And let's not forget the Games For Windows bullshit you have to put up with

On top of rockstar social club shit.

It really was a godawful release. I wonder what the mod scene for it's like though...

It's plays quite well now when patched. It still has GFWL and Rockstar Social Club but they aren't really intruding and you can play it fine offline.

If it has it's own site it can't be doing too bad!

Wouldn't buying it from Steam mean that you'd avoid GfWL in the first place?

EDIT: Apparently not.

You'll only get to find out if it's a resource hog if you actually manage to get the game working, and even then it can be completely unplayable

I actually thought it gave his character some depth. Knowing what his family is like (ie. his brother keeps putting him down), you start to understand why Brucie might be as over-the-top as he is. Plus, the cut scene where he finally snaps and clocks Mori in the face is priceless, particularly when Mori starts crying like a little bitch.

That's the correct chronological order to be playing them, but you'll get quite a feature shock going from San Andreas to III. IV is different because the game and the episodes all take place pretty much side-by-side so there's no real "correct" order to play them.

It was cool spotting the other two lead characters during cut scenes in GTA IV.

When I originally played VC then SA then III, it impressed me how tight the continuity was between the three titles, in regards to the writing, radio ads, references to other characters, places, missions etc.

Why is the game combined with the episodes 30gig on PC? Or is it a matter of if I downloaded the GTA 4 first the episodes size would be recalculated as I assume they use the same libraries and no longer need to be downloaded?

The episodes are standalone. You can download GTA 4 then copy it's folders into the directory for the eps to save some downloading.

Not to mention money earning shock.

San Andreas Mission: Rob a bank, do a drive by, assassinate some political figure then escape during a 20 minute bicycle ride through enemy gang territory while being pursued by both a truck and a helicopter. Earn $200.

GTA3 Mission: Drop someone home down the road. Earn $10,000.

Two words: home invasions. You can earn >$10k in less than ten minutes. And that's mostly in the earlier parts of the game. As you get further into it, your money-earning potential increases dramatically.

Also, pimping. You can find one parked next to the gas station near Reese's barber shop.

Oh I already made more than enough money in that game via gambling.

Every time I click play it takes me to the Joystiq home page. Weird.

I've been messing around with San Andreas on the PC trying out different mods, one in particular adds bloom and better textures, makes the game look a whole lot different.

EDIT

I really should get SA on PC. It is still my fav GTA. Could do with a replay in high definition.

I've even gone to the trouble of hooking the PC up to the big TV to play it!

Although I did spend a few hours trying to get the 360 controller working properly (GTASA doesn't recognise the right stick or the triggers for some reason) then trying other controllers and drivers and workarounds (PC gaming is so much easier than consoles!) in the end I'm just using the 360 controller for driving then switching to keyboard/mouse for running and gunning.

I played it fairly recently actually, I got it running at my last static site. Made the arvo shifts much quicker. I couldn't get the damn thing to save games though, from memory the pc had some privileges removed to C drive that I couldn't get around.

Still a very fun sandbox though

I've solved my controller issues by digging out a Playstation 2 to USB converter I've had for ages, works perfectly with all buttons and both analogue sticks.

Maybe I will just use this than do the massive download for this game on Steam.

Well I finally finished BoGT today after downloading it over a year ago.

RDR came out and I stopped playing and forgot all about BoGT.

I forgot how great the GTA IV experience was and recently coming back from a holiday that took me to New York I had fun spotting all the landmarks.

Bring on news of GTA V!
