One year left on RROD three year warranty which is the good news.

Does anyone notice going to the xbox guide menu now takes a bit longer and sending/checking message does as well. Kind of like a lag as it fails to load half the time. I barely check messages in lobby as it takes so long, we end up finding some game and I get pwned before I can even leave the xbox guide screen :/

Definately not Express! Fairly sure its registered, as my last repair return i was able to track online.

It's registered. Having said that while not being express I've generally sent mine in and had it back within 15 business days.

Got mine back today. Gone two weeks total. I did get a 1 Month free Live card, which is nice. Pretty good service, M$, but your failure rate is still way too high.

I read somewhere that this happens over the life of the console, just like a Windows machine which has never been formatted.

To catch MS out of this happens I actually mark certain parts of my console so I can identify it if there's been a switch. Strangely I still get it back within 2 weeks. THe last 2 occasions I received my console back they contained the exact marks so in those cases mine weren't refurbs. Having said that I'd be pissed if I got someone elses as I've looked after mine. Did you get a refurb?

Did that. Got it back. Wasn't a refurb but the DVD tray doesn't open and close as smoothly now as when it did before I sent it. :/

I recently got my 360 back, the DVD drive needed to be repaired cause it was failing to read games. I don't know what they've done but now the drive sounds very loud, like it's a cement mixer or it's trying to lunch my game discs!
I run games off the hard drive, but I've had to reinstall all my games because they aren't recognized any more as having originally being installed on my 360.
I also have to reinstall the NXE update; I still have most of the upgrades from when I previously installed it but since the repair I've lost my avatar and can't make a new one. My avatar! :(

Switched on my 360 yesterday and bam up popped on the screen the black screen with the E74 Error message along with one red flashing light. To say I was not amused about this development was a slight understatement......... This is the second time Ive had problems with my 360, it froze up about twelve months ago and I had it repaired under warranty and its been great until now.
I'm pretty sure my warranty has expired. Does anyone know if this is covered under the three year warranty??

It is indeed covered (http://www.xbox.com/en-AU/support/). Microsoft added the E74 to the RROD 3 year warranty service when it started happning more alarmingly often...

Just bought a new 120 g HDD off ebay to transfer onto from my ancient 20 g.
However the cd that came with it is not being recognised by my 360. Anyone else have this issue. Just comes up as mixed media disk and i can't run it :(

Hmm, I seem to be having some problems where I start my 360 up, but it doesn't load the disc in the drive, and I can't just open and close the tray with that game, I have to put another disc in, the console then reads that one and then I swap it for the first game I put it and everything works okay.

I sold my repaired 360 to Cashies for $110. It never ****ed up again although I hardly ever used it and it was still hot like a bastard, not like my red Jasper or even black Falcon.
Moral? Don't buy your next 360 from Cashies.

So half an hour after after my previous post I found out my xbox was waiting for me at the post office..So I unpacked it last night and I think its been upgraded to a Jasper, Im pretty sure they replaced the power supply unit. Im not sure though.
And Im not 100% convinced I got my original console back either..interesting..
There's no way you got your original console back.
enrique
11-08-2009, 11:10 AM
UC1 what makes you say that??
Having checked both the original console and the console sitting in front of me ID numbers, they dont match up, so its definitely a different console.
Not withstanding the fact the disk drawer behaves differently and I had to reinstall all my games onto the console and hard drive they were orginally installed onto. And I had to change the display setting back to PAL-60.
Im just glad to have a 360 back in my house again............
I heard they just bring them in, put them in a queue to be fixed, and as units are refurbed they send them out again. The account info can be transferred to any xbox, so there's no point in sending back the same unit.

I think they basically swap the guts out.
My console had the same serial number and discreet mark but the dvd drive looked different and I had to reinstall my games as it said they can only be played on the original console they were installed on.

