A show in which contestants attempt to lose weight via dancing, Resulting in something resembling a lava lamp.

Beauty and the Geek Australia.

The condescending, stereotype drive bullcrap, that throws geeks with the social skills of a hamster with women with IQs of pond scum now has an Australian iteration.

Perfect Couple.

Couples of various types, Virgins, Married Couples, Gays are put through challenges to determine who is Australias Perfect Couple.

Ok, time to admit it...I love crap-arse reality shows. Especially the ones on late at night. Paradise Hotel, god I was addicted to that. Joe Schmo, My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance/Boss, Joe Millionaire, Meet My Folks, Playing it Straight, Wife Swap (love this one), The Apprentice...even the one with Mark Cuban. Having said that, however, I think the quality of reality shows has declined. The best was between 2002-2004 imo.

True story, I'm a member of the UWA Scifi/Fantasy club, and we got an email asking if any of our members wanted to audition for Beauty and the Geek. As its a social club though, most of us are way overqualified socially.

I considered applying for Beauty and the Geek but I eventually realized I kind of putting life on hold for 3 months (effectively losing a semester of uni) to embarass myself on national TV. I also think I'm too well rounded a geek, both in the social and geek sense. Like apart from being socially over-qualified socially, from what I saw on other series, the geeks generally had these really specific fields of expertise. Like you had the LARPer who went around pretending to be a Kobold or some musicologist nerd girl who lived in an apartment with other nerdy looking girls. I'm kind of a Jack of All Trades nerd without a clear defined nerd characteristic I fit into, the closest you'd get is Fighting Gamer but even then, it's not like I'm anywhere near the best in the country.

EDIT: I caught the end of True Beauty on Thursday night, it was truly just so so laughably bad. I liked how the 'test' of inner beauty was whether or not they helped some guy that looked like he nearly died after falling off a bicycle and how one of them didn't.

Also semi-related to reality TV, I'm going to the Food and Wine Show in Perth next weekend to go see the Masterchef judges and hopefully manage to get a picture and something signed, just to fulfill a strange desire to meet a reality TV star of some kind. I also saw Kate from Masterchef at UWA the other day and was like "Was that Kate from Masterchef? I think it was, no way!" God I loved Masterchef.
