The best thread ever is baaack!!

Also, my band is having our EP Launch at The Zoo in The Valley, Brisbane, tonight.

The Estates, with Lion Island and Jake Rush and the Bad Habits.

Pretty much the coolest thing that has ever happened to me. Headlining at The Zoo on a friday night is a pretty big privalege.

I amazingly found a 32GB black iPhone for sale in WA today! I think it may have been the last one too! After waiting for such a long time to move from my iPod Touch and into an iPhone... I'm pretty nonchalant about the whole thing.

I mean I haven't even opened it yet! Normally I rip open shiny new gadgets as soon as I get them home!

Maybe it's the fact that they're going for $1300 on eBay at the moment... and I'm only paying $240 for it over the next two years. And seriously my little W850i is working fine after two and a half years of rock solid performance. But on the other hand, only carrying one device around with me is something I've been looking forward to for ages!

Ho hum... It's not the worst situation to be in though!

Any thoughts?

So... party aftermath. One broken window, one confused bunny rabbit, and one almost full yard glass:

http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/3617/bunnys.jpg

The bunny was found bouncing around our backyard, turned out that it escaped from our neighbours and it was clearly very used to people - it probably heard all the racket and came to say hi. Some of the more drunk girls naturally flew into a panic when a helpless animal turned up, but thankfully it was all resolved.

http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/2909/img0246y.jpg

The Yardy has been going for a while now - all bottle caps are put into it when we're drinking, once it's full to the top whoever puts the last one in before it won't hold any more has to drink a yard. The bottle caps were about 2/3 up the neck when we started drinking last night.

I cbf'd posting a broken window because, well, it's just a broken window.

That rabbit was awesome. Franklin Zappa, the dwarf lop.

We had her for 2 years. She escaped from her cage and couldn't be caught, lived as a free range rabbit for a month or so, and then disappeared.

Heading to the snow!

Also managed to get away with minimal sleep (about 4 hours total on the train) after night shift yesterday.I was reading somewhere that people are more inclined to brag about depriving themselves of sleep (wearing it as a 'badge of honour' of sorts) than they are about getting a lot of sleep. They feel it shows that they work harder and don't have time to get a lot of sleep because they are such diligent, hardworking people.

Well I slept for twelve hours last night and averaged between nine and a half and ten and a half hours sleep every night last week while working on two websites, a corporate video and my part time job. Get that in ya!

Do you live in Japan? What do you do there?

I've lived in Japan for just over four months now. I teach 208 高校一年生 (first-year High School students) and 50 高校三年生 (final-year High School students).

When I was approached by my company to live and work over here, I requested to be placed in a rural part of Japan so I could experience a different, more intimate side of the country and culture. And that's exactly what I've gotten so far.

I live in a small city called Sukumo, Kochi Prefecture (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=sukumo,+japan&sll=36.204824,138.252924&sspn=42.548567,93.076172&ie=UTF8&ll=32.927437,132.724457&spn=0.349838,0.727158&t=h&z=11&iwloc=A). It's at the south-western point of Shikoku (the smallest of Japan's four main islands). Shikoku is almost entirely covered in mountains, and is populated mainly on the northern fringe beside the inland sea. If you check that link, you'll see that my area is very sparsely populated, mainly in the shallow valleys between the mountains. It's clean, it's quiet, it's peaceful, and it's very beautiful (http://s418.photobucket.com/albums/pp269/buronzu/Ooshima/).

So yeah... In regards to my last post, I went to the Hirata summer festival tonight, and had a great time. Saw hundreds of my students in traditional yukata and kimono, had some awesome food, and the fireworks display went for almost half an hour.

AtrHH2ztSAA

I caught up with some of the teachers from my school and a few other Aussies that I know from the area. It was great to see them all again (because I'm on a six-week summer holiday at the moment).

Speaking of Japan, I booked my flight to Osaka on Friday :) I'll be traveling with a mate of mine called David Boon (no shit).

Don't be. I can guarantee you that the heat and humidity right now would have you running for the nearest air conditioner. http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/pp269/buronzu/New/lemonvinegargreenteaplumsoda.jpg

Lemon Vinegar Kit Kat
Green Tea Coke
Plum Soda Kit Kat

Joining such previous favourites as Basil Pepsi and pickled plum potato chips (http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/pp269/buronzu/New/shisoume.jpg), Muscat Fanta (http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/pp269/buronzu/New/muscatfanta.jpg), and Salty Vanilla Kit Kats (http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/pp269/buronzu/New/IMG_0144.jpg).

Just had a lemon vinegar Kit Kat, and OH MY GOD they're delicious. Like a lemon merangue with a kick. Has a very strong, persistant (and pleasant!) after taste.

Plum soda Kit Kat... I can't even begin to describe it. The chocolate it's coated in is light green and has a peculiar taste. It's not like anything I've ever had before. It's intriguing, and the flavour changes in intensity with every chew. Very strange.

Green Tea Coke is incredibly subtle. It's got just the slightest taste of green tea. It's really quite nice. I very much prefer it over normal Coke.

Funnily enough if you said 'atm machine' the confusion would be lessened. :P

Turns out my Son had a fairly high temp (38.2 for those who want to know) and was shivering when I put him to sleep, but after juicing him up on panadol he had a pretty sound sleep. He just had a sheet and one blanket as well, so his temp dropped over the night.

*phew* Of course, I'm at work now *grumble* off to the Neg thread...

I'm effectively only working two days this week. I've been asked to help out at a career expo a high school is putting on on Wednesday, which is easy enough and different enough from my normal job not to seem like work, then on Thursday and Friday I have 'orientation', even though I've been working for TAFE for the past year.

Josh Thomas should be replaced with Angus Sampson.

I don't even care if it's the wrong generation for him.

I like Josh Thomas. He's not overly funny, but he has a certain charm. Ross Noble should replace everyone bar Shaun though, really.

Woke up early this morning and caught a train/bus from Kyoto station to Kinkakuji Temple. Ran into a couple of lost Norwegian guys there, and we became good friends. We hung out for the rest of the day, made our way to Ryoanji Temple and its famous zen garden, went to the Kyoto International Manga Museum (which had a brilliant display on Japanese folklore monsters), went shopping in Bic Camera for videogames, checked out Fushimi Inari Taisho (one of the most amazing places I've ever been), then we went and had sushi and sake in one of the Geisha districts.

Brilliant day. Tomorrow's plans look just as good. Will post photos from this week once I get back home to Shikoku on Monday.

Went down south for a wine tour with about a dozen girls from work. Good fun. It's taken me years to be desensitised to that kind of thing so I'm a bit proud of myself >_>

Why did you have to lick one of them out to go on a wine tour? >_>
or all of them? If so, (H) for syt!

Today is pretty much my last day at work for the week. Got some stupid induction thing tomorrow and friday (which seems a little redundant since I've been here for a year already) which involves sitting on my arse and listening to boring speeches.

On second thought, I think I'd rather be working.

Went to Sanjusangendo, Kiyomizu, Nanzenji, and Ginkakuji temples today.

Was pretty awesome. The 1001 golden life-sized Kannon statues in Sanjusangendo were amazing.

Each one of them is almost as tall as I am, and each of them was individually hand crafted over half a millennium ago. You can't see even half of them in that photo, they just keep going on and on.

Did you count them to make sure they were all there? :p

Sounds quite amazing, is it possible to photograph all of them if you stood in front of it and kept moving back until they fit into 1 frame?

Not possible.

Photography inside the building is forbidden because it's a working, practicing, buddhist temple. It'd be like foreign tourists flocking into a Catholic church on a Sunday while the priest is giving a sermon, and taking photos of the building with flashes going off everywhere. It just wouldn't happen. It's disrespectful.

Oh, and the building is damn long, and covered in wooden panels to keep the sunlight from ruining the statues. If you stepped outside, you'd still only see a small segment. ;)

What are the statues made out of?

They're all carved out of wood.

I've got tickets to see 美女と野獣 (Disney's Beauty and the Beast musical) at Kyoto Theatre today, so that should be awesome. Checking out an exhibition of paintings from the Louvre at Kyoto Museum of Art this morning. Catching a bullet train to Osaka this afternoon, where I'll start exploring all over again.

Time for breakfast now methinks...:D
