I haven't seen it anywhere myself, and most websites simply list its release date as "TBA 2010". =/

I've seen it on shelves at my local JB and Gametraders. I think Gametraders had it for $79.95 (the special edition by the looks of it).

Yeah, prices on the site and in store often differ, at least it looks like the prices on the online store will give you a general idea of what'll be cheap in-stores right now. Particularly the stuff that's listed as 'currently out of stock online'.

Still not seeing it on shelves.

I asked at GAME today when buying some stuff; he couldn't find a record of it in their system. He searched both 'SBK' and 'Superbike'.

WTF?!?! :(

A happy conclusion has finally been reach, but not without some heartache.

After work I went to a different shopping centre, and whilst in EB I asked them if they knew when it was coming out. It wasn't listed under 'New Releases' but when he did a custom search it came up as 'Discontinued'

WTF?

So he rang another store, and they both found it weird (I was telling them that it's supposed to come out this month). The conclusion they reached was that either they weren't getting any stock, or their only getting a short supply and its currently in transit.

Disheartened, and contemplating ordering it from the UK I went home.

Being Thursday late night shopping I went back out, just to JB HiFi to see if they had any new K-1/DREAM DVDs (they didn't :(). Taking a turn through the XBOX360 games, I spied it sitting on the shelf. Steelbook edition too. Only $89.

SUCCESS!

So with some other items I headed to the counter. But my joy turned to dismay as the young lady couldn't find the contents in the drawer (for somes reason, unlike other special editions, they gutted these ones :/). So she had to call for assistance and get some dude to look round in the stock room.

:(

However after an anxious 10 minute wait (in which I watched a disgruntled customer berate one of the other poor counter girls because his iTunes card was defective and she couldn't refund it; he'd have to deal with Apple), he finally emerged with the game I had been searching for.

The end. :D

Seconded.

I work at GAME and I wouldn't buy a game guarantee on my on stuff, but it's a KPI so I have to ask or I lose my job. Besides for some people the scratch warranty is essential, with kids and whatnot replacing a scratched game is a godsend. I can't tell you the amount of times someone has come in demanding I replace a game they bought just over a week ago because they scratched it, and since they didn't get the warranty when I asked I have to turn them away.

Jickle
27-06-2010, 08:10 PM
When I grabbed RDR from GAME they gave me a free game guarantee and told me the best price matching price they'd heard (which was actually slightly better than the one I quoted them if I recall). It's not something I'm ever going to need, but it's not an entirely terrible idea (if you're buying a game unlikely to drop under $10 or so, at least).

I would think (given the timings) that they were desperate to boost their stats, coffers whatever for the '09-'10 financial year. VERY DESPERATE given the pricing.

Now the new period is started there's less reason or reward to go as hard. If you can forget the prices before though, there's still many good (and presumably, loss-making) deals at Game so I guess they are out of the jungle but still in the woods.

I'm ****ing sick of GameTraders saying one thing over the phone and then playing dumb when you get to the store. I called up today to get a trade-in price for a Game Boy, Metroid 2, Magnifier/Light, GB Camera and GB Printer and they said they'd give me $15-20 for it. But when I got to the store they only said $9, and the guy at the counter sounded like he wasn't even going to take the camera or printer.

There was another one a couple of years ago where I went to trade in some Guitar Hero controllers. The guy said $100 over the phone, but when I got there the price had dropped to $50! And it was the same guy!

What makes it even more annoying is that they're the only ones who provide this service, so they can just do whatever they want and then say 'WELL IF YOU DON'T LIKE OUR PRICE GO TRADE IT IN SOMEWHERE ELSE OLOL'. I think next time I'll record the phone call, play it back to them, and threaten to call the ACCC if they try to go any lower. ****ing liars.

Some of our quieter stores only have one person working some days, mostly on a Tuesday. Are those people not entitled to have a lunch break?

Also for the record stocktake only happens two days a year and the company is in no way "not doing well at all".

Macquarie , Sydney City Plaza and Chatswood GAME stores are closing soon . It's important to know if you are pre-ordering anything...they will probably transfer your order to another store .

