On Metroid: Other M

My demo was admittedly very short so I didn't get much of a chance to savor the moments, but I will say that the game, while visually strong, has a very "clunky" feel to it that hasn't gone away since my last hands-on. The game's been designed around the Wii remote exclusively, and while it's great to get a Metroid game that harkens back to the old-school NES and Super NES days, it's hard to ignore a lot of the stiffness of the game's control. Wall jumping didn't feel as fluid and natural in this game, for example. And while I can appreciate the Wii pointer control for first-person mode, it feels awkward to jump in and jump out constantly – not to mention that you can't move around while you're looking through Samus' visor -- only rotate from the spot that you were standing in when you jumped into first-person mode.

Omg haven't been keeping track of release date..it's almost here!

From what I've watched from the early stages of the game there are an awful lot of cutscenes. Hearing Samus constantly introspectively natter on like generic japanese videogame character #2534 was a bit annoying/frustrating (at least her voice actress sounds suitably distant). ¬_¬ The controls still look really annoying.

A sub 10 hour campaign is a bit disappointing for Metroid, but if what's there is largely enjoyable I'm sure the length won't bother me.

My heads so used to Prime, walk in a room and scan everything. I miss scanning.

You can't double bomb jump which caused me to get stuck until I realised you can jump, grab onto the ledge and then pull yourself up while changing to morph ball.

The game seems pretty easy with telling you where to go and showing you when you're close to an upgrade but I have died against a boss.

That is true, the Metroid Prime games were set before Super Metroid, they are prequels if you like. I'm pretty sure they are set after the NES game.

Other M takes place directly after Super Metroid from my understanding.

I think that's a bit of a warning to all of us.
Seriously, she defeats a purple tentacle-monster and all of a sudden Adam thinks, 'Woah, you're hot', or something?
It doesn't seem like this will be the amazing Samus character from the Prime games.

Might be a decent game in its own right but because its following the prime series its being looked upon more harshly.
Im thinking I might actually play Other M before I get stuck into the prime series just to see if this is true.

I think the main issue people are having is that Samus was a very strong character in the other game without having much of a voice.
Now she has a voice and the dialogue is so bad, its hilarious =)
Haha! The more I see of those cut-scenes, the more I want to play the game!

I feel sorry for girls looking for strong female characters though.
On first inspection, I don't think they will find them here.

Nothing, because Samus' suit has a gyroscopic stabiliser that prevents her own body from turning to mush while in morphball form, and as such, would protect the baby as well.

Just checked out the Sonic Colours gameplay demo over at Kotaku. They've finally addressed the issue with Sonic having no traction and it finally looks like a Sonic game I'd want to buy. So it only them 9 years to figure out the primary fault in the series.

So I just bought Red Steel 2 and Disaster: Day of Crisis for $70 in a two for one sale. I'm having a bit of fun with ol' Day of Disaster, but so far feeling kinda ripped off by Red Steel 2.
Bland level design ruins what could have been a really good game.

Well, I was going by the date listed on Zavvi (not the most reliable source, I know). But after reading your post I went and checked the Nintendo UK site, where the game is listed as Q1 2011. :(

I am. Every video looks awesome, the production values look awesome, and I want it really bad. Early impressions have all been surprisingly positive, too.

Not to mention the music is utterly brilliant. Well, except for the fact it cuts out every time you use a power up.

A limited release, or available on order. It was apparently an import, but because OFLC had rated it, I guess they were allowed to sell it.

I passed on buying it as it was full price - it's much cheaper to import! ;)

I was in the city today and decided to pick up Sonic Colours. By far the best Sonic game I've played in a while, they took all the best bits from Sonic Unleashed and made it playable.

I've played some more of it and I can honestly say that it's not only a decent Sonic game, it is the best 3D Sonic game they've ever made. That may not seem that hard to believe considering what's come before, so I'll also say it's on par with the quality that went into the megadrive games.

It functions just as well as a regular remote, my only complaint is that the b-trigger is a little bit higher in relation to the a-button than it is on a normal remote which can make it feel a little awkward to use, but it's a minor thing.

It's only been released in Europe so you'll have to import it. For some reason they also change the title for the pal release to A Shadow's Tale.

The whole situation reeks of a good game caught up in licensing bullshit, it came out in the US almost three months after its EU release and I've been told will never be shipped out here for local sale unlike other EU releases, like Klonoa and A Boy and his Blob.

Nintendo started as a small Japanese business by Fusajiro Yamauchi on September 23, 1889[1] as Nintendo Koppai. Yup, they've made all the Rhythm Heaven games.

The GBA game, the first one, holds many personal accolades. These include "GOTY 2006", "Best GBA Game Ever Created" and "Greatest Rhythm/Music Game Of All Time". It's completely and utterly amazing.

The DS game was a massive disappointment. The controls were awful. Touchscreen controls should never be used in a rhythm game unless said game is Ouendan.

This Wii game brings back button presses and impressions so far are massively positive. A glorious return to form, then.