I think it all depends on the exact nature of your catastrophe.
Given that they didn't request I send the power brick, don't know if they have with others, I don't see that the box could be swapped direct for the newer chipsets?
FrozenSoul80
12-08-2009, 12:44 AM
Old power bricks work with new consoles, but not vice versa. Getting a new console will not affect the usability of your power brick.

Hey guys,
New to the forum/site.
Having a real shit time with my 360 and Microsoft customer service.
Just wondering if any of you have had a similar shit experience like mine, this is what has happened so far.
Had my 360 since the start of 07 and a couple of months ago I get the mythical 3RROD.
So sent it away, service was great, but when I got it back when I put a game in to play the cd drive started making a loud buzzing sound which was very loud and annoying whilst trying to play your game. So called them back told them about the problem, they go send it back and we will take care of it. So thats ok I am slighly unhappy that they have had my xbox for 2 weeks and sent it back to me with another problem but hey atleast i will get it back and it will work and on top I will get an extra 1 month gold live subscription.
Come another two weeks, xbox is back, yep you guessed it still making the loud noise. Call them up and asked them what did you guys do? it still has the same proplem, and I quote "We couldnt find anything wrong with it so we sent it back to you". Wow that is great so my word means shit to you does it? So extreamly disapointed that they where all apologetic and wanted me to send it back to them for a THIRD TIME!!, so they could actually properly look at the xbox this time.
So in great disapointment and slight anger I boxed up the 360 for the third time to the service centre. Another two and a bit weeks pass and come today I recieved the console back....... So now I am just angry, how can I send it to them three times and it is still not functioning right?? Called them up today spoke to one of the call centre supervisors and another one will be calling me back. All they can offer me is someone elses broken refurbished piece of shit console. For the amount of money I have spent on my console and the amount of my time they have wasted, I do not think a refurbished console is good enough.
So I will let you know what happens but has any one had any similar problems to mine? Has anyone recieved a refurb from them? How are they?

The noisy cd drive is actually a really common feature of the 360 and only later models and, occasionally, early models built in certain factories did not have a cd drive that sounds like a jet engine.
There are ways to mitigate the noise though. Installing games to the hard drive is the best one. However, the worst offender for drive noise - actually the only game that remained a problem on my later models - is Halo 3, and Halo 3 cannot be installed (well you can, but it runs worse than off the disc so don't, even Bungie command you not to.)
I used to poke a credit card into the closed drive tray (it goes in about a milimeter or two) and found this secures the tray just enough to make a major reduction in how much it vibrates against itself.
The reason the service people don't understand what's wrong with your unit is because it's normal for 360's! You just got lucky the first time!
The two Elite models I bought more recently (new) do not have the drive noise problem btw.

Mine is a pro model. But its an unbearably loud buzzing sound which only come about after they sent the box back. I know that there is some buzzing sounds but not like mine and im really not a fan of installing the game on the drive it just slows everything down.

^ Try attaching a note to your console when you send it away for repairs saying: The DVD drive makes noises! Fix it!
enrique
15-08-2009, 10:52 AM
Well at least yours plays stuff when you want it too. Although the loud noise would be quite annoying, I sympathise.
Went to play a Family guy DVD this morning, put disc 2 in, the 360 wouldnt play it (grrrrrr), so put disc one in and it worked fine. I've heard of others having this problem with recent DVD releases, what would cause this? The dvd drawer sags slighty when opened, could this be the cause?
Of course this never happened with my old console, damn refurbs!!

The only solution that I have for the 360 jet engine noise (and the old Xbox 1 as well, noisy bastard that it was) is to crank up the volume, especially the surround sound it you have it. Then you don't hear the noises so bad.
I used to think my various PS2's were a "bit noisy". Guess I was wrong, THANKS MICROSOFT!!!
My DS has been making a lot of noises when I play it, but then I turn the volume down and they stop.
Remember the days when consoles were silent and deadly? I sure do.
Anyhow, I've only sent my 360 back for repairs ONCE.... so far. After 4 months, it stopped reading anything you put in it, just made noises.
They repaired it and sent it back in about 2 weeks, so far no RROD at all and no damage to any DVDs while in the drive.

