The price is lower than I thought it'd be - a good special would see that at about $450. This is EBGames.com.au btw

I'd be interested in trading my PS3 in for the smaller one. I only use it for playing games and the occasional Blu-Ray movie, so I'm not that worried about the stuff they've cut out, especially if I get a bigger HDD out of it. Hope it's a decent deal.
Edit: This may be a stupid question, but the slim PS3 comes with a dual shock 3 controller, doesn't it?

PS3 Slim - $99 when you trade Xbox Elite + 6 360 Games (website exclusion list applies)

I always found it interesting that it's alway the managers that get the rewards in EB when it came to sales targets. I don't remember getting anything like that when I was at EB (even if I was only there for 4 months). In fact, they actually took away the abilty to price match THEN get staff discount, which quite often meant that it was cheaper to price match. I actually stopped buying from EB then (while I was working there) and started buying from places like JB and GAME.

During my lunch break I had a quick wander into a GAME store.
Lots of big red signs saying "1/2 price game sale" and in fine print "*conditions apply" (can't remember specifically).
I ask the service monkey, "What conditions apply?"
"Only games with a 1/2 price sticker, other games have discounts like $10, $20, etc off", replies the service monkey
The games that had the 1/2 price sticker weren't even worth buying. All the decent titles had the $10 off stickers.

So I went to GAME at Knox today and they wouldn't price match Batman at the price Big W had it because it's in a different shopping centre. So I bought it from EB instead and will probably return it tomorrow to get Targets price at GAME because I need the points to get Guitar Hero 5 cheap as well. Grabbed it just for tonight so I have something to do!
But what a ****ing whore. I would've bought GHero 5 there today as well and she could have just cost her business $170 (but as I said earlier, need the damn points).
Whatever happened to making the customer happy?

So I'm trying to figure out cheaper ways of aquiring the new CoD game when it comes out and just had a question regarding to GAME.
They have a deal currently which is trade a selected game in and get CoD for $60 (so I'm assuming the RRP at GAME is $120). If I do that now can I pricematch to $100 later and get the game for $40?

Where I live there is an EB and a game right next to a Jb hi fi and I have played them all against each other now that the guys at Game dont bother checking or asking if they have it in stock as I have walked next door and grabbed a game and then showed them the reciept so many times in the past that they just accept my business and I get the points so we all win. Its taken 2 years but all the hassle of price matching has gone.

I think when GAME had a deal where you could trade three games in for a pre-order the normal edition of Gears 2. On launch day, Gears 2 LE dropped to $100 and everyone who had a pre-ordered the normal edition were able to get the LE version.
The rules might have changed so ask to be sure.

Some questions about trading in games, related to GAME
1) Do you have to preorder in order to use their trade in deals?
2) Can you trade in games for a different console than the game you are trading in for?
I ask because I've never bothered to trade in games before, but I'm looking to not spend too much on games this Christmas period.
I have a copy of Fallout 3 for the 360 gathering dust because I hate it, and GAME have it on their eligible titles list to get Uncharted 2 (obviously on PS3) for $40
tldr: Can I trade Fallout 3 on 360 to get Uncharted 2 on PS3 for $40 at GAME without a preorder?

I'm sure you can. The only format that's not included is the DS, where you can only trade it against another DS game. It doesn't say anything about not being able to do it with the other formats.
As for the $40 offer with Uncharted 2; if you look at where it's advertised on the website, it says pre-order....so you'd probably have to trade it in now. I did the same thing with Fifa 10, where I traded in CoD: WaW for a pre-order deal. When Fifa 10 was released the eligible titles list was updated and WaW was removed, so your best bet is to get rid of Fallout while you can.

2) Can you trade in games for a different console than the game you are trading in for?
1) Nah the trade deals usually last for a week or two afterwards, however I have found out that you cannot price match after trading in if the game is already out. The receipts they give out do not indicate you traded in a game if you pay off the balance before the game comes out (not sure if you have to pay it off though) so they refund you the extra money you paid.
I traded in a game for FIFA 10 and paid the extra $40 by trading in some other games. Then when the game came out I price matched Target and the guy refunded me $24.
My mate went in the day after FIFA 10 came out and traded in a game. However they wouldn't let him pricematch.
I definitely recommend pre-ordering.
2) They can be difference console :). Just as long as it's not a DS game (duh! :p).

