I'm a little worried about my job. I'm a government employee acting in a position and I heard the other day that the permanent employee in that job had finally given up the position, so they'll be advertising it. But before they do they need to see if there's anybody anywhere in any government department that needs to be redeployed. If there is, I'll be out of a job, which isn't very nice. Not sure if I'm worrying about nothing, but you never know with government deptarments.

You shouldn't, or if you do need it, you should have CDs that came with it for them.
When I got my laptop the first thing I did was install Windows 7 on it, and it works absolutely fine.
Windows' generic drivers are ****ing awesome anyway.
The only backup shit you get with HP laptops is what you make with blank DVDs after you first boot it up. Although Vista and especially 7 are good at finding drivers now.

Actually I think that's standard for all laptops now, my Toshiba was the same.

It usually is, I was pleasantly surprised when packing up a Dell laptop at work that not only does it come with proper drivers DVDs, but it comes with the actual Windows install disc. It was amazing!

My housemate and I will be moving out of our rental in Bentley soon (I'm buying and he's coming with me). We pay $320 a week. For me it's over priced for what it is. House is pretty small and is more for student accomodation. We could always just get you to move in, put your name on the lease and then have us move out :P Not sure they'd like that, though.
I hate my job. Not so much for the work itself, but it ebbs and flows. The last two days I've had nothing to do. Today I've got some many things going I've barely had time to scratch myself. I'm taking a little break now for my sanity.

$230? Where the hell are you renting for that cheap? We looked at moving about a year ago (before I decided to buy instead) and for the places we were looking at it was pretty much a minimum of $350 for a house in an area we liked.

Renting in Shelley (house is alright - frontyard, backyard, garage, shed - but its a duplex), but I have been there for about 6 years so back then $150pw was considered pretty high. Then in the last couple of years it increased without any renovations whatsoever

Halt, Hammerzeit
26-08-2009, 04:49 PM
Regardless of if they're nice or not doesn't mean they're not adverse to making more money out of their investment. Plus, if they have a loan on it and are renting it out for less than market value, they can get in trouble with the tax man if they're negatively gearing their investment.

Inflation is 4-5% per year. That only accounts for about half of the increase, the rest is the shitty rental market.

I had the same rent for a few years and then bam! Went up by $50pw, then the year after that it rose again by $30pw. Would be so much easier with a roomate
Anyway I've got a confirmed house to stay in already, better than what I have (a real house with 3 bedrooms), very close & only $150pw (no other people, just me). Only problem is, I can only stay there for 1-1.5 years before I'll have to move out again, at least I've got somewhere to go and I can start moving stuff soon

Terrible night last night. Went to a Quiz night with work. Was outside with some friends, went inside to piss andtalk to some other people. Didn't touch a drink, just before going back upstairs i went back out just to check others who were a bit sloppy had people with them and suddenly i'm not allowed back in. Apparently ii'm too drunk. At the time i could walk a perfectr straight line, i could speak better than the thick prick at the door. I was perfectly fine. Basicly i voiced my objections, never getting angry or violent until one of the bouncers shoves me down the stairs in the same breath as asking me to move on. No chance to just comply, arsehole just shoved me. SO Naturally i got pretty angry at that point started yelling at the ****s. They called the cops, who told me that despite thinking i'm not in a bad shape they had to move me on because a complaint had been made and i should go drink on the other side of the bridge.
While later we're standing outside Carnigies and my friend turns for me and asks for her wallet, which i don't have. I panic walk off to look for this wallet i think i've lost, end up getting lost alone in northbridge. In the following hour i almost got mugged twice, one guy actually grabbing me and asking if i had money, managed to convince him that it was my wallet i had lost and was looking for. Finally my friend answers her phone, turns out her other friend had the wallet the whole time. Didn't bother calling me to tell me or anything. Finally meet up with them then get dragged to the rise, where i payed $20 to get in and listen to a fgt DJ. Ended up hitting the shooters, spent a **** load of my money. Got stuck standing around while friend hooked up with some fag, waiting for her friend to come bck cos im holding wallets and have to pass them on before i can leave. Soon as she got back i handed shit over and bailed without a word. THanks for the great night bitches.

^I've learned from years of going out that you gotta look out for your friends when out and on the piss. I have one close mate who I go out with lots, and we bounce off each other well, usually. The 'buddy' system works well (not a formal system of course). You tend to look out for your best mate in the group you're with. You know tell them stuff like don't be smart to the bouncers, don't hit on that girl, her boyfriend is right there, DON'T BUY CORONA YOU GODDAMN TREND WHORE!

