As ODST rumbles ever closer to a public release and the forums are now back up and running I thought it pertinent to bring back an old favourite in the Halo thread.
Pre-ordering ODST at EB gets you a Sgt. Johnson unlock to play as in Firefight mode which is pretty cool. Plus you get beta access to Halo Reach which sounds to me like the mutliplayer in Reach will be different to that of Halo 3 which is interesting indeed.
There is also a controller bundle deal with ODST (http://www.ebgames.com.au/xbox/product.cfm?id=15049&refer=productsearch) going for $149 RRP but JB will probably have it around the $129 mark.

Controller bundle seems like a nice deal. Do you have to pre-order the controller bundle deal.

I'd say so. I work at EB and we've been told that pre-order is the best way to get it. We may get one or two spares but I'm not counting on it.

I remember we had tonnes of Halo 3 controllers left after the initial release, same with XBL 12 + 1 month cards.
EDIT: That being said I doubt it's going to be in the same numbers as the previous controller. I've gotten really tired of Halo 3 despite the new maps. If I do hop on it's only really for some action sack.

Also, Nathan Fillion in ODST. That is all.

There doesn't seem to be much of a buzz surrounding Halo:ODST. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Hype has never been the Halo series friend, this can only bode well. (Of course I have loved each and every Halo game, but I'm a fanboy)

Aweeeesome!
This is the first time I've been excited for a Halo game :) . Everything I've read about it suggests that they're taking it in a very different direction to the others. I'm all for it!

As long as ODST is better than Halo 2 I think it will be alright. Seriously, I still haven't gotten over the betrayal that was Halo 2's ending...

I'M HERE TO FINISH THIS FIGHT ... end.

It was the middle in a trilogy, though. Did anyone really expect another outcome?

I seem to remember Bungie saying during Halo 2's development though that Halo 2 would wrap everything up, which is probably so many people were like >_> .

Possibly. I wasn't that aware of the Halo 2 hype train.

The Halo 2 hype was bigger than Halo 3 and Assassin's Creed combined I dare say.

I thought the biggest problem of the ending is that the game had been advertised to hell as "TAKE EARTH BACK FROM THE ALIEN SCUM"...which do kinda do for two levels, and then spend an entire game not on Earth, and then just as you think "**** YEAH MASTER CHIEF IS GOING TO EARTH TO BLOW SHIT UP THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOME", the game ends.
It probably didn't help that really the best action pieces were in the early levels, and you think you're going to revisit that, but don't (in that game at least anyway)

I think that's more Marketing's fault than anything else. You know you can never really trust a trailer.

Well the 'taking back of Earth' was only really part of it, but I think it was just the big tease of a big all out action fest at the end of the game, when there wasn't (well I thought there wasn't) really anything like it during the actual game except early on. It was like the game peaked at the beginning and then went downhill from there, and by the end there wasn't really any adrenaline or tension in the game anymore, so the ending was more annoying than a cool way to set up the next game.

The funny thing is ODST will be (I assume) set entirely on Earth and yet there is no marketing pushing this fact. It would be so easy to say "While the Chief is pushing the assault on the Covenant forward, you are defending our shores" or something more poetic than I'm willing to think of right now.

I can see where you're coming from, there, but how do you feel about it now that the trilogy is complete and you can just jump straight in to "finish the fight", as it were? Has that changed your outlook on the second game?

I'll let you know when I get around to playing Halo 3 for myself. >_>
But even after that I think I'll probably still feel a bit ripped off by the second game.

Second game would have been better if there was a huge fight on Earth and Master Chief took a huge blast to the chest, fade to black, roll credits.
Halo 3 starts with Master Chief being revived, which is how it started anyway.

I'm a great sacrificial lamb/piece of bait in multiplayer so holla when you get on :)

Can you imagine the three year uproar during the development of Halo 3 though. Would have been awesome to sit back and watch lol.
Not quite sure where to post this, but here seems logical. Bungie doing their bit for Haiti, and we can do a bit too if we play Halo on live on Wed or Thurs (times probably need to be adjusted).

That's almost the ending of Resistance 2!!!
:O
Halo 2's ending is still horrible no matter how you look at it.
Can't wait to play the prequel!

Even the last level is sucky. It doesn't have the sense of "oh crap, it's really hit the fan" like Halo 1 and 3 do.

Especially on Legendary when Johnson gains the magic ability to miss Tartarus every single time, and turns it into a 20 minute grind fight.

Especially on normal when Tartarus decides he's had enough of appearing in a shitty game and decides to hurl himself off the edge of the platform.