No problem. I hope my experience wasn't a one off o_O.
i went to my local Game store for the first time since it opened a few weeks ago to try and find a copy of Halo odst because Big W, Kmart and EB had all sold out. So i walk into game and ask the guy if they have it and he shows me to where it is and they had about 30 copys marked at $99.95, i asked him what the best price he was able to do it for because Big W have it in there catalog for 68. He told me that 99.95 was there best price and i walked out. Lucky for me i went to the other EB store in town and they price matched for me. Not going to be buying from game if i can help it

Can't believe they didn't price match. The one at Knox City in Melbourne doesn't price match Big W because it's not in the shopping centre (though I can think of a million shops it could replace!) however they will match any other store as long as you have a catalogue and the catalogue has actually started.
The only reason why I buy from GAME over EB or JB is because of the coupons you get for getting 5000 points. $500 is a lot of money to get $27.50 back but it adds up when you trade in a lot (as trade ins towards games also go towards your points).

Or they're actually following price matching procedures and know that the other retails around the area are sold out. If people really want it and can't get it from somewhere nearby, they'll quite probably pay the $30 extra. Don't underestimate the power of impulse shopping, even on video games.

Well, "We'll match any price! So long as it's not below-cost!" would be sufficient.
I work in a bottleshop and I find it amazing how many ppl think they're being ripped-off by prices when the retailer still doesn't make a huge amount per unit. eg. We're a small store (not a great comparison to GAME, I know), we sell slabs of beer (basics like VB, Draught etc.) for $46. I have ppl come in and find out the price, then say "I'll do it for $40 for cash". I then stand there and explain to them that it costs us $42 per slab through Capital Liquor, and they shrug and say "So?".
That said, I'm starting with GAME soon, and unless there's some MAJOR issue with it, I'll do like I do in the bottleshop and explain to them that if they can find it cheaper, to go do-so, as doing prices for any less is not possible, plain and simple.

You would think a shop as big as GAME would be able to pricematch its competitors most of the time. The thing that really annoys me is that they won't pricematch their own bloody website!
JB Hifi has updated their exclusions list. FIFA 09 has been added along with a few other games. Interestingly, FIFA Street 3 and Too Human are both not on it. None of my trade bait got added either :) awesome!

Really $46? I wouldnt pay more than $36-40 for a VB/draught slab and can regularly find them for $32 in Canberra. Seems strange that your company pays $42 for a slab and shops in Canberra can pretty much sell stuff well below that cost price.

I'm a bit the same. I've never understood the concept of letting other stores dictate what you should be selling products for, but it's a business model that works. Plus, in EB's case, they sell everything at RRP so the people that don't price match (or go to cheaper places like JB) end up paying top dollar anyway.

You can always price match games at GAME that you would have purchased elsewhere to help accumulate points. Also as I said, if you trade a game in as part of their trade in deals (where you get $60-70 credit for a game) that also adds to part of your points total.
Unfortunately for me, I have paid off everything that I'm buying for the rest of the year and have no use for my voucher for quite a while! :P

As opposed to the 10% that EB gives you on pre owned games only? Or a $15% one time only web mail voucher? If you're getting $27.50 every time you spend $500, it's just below 14% on everything. Better than EB.

I have no idea how it works, but I'm guessing the publisher sets the RRP, EB just take that on board as their sale price (SP), then places like JB reduce it to a more reasonable sale price.
Then they divide the SP by 17 to get their trade in price, then the second hand price is SP minus $5
So
Profit = (SP - WholesalePrice) - (SP/17) + TT(SP-5)
Where TT is the number of times it has been traded
I stopped knowing what I was typing about ages ago, I am very tired

Looks like the price changes for the upcoming xmas sale have already been uploaded to the EB games website.
Just like previous years, look at the cents column to see the sort of discount that will be applied.
91 cents = $10 off
92 cents = $20 off
93 cents = $30 off
94 cents = 50% off

But when you're trading at EB, are you going for store credit or cash in-hand? From what I've heard, EB gives 20% less value if you're after cash (unless the info I'm getting is completely wrong). I do remember someone coming into GAME and wanting to trade their PS3 phat, which was going to get them a few hundred dollars, but they wanted cash and we only do store credit. They refused, went across to EB and traded it for cash........got $150 for it, with maybe a half-dozen games.
The system seems to work this way: newer games have a reasonable trade value for the first few months, then decrease pretty rapidly after that (unless they're being traded en-masse, which makes their value decrease faster). Once you get somewhere near the year-after-release mark, expect the game you're trading to hit a $10 (or so) trade value, then drop to $5, $3 and eventually $2. FACT: The original Modern Warfare is only going to net you $10 - $15 trade value, yet second hand it still sells for at least $50 - $60 (if not more).
It's hardly a fair system, but it's one where you have to basically bite the bullet and deal with it, or don't utilise it at all.

