Hell yeah it does!

You surely understand why it is both amazing and completely unexpected that game actually got a sequel - I think most people only played it from one of those valve game packs or because the sequel came out.

Both games have shonky endings.

Fahrenheit because it came completely out of nowhere and hit a lot of people for six as a result.

Heavy Rain because it relies on a deus ex machina in addition to content omission (I've called this 'lying' in the past but I'm being more politic here :P) to justify the killer's identity.

I love both games but Heavy Rain left me feeling betrayed by the story's conclusion. Fahrenheit just left me shocked by the conclusion.

I was surprised by the ending, didn't see it coming - but expected red herrings and such. But the end is consistent with the character in the story, we just don't see all the sides of that character, and project upon him what we expect him to be.

What you are saying is that the "audience" was not in on the secret, so we were as much in the dark as the main characters?
The tension would have been greater if we the audience knew the identity of the killer earlier in the game, but I did not feel betrayed at all, I could not spot any inconsistencies in the character or the revelation, in fact if you read about actual so called killers and such, often they can be quite charming, and appear relatively "normal".

No that's not what he's saying.

There is no reason we needed to know the identity of the killer. What he is saying is that since they didn't want us to know the identity of the killer, there needed to be logical reasons as to why he was the killer. Reasons which in hindsight make us say "Oh of course."

Think of movies like Fight Club or The Sixth Sense. Part of the beauty of both those films is watching them again and seeing all the signs that led to the conclusion. It all makes sense when you watch it again.

Now replay Heavy Rain. There was nothing. Absolutely no clues that led to the identity. Instead at the end of the game, they turn around and say "Oh, here all these things we never showed you earlier that prove why this guy was the killer. See how clever we are."

It wasn't clever. It was cheap and a really poor piece of storytelling.

Replayed the suicide mission of Mass Effect 2 this week (to keep Mordin alive) and Overlord, Lair of the Shadow Broker and Arrival.

Was plenty of fun and ME2 is a far more compelling game than Crysis 2 which I play for 30 minutes and get bored.

Arrival has set the stage for a powerless Shepherd at the start of ME3. I imagine it'll be a Gear of War style prison breakout on Earth as the Reapers attack.

Finished Alan Wake. Great atmosphere and audio design and it's compelling while it lasts. I sensed early on that all the build up was never going to amount to any sort of pay off and I would complain about the ending of the game IF it had one.

Rather disappointed at the lack of any reason to play the game again. No extras, no nothing. And why the heck did I pick up all those coffee cans? Just so some list can tell me how many I collected? Not even some concept art!

Here's hoping the third game lives up to the sequel. But the total lack of involvement from Sam Lake or, indeed, anybody at Remedy does worry me. Not to mention the look of the new Max... not exactly noir (but then again, Veronica Mars reveled in the saturated hues of California and is nothing if not noir).

Uncharted 2 done and dusted. I didn't really have a problem with the final boss like a lot of people said they did, but I'm interested as to why Naughty Dog thought a boss was required at all?

Also, while this game is all kinds of awesome the hype it received I don't think was justified. There are several times where the gunplay mechanics break down and make things very frustrating.

Nonetheless it was a great game and I am officially ready for #3.

Yeah, some great mo-cap there, and some lush beautiful environments comparable to Uncharted. Shame about that terrible ending though.

Where do those poor people go the the bathroom? Not on the floor I hope.

I'd really like to see a sequel to Enslaved that improves on the flaws, with a few subtle tweaks it could be a great game.
Fix the camera (in combat), better boss encounters, less enemy repitition/ palette swap mechs etc, some unlockable junk... I don't know, fedoras for all or some such silly costume.

I just finished FFXIII. Whilst I enjoyed playing through game, with much love for the gorgeous graphics (oh the environments <3) and soundtrack, as well as the battle system (all hail healing after every battle + no MP) and linear environments (I hate wasn't time with battles as I go down both sides of a fork in the road to find treasure), I really didn't feel much of an attachment to the characters or the story. I mean, Vanille and Lightning were cool and all, but I wouldn't have given a shit if they had died. This really surprised me, because those are normally the strongest aspects of an FF game for me. So, it really wasn't a stellar entry into the FF series for me, though for different reasons than most others.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to FFXIII-2.

EDIT: ****, doing the missions is shithouse. Walk 1000000kms to a stone. Accept (only one at a time, of course), complete. Find another stone using the shithouse map that can't turn into a full Gran Pulse world map with connecting areas labelled. ****. Off.

