Yes, I am kinda (read: extremely) cheating by using save states, but there's no way I could ever finish the game twice without them!

That's a prick of a game though (G&G). I finished it on the C64 back in the day, but my understanding is that that version was significantly easier than other versions.

I'm playing, and quite enjoying, The Conduit.

And over our holiday I played and finished Flower, which was utterly superb.

I found the Megadrive version fairly easy of Ghouls and Ghosts.

Still making my way thru Red Faction Guerrilla - having a bit of a hard time to play for more than 20/30 minutes at a time.

Hey, me too. :D

I've been going through all the side quests, pretty much done all of them and my party is all around level 85 or so. About to tackle that ultimate stupid hard optional boss that every JRPG seems to have in The Backyard. This should be fun.

You're way ahead of me then, I'm at the beginning of disc 4 (just got the Nautilus). I really liked disc 3 and the way the party was split up - very FFVI-like.

Really? I almost stopped playing on Disc 3, for the same reason you liked it, the split up party. The jumping storyline, locations and characters meant I had no idea what was going on, just got kinda lost and it turned into me just pushing ahead for the sake of getting to the next area, not because I was interested in the game. Plus the strategies I had for my entire party got screwed over by the split.

But disc 4 made me love the game again, so all good!

Juggling Red Faction: Guerrila and The Conduit atm, after finishing up Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (which for an obsessed Harry Potter fan had its moments amongst its minigame-infested run!)

I'm really loving Red Faction - it truly is an open-world game that I've fallen for...it must be the insatiable thirst for destruction the game draws out in me! It is really well paced too - just when you think things are about to get try, the whole area is being bombed and you're dashing through the township to save people, and the next minute you're shitting your pants as you sneak through a bandit's hideout, carefully looking around every corner rather than blowing it up. It truly is an awesome game!

I'm also enjoying The Conduit (though certainly not as much as the above :D), primarily because it is just so satisfying to play and control. The level design is repetitive (though I did enjoy the last level I played, wiping out eggs in some congress library), and it can be ****ing difficult (on the third level (?) at the end you had to wipe out four conduits before getting picked up by a copter...I had to turn the difficulty down ~ it was impossible. The graphics aren't that special, either (bar some of the character models) though they certainly have potential. They're pretty damn blurry, and don't match up to the likes of Geist, which looks absolutely gorgeous when it runs in 60 fps (not too often :/). Overall I'm definitely enjoying it though, and I can't wait to see what they do with a sequel - just don't go in with high expectations, expecting the next Killzone 2 :p

Ha, ironically I thought the game was quite a bore in the 1st disc and the majority of the 2nd (god I hated the Black Cave), but I'm genuinely interested in the story now and I'm expecting a good finish!

Go to google and type nitrohaul flash game, have fun on level 1 trying to beat 9800, its not easy because the explosive crates are sensitive as hell to any nasty bumps and high drops. Other than that addictive game, TF2 mainly. Sniper's suck, i just dont like them at all, first of all, the ranged projectile, arrows, are slow to reach the target, bullets on the other hand are an instant hit on the enemy, shame the red/blue dot gives away your position.

Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition

Tbh I'm wishing that I had a 360 controller to use instead of the keyboard & mouse (there's no support for standard USB controllers!). The controls seem to be pretty scattered around and for some reason it has a very hard time detecting my mouse clicks when trying to choose lines of dialogue plus the inventory seems kind of hidden

Nice graphics but I'm finding the constant bobbing heads (in 3 frames) in HD makes me feel a little sick simply because it stands out so much whilst everything else is smooth. Good game though

I liked how everytime you tried to sell the rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle to somebody they'd say they've already got one :D I thought that the item would never be used, like the panties from Broken Sword 2 but as soon as the particular puzzle came along I knew exactly what I had to do. Same goes for the clever underwater trick which apparently stumps a lot of players, it only took me 3 tries to get myself out of the water and I was back up within 30 seconds :)

The funniest moment has to be that offscreen fight that was going on! Awesome!
"Use gopher repellent on...gopher. Use gopher repellent on....herde of gophers. Pick up...Heavy Chair. Use Heavy Chair with... Sheriff" ToMI tried to do a similar thing but wasn't very creative

Here's a few samples for you :p

Bronze: Consult Your Physician - Play for over 10 hours without stopping.

