Tool-assisted = fail.

What does that mean exactly?

StorminNorman
02-12-2009, 09:20 AM
It means that they used emulator techniques to freeze/reload the game until they got "perfect" runs of it.

Tool-assisted replays look awesome until you start noticing the slight glitches in them, and realise how mechanical and clinical they are.

Go to a retail shop and ask them to import it for me?

And why do you suggest this? Have you done this before?

EDIT: I'd rather the HRAP EX SE over the HRAP EX because of the Seimitsu parts already installed on the HRAP EX SE.

Modding a HRAP to take Seimitsu parts is fine. You don't need to change the stick, just the buttons. The buttons just pop out and have quick disconnect wires so you can just lever them off with a flat head screwdriver and push them on to the new buttons. The wires are even colour coded... seriously couldn't be easier.

When I got my HRAP 3 I had the old buttons out and the new buttons in within 20 minutes. Would have taken significantly less time except I didn't have a socket set on me meaning getting to some of the nuts was a pain in the arse with just a little spanner.

www.in2amusements.com.au - Has a pretty extensive range of button options and are Australian based so you'll get them nice and quick for minimal cost. I've not used them personally but know a few who have and have had no complaints.

If you can't find what you are specifically after you can always try www.lizardlick.com which I have used and can attest to the quality of their service.

In addition, going the route of adding your own buttons gives you the option to have some fun with the colours.

http://members.iinet.net.au/~elpresidente/hrapmod01.jpg

Coloured for a GG/BB style layout - not that I need them coloured to know where to put my fingers. :P

You may note a slight bubbling of the plastic covering near the right hand corner bolt head. That wasn't a result of my efforts but a defect the stick came with.

A friend was saying they did it last week and got one for around 250. But I think that was the SF4 TE stick, or whatever it is. The one that's similar to the pic above.

I got all my parts for my custom (http://i735.photobucket.com/albums/ww353/soxinthebox/finish1.jpg) from that guy (he's Perth based). He was great and pretty quick to respond to questions and allows for pickup if you live in Perth to save on postage.

I thought about modding a HRAP if I didn't get the a HRAP EX SE. Picking the button colours you want does make HRAP look that much cooler.

I was considering only the HRAP EX SE for quick out of the box play and no modding.

Also did you mod your the joystick gate from a 4 way to an 8 way (octogonal) so you can do QCFs and 720 easier?

I'm only getting a HRAP EX because the d-pad on the 360 is crap for fighting games.

I don't know anyone who has put an octo gate in instead of a square gate. SFIV is kinda meant to be played with a square gate anyway cause most of the moves are more natural with the corners there (IMO)

JubeiSaotome
03-12-2009, 03:36 PM
I'm currently using the Tekken 6 Wireless stick as a test bed for moving to Stick. It's got a square gate and works perfectly with who I use (Claw).

StorminNorman
03-12-2009, 06:30 PM

I'll leave that for UC1 to answer definitively, but my guess is that they may require such strict timing as to either be impossible in real life or impractical to use.

SOX
03-12-2009, 07:57 PM
Just means more practice. The meet-ups/comps I went to had dudes consistently pulling out 1 frame links and we were a bunch of scrubs (some more than others - like myself :P ).
I think you'll find if anything some of those combos are just a waste of metre because of damage scaling.

Manny M
03-12-2009, 09:17 PM
Oh yeah, they're generally useless because an ultra with no damage reduction does the same damage, but that's not the point! It's just awesome to see that those kind of combos even exist. By generally playing the game, you really wouldn't think it possible.

BTW, in anticipation of Super, I suggest we plan a night to jump on and have a bash. Been far too long.

Any takers?

I've read that changing from a 4 way gate to an 8 way gate makes a hell of difference (i.e much easier to pull off those multi-combo- supers.)

That said, I ordered a HRAP EX (and a shitload more since I was going get raped on shipping) from PA.

Sorry son, 360.

If these TE sticks were backward compatible between both consoles (for the price, they bloody well should've been) then i'd pick it up for PS3. But alas...

UC1

I'll just say this about TACVs for those interested, it's mainly about controlling both characters. There's a record and playback function in training mode which is alright, but it's not really good enough for certain things like clashes or chasing projectiles or getting hit by projectiles mid combo to reduce recovery. All those combos in the sonichurricane videos are possible, but without a programmable controller you'd need 2 people doing really specific stuff, sometimes with 1/60th second timing windows, several times in one combo. So I'd suggest not to look at the difficulty and execution because it doesn't really exist for this type of stuff, it's more about ideas like "what happens when a fireball and sweep hit at the same time" or "what's the highest amount of focus attacks I can do in one combo," and other things like that. If you look at just the damage, it can get a bit boring because there's only one best combo per given amount of meter, and all the ideas would run out very quickly. I've been messing around with this stuff myself and this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_lRihs6Icw) is my first attempt at a combo using scripts, it's just a variation of something in this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FpqBlCA8tc) video.

Best way to learn :)

And you've got to have a character that throws a bit of a curve ball at your opponent. That's why I loved your Cammy, it's not often people use her so it was great to get thrown off guard (and she whooped my Chunners).

Manny is evil in general, I got CRUSHED! D:

Think I'm going to leave Abel alone for now, and focus on Sagat, he's the only one I seem to have success with at the moment.

I think Abel's a good character to learn, though I don't think he's easy. Definitely another one that throws your opponent off, especially being a mixed grappler. I'd love to learn him, but don't think i've got the patience.

I got a decent handle on him before, I've just forgotten how to use him. If you can time his forward roll you can really frustrate people, he just doesn't have much of an anti-air arsenal, and can be tough to counter when pressured.