I just finished Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, which I've been playing on and off since release. Wandering around renaissance Rome was spectacular. Revisiting Monterigioni in the modern day was exciting at first but quickly underwhelmed. The Lair's of Romulus & Leonardo's War Machines were as good as the Assassin Tombs from II, and the Brutus Armour reward is pretty damn cool. There were a few plot inconsistencies (if this cataclysmic event is so urgent in Desmond's time, why the hell didn't Minerva just pass the message on to Ezio and gain 500 years extra time to work on it), but I suppose we can ignore these. I really can't wait for Revelations. Is it worth getting the Davinci Disappearance DLC in the mean time?

I just finished Alan Wake and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The game had some really memorable moments and I'd have to say it's easily one of my favourite games this gen so far. The story was decent enough, but I really thought the game shined in the location and its characters. While Alan is an unfit prick and I have no idea how he landed a wife, the other characters were great (Christmas lights!) and Bright Springs was a fantastic location. The combat didn't start out too well, but by the second half I was enjoyed using the various tools at my disposal.

I'm definitely keen for Season 2.

I also can't help but wonder what the game would have been like had Remedy stuck with the open-world idea...

I imagine all the tension they built up would be dissipated, with aimless wandering around, time wasting etc.

Who else stopped collecting the pointless coffee canisters about two hours in?

Well imagine you have ten times as much pointless shit to collect, add in some more explosions, a larger land mass/map and that is pretty much what it would have been like if they kept the open world idea.

I'm glad they went with a tight relatively linear narrative that kept things going, always pushing forward, like watching 24 or LOST on DVD, and knowing that you have to watch the next one, and the next one and oh **** it's dawn already and I have to go to work you maniacs, damn you, you bloody bastards, damn you to hell!

Good port too, ran well. I had it all on max expect for AA and some other thing. One crash, a few framerate drops.
In then end when the chick dies I was expecting to see her later as an alien bug queen.

The DLC was a bit over a dollar and last about an hour, pretty shit really. A few missions as different characters a few hours a part to the starting events of the game. Wouldn't recommend getting the DLC.

Just completed Assassin's Creed. I liked it, but the combat was pretty weak and I really didn't care for the story and main characters. It was all a bit farty IMO. Still, the exploration (after learning the inconsistencies of the controls) around the towns was quite enjoyable with the assassinations definitely the highlight of the game (as they should be!). Each target actually had a quaint little story behind them, as well as being centered around the finest of the cities' sights (the grave scene was particularly awesome). It all fell apart a bit after the graveyard assassination attempt, with the dodgy invisible wall forced combat followed by the incredibly predictable final battle.

Definitely keen to check out how much they improved the sequel!

X-men destiny - pretty good story and even with the fact that you're not playing as an actual X-men character the characterization is good. However Silicon Knights just seem to fail with gameplay mechanics and haven't learnt much from Too Human it seems. Graphically it also seems like a PS2 game.

I expected it to be good characterization as it is written by Mike Carey who is very good when it comes to characterization in his comics.

I didn't know this was out yet I think I will have to pick it up once my pile of unplayed games goes down. I am a big X-men fan so I think I will check it out.

Finished Ace Combat - Call of Duty Edition. What the **** happened Project Aces? Where is the tunnel mission? The destroy-the-super-powerful-Death-Star-wannabe-weapon mission? The developed characters? The plot instead of HUR-DUR-MODERN-WARFARE-DERP? Christ I hope they didn't pay this HERP-DERP-MILITARY-NOVELIST big money for this scraps of a Tom Clancy book.

Out of 12 odd missions, about 2/3rds of them were actual fighter aircraft missions. I bought the game to fly ****ing jets listening to Danger Zone, not fly around in some half assed helicopter gunner mission for 12 minutes holding the down the trigger for EASY MODO.

The DFM and ASM maneuvers were pretty nice inclusions, but then again they stripped out multiple objectives and squadron controls present in the previous entries.

And god the final boss battle. ****ing you have to do 3-4 consecutive scripted dogfights in which the antagonist's plane is INDESTRUCTABLE, which takes approximately 5-6 minutes to run through, before you can actually maybe kill him. THEN he launches his cruise missile, which you somehow must shoot down in super slowmo dogfight mode which just makes it harder than what it should've ****ing been in the first place.