I don't know about the rest of the country, but EB Games in WA can't give out cash because they don't have a second hand dealer's licence anymore. The laws changed 18 months ago (don't need to keep the stock on hold for 2 weeks before you can sell it, don't need to see any ID, although EB still ask for a driver's licence anyway) so that they can do 'easy' trades. The flip side is they can only trade for store credit. I'm pretty sure EB in Perth only did store credit even when they had the second hand dealer's licence anyway.

It's a pretty unfair system all-round. I think the most reasonable way for people to trade, with GAME at least, is to utilise the 'trade 1' deals, because at least that way you're getting better value for your trade. For example, I traded a game (can't remember which) to go towards Heavy Rain. As a straight trade it would've gotten $58, but as part of the trade 1 deal, it ended up with a $70 trade value.

I think it's ridiculous when GAME shut for a day to do stocktake out of the blue. A few times now I've gone to GAME (usually on a Tuesday) and they have been closed. There are usually no customers there anyway when they are open. Also , a couple of times they have been closed with a "back in 30 minutes " sign on the door and the manager wanders back in having done some shopping . They are not doing well at all and it wouldn't surprise me if they started closing stores within the next year if things don't improve markedly. They opened a lot of stores in a short space of time and have been advertising heavily on Channel 1 HD , but they can't compete with the aggressive pricing of JB /KMart/Target/Big W etc.

EB had a meeting late last year about tightening their price matching policies eg they would match say Big W but only if you bought the game without using trade credit (as Big W doesn't give trade credit for games). However , most EBs don't seem to enforce the new rules. They also supposedly stopped matching hardware deals , but some EBs happily do so (it depends on the store manager).

I'm really not sure that now is the time to be expanding your bricks-and-mortar retail business. I used to be right against games without packaging but have found Xbox's content services consumer friendly enough to become a convert. The ONLY thing preventing me from buying full games is that, absurdly, it's vastly cheaper and more versatile to buy full games from shops. I saw Fallout 3 at Game for $35, not to mention the plethora of wortwhile stuff that's $25 or less (mainly new!) at retailers right now. Games On Demand currently only spells the end of retail for the laziest and wealthiest of gamers.

Just call your local store, or email them and ask. I'd give you an idea, but I can't remember the last time I looked up the trade value of a PS3 of any sort. I'd say both Game and EB's values would be roughly the same, but if you buzz EB first then quote that price to your local Game, they may throw some extra $'s on it.

The entire chain will suffer due to the instability of one store's opening hours? O_o
Hopefully not too many of the less profitable stores close down.
Jb hifi has a deal going where you can choose from a selection of wii games and pick up 3 for $30. Thasts $10 each.
Items of intrest amongst the crap were
Welcome to the violence box (Madworld, conduit and HOTD:Overkill)
Overlord
TMNT Smash Up
Spyborgs
The Munchables
Drawn To Life
Cursed Mountain
Rabbids Go Home
Great games for $10 each especially the box set and cursed mountain.

I noticed my local Gametraders closed down. Sort of doesn't surprise me as there was alot of competition.
Also the local independent games store has been closed for renovations for almost 9 months. I looked through the window and the shelving was still there but there was a big pile of mail on the floor. One of the letters was addressed to the EB games.

Any decent?
We haven't got the full lists yet, only the real cheap stuff. I grabbed Loco Roco 2 for $2, Lumines 2 for $2, Mirrors Edge 360 for $2, Afro Samurai PS3 for $8, Project Gotham Racing 4 for $8 and a HDMI cable for $4. All of that was pre-owned except the HDMI cable, but their mint counterparts aren't much more expensive. There's a shitload more to be added to the sale over the next few days so expect some decent titles.
Ok a few questions. Does game accept Gamecube titles for trade ins and if so will they even still take peoples games with their crash coming? I ask because i have like 30 games that I want to trade towards a PS3 but im not sure if theyll take them.

Just because they're selling them doesn't mean the trade them in. I'm pretty sure EBs in WA no longer take GCN games in any store, but they've still got old stock to sell off.

Just went back to game and grabbed an Elite/forza/halo pack for $249 (matched JB) and will put into storage till current 360 gives up the final ghost which by the sounds of it wont be very long now. The upside is the bloke in game said bring it back when the new one is released and we will give you a $250 trade in for it so i actually earn a dollar. That to me makes a good deal.
