I thought Dead Eye was implemented really well. I didn't really have a problem with Dead Eye level 2, you could still influence where the shots were placed and when the switch to Dead Eye level 3 was first made it felt like a change for the worse - of course, it wasn't long before it felt right.

I never encountered that problem, stop sucking.
Seriously though, you don't stick with Level 2 for that long, at least. You'll want to make visiting Landon Ricketts your first priority when you hit Mexico, Level 3 allows you to place shots yourself before firing them all off at once.

65 hours into Oblivion - going all 100 percent vampire up in this shit
It took me like eight hours to cure myself of that cluster****. I was kicked out of the Mages' Guild so I had to get back in with them and get the ingredients for the ex-witch. It was epic. Being a vampire is awesome, but I've ridded myself of it and settled down in my Cheyhindal house.
Playing a bit of Tiger Woods 10, because I didn't give it enough time when it came out and it's good for a bit of relaxing gameplay after the intensity of Black Ops.
****ing Sims 3, **** it all
Are things really that bad, TAT?
After the second hour I was ready to call it quits until I discovered Buy and Build modes ;__;

72 hours into another Oblivion playthrough and am on a serious alchemy addiction; mixing up super destructive poisons to dip my next arrow/sword with nearly 1000 damage over 30 seconds.
Love how you can name your own potions. Some of the names I've come up with are "**** off magic", "Assfinger", "Arse****", "Anal Death" and I named my first enchanted weapon "Penis".
It was funny when I put poison on my sword because it said on the screen "You have poisoned the Penis".
Love this game.

Then did little to back that up. Missions get more exciting than "ride horse for 5 minutes to 10 second shoot-up, MISSION COMPLETE" at some point, right?

Man, I just got tasked with retrieving a machine gun from some mines, 'Push the minecart forward, and when you go fast enough, you'll automatically jump onto the back of it'
"Okay, cool," I thought, "There's some potential good times here."
And then...nothing. The game does absolutely nothing with it. I shoot three guys, "Thanks for the help, see ya!"

It's an amazingly beautiful game on a phenomenal engine and they got the atmosphere just right but I always felt constrained for some reason; maybe it was the fact I had no real say in my character development apart from armour buffs.
And they can't really say the skill is in the combat because there is no real skill involved.
It's a fantastically polished game but for me, it got boring after ten hours.

This, but replace "Mexico" with "the rest". Except that grave digging freak - he was a laugh.
Playing Black-Ops mainly... The campaign has improved. It's fun, but not the best fps campaign I've played. The graphics are top notch. The games a little too fast paced all of the time for my liking. You're consistently dragged from one set piece to another, with no time for tension to accumulate or to appreciate the scenery and details. For me it feels as if the game is in fast-forward or something.

Currently playing through Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1.
Completed the game twice now (once normally and then once again with Super Sonic). Only have one achievement left now also after getting the Untouchable one yesterday, where you have to complete the last level without getting hit.
Also unlocked both Avatar items found in the game the other day, getting one of them took a ridiculous amount of time due to the fact that you have to replay the final boss to even get a shot at getting it.
Finding the game fun though, took a while to get used to the weird physics and sense of speed but now that I have the game has definitely surpassed my initial expectations.

Decided to get a bit further into Call of Duty: Black Ops' single player. Despite the fact that I'm really enjoying it, I have a few issues:
- Someone mentioned this before, but there's really no time to stop and have a peek around. Not that you would want to, really. Neither the locations nor the setpieces offer much of a visual treat (except Hong Kong, which is brilliant). Modern Warfare 2 not only offered me these amazing locations and setpieces, but it also gave me time to enjoy them. Shit falling out of the sky + heavy rain, I'm looking at you. The graphics are also, IMO, a step down from Modern Warfare 2 - particularly in the environmental modelling and the textures. That said, some of the character models do look brilliant.
- There are less arena-like confrontations and too many straight lines. I don't want to keep moving forward all the time. MW 2's single player, aside from being just plain brilliant, had plenty of big, open battles. It also encouraged you to change weapons more frequently, whereas Black Ops doesn't. Can't remember why it did, though.
- The 3D's tacked-on-at-the-endness is really obvious. Aspects of the game like rainy puddles don't sit right, and there are issues when you go up close to something and it isn't sitting relative to your gun. That said, it's also really cool a lot of the time, especially when I was in the tunnel in Vietnam with the torch. Limited light + 3D looks amazing. The fact that the visuals drop in resolution also really stands out, which is a shame; it's going to be interesting to see how Killzone 3 and Crysis 2 go with the 3D, as they were built ground-up supporting it.
So, as much as I'm enjoying Black Ops - and I'm liking the multiplayer better this time around - the single player really just stands in MW2's shadow the whole time. Treyarch have definitely done a better job this time around, but they just don't seem to have the skill or artistic talent to match what Infinity Ward have done.
Hah, I wonder if even Infinity Ward still have the skill and artistic talent to match what they've done?