Is anyone else here having problems logging onto XBox Live? I get "Server Not Found" when I try to access http://account.live.com which controls my XBox and Windows Live access, and of course I can't log onto Live Marketplace when I boot up the 360 - my friends appear, but all the other options are missing. I'm not having any trouble with any other URL or online service so my ADSL is working. I can't see anyone else here complaining about it, so I'm guessing it's just me but I can't figure out why. Maybe my modem is dying?
EDIT. Unbelievable, after seeing this problem for 48 hours straight, I post here and then try to log in and bang - works perfectly. These really are great forums! ;)

Pretty sure my old elite needs fixing. Shading went a bit funny before I returned to the dashboard, and it was still playing up then. So I turned it off, went and did other stuff for a while, came back and on power-up I got nothing (aside from the power button, no red rings or anything). I tried with another set of AV plugs on a different TV, and while I could now get sound (the startup whoosh and all that), I still have no video. So it sounds like the video card is kaput.
Does this sound familiar to anyone or should I just go and call them up? Seems like a pretty straightforward card replacement to me.

So my Xbox just RRoD'd. It's a launch model that's been repaired previously, and this sort of came out of the blue - no excess heat anywhere where it's stored or anything. Out of many attempts to turn it on, removing the Hard Drive managed to breathe some life into it, but subsequent attempts to repeat this failed. Looks like it's dead for good.
Given that it's no longer covered by warranty, is it worth repairing it again? How much am I looking at (or should I just call up and enquire?).
Or should I just save up and get an Arcade model? I'm a bit pissed cause I'm really poor, just renewed my XBL membership and generally don't think I should have to rebuy a console I already own, but the upside of this is that I get an Xbox with an HDMI output (and hopefully a Jasper chipset that won't **** itself up it's own ass again).
****ing XBOX Live.
I try to log into my profile, and it say "Your account has been suspended due to an issue with payment" or some shit. I bought a one month subscription on a credit card a couple of months ago, but I have since cancelled the credit card. It says 'monthly' under subscription type. I planned on buying the one month, and then when it ran out, I expected that my account would just go back to silver like it normally does when a sub runs out. But it's somehow trying to make it a recurring payment on a non-existent credit card, and not letting me just use Silver.
Is there any way to fix this? I don't want to have to buy a subscription card from EB just to change my account.
Also, is there any way to delete old payment options from the list? I've got two credit cards on there that no longer exist.

From memory, xbox.com.au, under my account, account summary, manage payment options. Your existing cards should be listed there and you will have the option to remove.

I'm pretty sure you have to call them to correct that issue. It's a trap Microsoft use to get you to keep paying for Live.
They can just get ****ed.
I hate calling them. No offense to anybody, but … They're all a bunch of Indians putting on fake American accents, who don't understand English, or what an XBOX is.
Sigh. I'll call them, delete the credit cards over the phone, and then just use the store-bought cards for Live and points. ****ing Microsoft.

It's odd that you got stung by the credit card trap, I assumed it was common knowledge not to pay for Live with your credit card (buying points is fine, I do it all the time). Perhaps we should put a warning somewhere :/

If you register your Windows Live/Hotmail account in a different country (say US), and you want to download a map pack for a game (e.g Gears of War 1) and you're currently in Australia, it will not let you download. You'll get the error message: "This item isn't available from your current location"
Only workaround is to create a Windows Live/Hotmail account based in the country you are in and download the content you want.
Found out the hard way. :(
Time to get a new gamertag.
There goes my Gears ranking. :(
EDIT: Further google searches indicate that this is a problem with LIVE accounts if you move countries as you cannot change the billing country in your account if you use a credit card to pay for your GOLD subscription. You started in the UK with a LIVE account and MS points, it's useless if you moved to Germany.
MS solution? New account, new gamertag. Zero start for your achievement points.

