Thanks to that Target sale for $14.95 PS3 only (price lasts for 2 weeks btw) a few people have already picked this game up mainly because of the amount of free content straight off the bat but also because its now a great game that was once proving too dull & boring for me before any patches were made.
I'm tempted to buy the DeLorean for $6.95 but as cool as it looks I hate it how its twice the price of the other DLC cars. Big Surf Island seems like its nearly worth the pricetag compared to Cops n Robbers & Party Pack (both of which are heavily overpriced) - Jay, I'm pretty sure I saw you playing that addon, thoughts?
I suppose we can also use this thread to organise Hyper online multiplayer nights too :) Anyone up for a Sunday bash? (PS3 players only)

Big Surf Island is definitely the best value / must-have DLC. Cops and robbers is good fun, but doesn't offer much variety. That said if you've got some dedicated friends and some extra cash, it's a lot of fun. Party mode is really only worth it if you've got friends over regularly and drinks are available.
As for the cars, they're nice, but hardly necessary. I'd say go for Big Surf Island before you get anything else, it comes with extra vehicles anyway.
I've done just about everything there is to do in the game, but it's still fun to dick around so if there's enough people to get a decent game together I wouldn't mind joining in.

I went to target and they had no copies, but by this time I was intent on owning the game so I got it off PSN. I'll probably join in Sunday night.

I haven't played my copy in ages, I should really check out the latest patches.
Have they finally given the ability to restart a race immediately rather than drive back to the starting line?
banjoeskimo
25-07-2009, 12:02 PM
Yeah, I think they added that two patches ago. For reference, you only need the one patch on your HDD at any one time, all patches are cumulative, so you only need to download the latest and you're set. Actually, I'm pretty sure Criterion have stopped adding to the game, so if you do download the latest patch that should be all you'll ever need.

Wasn't there supposed to be a retail package coming out soon or already is out that has all the patches with it already?
Or did I just imagine that?

Well that was a mess of a game :p But at least we got some trophies by accident!
Has anyone mastered the online menu navigation? Here are the things I need to know:
- Can you change from motorcycle to cars? Going into the Junkyard wouldn't let me choose
- When you start an event where you have to meet at a specific location (that's impossible to find sometimes using instinct) is there a way to put a GPS on it or automatically arrive there or something?
- If both players (or more) meetup at the target location does it automatically start or do you use the usual command L2+R2 (PS3) to start the race?
A detailed online guide would be helpful, can't believe its remained vastly unchanged where doing simple things isn't so simple

I agree, it's not really straightforward is it. I wonder why it defaults to bikes in online modes as well.

This game is excellent.
Trophies are given out to you almost naturally and feel oh so organic, races are everywhere so no needless driving for long distances just to get to one, shortcuts, burnout billboards and special cars you need to smash into to obtain pop up throughout the city on a regular basis and everything runs super smoothly.
It is a game of near constant rewards.

Ugh me too, although at the same time I don't want one! Just want to borrow it from some chump, use it, then give it back. Those sort of trophies shouldn't count towards platinum imo
Also I found out that if you purchase Big Surf Island DLC, you can unlock the 4 cars (delorean, ghostbusters etc) by completing all the jumps on the island - so you can save yourself from wasting $13 purchasing them seperately - unless I'm misread it somehow

I got Big Surf Island, a nice deviation with jumps just going up & up! I've finished all the jumps already & unlocked a toy car and now I'm circling around the island trying to figure out how to destroy all the billaboards since a lot of them seem like you have to jump from somewhere high and hope you hit it

Unlocked the 88 Delorean on Big Surf Island, ohhh yeah! Toy version though so it doesn't look as good but its still fun & goes super fast & you can make the car hover at the flick of a switch and leave fire trails when you use boost :D Took me ages to figure out how to find & destroy every billaboard to get it, sometimes I wish there was a proper 360camera that could pan out if you needed to because on the odd occasion they were nearly impossible to see/line up properly

Finished the bike races and got my 2nd gold trophy, took me ages when I was getting near the end and basically every race I had to do next was on the opposite side of the map - there really should be a shortcut option to start races.
After getting sick of trying to beat road rule times I went online for a bit and got some easy trophies but the races are really annoying to get to - there's just way too much driving involved. I ended up getting lost and smashing 2 billboards I hadn't smashed before so it was somewhat satisfying. I've destroyed 99/160 now
/backslash
06-09-2009, 09:57 PM
Smashed the billboards (there was only 120), the last one was a bit hidden among the streets yet was much easier than the ones that involved flying across 2 rooftops and maintaining speed without crashing. Got the last of the jumps too so I've unlocked 2 more cars, one's speedy, one's semi-speedy but has good cornering. Pretty handy for those leftover races. Only got 5 gates left to bash but they're really hard to find, especially since I've hit 395 of them!
There's one trophy I was thinking about getting, a silver trophy that involves a 24 hour day on a bike. That means 24 hours of my time I'm pretty sure, yet I've spent 25 hours playing the game up until this point - its an evil trophy. Was thinking about leaving the PS3 on for a day but I think you need to be driving. Plus its a waste of electricity
Need about 80 trophies now before I get my licence upgraded, I'm wondering how complete the game needs to be to get a platinum trophy. If its just the billboards, gates, jumps, 75 cars and the events it should be pretty easy but I absolutely suck at the stunt runs and stringing combos together, not my forte - I've only completed 8 in total

It's not. You can change the time scaling, and have a full day-night cycle go past in 24 minutes. Do it while your going for 100% with your bike license.
/backslash
07-09-2009, 12:27 AM
I've already got 100% on my bike license :p Well thank god I don't need 24 hours otherwise I would've demanded a platinum trophy
/backslash
07-09-2009, 02:36 AM
Wow, that's about the easiest Silver trophy ever, you don't really need to do anything - just drive around for 24min. I completed the rest of the road rules while waiting & after that I got in the toy car and did a barrel roll in the Airfield for an easy Bronze
Question: How exactly do you do timed challenges and freeburns? Are they only available online?
/backslash
08-09-2009, 08:22 PM
Found a very handy website if anyone (like myself) was missing a particular gate/jump/billboard. Basically what you do is copy your game save to USB and then upload the particular file to this website
http://www.burnoutteamrocks.com/
Hit the final 4 gates which I thought had some kind of bug where I did something online and it didn't save it or during a race & I'd spent hours driving around looking for them. Got the GT Concept car for my effort :D
