So it looks like EA Montreal are giving everybody's favourite masked, fist-bumping, air-guitaring, hetero life mate mercenaries another opportunity to accidentally save the world on their quest for cold, hard cash. Army of Two: The 40th Day (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/16/joystiq-impressions-army-of-two-the-40th-day/) has our heroes running their own PMC called Trans World Operations (no, seriously). Things go completely sideways for the pair while on a mission in Shanghai after a group called the 40th Day Initiative show up and start laying waste to the place (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/01/new-army-of-two-the-40th-day-trailer-gets-serious/). It's up to Salem and Rios to get to the bottom of things via their usual methods of blowing shit up and shooting everything else whilst cracking wise about the Wu-Tang Clan.
Along the way, they'll have to deal with some "difficult moral choices (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/23/new-army-of-two-40th-day-trailer-takes-aim-at-morality/)", weapon caches (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/03/impressions-inside-an-army-of-two-the-40th-day-weapons-cache/) and even a kid (http://www.joystiq.com/photos/army-of-two-40th-day-5-26-09/2035180/) (first person to make a Shortround joke is getting throat-punched :p). They're even going to dial down the bromance a couple of notches (http://content.usatoday.com/communities/gamehunters/post/2009/06/68203957/1?csp=34).
Their latest trailer has Salem and Rios stopping by EA Montreal's office for a visit (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/05/salem-and-rio-visit-ea-montreal-in-bizarre-army-of-two-trailer/#comments). So, who's ready to grab their gold-encrusted assault rifles and buddy cop their way through China?

**** the haters, the bromance was awesome!

I played the original with my brother, so the bromance was very entertaining. After every gunfight we'd make Salema and Rios spend a minute or so fist bumping, playing air guitar and slapping each other upside the head.
I'll pick this one up if they fix the cover system, which I thought was decent until I played anything else.

Couple of bits of news. Firstly, there's another even more serious trailer (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/19/army-of-two-the-40th-day-just-got-even-more-serious/) out for Gamescom. Secondly, the game has been delayed until January 8th, 2010 (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/13/army-of-two-the-40th-day-joins-the-q1-2010-party/) for Europe and January 12th for the US. They're also offering a pre-order bonus (http://www.kotaku.com.au/2009/08/army-of-two-the-40th-day-is-in-january/#more-349934) of early access to "Extraction", a multiplayer mode where teams of four players will fight waves of enemies as they move from point to point across a ruined city. Everyone else will get access to it a month later.
Interestingly, EA Montreal have also revealed that they'll be using their Telemetry software to collect feedback on how players are playing the game, including who's more "moral" in their "choices" between Europe and the US. After 40 days they'll be publishing this information, so it'll be interesting to see how it turns out.

Kotaku take a look at the zoo level of Ao2:40D and the gun customisation system. Apparently, there's about 8,000 possible combinations of gun parts you can use to create your own personalised death bringers (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ICallItVera).

That always takes into account every single possible variation of mods, not the 50 or so actual combinations people will end up using. Still, pretty cool.

GameTrailers has a three-part video walkthrough (http://www.gametrailers.com/video/exclusive-co-op-army-of-two/55722) of the co-op features including the "Lego with guns". It's kinda weird seeing him attach an AK47 barrel to an M4 base, though. :p

the only game I actually want and will end up buying in the new year. Me and my flatmate had a blast going through the first one earlier in the year. Definitly the best co-op foucussed game I've played

Just gave the demo a go, it's seems to feel a lot better to play than the original. It'd probably be even better not playing with a random. :P

I heard that. I was annoyed they didn't let you play solo. I tried jumping in with a random but he must've been American because the lag was pretty nasty. Made fine aiming impossible because I could only move my view in segments.

No solo play at all?
Just co-op online and split screen?

Pretty much.

****ing brilliant PS3 demo!!!
I host a public game and than when I start it my screen simple goes black and nothing else happens.

Well, to be fair, it's not really a demo, it's just a outlet for the developers to try this "fade to black" technology they've been working on.

The game's out early at EB, GAME and JB. GAME's online price is $89 with free shipping and JB currently has the cheapest in-store price at $99.

A whole new level of forced co-op...

How is it, Shorty? I had good fun the one time we played the original.

Pretty good, so far. The friendly AI seems better, the enemies are manageable on Normal (though I fear there could be some cheapness on Contractor), the new weapon customisation system is pretty cool if a little short in some areas (only three pistols, for example) and the plot is simultaneously interesting and chaotic.

Is the bromance quantity suitable though. Or has it gone all TOO serious on our couch bound arses?
I want celebratory air guitar post genocide(s).

Got given this for my birthday, if anyone's up for some co-op let me know, I should be down for some.
From what I've seen of a mate playing through it (he's had it since launch) the bromance quantity is still quite suitable, right down to joking about having sex with pandas. It also seems to suit the setting better than its predecessor.

My favourite line was the one after you choose not to shoot the tiger.
"I got no problem shooting people. Just not animals."
"You're a good boy, Charlie Brown."
The fact that it's being delivered by Nolan North makes it that little bit funnier.

I really should get around to playing through the actual game. :P I've only played the first mission and a bit - makes for some good co-op, though.
