If you're looking for action, you're going to be disappointed :p If you enjoy boob physics + every fan service you can think of you might enjoy it more. I found the first couple of eps alright & then it just got boring when nothing really happened. Its watchable but Dead Rising/Left4Dead this aint
Watching Darker than Black atm, never seen it before, halfway through ep1. Seems alright, the animation is decent at least

Went 0-4 on the saturday (had bad luck), but went 3-1 on the sunday just missing out on top 4. Both days was with the P4 trial deck. Ironically actually learning the second ability on the Yosuke counter card made a massive difference. My friend's brother actually made 4th on the Sunday with the Fate/stay trial deck.

Just watched ep 8 of HOTD and while this series has had some stylised action/violence wtf was with the scenes towards the end of this? When Komuro was shooting Rei's gun while lying over her and the bullets were flying...my only thought was wtf were the director and animators thinking with this scene.

Satoshi Kon dies, age 47. (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-08-24/award-winning-director-satoshi-kon-passes-away)
This is tragic news. Kon was easily the most important anime director of the past decade. His films included Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers and Paprika. He also directed the very excellent series Paranoia Agent.
This is a huge loss for the anime world.

Ouch, not another famous person :( Such an important figure too who broke the barrier on how anime can be perceived by people
I'm watching Broken Blade ep1 atm, the production values is mind-blowing! Feels like I'm watching an anime movie on a larger scale than Macross Plus & Full Metal Panic. Speaking of which thats what it reminds me of, a combination of those 2 besides the animation itself which just so happens to include giant mechas with Macross Plus outback scenery + a hint of Nadesico where things are controlled by a person's magical hand touch

Obviously you haven't seen Rosario to Vampire or Ladies Vs Butlers. Yeah HSotD is uneven but it's not nearly as bad as those two series. Mind you I'm yet to see episode 10 so I'm still unable to comment on the episode itself. Episode 9, on the other hand, I actually enjoyed because it continues to show how broken the main characters really are.
On the other hand I'm looking forward to To Aru majutsu no index 2 and Bakuman which start next month.

Evangelion 2.0 (spoilers galore):
Almost went into rage during the first minute, thinking they were showing the dubbed version. Calmed down once they started speaking nihongo lol
Impressed with the movie for the most part. VERY different from the events in the series, which was surprising since 1.0 was for the most part a shot-for-shot remake. The pacing and character development were still not very good, but I guess they tried.
Didn't like Mari, hopefully they'll explore her character in 3.0, but in this one she felt like Poochie in Itchy & Scratchy to me.
Disappointed that they left out one of my fav angel battles, and modified the other:

Sunday sale = Madman FAIL.
Couldn't help but laugh since they didn't learn from their 10th Anniversary sale.
All Madman had to do was to allow you to enter a code during checkout to have the DVD titles to the reduced price.

They did learn from their 10th Anniversary Sale. They added enough extra servers to handle 500% more than their normal traffic.

Over the last two days I've really been smashing through Ghost in the Shell (Been through the series once or twice before, first time watching it consecutively though :p). It's probably a bit late asking now seeing as I'm about 2/3 of the way through all the animated releases, but it might help when I inevitably watch it all again! :p
What is the recommended viewing order (if any)? From what I could gather from my quick search on the net it's meant to be: 1st movie -> 2nd movie -> 1st Series -> 2nd Series -> Solid State Society.
But I do recall reading awhile ago of it being a bit more staggered (Something like 1st Movie -> 1st Series -> 2nd Series -> 2nd Movie -> Solid State Society).
Thoughts?

I think the first two movies are set in a different universe compared to the series' (ie different continuity). So I guess the above should be right. Alternatively, it can also be 1st Series -> 2nd Series -> Solid State Society -> 1st movie -> 2nd movie.

The movies are in the same continuity as the manga. Standalone Complex is a different continuity.
The first movie is a retelling of parts of the manga, while the second movie is a whole-cloth sequel, although you could argue it follows on somewhat from Man-Machine Interface.