Hey just a question does anyone know why a Xbox 360 would sometimes not load games? What happens is I put the game into the console it starts to load then it goes to the open tray option.
My Xbox is a 120gig elite I've had it for around 6 months and it's been going fine so far I'm thinking it might be to do with the lens most probably, though I have had a slight suspicious feeling it might be getting the dreaded Rrod syndrome though I'm pretty sure the warning signs for that are the console freezing and going extememly slow.

I've been having that same problem too, but I have no idea what causes it, and it fixes up if I put another game in the drive, load it up, then go and put the original game back in the console.

Sounds like a garden-variety malfunction to me.
If you can't get the system repaired (or replicate the fault on demand) perhaps installing the games could get around the problem with the drive? (assuming the drive works long enough to install!)
FrozenSoul80
27-08-2009, 07:38 PM
Is this the problem where you go to load up a game, but everything just freezes (including the guide button)? I get that sometimes, I really wish I knew what caused it. Installing games doesn't help, the problem seems to involve the disk drive failing to start spinning.
AranchineD
27-08-2009, 08:18 PM
No, I think he means that when you load up the console with a disc inside it, it goes straight to the dashboard, and it says "Open Tray" (which is what it usually says when there isn't a disc in there) instead of "Play Game", so you can't tell the console to actually load the game up.

Are downloads on your PC scewing up too? Disconnections? Noise on your phone line? Could be an internet issue corrupting downloads, I've had that happen.

Nah I think its because when I first tried to play it while I was offline. Thinking it needs to register that its the console that downloaded it that installed it or something. Id try it but that involves moving my whole console down the other end of the house to go online.
Quick question: if I buy a Gold account can both the profiles on my X360 use it?

No, only the profile that activated it but that profile can access Live from any Xbox.

Meh, I took my box to my friends to use his internet and get some more tracks for Guitar Hero World tour when I discovered that I couldn't get onto Live. I've registered on xbox.com with my Gamertag (which said that it was available) and then when I logged on through the box yesterday it said that the gamertag was already in use, when I have already registered it with the same login etc...
Any ideas what to do, will I lose all my achievements if I have to make a new one or can I migrate them somehow?

My box died last weekend after 3 years of faithful life. It actually RROD a year and a half a go, but was fine when I turned it back on the next day.
I will miss it.
I'll be using this one until the next XBOX SKU comes out. Hopefully soon. So long my old xbox lasts until I can find out if the new release is reliable.
I cant connect to my router using the xbox wireless adaptor. Never had an issue with it wired directly into the router and the wii connects to the router with no issue so im at a complete loss and xbox support simply went over what id already done. Anyone else get this issue and figure it out?

y'know, i had that problem on two occasions (2 different xboxes at different houses) and both times it was fixed by turning the 360 'off' and then 'on again'. Other than that, i've been following http://www.hyper.com.au/forums/showthread.php?t=18900

So last night I went to fire up GH World Tour, put in the disc and it said "Play DVD" which was odd. I fired it up anyway and it said "Please play this disc in an Xbox 360" which was even stranger considering IT WAS IN AN XBOX 360.
I ejected the disc and put it back in and it all worked fine. Tried a few different discs and they all worked fine too.
Is it a minor hiccup? Has this happened to anyone else?
Why do I get the feeling that this is the beginning of the end? Again?

Coincidentally, I fired up GHWT last week for the first time in about 6 months and it didn't want to read the disc first try either (didn't read that there was a disc in the tray at all). Ejected it and then it worked fine. I wouldn't worry.

**** that piece of shit console. My first Elite had a dead disc drive out of the box.
Since I got it repaired from RRoD a couple of months ago it's still within the 'fix anything' warranty until the 21st, so I might hammer a few discs through it to kill the drive for good so I can send it in... again ... to get it repaired
Then I might sell off most of my games, I'm done with this shit.