Just a bronze?!

Who Wants to be a Milliondamagaire - Do over 1,000,000 damage.

100,000,000 Damage Pyramid - Do over 100,000,000 damage.

Item Warrior - Beat floors 1 to 100 in an Item World without exiting.

Again, all bronze trophies :p

But here's the real kicker...

The Ten Billion Damage Man - Do over 10,000,000,000 damage.

That's a gold, thankfully.

I'm in Falls Creek at the moment and some bar here has a cabinet that either has mame running or some kind of pirated board. Because it has 1229 different games on it. Only had a few coins, but I played a bit of DonPachi, Contra and Rastan Saga, plus me and my friend tried to have a game of Karnov's Revenge but then the machine messed up. :P

On the way here I stopped in some town called Wangeratta or something and their cinema has some nice machines (like Raiden). Played some KoF 98' but the monitor was heaps messed up and it was hard to see what was going on. Enjoyed some Time Crisis game with a friend. Oh and I have a 10+ hour car trip tomorrow so I will probably work on Contra 4. Or possibly the Game Boy version of R-Type, but I don't want to spoil the arcade version.

Also I was playing Solar Striker and Nemesis (both on Game Boy) but I 1CC'd and 1LC'd them. (Where the hell is the games you finished thread? Or heaps of threads for that matter.)

Children Of Mana

It's a flat out dungeon crawler, and I'm okay with that, just like with Diablo and similiar games, I am a stat whore and get enjoyment out of seeing the numbers on my character sheet get higher and higher. Although there's only four weapons and magic seems a bit useless, the action is still paced perfectly to be frantic but fun, and whacking things with my hammer and seeing them fly over the screen is pretty fun.

Yeah as fun as having a mech fighting by your side is, it does make that last battle quite unexciting. I suspect it was probably the lack of some sort of epic boss at the end that was the let down.

Currently trying to finish off Prince of Persia 2008 after not being able to get on my PC to play anything for a few months. It happened to be the first desktop shortcut I double clicked that actually ran without the disc in the drive. Before I started back in again I'd cleared nearly half the game so every night, or couple of nights, I've been polishing off one or two areas. I must say that in these short bursts I've been having quite a bit of fun with the game as it's quite cruisy to play and looks beautiful.

On the weekend I also picked up Civilization IV along with its two expansion packs in some complete edition thing that was on sale at EBGames. Anyone who knows Civilization can tell where this is going... Last three nights in a row I've been up well past midnight playing just 'one more bloody turn' but I'll be damned if I care. I've never been one for strategy games but I bought it on a whim to see what all the fuss was about (plus it was kinda cheap) and I'll be damned if you don't call it brilliant.

One of the gems in my collection I've been getting into lately. Originally bought it for my wife (along with Yoshi Touch and Go) that I've found immensely fun.

Yeah I was surprised with it myself. I got it for my birthday and I decided to give it a shot after it sitting on the shelf collecting dust and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

I've also become addicted to Tetris once again >.>

Using the drum kit. Oh god, I'm so horrible at it! :( Nothing feels natural since I've never used it before, I see the notes but only 1 hand registers. Also gotta figure out how I'm supposed to hold them, I tried loose but that made them vibrate so now I'm kinda gripping them for more precise movement

AranchineD
23-07-2009, 07:26 PM
Yeah, you have to hold them just tight enough so that the sticks don't vibrate in your hands, but not so tight so that your entire arms take the force of the stick hitting the pads, because it tires you out easier and just plain hurts.

Just don't try and 'force' your hands to how you think they're supposed to hold the sticks though, after a bit of playing you'll just find way that feels comfortable and works well anyway.

Just killed The Immortal in Lost Odyssey, which was a complete bitch, took at least half an hour of battling to get him down, and I did it with 5 hp spread across the last three surviving party members! Seriously, bosses should not have moves that reduce the hp of your party members to <200 hp no matter what health they're on or what protections they have.

