing was happening.

So, this game is out now, available on the UK's PSN in episode format (the game is available in three-episode lumps for GBP 6.99 or as a single 12-episode game for GBP 19.99). Its 9.8gb for the full version and you can't buy it on local UK/USA/AU shelves so you'd have to buy the asian version (http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-3ylm-71-bp-49-en-84-j-70-2q0u.html). Bloody stupid really, It'd take up my whole month's worth of downloading if I did that. No word yet on a local PSN Store release as far as I know. The first episode is actually pretty short but the ones after that are around twice as long, depends how you play it really too

The good part about this PS3 game is that its a remake of the first one, one I never touched though thanks to Lobster's disappointing opinions. The company's gone back to its roots, switched some characters to an american tv camera crew, toned down the difficulty, remade the graphics and improved the clunky controls (though they're still a little clunky but a vast improvement)

The game's a combination of japanese & english audio, japanese with subtitles for the npc's and english of course for the americans. If you were thinking about getting Silent Hill Homecoming don't, get this instead. Incidentally here's a comic made by me (http://users.tpg.com.au/surashi//evolution526.jpg) outlining the problems with the new SH sequel

I'm tempted to get this but the whole 'no weapons - just run & hide' gameplay will certainly scare the shit out of me more than SH2/3 since at least then you could pick the monsters off from a distance and there were rooms where you could take a breather

Eurogamer review (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=200588)

You'll love:
- Frying pans, axes and shotguns
- PS3's scariest game yet

You'll hate:
- Not a massive leap from the original
- Defiantly slow-paced

I'm tempted to get this. I downloaded the demo off the Japanese marketplace a few weeks back, and it was genuinely scary. Might have to import the Blu-ray version as well, seeing as 10GB is a quarter of our monthly cap (between three people). That, and I don't want the game taking up 10GB of my HDD.

Looks like my PS3 is going to be getting a workout this year. Between this, Afrika and Aquanaut's Holiday (buying both in Japan in September), LittleBigPlanet, Motorstorm 2, Pixeljunk Eden, and Ratchet: Quest For Booty, I'm going to be having quite a bit of fun.

Yeah 10gb is a fair whack on the current PS3's and having to redownload everything (if you ever had to) would be a bitch. I'm looking at getting a 250gb HDD somewhere down the track, most certainly when I've run out of space :p Has anyone bought a WD Scorpion Blue? I've seen a 320gb model for $118 which is 8 times bigger than the one I have currently - bloody awesome price too

I'm wondering if I should download the demo or just buy the game for $45 (from PA after discount). Demos can vary between the finish product so it may seem like a waste of quota. Where's Lobster? He should be saying something by now

I downloaded the demo off the US store the other week and it scared the crap out of me. I was also playing it in the dark for more atmosphere.

Wait for the reviews. I've own Siren 2 and it's quite good. It's no Project Zero/Fatal Frame but the Siren series worth a look if you're into the genre. Waiting for reviews before committing.

I was put off the original because of terrible reviews all round in regards to the gameplay and weird repeating chapters (:/), but this doesn't look to bad.

The company's gone back to its roots
Did these guys make games before the Forbidden Siren games or are you talking about going back to the first FS? 'Cause if they're just going back to remake the same mistakes then I'll definitely give this one a miss.

If you read the Eurogamer review (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=200588) or the N4G review (http://www.n4g.com/News-175703.aspx) it states that its an americanised remake of the original Siren (or Forbidden Siren if you wish). They have chosen for their own reasons to replace several key characters with Americans and record much of the dialogue in English

Reviews (count 2 of them thus far) have been very postive, both giving it 8/10. Its obvious the developers fixed the stuff that plagued the original which was almost unplayable and fixed the AI to make it less harsh

Hey! Reading reviews does help make it easier to discern whether a game will be crap or not! I should read more in the future.

I'll definitely give this a look now, but I'm gonna wait until it gets released physically (I'm very, very sure I saw it on the PS3 new release list at work last time I looked at it). Screw wasting such a large amount of space on one game.

Does anyone have any idea if the case/cover of the Asian copy off Play-Asia is in Chinese or english, especially the back?

Looks like its chinese but the operation sheet is in english. I'm assuming the manual would be english too. Personally I wouldn't care

I just finished this the other night on the default difficulty and it's definitely one of the highlights of my ps3 library. I heard a lot of stuff about the ps2 sirens being too difficult but this one is very easy imo, sometimes it takes a bit to work out how to finish the stage but the map is very useful 80% of the time and once you know what you're doing there's no real trouble getting there.

I loved the fact the characters move fast but hit slow (or not at all) because it maintains the tension while providing a less crappy gameplay experience then this kind of game usually delivers.

I think it's crazy to use up 9GB downloading this though, better to get that asian version in full english or wait for the pal BD release. 40 bucks for a game of this quality is a steal.

Is there going to be a PAL BD release?

Is it under a different name because I can't find it here (http://palgn.com.au/article.php?m=AustralianReleases&sid=c486c17608f43f69727bcf7475b64260). Not that it matters to me since its always going to be cheaper via import

Unless there's another game with the words "Siren", "Blood" and "Curse" in its title coming out in the next couple of months then I think I should be safe. :P

I can't remember exactly, but I'm fairly sure it's still under the ambiguous "$199".

Oh, and I noticed the abundance of ":P" in my posts too. I was just as creeped out. :P

DrSeti should play Luigi's Mansion before he starts playing the Siren/Fatal Frame series.

I did consider purchasing it at one stage but now I'm playing 2 games and possibly PoP next month. Don't really have the income atm either despite it being $49.95

Personally for me, it's the best horror game of this gen. It really takes the "survival" aspect of the horror genre to a new level. Some of the later it's gets so damn tense, especially the character you're playing as is completely unarmed and can't defend him/herself for shit.

Nic Xtreme

This is on my wishlist - for RRP$49.95, how could I say no? Dunno when I'll end up actually getting it, though.

I told you all! HA!

Also, yes I'm buying it. I was rifling through our copies yesterday and was quite surprised to see we received more than one (my pre-order). I thought this strange mostly because when I checked around Aus for a physical copy of that PSN Ratchet game I could only find one.

The Blu-ray version of Quest For Booty is a JB Hifi exclusive. I picked up a copy last week for around $27. Not really worth a purchase unless you're a huge Ratchet fan (like me!).

It's not too bad, and has some neat ideas (being a defenseless 8yr old is pretty damn creepy), but not a must have either. I think I saw it for $44 brand new in JB the other day.

I bought this today after checking some reviews, the cheap price and the fact that I love survival horror games.

Haven't played any others in this series, but this is supposed to be a re-telling of the first game or something right?

Should I prepare a few spare changes of underpants? :p

Essentially a remake of the first game but with new characters and some changes

And yes, you should get some spare underpants. About 10 for one night should suffice :p I was nearly going to buy this yesterday after the apparent $25 at HN but their copies still had $49.95 (no sale signs either) and I couldn't be bothered checking

Started this today, ***** this game has some disturbing shit, which is what you usually get from Japanese horror.

Great stuff, enjoying it so far :)