Yeah they could end it but I don't think they would. If anything I think there will be a time skip ala shippuden or what's just happened in one piece. They keep mentioning this place above soul society so they'll have to go there which will involve the usual training and all that shit.
Also he has to be able to come back. Look at ichigos dad. He obviously has used the final getsuga tenshou and has now got his shinigami powers back. They haven't explained what happened there, who he is, how he lost his powers, or anything really. They nicely set the whole thing up to continue.
FF Freak
21-10-2010, 01:08 PM
It's a possibility. I heard rumors that once this series of Bleach was over they'd be going onto Bleach 2 which would cover a European Soul Society and Shinigami but it was unconfirmed rumors.
It would be hard to see quite how a timeskip may work though as:
Ichigo lost his shinigami powers. Though Aizen being alive can link to that idea.
And as I don't read One piece I have no idea what's just happened there. But I've been interested in this place above Soul Society that they kept mentioning because it seemed a lot more important than the way it's been treated.

I started watching Level E. Only watched the first episode so far but it is an amusing and interesting enough sci-fi/ comedy. The concept reminds me a bit of Men in Black.

So anyway, in a move that can only be described as the most retarded move since ADV caved on the whole six-disc issue, K-On will be released as individual discs rather than a set. (http://www.rightstuf.com/cgi-bin/catalogmgr/8JmUr7O-9xti92sSMJ/browse/item/91103/4/0/0)
I honestly don't understand this at all. It's almost as though Bandai want this show to fail in the West.
It's a great show, sure, but when I can entire seasons worth of decent-quality TV for the same price, I don't really see why I should have to pay so much for just four episodes.

I'm only halfway through it, but it's pretty funny most of the time.
If you enjoyed FLCL you should like this, as it's also made by Gainax.

Just finished watching Trigun (Remastered) and I enjoyed it a lot. Some really good action sequences in it.
Also the new Bleach filler arc seems to be not too bad at the moment. Hopefully when they finish the arc up they don't go to self contained episodes like they did last filler arc. Also the opening is pretty cool.

Well, definitely been watching Hanasaku Iroha and it's been great. Other items I've kept my eyes on are Deadman Wonderland, My Ordinary Life, and Gosick which are pushing some great stuff. There's also Stein's Gate and Hidan no Aria.
Don't think Hidan will be anything that special, mostly just a time killer. Stein's Gate could turn out amazing or turn out to be absolutely awful depending on how it goes from this point. Have to wait and see.
Dropped hanasaku iroha after the third episode. That shit was just daft.
Tiger & Bunny is clearly show of the season. Ano Hana is good too.

The third episode. The first 2 set it up as a nice, slow slice-of-life show with nice animation and art.

So. Hunter X Hunter started up again a couple of weeks ago. Id forgotten how slow it can go.
Naruto has turned into an after thought. Nothing particularly good has happened recently, but nothing particularly bad either.
One Piece is still going slow as well.
All in all I haven't had much of a chance to catch up with anything else lately, (so much uni), but nothing new has really caught my eye.
What are people reading now days?
For awhile there I was really into some of the Korean Manwha (sp?). The Breaker, Aflame Inferno, Zero, Zero: Circle of Flow, Ares, Immortal Regis, Veritas, Cavalier of the Abyss, With Hunter, Ares, Nephilim John and a heap of others. I just found the stories and characters in the korean ones to be DIFFERENT to the typical Japanese shounen/seinen. Added a different feeling to it when I didn't have these preconceptions or whatever with what was going to happen.
Also a lot of the Korean ones actually have an ending. I got so sick of reading Japanese manga that just never had a ****ing ending. So much shit to read.

I tried to watch Bleach once way back when. I got up to the Bount (sp?) and it was just so so terrible that I couldn't watch anymore. I'm told it definitely improved after it, I was reading the manga so I know the story got better, but I just couldn't bring myself to sit through that particular filler arc.
Where's the anime up to actually? Because I stopped reading the manga at a certain point, but if the anime is past there then I might actually be able to force myself to catch up.