I had that issue with Batman a few days ago.
Ejected, inserted again, all good.
Then my 360 totally graphicially glitched and RRoD, it's ****ed.
Opening it twice now, replaced the thermal paste, cleaned up all the dust, only the towel trick brings it back to life and that isn't lasting.
My launch model 360 is nearly dead.
Mine had an RRoD earlier today and recovered, but has now RRoD'd again.

I finally get my X360 off my gf, I hook it all up and then press the power button.
Of course I'm greeted with the Red Ring Of Death. I proceed to turn it off and on a few times with the same results. Left it alone for a while and tried again. Shockingly it worked but than my controllers wouldn't sync up to it. Off and on it went again and my controllers synced up, finally started downloading some games I wanted to play.
Woke up this morning to see my X360 had frozen. Turned it off and on a few times and every time it froze. Finally it worked and I tried out the trial of that kung fu game, at the load screen it proceeded to freeze again.

I only get that with one disc, Ridge Racer 6, which I bought pre-owned a few weeks back.
I haven't had any dramas with anything else I've played since; NFS Shift (new), Test Drive Unlimited (pre-owned), Just Cause (pre-owned), Blazing Angels (pre-owned).

This is a good question. You see if it goes to MS then you know you're getting a refurb with fixed cooling, or a new unit. Take it to GAME and you could be getting a 2yo Arcade unit for all you know! But I guess if you've paid for it (the extended warranty) then you might as well use it. That said, when my Xbrick inevitably died I too got the E74*, and this particular error falls under the 3yr RRoD warranty they gave us all.
*E74 means that the video card has failed, just for reference.

Leave it on for a while, it will E74 before ya know it. Send to MS and then sell on ebay or whatever. Think i saw the Arcade for $298 in BigW versus the Elite with a couple of games (Halo ODST & 007 QoS) for $398. Yeah I think I'll get an Elite. How does getting my gamerscore and savegames and xbla games over onto the new hardrive work?
Stevorooni
23-10-2009, 06:48 PM
Once you get the Elite I think you can ring Microsoft so that they will send you a transfer cable to copy everything from the 20gig to the 120gig drive. I've never done that (my Elite was my first 360) but others here would be able to tell you more about it

Ok so I have one of the first models of 360, one of the 20gb Pro's. Never had a problem with it before but it just RROD. Will be out of warranty by now. Worth getting fixed?
Just give them a call. Mine was out of warranty and they did it for free and gave me 3 month live code.

It's as simple as that really. Once you have your Elite, give the support line a call. They'll register it for you and send you out a transfer cable and disc.

Okay then, so I noticed that my 360 "The Darkness" game has a big old massive gouge in it. I have not put it in the machine for months, and only noticed it now - it obviously happened months ago when my 360 crapped out then got repaired.
Any idea where I can send the game to? Microsoft or the game publisher? I don't expect anything but seeing as it's a bloody coaster at the moment, I may as well send it somewhere with a picture of an angry skull poster attached to it.
Guess I better buy this one PS3 rather than risk having it kill my xbox again.
I like my 360, and wish it a long life - but if it dies, I may just replace some of my game on PS3 etc.
Figure I may as well get Fallout 3 GOTY Edition on PS3 rather than risk playing if for months and then have it get damaged when the Xbox 360 inevitably sprouts its fangs again.
"Velcome, I might just take a byte out of you, ah ah ah"
I got my xbox back today. It took them less time then i expected only about 2 weeks and the best part is they have put 2 copys of there generic letter they send every one that has the 3 month card attatched meaning i got 2 cards. 6 months free live

My brother's Xbox appears to be on teh skitz. Namely the disc drive. He said repairs might cost around $120US - more worthwhile in getting a new console? Or does anyone know of any cheap repairs?
Starscream

$120 US?
So it's out of the normal 12 month warranty period? I'd force it to RROD.

Play a game with all the ventilation holes covered over with books or cardboard

Make sure it's a game you don't like just in case the console decides to die with all guns blazing
I'm getting a bit worried. My 360 won't load Halo 3 singleplayer maps and wouldn't install the game to the hard drive, so I assumed it was my disc. Now I try to reinstall SF4 and it says my disc is scratched. Hope it's not my laser, but I assume it is :(

I've arranged a repair through the website. I'm waiting for my confirmation email.
I hope the turn around time is quick, I go on holidays from the 11th.