DUNK: I can sympathize with that. I used to go to Amplifier with a big group of mates, practically every Friday and Saturday. One of them had an apartment around the corner and we always had a big tub of Jungle Juice made up (1 bottle vodka, 2 or so litres dry white wine, 2 litres of tropical juice, 2 litres of lemonade, sugar to taste...still remember the recipe!).
This was well before the place was taken over by vacuous nighclub snobs. It was still full of rock people. But I went over the list of my old friends in my head the other day, sorta Where Are They Now style...
One is in a long term relationship and doesn't go out much anymore (still good mate), one moved to Melbourne, one got banned form Amps for selling dexies (!), two of them dated for years and now cant stand each other, one got really depressed one day and attempted suicide, crippling herself in the process (she's doing lots better now though) and one had an anuyerism and died. RIP Jimmy!
So yeah, thats a touch more dramatic than everyone being in Mandurah. But I feel your pain...

I noticed something on Sunday. I went in to La Trobe uni to study for an assignment I have due in soon and noticed that on the tram there was a much larger crowd than usual for a Sunday. To my surprise It was actually La Trobe open day, where I had a talk to one of the supervisors about how low-key the event was this year actually.
Getting to what got me angry, I noticed the large number of families there with their teenage children. I mean honestly **** sake, they're finishing high school, it's time to let them be independent. Let them go to an open day themselves. If they're going to uni, they need to hastily learn the difference in terms of independent studies between high school and uni.

At Maccas some managers would alter shifts so that it looked like people finished on time, to make themselves look better (when we'd usually run late on a close shift because we were too busy).
So I got in the habit of recording my clocking times in a book, then rocking up every Monday morning when the store manager was in and getting her to adjust my pay. Then it got to the point where she got sick of me doing that so was yelling at her managers "Stop ****ing with Steve's pay!"

But there's probably a lot of contributing factors - weight, poor patterns, caffeine, shit bed etc. So I'll probably try to sort those out before I jump to conclusions, and self diagnose.

At footy yesterday I got punched about a cm above and to the right of my dick and today it (the area that was hit) has swollen up. I don't think it's serious but it's definitely uncomfortable and makes my groinal area a bit unsightly. FML.
EDIT: Though in thinking about it, perhaps I should just be grateful that it was higher than it could have been.

You'd notice the difference whilst driving, rides should be smoother and you'll have less chance of being in an accident. Still much cheaper than getting a gearbox replacement too which usually costs more than the car's worth

I hate Optus with a passion. I've got about 10 bills that I have to process as part of my job. Most of them are easy, but for some reason there is always an issue with the Optus bill and I end up spending an hour trying to work out what the hell is wrong.

There's a car alarm that's been going off for the last 30min, car alarms are the most useless invention ever! I've never seen one gone off whilst being stolen at the same time. Either invent better car alarms that can detect thieves or just don't bother

Don't you just love those ones that make all kinds of noises instead of just the one? :p Goes something like "Wooop! Beep beep beep! Step away from the vehicle! EH EH EH!"
And by love I mean bloody annoying.
I've got house alarms nearby that sometimes go on for ages, usually after that person leaves their house for a 2 week vacation

F*** I HATE WINDOWS! >_<
All morning at work I had to keep clicking "Restart Later" after it had done an update. Now the one at home - which I had left on since 8am to re-encode a 22GB HDTV recording - had just restarted when my back was turned to cook dinner, aborting the encoding.
F***!
And I know I can turn off auto updates, but if they didn't do them automatically, they'd never get done. >_>
FrozenSoul80

You should've just restarted when it asked you to

You clearly missed the part where my computer had been encoding a video file for 11 hours, since 8am, and still was, when it performed the update.
Restarting when it had asked me to would have resulted in the same waste of encoding time, and having to start it again.
No, I meant your work one.

You clearly missed the part where I said "morning", implying I eventually did, when I had finished the job I was working on. I don't like having to restart mid-job, once you're on a roll you really don't want to stop.

You can't do that with XP, which is what used to drive me crazy. Waiting 15-20 minutes for my old computer to restart was torture, especially when I had stuff to do.

Just found out that Still Life 2 was release last month (in the US), only to also find out that Microids sourced out development to an incompetent company that has created a glitchy and dated looking adventure title. A game made four years after its predecessor should not look worse... or have a forced 1024x768 screen resolution. O_o

Its okay, once in Townsville I got off the bus two stops early to vomit in someone's garden. I then bought a sausage roll and a powerade at a servo and walked the rest of the way to campus. At some point I took my shoes off to carry them.

I'd buy that anime (but I bet what you described is only in the first volume, after which the series switches tempo to be more serious and deep)
