Today I managed to find an educational use for Rick Astley.

I'm more employable than my friends with engineering degrees, I help people in substantial and measurable ways on a daily basis, and I can justifiably watch Rick Astley on work hours. In that moment I realised I'd reached employment nirvana.

OK so there's this girl, right?
She's not good looking and I don't find her particularly interesting. However, we chatted on MSN for a while and one night she invited me round for some no-strings-attached sex. Naturally I accepted, did the deed, stayed the night, did it twice again in the morning and left. We talked and agreed that sex was fine but neither of us wanted a relationship.

Then she got all wanting to hang out and stuff, so I made excuses not to.
This evening she kept trying to invite me round, but I'm pretty goddamn tired after last night's drinking so I politely declined.

She kept asking to the point of almost begging me. When she offered sex, I sighed and figured I might as well. Headed round, did the deed, then when we were in bed she asked if I'd only come round because she offered sex.

I said yes, she got upset and kicked me out. Apparently I'm shallow.

I won't lie to you; you were. What you should have done was decline the sex (crazy, I know!), she would have offered more at some other time. Then you'd get a constant stream of sex and she wouldn't think you're an arse :p

If a chick pleads to hang out to the point of offering sex, you should probably decline >_>

Hmm, I would have thought she'd just get super pissed and pull the shallow card once again if he refused even with the offer of sex. The only way out of it is to cut off communications altogether.

I mean, when a girl is claiming no strings attached sex:

She mainly pulled the shallow card because I left to avoid an awkward morning rather than stay and try to fix the situation.
She's not worth it to me to try and get in her good books, and I'm damned if I'll be dating her anytime.

Last day of my trip to Kyoto and Osaka today.

Went to Universal Studios Japan yesterday which was pretty cool. Went on a heap of awesome rides with my friend Yukimi.

Today I went and saw the whale sharks at the Osaka aquarium, then went and saw an exhibition of over 1000 layouts from all of Studio Ghibli's films and checked out Deep Sea 3D at IMAX. Made my way into Umeda and tracked down the Osaka Pokemon Center, bought another Pokemon 151 t-shirt (Hypno). Heading back out to Namba tonight to go exploring.

Tomorrow... well, I'm catching a bullet train back to Okayama, then a local train back to my home in Shikoku. Unfortunately a typhoon is dumping 500mm of rain on my apartment at the moment, so the next few days are going to be spent inside I think.

star Zooey Deschanel topless as she climbs the high dive at an indoor swimming pool. We see her breasts from a distance as she stands on the diving board and then leaps off into the pool below, where a guy is waiting. We then get another quick look at her breasts when she rises back out of the water.

Stumbled across this hilarious rant from everyone's favourite: Beast.

Never letting ignorance get in the way of an opinion.

And then this random girl on facebook who I don't know started complaining about the two main political parties having the same policies on refugees. This is rather hilarious because the government is facing intense pressure at the moment from the other party because they've changed the policy to be more humane and many people claim this is too soft. At one point she admitted she hadn't read the policy of one of the parties and refused to. She also tried to complain about the Geneva Convention, which actually has nothing to do with refugees (confusing it with the 1951 Refugee Convention) and then posted 2 links defending her position when I pointed this out. The first link didn't actually contain any mention of the Geneva Convention, but did mention an organisation that has headquarters in the city of Geneva.

The second link was even funnier - confusing the Geneva Convention with the 1951 Refugee Convention and writing a long history of the convention;

http://www.wsws.org/articles/2001/feb2001/asyl-f15.shtml

It's a socialist website of course.

I love this quote;

"The Geneva Convention was drawn up in the aftermath of the Second World War and the Nazi Holocaust"

How can people be so ignorant of history? The Geneva Convention was written in 1899, and there were many complaints, and then war trials about breaches of the Geneva Convention - ie. the Nuremberg Trials. How do these errors perpetuate themselves?

Of course it's not really funny, because these people are so vocal and convince many people of their positions despite being so wrong. Just ask people whether the US has signed the Kyoto Protocol or not to see how much influence these people have.

There are more errors then I care to name, but the most obvious is this:

There are actually 4 Geneva Conventions:

First Geneva Convention for the Amelioration of the Condition of the Wounded and Sick in Armed Forces in the Field of 1864

Second Geneva Convention for the Amelioration of the Condition of Wounded, Sick and Shipwrecked Members of Armed Forces at Sea 1906

Third Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War 1929

Fourth Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War 1949

(As an aside the 4th Convention was enacted exactly as the "crazy socialist" describes)

There's random hardcore japanese lesbian maid porn on TV right now.

That's not the positive though. In fact, for me that's a negative.

The positive is that the program following it is a wacky maid crime-fighting drama. I've seen it before and it's hilarious. The maid takes on villains using acid and nunchuks, and her accomplice attacks gun-wielding men with a yo-yo. The special effects look so B-grade it hurts.

Which just goes to show, dogs have no survival instinct :p

Been a pretty good few weeks. Started dating again (haven't really "dated" in nearly 4 years), cleared up all my work dramas and was reassured of their ambitious long-term plans for my career, booked tickets to go to london next year, and rode a segway last night. My only regret is not having a pack of cards for a Gob Bluth-esque facebook pic.

If you're planning to leave Tokyo, make sure you organise a JRail pass before you leave. It'll cost you about $300, but that's a hell of a lot cheaper than a return Shinkansen to Hiroshima will cost you. You can use the pass on any JR Line, JR Bus, and the JR Miyajima Ferry too. That's enough to get you practically anywhere. The only downside is that you can't use it on Nozomi Shinkansen (the fastest bullet train).

If you do get a JRail pass, feel free to come down and visit me. Will take about a day or two out of your trip. You'll need to catch a Hikari Shinkansen to Okayama (about 3-4 hours from Tokyo) then a Nanpuu limited express for five hours to Sukumo (the end of the line). I can see the train station from my apartment.

I live in one of the most isolated, remote, and beautiful parts of the country but it's not exactly easy to get here. I love the quiet, authentic Japanese country lifestyle though. It's a side of Japan that not many people would get to see.

Man, I don't care how long it'll take out of my trip. There's no point in being in Japan if I'm not seeing all the sights! I'd love to come visit you. I'll figure out this JRail Pass thing, brush up on my train-catching phrases and you and me are getting pissed (or whatever it is you'd do in that part of Japan. =p). It's a date! =D

Bugs me because if my employers had made me permanent at work and given me overtime a year ago, Id be there now. :(

Sorry to be negative in the positivity thread. You guys have an excellent time! :)

On a more positive note, my brother is coming around soon to finnaly help me re-arrange my apartment. Finally, with a bit of work, this place is gonna be a home, rather than just the place I live.

Yeah, admittedly it's not quite as satisfying as the original. But once you get used to it the game mechanics are a bit more interesting and so far slightly more balanced (in as much as I don't automatically leave devastation in my wake as I did with the warrior in PQ).

I would have liked it though if more of the other things in the game was expanded. Like selling resources would have also benefitted from being able to buy them too and make money from the proceeds.

I got a review code luckily so I didn't have to pay for it. I think the two main issues with the game were that it put way too much emphasis on non-battle puzzling (opening all the warp gates is a ridiculously tedious exercise) and the multiplier system means that you or your opponent can win in a single move, but cannot possibly plan on doing so in advance, only by a fluke. The game requires absurd amounts of luck and/or grinding to beat the early missions and the whole map system was a pain to navigate. I think the actual tile board you fought on was a pretty nice change but in many ways the game was broken.

Oh shit, am I in off topic here?

Everybody knows the only reason you'd watch it is to see Manhattwang.

Though I'd argue that this particular description describes much of Puzzle Quest as well. Well, except maybe the map system although once you open up gates I find it's much more convenient than PQ.

I'd bastardise Weissensteiner and say that a failure to produce pics indicates that the alleged hotness of the girl having not been verified in fact doesn't exist.

Thirty dollars a hour is pretty good, I get twenty dollars p/h for sub contract cleaning which is not bad for easy work the cleaning only involves vacuuming and general house cleaning.

One of the awesome guys at work came up to me this afternoon and invited me to a staff party. Seeing as the staff I work with are awesome without exception, I agreed to come.

Then I found out it was at the principal's house. Japanese house etiquette is pretty goddamn insane, let alone the home of your boss. Whilst I'm pretty sure he'll call bureikou (putting aside social standing and just enjoying yourself) I'm still pretty nervous about accidentally committing social suicide by doing something really petty.

On the other hand, I'll probably be drunk on sake five minutes after walking through the door, in which case all discretions are automatically forgotten about. ;)

I'm not deluded, the Wallabies have a very very slim chance of beating the Boks tonight. I just hope the Wallabies manage to get out of their own half and put on some decent attacking Rugby, unlike last week.

Well it's been 15 minutes of game down, should we just preempt the end of the game and head over to the neg thread now?

Handling errors, slow rucks, and poor basics let them down.

Some flashes of brilliance though, and a better attacking display than last week.

But the thing that really stuck with me was intensity; SA charged like a bull out of the gate for the whole 80. Australia appeared listless.

8 days ago I levelled out some dirt, set up some edging and sprinkled some lawn seed.

Then for a week it rained, hailed, was windy as hell and I think birds were snacking on the seed.

But tonight I look at my patch of dirt and there is lawn growing. I HAVE CREATED LIFE!

My casual electorate officer job is secured by a number of discreet contracts (eg every time I work I sign a new contract for that day). And while I worked last week, it's been about a month since my last contract ran out so they paid out all my entitlements. Huzzah.