So in summary, **** you Project Aces and Namco, release Ace Combat Classics HD Collection (Containing 04, 05, Zero and 06) so you can wipe this stain off.

Finished Red Faction: Armageddon. Five hours and twenty minutes, not bad for $12. Very linear and mostly combat instead of blowing up buildings. Guerrilla is way better but I still enjoyed Armageddon, now to muck around in infestation and ruin mode.

The previous game Guerrilla came with DLC for free on PC.

I'm already thinking of giving this game away, I started playing it and GOD It IS AWFUL and I can not force myself to finish it.

Went out and bought Guerilla a few days later and been enjoying that ever since.

It's not that bad.:o
Kill aliens, progress, OMG a new colour alien which is slightly harder to kill.
Killing them most of the time I used the gun the shoots 4 mine things that stick and then pressing reload detonates them. Towards then end of the game I just run past them. The most annoying thing is walling on a ramp of platform and there's a hole you don't see so you fall and have to go all the way up again and repair the hole to get past.

Guerrilla is way better.
Guerrilla had some puzzle elements with destroying a building in a certain time, I miss that.

Finished God of War: Chains of Olympus (PS3 version).

First run on normal, and started on God mode and about 2-3 hours into that.

I love this game as much as the other GoW games, well except 3, which I will have to force myself to replay again soon now that I'm less bitter about it.

I'm really impressed with how well they have upscaled the graphics for PS3, it wasn't until I read Wilks' Hyper review (after having completed the game) that I found out they actually improved the poly count of the in game models and did some work on textures etc. A really impressive effort, some parts you'd be hard pressed to tell if it was the GoW PSP games, or the original GoW.

The funny thing about God mode in the god of war series (hardest difficulty) is that it's still too easy. It's basically like playing DMC / N GAIDEN / BAYONETTA on the easiest difficulty. Probably a good thing really, otherwise I'd never complete the hardest mode and unlock the crap videos of devs staring at computer screens while some crap music plays and you scream "IS THAT IT?" at the TV.

Knocked off all the DLC for Dragon Age: Origins and I'm only one cheivo from the 100% (one of the sacred ashes branches from Origins). I loved Awakening, it was enjoyable despite being more of the same. I suppose something about the story sucked me in and refused to let go. Darkspawn Chronicles didn't do much for me and Golems of Amgarrak was a let down. Thankfully Chronicles was short.

Amgarrak's boss was hyped up to be this unstoppable fiend which was only weak to a glitch abusable by archers, or mages in general (on hard and nightmare). Switching to a dual wielding spirit warrior, I found it to be piss easy. All it took was some kiting, a few health pots, some stamina pots when I felt like using whirlwind for shits and giggles, and ding, cheivo unlocked. I ended up soloing it once it changed into its second form because my party got wiped, since the AI are useful for little more than meat shields and healing.

Finally got around to playing the last two stages of Madworld last night after months of doing nothing with it.

A much as I love this game, I really wish I had that second analogue stick to control the in game camera. The main reason I died in an otherwise easy game was due to enemies attacking me from off screen, which got pretty damn annoying in the later stages.

Overall though, I love this game and after a time will replay it, shame it's so short but then there is always the incentive to complete as many kill bonuses / score multipliers etc in each stage. The cut scenes were a bit meh, but the in game commentary from Proops and DiMaggio was comedy gold.

Steven Blum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Blum#Animation_roles) was awesome as Jack, and I recognised his voice right away, he plays jack very much like his Wolverine, which is a very good thing.

Finally knocked off all three of the endings in Armored Core: For Answer. As with all AC games, I spent way more time in the menus than is probably healthy for my strained eyes. Summing up my AC fanboyish glee with the customisation available: it didn't fail to disappoint.

As for the gameplay and storyline, I can't help but feel that this game is really short. Knocking off the final playthrough in a few hours was a tad unfulfilling, though so was the 'destruction' ending. Spoiler: Tag with a Russian accented douche and blow apart 100 million people in a matter of minutes. Woo.

Though for any who may play this, go ORCA. Viva la revolution and all that jazz.

I also wished they'd put a bit more thought into the achievements. Offline cheivos are to destroy this huge fortress, do that ending and achieve these ranks. Online is...who honestly wants to play 10k matches and score 10k kills? What the **** were From Software thinking? Maybe if they'd made them like 'achieve a rank of S in x missions/mission x using only energy weapons', or 'with a mech under x weight', etc. At least that'd encourage people to try more of the weapons and configurations.

Anyway, I enjoyed myself, though I can see this returning to the stack for a while since I can't be bothered with another two playthroughs to unlock the last missing missions, nor can I find the motivation to finish all the missions to an S ranking.

Finished Saint's Row 3. I really enjoyed myself with it and look forward to going for the 100% - I loved the dialogue and the somewhat zany crap it threw at you, plus the endings really ramped to a climax. I originally saved the statue and thought it was a nice 'happy' ending, though the final mission after killing Kilbane was just hectic - my preferred ending, especially with that media announcement :D What does concern me about it is that without the side missions being used as filler, the story would have been way too short. Even now, I felt many of the missions (such as the zombies and the dismantling of the gangs) could have been spread across more missions. It often felt like each bit was over before it truly began.

I liked the menu system and thought the upgrade system was well done - it helps to encourage post-story gameplay and really allows you to improve on your specific play style. I'm a fan of being a one man army which it allows for with health and ammo upgrades, while also catering for people who like to bring along backup or have a ****ing jet delivered to the fight. If the story-based DLC is anything like the main missions, then I look forward to buying it. Though what they did with the season pass does seem like a bit of a kick in the nuts (you get the story DLC, but the swath of cosmetic DLC is seperate).

Finished Deadly Premonition. Not sure what to think about the end, not quite what I expected to occur after all the gameplay that came before. It's like the Chinese dragon in True Crime: Streets of LA all over again. Regardless, oddly charming game, felt like 8 years ago playing some unknown game on the PS2 (which is good, for me, etc.).

So says Mr Stewart.

Finished the Last Story. it's rare to find good JRPGs now a days but this is one of them.

Does it take the same progressive approach to mechanics that Xenoblade did or is it more just a good example of the traditional JRPG approach?

I would say so, random encounters are nowhere to be found and environments aren't littered with enemies to engage like in JRPGs that do away with them, instead battles are more like designed setpieces (occasionally you'll also come across a glyph on the ground that you can use to engage in optional battles).

Combat is real-time, implements some elements of a cover system and is based on drawing aggro with the player character's special "Gathering" ability. While gathering your character can revive fallen teammates and will heal when attacked. You can also fire arrows from first person, which can be handy at the start of a battle in particular to deal damage to any specific enemy you might want to drop quickly (like a mage, for instance).

You can also pause action to issue orders to your teammates when a skill meter has been filled. It's a really enjoyable and very unique combat system that seems to get better and better as the game goes on and you're given more abilities.

The game is also paced a lot faster than JRPGs and doesn't seem to really require any sort of grinding. It definitely has traditional JRPG elements, but it's a far cry from something like Lost Odyssey. The biggest thing the game has going against it is that most of the characters are duds and the story doesn't seem nearly as good as what Xenoblade Chronicles offers. Still, I'd recommend giving it a go, the combat is a lot of fun.

Cheers for the summary, I'll give it a look in.

They reviewed it on Good Game recently if you want to see a short video that gives you a reasonable idea about how it plays etc:

I''ll be buying it for sure, but not until later in the year when I've finished some other games (and the price will inevitably drop).

Finished Resident Evil Revelations. Decent game that would probably have been better if I had the circle pad pro. Found some sections infuriating.

Skyrim. Done all the major quest lines and guilds, got nice armour, have gone on mass killing spree etc.

It may not be a game that you can see the credits roll in, but I'm done with it til at least the xpac arrives.

I went back to Skyrim for a couple of days until D3 arrives. Used an exploit to get 100 in all skills. Provided a few more hours of totally op entertainment.

Finished THOR on Wii, which is a totally different game to the other console versions.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this game, it's short, the combat is simple - but you get to be THOR kicking a lot of ass fighting hordes of enemies and yelling "Have at THEE you giant frosty mother ****ers!" whenever you like.

LOL awesome, I'll be sure to do that if I get around to Thor on Wii.

Also, flicking the Wii-mote (or nunchuk) to throw THOR's hammer is pretty sweet.

One of the very few times that a motion thingy actually enhances a game a little bit.

The other examples of motion control enhancing the experience on wii being No More Heroes 1+2 and NO OTHER WII GAME EVER!

Somehow I've ended up with THOR on DS, Wii and PS3, none of which are exceptional - but they are fun and three whole different games - so I can't complain.