Fortunately being able to do 19998 damage every turn got rid of that 200k hit point bastard fairly quickly. >_>

I take it that is disc 4 aran? Looks like I have some challenges ahead when I get around to working on Lost Odyssey again. Still playing through SMT: Devil Survivor on DS and loving it, order it now ppl. Definitely a must have for RPG fans. I think it revolves around a 7 day time period, but you can grind your demon levels up with free battles and it doesn't move time forward. Also needing to get new demons and/or fuse new demons becomes a top priority after day 2/3, if you don't then expect to get your ass kicked even in free battles.

I'm currently rowing a boat somewhere, which I am actually finding a little bit flat. Certainly not as fun as sending a veritable hailstorm of midget minions to dismember a gaggle of stupified onlookers.

One other thing I have noticed though is that the visual design is somewhat annoying. I'm not sure if it's the mix of colours, or style, or numbers on screen, or camera angle, or what, but at times I find myself almost squinting at the screen trying to figure out exactly what is going on, despite the fact that I am sitting only a few feet away from a 46 inch Bravia. This is something that I also noticed with Fable 2 at times.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic

This game is quite enjoyable actually. I've only played about half an hour of it. The main problem is I find that powerstrikes are too underpowered. It seems you're better off mashing the left mouse button or using the environment and spells. Personally, I think I prefer Age of Chivalry's combat to this. AOC is much more visceral and rewarding and blocking and timing are more important due to the slow nature of the attacks. I think there's more variety in melee as well.

But anyway, there's little else I can fault with Dark Messiah. The opening level after the tutorial was quite spectacular. It probably would have been better if it was the tutorial instead. The spells are fun to use and you gotta love kicking dudes into the spikes. Atmosphere is very nice. I have a feeling I will enjoy it a whole lot more when the combat options open up.

I'm so close to the end of Red Faction: Guerrilla and I must say again as a non-fan of open world games this has blown my expectations off the planet! I must be secretly obsessed with destruction or something, because I can just sit there, and love it, and play it for hours upon hours on end!

Why is this game not repetitive? Is it because I don't do the weaker guerrilla missions like demolitions or transporter? Is it because there have only been about 7 shitty cutscenes in 10 hours, which is an awesome lame story cutscene to gameplay ratio? Is it because I just got a freaking jetpack and it is BRILLIANT? Is it because I completed this "kill the seven business associates" mission while they were on a meeting by blowing the building up rather than picking them off one by one? Who knows! I'm just so glad I picked this game up <3

You should definitely go back and do the demolitions missions when you're done, they're one of the best type of side mission. Each one plays out like it's own puzzle, all resulting in blowing buildings up strategically :) .

I've been playing some Street Fighter IV along with a little more Splosion Man which is awesome. Splosion man himself is such a cool character, love his run animations especially when he's pretending he's flying :D . The game itself plays like sonic with more explosions and humour. I could not play for more than 30/40 minutes in a session. I ended up getting a bit too sidetracked if I was to stay on for over an hour - not that I found it boring but got a bit inundated with options.

Towards the end I avoided the transporter missions.

The last mission involves a lot of sticking and moving. Try not to get too caught up on clearing a path and just try to ram thru and steal other vehicles.

I'm digging Red Faction too.

The sheer amount of respawning baddies is frustrating to no end, I always feel like I'm taking bullets to the back and it's near impossible to find an non-occupied space to relax and let your health get back up, oh and don't even get me started on those power attacks that send your car into a spin.

Aside from that I truely addicted to this game and this is saying something as I only seriously get sucked into a game 3 or 4 times a year these days, sure I'll play more than that, but that need to play like the need to love is something quite rare these days.

Blowing stuff up is so much fun, hurling a truck into a guardhouse and top speed, watching the walls crumble around you, strapping a few charges to it, switch to the sledgehammer to break the spine of a guard that isn't wedged in the trucks grill, jet packing off into the the sunset as I detonate the charges!

I haven't got a problem with the grinding, maybe I'm a boring human being, but going off and taking a car, or breaking free a friend to improve my community moral really appeals to my love of numbers and stats and there's nothing boring about the destroying missions. :)

I didn't buy it though being a poor Uni student I've just rented it three times, costing a total of $15 thanks to cheap Tuesdays.

