I'd buy Breaking Bad, but it'd $40 for seven episodes.

It's still the equivilant of about three movies! In any case it's so good it could cost $120 and I'd still recommend it, but I suppose it will eventually drop during a sale (at which point you'll have no excuse).

Like WhyMe, I abused JB Hi-Fi's "Buy 2, get 1 free" sale, and picked up the first four seasons of The Wire for $60 total.

Looking forward to it. 111 Hits has been running Homicide: Life On The Street, late at night, so I've been catching up with that to whet my appetite.

10th Anniversary Edition of The Matrix will be out soon on Blu-Ray. I think it may break my Blu-Ray virginhood - really considering ordering it even though I don't yet have a Blu-Ray player or a 1080p TV.

I don't care much for the other 2 Matrix films or the Anime. The first film is perfect stand-alone and is regarded by me as one of the best Sc-Fi films/concepts ever.

Minuit - Find Me Before I Die A Lonely Death.com (http://findmebeforeidiealonelydeath.com/)

Pendulum I bought for the DVD and was not disappointed - it's an epic concert. It's shot pretty well too, lots of cuts and funny angles but it fits the music and is good to watch while drinking or just have in the background.

Minuit is a New Zealand electronica band, I'm a pretty big fan and try to get to as many of their concerts as possible. The first single off their latest album is called 25 Bucks:

Desert Lights - Something for Kate
Strange Bird - Augie March
Of Someday Shambles - Jebediah

Three albums reccomended strongly to me by friends. I'm listening to Desert Lights now and it's pretty okay, though kind of...unremarkable, just kinda alt-pop stuff. I've got two other Augie March albums and really, really like them both, and I have been told by the people who reccomended the others to me (Sunset Studies and Watch Me Disappear) that this is their best so I'm saving that til last. My best mate from highschool is really into Jebediah but I dunno...I thought I'd give them a go since the album was $9 and he wants me to go to a live gig with him in october.

I don't know. I've not bothered to chase it up. It isn't that big a deal, everything else is working absolutely fine.

It is a rare issue that can happen to any BluRay disc, it isn't something The Watchmen is suffering in particular. Odds are almost 100% in your favour that you'll all be good.

I had a quick look and Amazon does have a solid returns policy. I could make use of that. *has a ponder*

They do but generally you have to send it back, like when Amazon sent me Vexille on DVD instead of bluray. I think they give you something to print out for free postage (maybe?). Couldn't be assed to go with the process since it'd be a month long wait

I've flicked through all of my special features on the 2nd disc and it seems to be working perfectly. I am using my PC bluray player though, not my Samsung BDP-1500 standalone (which I've heard has problems)

The Matrix movies all have stunning PQ&AQ, although the PQ on the original Matrix is not quite as good looking as the sequels (given its age, it has a somewhat soft yet detailed look) however still 3 steps ahead of the DVD version

The Smiths - The Queen is Dead.

I'm really liking this album especially after Meat is Murder which so felt like 'more of the same.' You can tell the band is trying new things and evolving into something different. The lyrics thanks to Morrissey range from thoughtful, to laugh out loud funny and thanks to his slow wavering voice (you either relish it or dispise it) you can clearly hear every line, it's the closest I've heard to poetry readings in a pop band.

Yeah, brilliant album. I've been listening to it non-stop for the past few months.

anyway, Shellac's At Action Park came for me in the mail yesterday. Good times.

GOt myself a copy of The Arctic Monkeys 'Humbug' last night. Had a couple of listens and have decided its flipping brilliant! Really different to their old stuff. Was slightly cautious due to reviews I have read saying its rubbish or its just a QOTSA album but with the Arctic Monkeys playing it but their so very wrong. The first group of people are the ones who just want it to be like the first album as they dont feel artists should evolve and the second lot have probably only listened to the two songs that sound like QOTSA. And even they dont really due to Turners lyrics.

5 star album imo.