They got to the end of the whole Aizen part then went into filler. The current filler is ok. The anime got really close to the manga (roughly 20 chapters behind) so filler was required. I think the manga is roughly 40 chapters ahead.
nintendo

Hmm. I stopped just as it was getting into the new stuff after Aizen. It really just pissed me of with how bad it was. Im told its getting better but I think Ill just wait for the anime to cover it. It really soured me reading it.
They ended the Aizen stuff so well imo and I wish they'd just called it quits there.
EDIT: Also because of this thread it inspired me to go find where I stopped in Histories Strongest Disciple. Turns out Im almost 100 chapters behind but it shouldn't be too hard to catch up. Its not as if its War and Piece.
Anyone watching or read Fairytale btw? I started it when it began, got up to chap 125 (around there), and gave up. It just seemed like it was trying so hard to capture what made One Piece so good, but always ended up failing at making it interesting at all.

Just watched the first episode of Persona 4: The Animation.
My impressions:
- The character animation, whilst very sharp and detailed up close, it really lacking when depicting characters from a medium-to-long distance. Environments, on the other hand, are consistently gorgeous. Some of the shots made me feel like I was experiencing the PS2 game in HD.
- The first episode felt incredibly rushed! I guess it's going to be tough to fit everything into one series (alternatively, they wanted to get the story's orientation out of the way quickly?).
- Final Fantasy/Metal Gear series aside, Persona 4 is one of the few Japanese games which possessed an English voice track that I loved. It's really weird hearing them speak Japanese, especially Teddie. I hope they pick up the game's voice actors for the anime, so I can watch it again in English.
- THE SOUNDTRACK <3
- It's Persona 4! In animated form! PERSONA 4!!!
I can't wait to watch more it!

Just watched the first ep of persona 4. I have to agree with Nic on a number of things. There were a number of aspects of the animation where I felt like it was a bit low quality but otherwise it looked amazing. At the same time it's going to take a bit to get use to the Japanese voices as I loved the english dubbing of the game (probably a first).
However I must say the soundtrack is brilliant (even if it is just the game's for the most part) and all the little tributes to the game had me so hyped up and excited. If they keep the day changes though it may get a little annoying.
It's sad that the little animation problems may be the only thing currently that may stop this from toppling fate/Zero as my anime of the season. However both have only had 1 episode.

Just watched ep 3 of Persona 4 The Animation and I just feel that this series keeps on improving. While they still seem to lack on animation when portraying characters from a distance it's not quite as bad as ep 1. Interesting to see how well they've incorporated the change mechanic for the protagonist and I'm looking forward to seeing how they continue to use it.
Favourite line of the show so far: "I wish I recorded it." - Narukumi to Yosuke about Yukiko's midnight channel showing.

Well if you do watch em, let me know your thoughts. A new JB store opened up in my area (one that takes me only thirty minutes to drive to, instead of the usual ninety-plus minutes for the next nearest store) and I'm looking to pick up some of their anime shows, seeing as they have a few good in store specials that are better than their online prices.

Agreed on Sakamichi no Apollon, there's more content in a single episode then whole seasons of other modern anime. Last few episodes have been kinda moving. Having that & Tsuritama on the same day is something really nice I think.
With that said I recently watched Hannape Bazooka & Angel Cop and it reminded me of a time when I'd rent some ova on vhs without knowing anything about it & it'd always contain ultra violence, swearing (mostly due to an embellished dub), tits, tentacles etc. I swear I've seen it before but never in Japanese. Anyway it was difficult but I found a good 2 minutes of footage that wasn't nsfw to take some pics of:

When he uses his rape finger on the girl he likes but she thinks he's the professor she's been banging for grades, he snaps her out of it and she goes mental and starts choking him with those crazy eyes (2nd last pic) it's just the creepiest shit. There's something about a good sadistic smile that really ups that creep factor. I really wanted to post a pic of the jizzing-flower/re-birthing bit from the end but I think that might be pushing it a bit.
It was very nostalgic to watch. The closest thing I've found to that lately (creeped out faces) is this bit from Polar Bear Cafe, pretty amusing but would have freaked me out as a little kid for sure:
