Hot in Perth today. My computer temps were 48c System, 46c cpus , 48c hard drive and 55c Geforce 250gts
Took the sidepanel off and turned on my IXL Typhoon Fan ( 46cm blades) and directing air inside the pc.
Now the temps are 34c System 25c cpus 29c hard drive and 45c Geforce 250gts
Shit, I may as well disconnect all my computer fans and just use the typhoon for cooling :-)

Straight whipped cream isn't a favourite of ours, though I might just get some vanilla icecream and keep it simple.
There's an awful lot of food though, we might be too full anyway. Thankfully the supermarket is a walk away :)
Serenity

That's why you put maybe two tablespoons of icing sugar in whipped cream, it make it taste nicer. ;)

Great moments in Tasmanian Politics:
[A Letter to Will Hodgmen, the leader of the Tasmanian Liberal Party, from Hobart City alderman and now former Liberal; Marti Zucco]
Dear Will
As you are well aware, a number of long term hard working committed Liberal party members wanted me to join the party with intent to win two seats in Denison
Before I joined the Liberal party my first point of call was to speak to the leader and leadership group.
I spoke to you in your office about this and our discussion was very positive to the point you wholeheartedly agreed that I would assist the party in winning two seats in Denison. In fact you made the point that I would outpoll Elise Archer. Hence the reasons why I joined the party, as you said I had your support.
What is also fact is the media was also suggesting that it was time the party looked outside the square, etc. etc.
Which brings me to the reason behind this email; the media is rife with accusations there is elitism and favoritism in the party. This not far off the mark, but the concern is why and how this happens and in particular how it creates the problems for you and that is the part which is most disturbing. The sad thing is it is at the expense of genuine hard working potential candidates and members who are genuinely interested in making a difference than those over ambitious, self interested candidates who would rather work against the team for their own interest.
I have been associated with many organisations in my time, played team sports for years, and even in the political world of Local government, I have never experienced the lack of team work in an organization such as the Tasmanian Liberal party. I have seen it and witnessed it and felt the brunt of it.
The question I ask is WHY? Well today I have finally found that reason - lack of backbone and lack of real leadership! What is it that you afraid of Will? That if you show some real backbone and leadership you will be criticised from “others" in the party? Well those same very people may just cast you aside should you not win the election and you will be the blame!
Either you have your head in the sand or just don’t want to listen; but the world I live in and the many people I see every day have one common comment - you’re a very poor leader. If you are not aware of this then you definitely do have your head in the sand!
You had an opportunity to have two very hard working committed candidates in Marti Zucco and Sue Hickey.
As to me you failed to show any support even though the whole unfortunate situation was initiated by another potential candidate.
With Sue Hickey you could have assisted her in her situation but failed to do so.
But when it comes to others you also show poor leadership and don’t act. The incident at the Taste Festival was totally uncalled for and you should have acted and shown leadership with the immediate sacking of that candidate. Irrespective of what was said and who did or said what. The mere fact that a Liberal Party candidate made an approach to a former candidate was enough. But you failed - again I ask the question why?
On the basis that you have shown me that you favor certain people in the party for whatever reason I am appalled.
You made an unwarranted and unjustified reference to me having an association with a biker group. Irrespective of how we all perceive a biker group or other groups they do have one thing that is a code of ethics and support each other through its leaders. The Liberal party philosophy is a farce and the party has no ethics and no real leadership. I would go and fight behind John Freeman any day but cannot and will not with you.
In closing I attach a copy of how I best describe The “Bad Taste debacle” and also an incident that happened to me at pre-selection that I have not mentioned before. Why? As most likely I would not have been believed. Now maybe I will be.
Despite all the antics of these people the emails and the “complaint” in which I have as yet NOT received a copy (and as you are a lawyer and also know the Liberal Party constitution), then this must be the worst case of injustice I know and for “others” to cry foul with the Lord Mayor carrying out his duty under the act (with the taste incident) is hypocrisy, especially considering I have never received a copy of the complaint to the Liberal party some 13 months on.
Sorry Will, I cannot support you and nor the Party. I will not wish you well in the election as you have been given enough opportunity to show me leadership and you have failed time and time again. The Sue Hickey incident was the last straw.
In saying that I am informing you that I am resigning from the party and the reasons are you have not shown to me you are a person worthy to lead the party nor the State
Regards
Marti Zucco

Losing it - Tony Kaye falls out with Hollywood (http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2002/oct/25/artsfeatures.advertising)
Tony Kaye directed American History X, and it recounts how he essentially spiralled out of control when the project was taken from his control and how he proceded to alienate the entire industry.
He's only made a second feature since, Black Water Transit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Water_Transit) which was filmed in 2007 and is still yet to see the light of day.

Logged onto facebook and this girl i met on the weekend has actually tried to talk to me in the IM. Bit unexpected as i didn't think i made that good of an impression. We only ended up hanging out because my mate dragged me into capitol then over to the couches and sat down and started talking to her, introduced me then promptly bailed. His other mate then kept carrying on about how he'd left which quickly made things awkward. By the time he finally bailed too my mood was pretty well ruined so i was definitely not my most charming. At some point during the night though she'd made a note in my phone with her name telling me to add her on facebook so i did not expecting anything. Now i'm going to have to leave her a wall comment or something and try not to sound like an idiot.

I've been listening to Tool for about 7 years and I still enjoy it, musically and lyrically. I know I've had this discussion about a dozen times on these forums, but I think their lyrics are straightforward if you're proficient with the english language and have a small university background in philosophy, morality, and politics. There's nothing in Tool's music that hasn't regularly been employed by authors for centuries.
Lyrically, Tool's music is straightforward if you come from an educated/read background; it's only "wank" if you're a derivative prog-head buried in a pair of headphones who never reads or engages with anything. Since when are lyrical devices like "metaphor", "reference", and "analogy" so terrifying?
A few examples. "The Grudge" is quite simply a song about clinging to old ideas, and the humbling but difficult release of a grudge. It's a very simple, very human message; nothing metaphysical there. The references to "scarlet letterman" just refers to a book on the same subject matter, and "saturn" refers to greek mythology. "Vicarious" and "Stinkfist" refer to desensitisation to humanity through the spoils of culture, a theme you can pick out of any high school english textbook. "Parabol(a)" are generic frameworks for growing through experience.
If you think it's wank musically, I'm not even sure where to begin addressing that.
I find it almost unlistenable. But each to their own. :)

Thinking about doing some French, just to see what it's like in comparison to learning Chinese.
Anyone here know any French? What was it like to learn?
I studied both in High School (Chinese for 8 years (no i wasn't in high school for 8 years :p ) and French for 2), and French is considerably easier to get your head around. If you've been doing well with chinese, particularly with its grammatical constructs, you'll really enjoy French. Plus it's great fun to converse in. Makes you feel hella cool. :)

I assume you studied Chinese in primary school, then high school? I'm not sure how you studied it for eight years ... :p
I didn't find Chinese grammar that hard, though? It's a lot simpler than European languages, because of lack of conjugations. But I suppose that verb complements and its grammatical delicacy make it a bit harder.

The worst thing was the interview they had with a surgeon, who was basically feathering his own cap, saying that lifestyle and exercise can only achieve so much weight loss, but not one hundred kilograms of weight loss. Therefore, he concluded that the only true answer for people of that size was surgery...