When you have a JB, EB and some other discount retailer (eg Big W, Target, etc), it's tough to compete against them.

Thank god, the Sydney City Plaza store is a joke, good riddance. The guys there are clueless, when I traded in my spare copy of SMG2 for DQ9, they didn't even know what Mario Galaxy 2 was and asked me if I meant Bio Galaxy 2? No you retard. Then the other guy searched the 360 section for DQ9. Then they tried to charge me an extra $20 because they scanned SMG2 instead or something. The whole thing took 10 minutes and I was the only person in the store.

I have no trade fodder at the moment.

I glanced at the poster and thought for one second that the blurb next to NFS said 'in store now', woke me up real quick lol. November it is. I've traded most of my stuff already with EB's 50% bonus trade in towards pre orders. What I didnt know about that til recently was that you cant price match at all using that offer. Did the sums and made a good profit on most of the games I traded except for two and doing the sums I'll end up paying less then full price anyway. Nice try EB didnt work.........

Cutting back on stores AFAIK.

Seriously, how can you compete against EB, JB and major retailers such as Big W, Target, etc in the same shopping centre? And that's not counting the online retailers as well.

HiredMan

True. The shopping centre near work has a JB, EB, Big W, DS Powerhouse and Hardly Normal. I'd say "poor GAME" but their choice to price everything as high as they can (ala EB) means they get no sympathy from me.

Or GAME selling Backbreaker for $100 when everyone else has it for $30-40.

That said we still have 3 game stores all with 20 minutes drive of each other competing with EBs, JBs, DSE, Target, Big W and Kmart.

I'm guessing that one was traded in just a week after the game came out. EB tend to mark their pre-owned games at $5 less that what it costs to buy them new, they just don't bother changing it after the new one comes down. If the new version is selling for less than that in store, though, you can take it up to them, say the new one is cheaper and they'll mark the PO one down so it's $5 cheaper than the new one.

My local GAME is always deserted when I go in there, hope its not one of the stores closing down because they do provide some competition for the EB thats in the same complex but then again there's also Big W and DSE so there's plenty of competition from them too.

Gotta love EB it pisses me off and makes me smile. I preordered F1 2010 at EB and traded in some old games using the 50% trade bonus-still had $20 to pay off, thought to myself I'll do it on release day, asked the chick behind the counter if I could still pricematch on release and she's like 'No, not using the 50% bonus trade offer' :(. So I rock up yesterday to pick up my game and I thought I'll give this pricematch another go. So I'm about to ask and the guy (different person) asks me do you want to pricematch? :D:D:D:D Pricematched with Big W got it for $88. If it wasnt for people like him I'd stop going to EB altogether.

Impression I get is that EB's computer system is completly inadequate to their upper management policies. Eg, UM says "+50% trade value but no price match" and the staff says "UM, how do we tell who has the bonus trade value? the computer system doesn't-" and UM says "End of Line".

I didn't even know about the -no-price-match thing until I'd come home with three copies of Reach. (extras for rural friends + housemate)

How did this pan out, by the way? Did they just slip in Zombrex by accident or is it a bit more serious? I'm pretty certain there's still an Outbreak 360 in Townsville if you wanted me to pick it up for you.

Well, I called on Thursday afternoon and asked what the deal was and all they said was that there was nothing they could do. They didn't know why I didn't have the outbreak ed. There was one other person who ordered it, and if that customer didn't pick it up, they would sell it to me. I bluntly told them not to worry about it, I would be taking my purchase elsewhere.

It has happened to me before at that EB so i guess it serves me right for using them again.

I sent an e-mail of informing HQ that I was not happy about that store. Awaiting reply.

Thanks for the offer of outbreak up your end, but I purchased at local JB.

Me: Mate, I'm after the 32" model. That's an extra $250 for the 37".

This is what's wrong with retail. The salesmen are selling it just to make money, and forget the fact IT'S GOING TO LOOK AFTER YOUR _____. People who say, "I'll give you this item for that price if you take warranty" are just terrible. It should be sold on the merit, not on the fact it has margin in it.

