I don't want to live in a UFC world.

Because of the Strikeforce buyout or because of the two Pride fighters that just lost?
I still cannot comprehend what happened to Shogun :/

Everything.
Dream is MIA (I don't doubt FEG will hope no one remembers it when they try to get this year's GP and MAX GP running this year)
Sengoku is dead
Strikeforce is now Zuffa property and will be dead in a year
Everyone is now a wrassle-boxer
And yes, the old favourites are nearing the end.
The UFC is slowly getting want they want, world domination, but at the cost of MMA as a whole. Variety is the spice of life but options are drying up. Fighters will be worse off as they have to sign their lives away and toe the line just to make a decent living.
The only shining light left is Overeem.

I am still in shock after that fight man.
Anyone else watch it? Thoughts?
Absolutely incredible! The whole card was fantastic, but the main event was something else. I don't think I've ever seen as impressive a performance from anyone, let alone a 23yo.
I didn't like the way they brought Rashad in after the fight - let Jonny have his glory in his moment FFS! But yeah, Shogun looked a beaten man from the moment he took that kick in the face in R1, and was absoloutely destroyed.
Rashad's only hope will be to get in a good shot right on Jonny's chin if he gets the chance.
Sorry about the spoilers, but no one really reads this thread who hasn't already seen it.

One of the best UFC cards in ****ing ages.
I think Jon "Bones" Jones is going to dominate Light Heavy for a while. He is like the Anderson Silva of that class.
Pretty much any one of those fights could have been a co-main event at Sydney. Great card. Wasted on what seemed to be a pretty obnoxious crowd in NJ.

just watched it again and he actually tapped at the end, although Herb Dean had already stepped in by then.

Btw Evans left Jackson's camp today claiming some shit about he didn't want them bringing in Jones in the first place.

Didn't want him in the camp or didn't want him to fight Shogun? Either way, what a ****ing sook.

Didn't want him in the camp
“Greg brought this situation about,” Evans wrote. “He brought Jones on board a while back against my wishes [and] here we [are] today. I decided [to] leave Greg because I felt like he didn’t have my best interest anymore. Greg is not the same coach he [used to be].”

Just watched Mousasi v Jardine; Gegard was robbed.
Jardine only had two things going for him, takedowns and lead leg kicks. He didn't use the leg kicks enough, and he did nothing with the takedowns. Mousasi was landing strikes with ease, Jardine was gassed, pissing blood and backpedalling.
Gegard won that 9-9, 10-9, 10-8

i don't think he even had take downs
he had them in the first round where he took Gegard down almost at will (I think Gegard is just way too relaxed with being on his back, not his fault, problem is with how takedowns are scored), but Gegard took him down at will in the 2nd and 3rd
there is absolutely NO WAY Jardine was anywhere near to winning the 2nd and 3rd, which is what makes the draw truley absurd.

****ing wing chun
the way he blocks attacks are horrible
leaving his arm dropped for body kicks...aside from getting your forearm/elbow ****ed up from a solid shot, you leave your head open for a shot if you misjudge where the strike is going to land.
blocking with his forearm for the headkick...urghghrgh enjoy getting your forearm broken
etc etc

For some reason I thought it was going to be okay, despite the lack of a true main event.
I was wrong.
Thiago Alves was the biggest let down - Story did his homework and stuck to the plan, so good job to him.

UFC needs to give Roy an ultimatum; lose weight or go back to the bush leagues. He was at least in decent shape when he beat Mir at Grappler's Quest all those years ago.

I'll also add that while it may have scaled back dramatically, it was nice to see DREAM put on another event.

Yeah I think that would have to just about be a certainty. Can't see him getting another big match-up after that effort.

Missed the TUF finale.
Heard that Pettis vs Guida was a bit boring
UFC131 next week should be good. Who do you guys have winning?
nonch
08-06-2011, 12:22 AM
Nothing boring about the Guida v Petis match - it was a battle on the ground but a very entertaining one.
Disappointed that Ramsay didn't win, but I didn't think he was going to - Ferguson was very impressive.
The two prelim bouts that were shown at the end were both great fights too.
As for 131, I don't know a lot about most of the fighters on the card, but looking forward to the main event and Maia v Munoz.
Have to go Dos Santos, but Carwin is as good a chance as anyone to beat him - should be a great fight.

He should have beaten Siver and Rafael :/
Not too sure how Bader lost to Tito also.

I always felt that with my interest waning in MMA, what with the demise of Japanese MMA, and the ever increasing (and insufferable) Zuffa-verse, that K-1 would always be there like a loyal friend.
Unfortunately K-1 has been sold to Japanese real estate firm Barbizon, with FEG choosing to hang onto DREAM. To make matters ever more confusing the sale doesn't include K-1 Max or K-1 Koshien.

Cross training has basically diluted the diversity you used to see. That was what was so good about having a solid Japanese presence; when you get tired of all the cookie cutter sprawl and brawlers, you'd can watch some submission focused fights.
I also feel UFC is putting on too many events, spreading their talent thin, and detracting from the spectacle. I used to watch every UFC I could, now you can easily skip a dud card because there'd be another PPV, Versus or Fight Night around the corner. Hell most of the time I'd just wait for a post event report and just download individual fights.

There's also the fact that fighters in the UFC are constantly under threat of being cut for either being too boring, losing, or simply not very marketable.
Lazlow
04-08-2011, 09:51 AM
Marloes Coenen, Jon Olav Einemo and Valetijn Overeem have been cut by Zuffa.
All 3 are Golden Glory fighters.
I smell a vendetta.

Akiyama will probably get cut for losing 3 straight
Hallman will probably get cut for letting the dogs out.

My expectations were low, but it was actually a pretty impressive show.
Rory MacDonald looked excellent, Brian Ebersole was brutal, Belfort looked like a monster compared to Akiyama and Rashad was probably as fit as he's ever been.
I don't know if Akiyama will get cut, but I'd think he would need to get down to welterweight - just looks too small to be a middleweight.
Hopefully Belfort gets another shot at Silva soon.

Yeah I don't think Yushin showed much in the way of game plan.
Looked worried before the fight started.
Looked away from Silva and refused to touch gloves - surely if you're fighting Anderson Silva the last thing you want to do is give him more reason to beat you.
Silva is just a freak - no one is going to get near him at middleweight.

I actually got to watch that live. After watching 122 the night before it was crazy to see Yushin in 134. It looked like he wasn't even trying, like her wasn't even there.
And its crazy to think that he is Japanese, not really known for their size, but the same height and weight as me.....god damn is he ripped.
By live I mean not a replay. wasn't actually there >.>

I think after he got knee'd in the clinch - he wanted to get out of there. Sucks for him. Was hoping he would try to repeat what Sonnen did.
So it looks like the first UFC on Fox event will have JDS vs Cain. Cannot wait for that fight!

I don't really like Gomi in the cage, he is a power puncher and one of the few people to actually use the corners of the ring effectively to trap and bomb on fighters.
Let alone how unmotivated and deflated he has fought since Pride died.
At least he is a proper LW and won't be fighting at a 5-10kg disadvantage like most weight cutting phobic Japanese.
So do I . I don't really like Gomi in the cage. That's a great forum for MMA fans like me. I also have some other channel for the latest UFC news, like Greenfeedz.com

Hey, does anyone have the link for that amazing fight a couple of years ago where the win was earned with a backflip kick KO? I remember hearing the victor shattered bones in his feet doing it.
A friend of mine is training for UFC style fights and I wanted to show him.