So certain windows in xbox live won't open up. I can't get into the facebook page, the friends page, the messages page, or pretty much anything to do with xbox live, though I can still compare games. A grey square will open up, as if the window is going to open, but then insantly closes again. Has anyone heard of this problem before?

I had my first RROD about two weeks ago. I've only had the thing about a month. Laz told me this isn't a good sign, then I told him I'd been playing GTA for about 12 hours that day. That would explain it, methinks. I'm kind of proud...I feel like I've been accepted into a...not-so-exclusive group of 360 users. Good news is it hasn't happened since.

It was pretty much straight out of the box when it RROD'd, I can't think of anything I might have done to trigger it, it's in a well ventilated area...Unless it was sent defective, which is much more likely.

The length of time you play probably does have some effect, but that doesn't mean you should completely avoid playing it on a hot day. I've had mine running non stop for longer than that without issue (prior to eventual RRoD). Also, not everyone gets the "warning" RRoD, I know I didn't. Got major artifacts on the screen, reset her and then BAM, E74.
Finally, make sure it actually is an RRoD, not the far less dangerous but similar-looking "loose video cable" error.

Still haven't used it, I think my subscription expires very soon (or maybe it already has!) so I might stick to silver until my holidays start then use my 48hour card I got with MW2 then my 1 Month card then eventually buy another year's worth

I got my 360 back today. It was a replacement Falcon unit.
I had to reinstall the games that I had saved to the HDD. Unfortunately, I inadvertently deleted the whole folder for most of the games, so I lost all my progress so far for Assassins Creed 2 (~12 hours). More frustratingly I also deleted my finished game for Mass Effect.

So on Christmas day my Xbox fell on its side and afterwards when I booted it up I got an error E68, which it turns out is a hard drive related error. When I moved house last, I was setting up my 360 and didn't properly click in the hard drive and it fell out onto the tile floor and broke. Managed to get a new 20gig hard drive from ebay for $60 but I still lost all my save games. :(
TrinityJayOne
22-01-2010, 03:56 PM
You paid $60 for a TWENTY GB HDD?! OFF EBAY?!?!?! I made myself a 120GB drive for less cost than that. Surely there were cheaper options available on ebay!
What about the HDD actually broke? The plastic case or the actual drive inside? Cos if the drive is fine I could easily transplant the drive into the new, undamaged case and you could retain your saves. Of course for a 20GB drive it hardly seems worth it, cos I'm in Victoria and wouldn't be paying postage for you, plus for the same cost you could probably find your own set of Torx screwdrivers and do the swap yourself.
But yeah, $60? Not even Microsoft would charge that much, you got shafted. Hard.

Just posting this again for anyone picking up Call of Juarez 2 on 360, be sure to pause the game during play and go into options, and if it does not crash, then everything is okay. Yeah it's my machine, but I'm sure other machines will have similar problems.
Okay so I bought Call of Juarez 2 on x360 and it freezes EVERY time you in to the options menu from in-game.
Took it back and the same happens again, so it's my machine. But it's been serviced once and ALL my other games are working fine.
Just wanted to warn some people that you have troubles with Call of Juarez on 360, I'll be buying more and more of my new(ish) games on PS3 from now on.

My xbox 360 ethernet port is stuffed. I have two options: 1) buy a wireless adapter and 2) wireless router or buy an arcade unit and put my 120 gb harddrive on that and sell the other one on ebay with my old 20gb harddrive.
Depending on how much I can get an arcade for 2) might be a cheaper option.

My understanding of the warranty is that it doesn't reset (you don't get another 12 months) from when you get your console back.
Standard 12 months and 3 years on RROD & E74 from the day you bought it.
Your warranty details should be registered on xbox.com.
