Hey guys, ive been practicing loads the last 6 months on my drawings in hope of getting a position as a concept artists for games or film in the near future. ive posted my work on art websites for critique, but thought id maybe get some tips/thoughts from regular gamers. Anyway, heres a handfull of my best stuff so far.
Final poster for an indie game which was on display at Avcon. Its was printed to over 3 meters . Because of the size and resolution, i was working with a 1.5 G file for a while!
EDIT: BTW, i know that dude in the foreground looks like he stole the Master Chiefs suit, i'll probably change the design before i send out a portfolio.

Not bad. I'd say you'd be able to find a job, surely?
Those first 2 pics... are they concept art for an indie game or were you inspired by an indie game?

You really need to practice perspective more, in almost all of those pictures there are objects that don't follow parallels and vanishing points.
Very good use of light and colour, though. I am envy.

Those first two where done for a mod for an indie game on display at this years Avcon in Adelaide. The top one is for a promo poster which was printed and hung on the wall. The second one was a quick texture/lighting/colour concept for a location within their map.

Aye true. My perspective skills are a real let-down. Most of my work is limited to one point and two-point perspective. i'd like to try 3-point but first i gotta knock those fundamentals into my head and apply it correctly. :)
Cheers for the compliment. I think my lighting and colour save some of the pictures. It hides the flaws in the structures.

Vin's right, the perspectives are way off in most of them. But if you just start following the rules, and quit the impressionist bullshit, you'll be fine. :p Everything else about them is fairly accomplished.

Go easy! I wouldn't say it's way off, I'd say it's off just enough in enough places to be disconcerting and confuse the eye.
I also don't know what you're on about with the impressionist comment, I don't really see anything impressionist at all about these pictures.

Hang on, you can't have it both ways, justifying the comment and then instantly calling it a joke.
For what it's worth (not much), I thought the artwork was great - even the sometimes wonky perspective didn't bother me so much. I thought your environmental/architectural stuff was much stronger than the people in the environments. But I am mostly a moron when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Man, i wish i could do impressionist paintings.
I wouldnt say the perspectives are way off in most of the environments. the only obvious one would be the top one (shown in spoiler). The others ive generally stuck to the 1&2 point perspectives and the blue/green futuristic one ive used three-point perspective, which distorts the buildings to add another dimension of depth.
The support bars are clearly out of perspective. LOL.

Just to give an idea of the kinds of perspective im doing, heres two others.

I think its probably my crude line work which maybe gives that illusion. ill try tightening that up a bit more with my later stuff. Any particular scenes which seem 'way off'?

Aye my characters/people are completely screwed. Time to get out the anatomy books. argh...
Cheers for the comments everyone. Really helps!

Jay: "Hang on, you can't have it both ways, justifying the comment and then instantly calling it a joke."
@Jay: I didn't say it was a joke; it was simply a comment that, while based on a small element of truth, was clearly tongue-in-cheek. I am certainly able to justify why the comment was valid, while pointing out that it was a very obvious exaggeration.

Any particular scenes which seem 'way off'?Ha, the three that you didn't post lines for were the three that I noticed it with. :p Particularly the bridge, which looks like it's leaning towards you, like a tilting rope bridge. I think it's something to do with the shading near where the bridge connects to the edge of the platform. Anyway, the rest of it is so solid.