I'm sure everyone here would want their product to last a long time, I just think they get turned off on how some sales people approach them about it.

And customers? We are just doing our jobs telling you what you should need. Everyone always gets angry when we tell them what accessories would help (extra cables, ext warranty etc), but we only say it from experience. A lot of customers are the first to say no to everything then the first to come in bitching about it.

Agree with all of that. But some sales people push/sell the extended warranty the wrong way. The same goes with add ons (cables, surge protectors, etc). They just go about it the wrong way. And yes extended warranties should be sold on merit.

JB service monkeys are notorious for "I'll give you this item for that price if you take warranty" tactic.

On a recent trip from LA last month, I was at Gamestop and had the case of Okamiden (DS) in my hands and was looking at the back cover of MvC3 Xbox 360 games section and one of the Gamestop staff approaches me to see "if I need assistance".

Gamestop: Can I help you with anything?
Me: I'm just looking around, see what's out. (that should have been enough to get rid of him, but still...:( )
GS: Are you British?
Me: I'm from Australia
GS: Cool. Did you move here recently?
Me: I'm on holiday, I mean vacation
GS: What's Australia like?
Me: Now it's winter there, so it's cold
GS: Winter in June? Wow.
Me: Well, Winter there, is your summer here and vice versa
GS: So it's summer there in Christmas?
Me: Yes.
GS: Awesome.
Me: You get used to it ( *sigh* )
GS: You own an Xbox 360?
Me: Yeah, I'm just looking at what's out
GS: You like fighting games? That's a good one *points at MvC3 in my hand*
Me: It's region free so I can take it back home and play it on my Xbox, but it's still expensive at $60. I've seen it online for around $40 Australian including shipping.
GS: Really? What site is this?
Me: Zavvi.com
GS: I'll have to check it out.
Me: You should
GS: Is that all you're buying today *points at Okamiden*
Me: Yeah
GS: Let me ring it up at the register for you
Me: No worries

And back to local HN madness, as I recently bought a heavily discounted laptop (run out model and I don't think I could negotiate lower price and couldn't be bothered) for my brother (which he will pay me back later when he gets his tax refund).

After getting the attention of one of the service monkeys...
Me: Do you have any more of this model in stock *pointing to a laptop*
Harvey Norman: Let me check, I'll be right back *goes off to a computer and comes back*
HN: Yes we have it in stock
Me: I'll take one
HN: I'll go get one for you *goes to the stock room and gets one*
HN: We have a special on now. Would you be interested in doubling the RAM for $199?
Me: No thanks
HN: It only has 2G RAM though (didn't get the hint at no thanks, so I let him have it)
Me: Well, a stick of 2G DDR3 ram is around $30, add $20 for your labour, that's $50. So you're making 300% pure profit.
*No response from the service monkey*
Me: I'm not interested in any protection pack or extended warranty either (wasn't told by my brother to get it, so no go there)
HN: No worries. Just take it to the cash register and pay there.
Me: Thanks

I've noticed that. The PEGI-12, 15 or whatever has an MA-15 sticker over it. They pluck a dozen copies off of Ebay for $10 each and then sell it off for twice or triple the price.

Granted that's mostly seen with PS2 games. Gametraders is the worst with that, selling Shadows of the Collosus or Ico for over $100 after snatching a cheap Euro remanufactured copy for $20 off of Ebay.

If anyone actually still goes to GAME, they've changed their reward card scheme. I went to have a look at some of the sale games and wanted to know how many points I had. They changed me over to the new reward scheme.

This is what I think the rules were/are:

Old rules:
- every $1 spent earns you 10 points
- earn 5000 points and you get a $27.50 voucher (which you had to use within a certain time frame)

New rules:
- rather than get a voucher, you can use points instantly as a store credit discount for your purchases
- every $1 spent earns you 10 points
- for every 1000 points you earn, you get $2 store credit discount to use :/

An even better reason to avoid GAME and import.

Got the pamphlet at lunch about the new reward scheme.

Couldn't find anything about points for trade ins.

But it does say, earn 1000 GAMEON points (which means spend $100) and you get $2 store credit discount.

It just got worse. Import away!