Absolutely phenomenal driving/racing game for something released in 1997. I was expecting to find the driving engine really basic, but I'm blown away by how good it all still feels. Sure, the graphics are horribly, horribly pixelated but I've seriously played new racing games that I've found less compelling.

Totally worth the $16 I had to pay for a PS1 1mb memory card to play it.

Playing Phoenix Wright Trials and Tribulations, on the second case at the moment.
Admittedly the twist did take me by surprise and here I was thinking
1)okay, this case was way too easy
2)This must be the first case that didn't involve a murder

Atelier Iris : Eternal Mana - I really love the characters and humours of this rpg and the old school pixel art is pretty damn sweet. A little on the easy side but refreshingly pleasurable to play. I purchased the sequels recently off ebay, though my next game will probably be Gothic on PC as I purchased the box set. Then again, I really want to start Breath of Fire 4 which I picked up at Gametraders a few days ago.....

For the first time in quite a while I'm finding myself jumping between a number of different games. SW:TFU, Overlord 2, 'Splosion Man, GH:M (drums), even Lips has had a bit of a workout. Plus I still have MvC2 and Monkey Island that require a little more than merely ten minutes of my time.

Basically, since I fnished with Fallout 3 games have had a hard time maintaining my interest for big chunks of time.

I've been playing a few X-Men games lately. First I finished X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse on SNES (with save states because I'm soft). The game was awesome, felt like classic side-scrolling beat-em-ups like Final Fight or SoR with a bit of simple platforming in the mix. Now I am currently playing X-Men 2: Clone Wars on the Mega Drive (again, save states. It's hard.). So far it is pretty good, not as good as the SNES one though. In the Snes one all of the characters were fun to play but in this I find myself always picking Wolverine (and sometimes Magneto) because the rest are quite boring. Great games though.

Do you have LIVE? I'm slogging through it right now (only in the early levels) and it's a bit of a chore by yourself. There are some enjoyable fights but ultimately it is poorly paced and relatively frustrating, especially thanks to the appallingly shit AI exhibited by your useless teammates :/ Playing with someone else would alleviate this frustration immensely.

No, no I don't. But as I posted on another forum, I'm actually finding it really enjoyable, but only playing on Heroic for my first playthrough, and it's easy as piss so I haven't really found anything frustrating (though I suspect I probably will on Legendary >_>)

Argh, well I suck balls/have interesting tastes then (what's news?). I'm playing it through on Heroic also, and my teammates die pretty much instantly, leaving me to drive and shoot by myself through the levels ;_; (This relates to only one level so far, but I'm sure it'll happen again >_>).

Well I play Rambo style anyway so I pretty much end up killing everyone before the AI dudes get a chance to die (and then they complain about me stealing their kills >_>).

But, well, something happened while playing the game that happened in all the other Halo games to completely change my opinion of the game: I got up to the Flood levels. :(

Yeah it's awesome. I've had three games and it is a huge improvement over Madden 09 already. Slowing the gameplay down was a stroke of genius, everything feels much more deliberate now. You can pick out the holes in the coverage and blocking during the play easier now as well and it makes everything feel smoother and more realistic.

Running the ball actually works this year! It was so hard in 09 to actually be able to have a consistant running game but in 10 if you put the time in it pays off. Passing also feels a lot better, which no where near as many stupid catches or glitches by the computer where they will gain a massive burst of speed and pick off/tip your pass.

Graphics are top notch (as always) but where it goes over the top this year is presentation. It feels like you are watching an NFL broadcast. The stat overlays, mini-fact sheets and yes even advertising all feels very authentic. Commentary is still a bit of a let down though.

Is it out at JB yet? I've been hanging for this for months now - can't wait to crack into franchise mode and madden moments. Already sunk a few hours into the demo and, like you mentioned, I'm loving the more realistic gameplay and much improved running game (Brandon Jacobs can finally crack heads like his real-life persona ;)). Can't wait to take my Packers to the 'Bowl.

In my first game I ended up being down 35-7 to the Panthers (I play as Philadelphia) before staging an awesome second half comeback and winning. Then in the second game against the Saints it was 10-all at halftime but McNabb tore his pectoral muscle and is gone for the year.

