It's definitely promising that they want to retcon Predator II and the AvP films, but I don't have high hopes for it based on my experience with the comics and novels written after Predator and Aliens were released (sort of how Star Wars continued in novel form after Ep. VI). That's not to say that the books are outright good or bad (some are brilliant, others lacklustre) but they have established a LOT of Predator customs and characteristics that are well accepted amongst fans.

From what I understand they were always planning on making the Spiderman origins movie and planned on releasing it after Spiderman 4. But after the stuff with Raimi, they just canned 4 and are now focusing on the origins movie.
So it's not totally implausible to think they already have directors in mind.
But, yeah, the source I read it off didn't seem all too reliable.

It must have been a snap decision to cancel it, only 3 days ago Malkovich was agreeing to be in Spiderman 4.

At first I thought, ugh, another reboot? but the more I see the better I feel about it. High school was a massive part of the comics, decades of stories and the original movie skipped all that in about 45mins. Plus Tobey was never good fit - okay, he wasn't all bad, but he's far from a wise-ass pest that spidey's seen as in the comics.

Just watched the bootleg avengers teaser at perez hilton. Hot damn, can I fast forward to next year already?

PS I think a spidey game in the mirrors edge engine (or style at least) would kick all kinds of arse after watching that.