Yep, torched the bears on Death (I tamed it before the end of the game), gotta love having horses that are basically immune to damage. I did the same thing for the cougars. That method immediately came to mind because that's how I went about knifing cougars in the original game.

On PS3:
Played G1 Jockey 2008 at a mates earlier on and all I can say is WTF, controls are weird regardless which setting you use and you get beat all the time unless you edit a horse and make it the best at everything (which defeats the purpose I know).
Gave Cricket 2010 a go as well and the likeness of players is pretty much spot on, Easy difficulty is well so easy it isn't funny, one could easily rack up at least 500 in a T20 game. Simulating doesn't let you get any trophies, achievements, etc either. So if you want to get one of those then you need to bat and bowl, which will suck if you are not good at bowling.

Up to Chapter 10 Part 1 in Lords of Shadow, pretty good game so far. Let down that there is no control on the camera as it likes to move into weird spots at the wrong time, which is usually during boss fights or critical moments.
Would be nice if they had used the right thumbstick for camera control, definitely would make exploring that tad more comfortable instead of having to suffer with this camera that does the aformentioned stuff.

finished Lords of Shadow earlier this morning and the ending is interesting to say the least, sets up for a sequel easily and as long as they add in camera control it will be a good game.

I don't think they need camera control, they just need to get better at camera placement and having the camera track the action. God of War has proven that if you know what you're doing fixed camera angles work fine for action games of that ilk.
NetherWind
03-12-2010, 05:11 PM
That is also viable option, just towards the end of the game the camera has this awesome ability of panning out or switching to another point of view at the wrong time and made jumps and other actions go pair shaped.

Anyone interested in Portal 2 should play Tag: The Power of Paint (https://www.digipen.edu/studentprojects/tag/). Just like Narbacular Drop, these students have been hired by Valve so you'll be seeing these paint mechanics pop up in the Portal 2. Like Portal, the game is short (about half an hour), requires a bit of coordination and reflexes, and ends just as it was starting to get interesting. Don't expect any story or interesting characters.

Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days
Combat is much improved compared to the original. Gunshots sound better but weapons are still a bit inaccurate. The cover system works better now as well. There are no grenades, instead, you can pick up and throw gas canisters and shoot them so they explode. You don't have to revive AI teammates anymore and you don't have to crawl around slowly waiting for a morphine hit when you are critically hit, you can get up straight away. I'm quite a fan of the handy-cam art style. The artifacts on the screen and distorted explosions make it feel like there's a hidden cameraman taking record of the events. However, sprinting makes the camera shake quite a lot and that might be disorienting to some. The game is quite short at around 4 hours or so. The setpieces are also not as quite interesting although fighting on highways and busy streets is quite cool. The first game had some awesome, Michael Mann inspired, setpieces (pretty much the only reason I enjoyed it) but here it's only just set in Shanghai. There is a lack of pacing so it just feels like you're just moving from one level to another. Fragile Alliance feels pretty repetitive so I didn't play much of that. Overall, Kane and Lynch 2 was better than expected (I expected it to be horrible) but it's basically a very short stock standard third-person shooter. If IO Interactive had released the first game with this engine (and remade the last third of the game), it would have been much better received.

I found this game to be really easy. Enemies don't throw grenades meaning you can sit in cover as long as you want and if you rush them down the AI loses the plot.

Rock Band Unplugged (PSP)
Been playing a lot of DJ Max Portable 2 lately (gotta order #3) and thought this would make a nice change from the ultra gay k-pop. At first I didn't like it, mainly the track switching. I'd rather be able to stick to one instrument.
Then I found two options; one that unlocks all the tracks (disables the ability to save though) and the other being Warm Up mode, where you can play through whole songs sticking to one instrument. Not making this an option available in the main mode is is a bit puzzling, but in the end I don't care. This game is for quick blasts, and I probably wont even touch the main mode.

Edwarb and I ventured into low-sec space to try and find some nice squishy bot pirates to kill. We were actually looking for a bot pirate battleship that we engaged night before last but didn't quite have enough firepower fitted to take down at the time (I was in a Moa assault cruiser and edwarb in a Carracal missle cruiser), keen to smash him with our new guns.
Anyway, jump into 0.4 sec space and I hear Edwarb say "oh no" about 2 seconds before I spot a **** off huge (player controlled, eep) battleship and all my systems are immobilised.
His heavy turrets had a bit of trouble targetting me but it only took three hits to vaporise my 10,000,000+ isk cruiser :( And I had shitty insurance :(

No, it really isn't.