So now I'm making do with Kevin Kolb but my passing attack is nowhere near as potent so Westbrook is getting a lot more rushing. I am currently undefeated (5-0) but not thanks to throwing the ball. I'm playing on All-Pro and will probably up it to All-Madden in my second season.

Shit, injuries now take out players for up to a year? That's fantastic and crazy at the same time. I remember sustaining various injuries with Rodgers over the course of the season in '09 (I tried to turn him into a rushing QB :p) and I think the longest he was playing injured was a couple of quarters max.

And yeah, Kolb sucks badly. I'd be testing the free agency quick-smart if still possible. ;)

Doing my Legendary run of the Halo 3 campaign while simultaneously trying to get all the Campaign scoring achievements.

And despite the fact, as you can see in the game rage thread, THAT I ****ING HAD JACKAL SNIPERS, I'm still enjoying it, and with constantly using the Plasma Pistol + Battle Rifle/Carbine combo for maximum points getting those achievements is proving fairly easy even without getting the time bonus or using any skulls.

Nah he's alright. It's weird for me not using a QB who is considered top 5 in the league (had McNabb for every Madden I've played) so it's a cool new experience. I am currently undefeated (7-0) but there have been some very close ones including an OT where I blocked a field goal. But my passing offense is 31st in the league, where as my rushing offense is third in the league (<3 Westbrook) which is a stark contrast for the Eagles.

Wipeout HD: Trying to complete the campaign on Elite difficulty as well as try every now and then for the Zone Zeus achievement. Freaking impossible.

Killzone 2: Trying to churn through this also on Elite difficulty. Last mission! I'm a feelin' that Gold trophy coming up!

Final Fantasy VII: Just got to that strange Oriental town. Planeboat is awesome :)

Surprised Westbrook hasn't gone down with an injury yet. If the game is realistic, he's not going to last much longer. :p

I'm still having a bit of trouble adjusting to the slower speed of the game - so used to just stepping back on play action and hurling a fifty yard bomb... That said, I'm loving how the 'pocket' actually works like the real thing now.

Have you given madden moments much of a whirl yet? I cracked into it straight away and have managed to knock off the first ten or so challenges already, but I'm a bit annoyed that they haven't fixed the structure (still have to pass all five challenges before the next set opens). The punt returns are ****ing brutal.

I've only had a look at them. I have been meaning to play a few but whenever I boot the game up I jump into franchise. How do you like all the new presentation? Some of it is a little sloppy (mostly the Extra Point commentary) but overall I think the game looks the part.

All-Pro is seeming a little too easy now so I may step it up to All-Madden soon, I just blew out the Bears 53-21 and picked off Cutler six times :D.

I played some more of the side quests in Final Fantasy A2 today, i've played the game for 74 hours now.... This game is huge for a ds title, i'd reccomend anyone buy it if they are a fan of turn based strategy. I already feel like i've gotten my moneys worth from the game, the characters are likeable, especially the characters that arent story characters, the music is nice, my only downside is that in some peoples opinion's on pokemon Pearl/Diamonds speed in doing your move through battles, it can get a little slow there. I was trying to play it up to the 80 hour mark, but i fell asleep from the slow battle speed... Still a fantastic game apart from the rather slow combat animations.

Despite the graphics being old school ( this is a port from a playstation one game) it still has excellent art design and atmosphere. The characters and the storyline are fantastic as is the combat. Changing into dragon form never gets old and I love how you got to experience the perpective of that powerful dragon dude near the start who is bound to become either your main enemy or ally later on.
Ironically in the powerful form he was in, he was still not at 100 pecent strength, more like 30 percent as he just woke from his slumber. He's gonna be one hell of a bad-ass later on....
Sound effects and music is pretty good as is the pace of the gameplay.
Exploring is pretty cool in some areas such as the junkyard near the start of the game as it throws in a few environmental puzzles for fun. Overall 3 hours into it and absolutely loving it.

It appears to be new too, shiny disc and case. Sometimes when I have purchased games through gametraders ( not the whitfords store) supposedly new, the discs have been scratched, bonus discs missing and scratched cases.

Up to Phendrana Drifts in Metroid Prime, it really is a beautiful game, and I did stop and just admire what had happened when I got too close to one of those bomb dropping balls things and all I could see was Samus' reflection in the visor!