UK (Region B) is only 7 pounds (AU$14) from Amazon.co.uk (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hellraiser-Blu-ray-Andrew-Robinson/dp/B001RNXYZW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1252416974&sr=8-1) and the US version (region free) is US$13.99 (http://www.amazon.com/Hellraiser-Blu-ray-Ashley-Laurence/dp/B001QMCJ00/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1252417072&sr=1-1)

Okay, so I've gone a bit Beatles nuts. I already owned all of those Beatles albums (except Past Masters for some reason) but the digital remasterings are sublime. Do yourselves a favour. Seriously, if you even a little bit into them - and you should be - this is the way these albums need to be heard (with the very occasional exception).

Abbey Road
The White Album
Past Masters
Let It Be
Revolver
Rubber Soul
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Help!
Glasvegas - Glasvegas
Walking on a Dream - Empire of the Sun

and finally got around to replacing my vinyl copy of

Born Sandy Devotional - The Triffids

Also picked up Season Ten of South Park.

Had a heap of people tell me that Battlestar Galactic (the new one, not the old one) was worth a watch, so I've been buying the DVDs. About a quarter of the way through season 2 and I'm liking that a lot more than the first season. It didn't help that, for some reason, the first season DVD set didn't include the pilot episode. I got a little confused when they're saying 'Previously on Battlestar Galactica' in what I thought was the first episode.

Lost in Translation. Looking for it locally on and off for around 4 years. Of all the places to find it, it was in my IGA.

Still the best opening shot in a movie ever. :P

Alright... with the appeal of Scarlet's rear end behind (teehee) me I've got to express my love for this film. Despite its slow and deliberate pacing it always remains and incredibly moving and engaging experience. Completely different in style but it reminds me of Amelie in some ways, there is a similar sense of 'wonder'.

Just wish people would stop trying to guess what was whispered at the film's conclusion.

Jay
29-10-2009, 09:18 AM
Surely you know what gets whispered Pres? Hang on, lean in... *whispers* Got it now? Good.

I love it as well, for its sense of dislocation, elegiac tone and odd pacing, for the things it doesn't make the characters do, and for being a love story without being a love story.

There's a big sale on at JB-Hi-fi and I picked up The Ultimate Zombie collection from Umbrella Entertainment for 15 bucks. One of the movies has a zombie fighting a shark so there's some win there.

God, Tokyo is such a beautiful looking city in my eyes. The cinematography was great. The musical score was great. Everything was great. All for $5!

The Wire - Season 1.

Been meaning to pick it up for some time now given the amazing reviews and presidential endorsement. To be honest I'm not going in with huge expectations, doesn't really look like my thing, I'm hoping to be surprised. Only 19.95 which is nice too. Bargain!

I grabbed the first four seasons around Christmas last year at $15 each. Best ****ing purchase I've ever made. You're in for a treat (though you have to give it a few episodes, and maybe even watch the first few with subtitles on - I'm not kidding).

I just bought Band of Brothers on Blu Ray for $50 and Season One of Breaking Bad for $20. :)

The definitive I'm assuming. It has two discs and comes in one of those fancy plastic deluxe sleeves.

I'm guessing it has something to do with the PORN video clip they made.

I was curious to find that it had a restriction label, I know the album art is a bit graphic and all but nothing overly offensive.

Yeah, it's a bit weird considering just about everyone who buys it won't even be able to understand the lyrics. The song about Fritzl (Wiener Blut) might have something to do with it.

The Gruen Transfer S1

Only ever caught 1 or 2 eps of season 2, and found them thoroughly enjoyable. I just never got into a regular viewing habit.

Having studied (albeit briefly) marketing and the psychology behind advertising as part of my design degree, I found this show thoroughly fascinating but the format also allows for it to be entertaining. I just wish the DVD hadn't separated the extended sections from the main episodes. Just meant I had to re-watch large parts of segments over again.

I'll have to grab season 2 tomorrow.

I really, really don't get all the Goliath hate. The best songs on Octahedron have nothing on anything from The Bedlam In Goliath.

But you don't appear to be a "ALL I WANT IS ANOTHER DE-LOUSED" nob. So you get points in my book for that.
