I'm pretty amazed at the effort that is being put into Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. It really does feel like the X360 version was a beta edition and that Itagaki really didn't give a **** about the franchise he created. If you ask me it seems that the franchise now has the better director suited to the franchise in Hayashi.

I mean extra playable characeters, new bosses, new areas and an online co-op mode.
How can you not want to play this?
Anyone else grabbing this game?

So glad I didn't pay for the retail beta version on 360

I'm excited, but a little worried. Ninja Gaiden Sigma's extra weapon was hardly "fleshed out", so I fear how the additional characters will play.

I'm really excited by this. I love the original Ninja Gaiden, as well as Sigma, but I skipped out on NGII because I hated what I played of it - definitely looking forward to Sigma 2 and its fixes!

Looks just like Ninja Gaiden 2 with extra stuff.
Pass.

It's Ninja Gaiden 2 as it should have been. Glad I passed on the X360 version.

The only thing I hope they fix is the sequence near the end of the game where you have to fight like a billion ninjas all at once, and the 360 just slows down so badly during that sequence.
That's pretty much the only thing wrong with the 360 version, tbh. Looking forward to playing as Ayane, though.

Online co-op modes are a sure fire way to get me to pay for a game ... again. Along with Resistance 2's awesome co-op & Uncharted 2's gold rush, this should give me plenty of multi-player options over the holidays

I love the slow down during that part, you can really appreciate Ryu's UTs when they go at one frame a second and you pinpoint the exact moment when you've decapitated a ninja. :)

What about the dual armadillo fight? I couldn't see shit during that fight. :(

I remember when I was younger, playing, nes, snes and N64 games, I thought that slowdown was intentional. It made the action more epic. :P
NG2 needed a few more months of polish, but it was still an excellent game.
The new stuff seems pretty cool, especially if you hadn't already checked out the game on the 360.

Ditto. Have it preordered already at Play-Asia alongside Demon's Souls Deluxe Edition from the USA.

It's difficult to justify a re-buy for NGS2 if you already own NG2 on 360.
If I didn't own NG2 on 360, I'd consider importing the Premium edition.

Yeah got the US version preordered too. Finished the Asian version a few nights ago and I'm dying to play it again. I'd say Demon's souls is a good contender for my game of the year. I haven't played a game with old school mechanics like this in years.
Sony better fund a sequal

Since Tecmo's games are bilingual, the Japanese release should be in full English.

You can't play as Ayane in the 360 version.

Neither of which run properly on the 360 anymore. :(
I wonder what the probability of a DoAX:Sigma is...

Given that Sigma Ninja Gaiden means playable chicks, I can see the reverse applying to DOAX. (1)

Unless things have changed, the original was never on the BC list, and DoAX2 won't save any progress when NXE is installed.

Dude I didn't mean those DOA games. :)
Besides, I think it's hotter when the jiggle occurs because she's kicking someone in the face, or has her legs wrapped around someone's head and throws them to the ground, rather than when she's playing volleyball. >_>

ohh you meant both of the shit ones. I know DOA4 works fine, and I assumed DOAX2 works because it booted - I'd never actually play that crap...

In what is clearly the most significant advancement in video game technology ever, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 will allow you to control (http://kotaku.com/5352254/ninja-gaiden-sigma-2-gets-sixaxis-jiggle-support) the amount of gainaxing (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Gainaxing) in the game via the Sixaxis' motion sensing features.

Hmm. I was just thinking about why I stopped playing my 360 version... All the slowdowns and the crazy bosses in hell making it impossible to actually see anything. I think I might actually go pick this up.

Got the limited edition today. Game looks noticeably better than the 360 version and the gameplay is more balanced overall.
As I stated before, it feels like NG2 with NG Sigma 1's gameplay and feel.

Are there new weapons for Ryu and are they actually fleshed out this time (as opposed to the dual swords in Sigma 1)?
klee123
07-10-2009, 02:44 PM
There are 2 new weapons, which are Emma's Fang, which is kinda like the Dabilarho from NG Sigma and the Howling Cannon which acts as a projectile weapon.
They've actually fleshed out the controls this time, as it's much easier to do projectile attacks and melee attacks this time around. Unlike NG2, the bow is equipped at all times and uses the R2 button to fire instead of O, which means that it is possible to shoot an arrow and then throw a shuriken straight afterwards.
The biggest change I like in Sigma 2 is that you can Izuna drop Genshin in Chapter 2. It's so satisfying.

Agreed. I beat the game on Acolyte today (which is way easier than 360 Acolyte), and it was a blast from start to finish. The new chapters with Ayane/Momiji/Rachael are fun (although I still hate playing as Rachael), and the game just feels that much more polished than it did on the 360.
The lock-on targeting works really well, and makes the boss fights where ranged attacks are useful a lot easier.
The changes make an already great action game the best game of its kind this generation. It really is that good.
Also, I giggled like a fanboy when Kasumi showed up.
EDIT: Also, I found I didn't really use Enma's Fang outside of some boss fights. On the other hand, I pretty much never went back to the bow once I got the Howling Cannon.

I've only played 3/4 of an hour of it so far, but even through that I can tell it's just sooooooooo much more polished than the 360 version. Main thing I remember about that version was having to constatly screw-around with the f***ing camera! That and getting owned like a b1tch!
So is the consensus that this is a good game or a not so good game?
I want to buy it, but I've heard some things that suggest maybe I shouldn't.
I'm leaning towards wait a bit and buy at a discount. I got Sigma 1 and like it (haven't finished it though) and I think Sigma 2 will be just as good.

Based on my time with the demo, it's a better game than sigma. I beat the original ninja gaiden on xbox (what a bitch) and bought Sigma when it came out but lost interest a few stages in. The main thing is that it is balanced so much better and not so much 'difficult for the sake of being difficult'.
That said, I probably won't buy it until it's cheap in the post christmas lull.

Bought the Collector's Ed today from JB. Surprised to find it since I work in a GAME store and we didnt get it, so I didnt think there was one.
Quite a lot of stuff in it, soundtrack in premium packaging, a costume DLC, and a comic with a mini guide. Really well done stuff.

I had the opportunity to buy the Japanese CE: NGS2 for like $100 AU.
Didn't get it because I already have NG2 on 360 and I'll probably wait for it to go platinum on PS3.

Really depends HOW MUCH you like the game. I found NG2 on 360 a complete pain in the arse to play, and sigma 2 seems to rectify a lot of the problems (difficulty seems a bit more forgiving, the camera's barely an issue any more), plus you've got your unlockable characters and SIXAXIS JIGGLE!! lol.
Maybe hire it and see what you think? If you're tempted, I'd wait until it drops down in price or pre-owned is cheap enough to warrant a purchase, as it's the better version in my opinion, but probably not drastically so.