Please recommend me some other games set in generic fantasy landscapes that are as immersive visually and aurally, and are open world. I'd love to play them.

aaaand Oblivions landscapes are fixed.
I also bought Metro 2033 only to find out it doesn't work on my current computer, which is disappointing.
I feel for you, dude. It's a great game.

I just completed the 'Whodunit?' quest in the Dark Brotherhood questline. Absolute brilliance.

I wanted to and responded to an advertisement that gave me the opportunity to explore "Ye Olde Britain", but safety was not guaranteed.

As per Steam's glorious sales, I picked up Bob Came (childish giggle) In Pieces, and Zombie Driver.
Played a little Bob Came In Pieces just now, and I kind of liked it. I'm not in a puzzle mood at this point in time, but it's interesting enough to stay installed on my computer.
Zombie Driver is just booting up, this will hopefully be decent.

I'm playing through Mass Effect 1 again, just about to hit Virmire so I'm near the end.
As much as I love Mass Effect 2, I think this is the better game.

Oblivion.
Ignoring the main quests for now, until I've levelled up a bit. Tried doing the first gate and got 4 rooms in till it was just too hard.
About half way through Shivering Isles, which I hadn't played before. Got some unique armour and weapons that I'll hold on to.

Nothing really caught my eye at work after AC:Brotherhood, so I decided to look into this Minecraft thing all the kids are yammering about. I'm ashamed I hadn't bothered with it until now; sky castles are the absolute best thing ever.
Oh, I also gave Octodad a whirl (and gushed at any customer stupid enough to stand in one place long enough about it) and am looking at maybe dipping into some Game Dev Story or Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. SUGGESTIONS!

Just started Halo 3: ODST. Initial impressions are: NATHAN FILLION <3
Seriously though, what's with the reliance on sniping? Any time I want to do awesome shit up close you have to wait till the ten billion snipers are dead, which only occurs after I walk through four boring stairs and corridors to get to balconies with the dropped sniping weapons. Or until there's only one big dude left, so there's nothing to kill me from fifty miles away as I dance around and slap him to death.
I've heard there's only six hours of it, which is good news. The hub world is awesome, but waaaaaay too dark. I want to appreciate it without the visor thingo on, and without raising my TV to maximum settings.

I still haven't finished ODST. I found it really difficult :/
Same. I should go back to it, but I found it far more difficult than any previous or subsequent Halo, and then my save got corrupted somehow and I couldn't be bothered revisiting.

Really? I found ODST the easiest to finish on Legendary.
ODST was far and away the easiest Halo of the series (at least with regards to Legendary).

I'm finding ODST on Heroic harder than Halo 3 on Legendary.
Also: **** the AI is shit. Retard 'teammates' who can't drive or shoot for shit.

You're entitled to your opinion despite it being very obviously wrong.
But this is you, so I shouldn't be surprised at all.

Hell yes fortunately the level 2 checkpoints were easily exploitable.
EDIT: Yeah it's not harder anymore. It was just the shit AI on level 2. It's getting quite easy now.

I've been meaning to go back and try finish ODST on legendary, did it on heroic without too much hassle.

I'm playing Enslaved and I think its OK. Up to the end of Chapter 5.
It looks good and the characters interact well but like Heavenly Sword it doesn't do anything interesting game play wise. I'll have to wait and see on the story.
I really enjoyed Enslaved, even the somewhat controversial ending.
I've gone back to Bad Company 2 and am tidying up the campaign. So much better than Black Ops.
The other thing I'm playing is Christmas Shopping 2010. Not as good as last year's version, and some of the boss levels are a bitch (namely my Dad atm), but nearly finished so that's good. Might be able to take it back under the 7 day returns policy if I'm lucky.

They need to patch Christmas Shopping 2010. Any time I enter a shop there's too many people and I lag like a bitch.
lol you guys
I finished Christmas Shopping 2010 about 3 weeks ago.

:) Also just finished, taking out the ex-girlfriend and Dad using my Borders powerup.
Now back to Bad Company 2.

Started playing Dead Space, it's incredibly unsettling at times. But the atmosphere in the game is amazing and is making me glued to the screen.

Plaything without shooting is a bullet is a bit more manageable on Modern Warfare 2 then it is on BLOPS. I'm up to the end of No Russian and so far I've only detonated a pack of C4 and used the grenade launcher once.