I would be completely happy with the game given the above if it didn't feel so...directionless. Perhaps consider me spoiled by Fusion, but at the moment I don't feel like I'm doing anything meaningful or working towards anything significant, even having read the scans about the artifacts and how I'm meant to save the planet from the phazon since I'm "the one" I just feel like I'm running around picking up power ups for the hell of it, it's getting kinda hard to get connected to the game.

It's all about the journey fella. For me that directionless was fantastic, and I was fully engaged throughout the main game.

Exploring the world and seeing all of it's flora and fauna and realising that you're all alone in this strange, and often beautiful world, is what made Prime such an amazing experience.

Look, the whole "you're alone in the world" thing I get, and like I said, I too was pretty amazed by the world that had been constructed, but there's no way that I can say that that's enough to keep me going for the entire time of the game.

But that won't be enough to keep me going for the entire playtime. It's like I'm going around picking up power ups for the sole reason of this being a Metroid game and that's what you're meant to do. There's a difference between being completely directionless, as I would describe this, and being able to completely explore the world at your whim while still having an idea of the final destination in mind.

In my Fusion comparison, that game managed to include picking up all the power ups and such as a real part of the story (not to mention that while having a clear direction of gameplay it also created an engaging atmosphere and setting, I could call it a 'beautiful world' too but not in the same way that you'd describe the one in Prime).

Of course I'm going to keep playing, but my motivation for doing so isn't very strong at the moment.

Fusion is probably my favourite Metroid game (but it was a touch too easy)

I haven't been as engrossed in sports game as I am with Madden 10 in a long, long time (probably not since Madden 05 on the Xbox). This game is almost the perfect sports simulation!

I'm loving it too, although the injuries system is frustrating random. I'll accept it when players take bone-crunching hits, but I was playing a game last night and Rodgers was barely touched yet received a fractured foot, out for ten weeks. **** that - restart game. :p

Have you played Echoes?
Some of the big bosses are downright vicious in that one. :(

Me thinks you'll enjoy Metroid Prime 3: Corruption more, judging by your comments.

I've been playing Codemasters' Ashes 09 on PC. Not very impressed so far. I don't know how to play a non straight bat shot and I got out bowled off a no ball. Also you can't save it in the middle of a test match.

Going to play through the tutorial now to see if there's a way to direct your shot.

EDIT: Worked out how to direct my shots. Game is now better.

Deadly Creatures.
Suprisingly better than I imagined it would be. Enjoying it despite its flaws. Definately worth picking up if you can find it for cheap.

I picked up Wolfenstien on the 360. I'm having some fun with it. It isn't the prettiest game around but there is some violence packed in here (shooting off limbs and the like) and the Veil powers are pretty cool (bullet time, etc).

I haven't tried the multi but I've heard it's a bit average.

Playing Super Mario DS atm.

I like how they've made some minor, minor changes that make it less frustrating but it's a nightmare trying to control properly during the "slide" parts.

Thats the price people pay for wanting a portable Super Mario 64 way back in 2004ish.

Started The Darkness on 360

Solid but not in the league of other console FPS (Bioshock,CoD4)

Although I haven't had a play with a lot of the darkness powers yet and its been pretty linear so far so I'm hoping it will open up later on.

Finished it a few weeks ago. You can't compare The Darkness to CoD4, but I thought it was on a par with BioShock. The story was fantastic (possibly the best acting I've seen in any game) and it was very well presented. And it's great value too.

I went back to Viking last night, and I finally figured out how to command my army! (by pressing A!!!)
I love the simplicity of it, brutal violence...and, more violence. It's like LoTR with more balls. Lovin' it.

Sneaky bump. Now that I've played this it's a bit better. There's a few little bugs but it's not too bad.

To answer your question: Super International Cricket on SNES. But Codemasters aren't so bad, much better than the turds that EA put out.

One of the let downs for the EA cricket games is that they did allow you to move the batter down the pitch, only across the popping crease. I do remember one of them on my pc that allowed me to move all over the pitch, so I could effectively move down to just over halfway and get a no ball each delivery and rack up huge scores.

I do that in super internation cricket, but instead of no-balls I hook shot most balls for 6.
