View Full Version : Games that need to be remade for XLA/PSN

Pretty sure we had a similar thread somewhere but that's probably gone now too

After reading about the disappointing TMNT:Turtles in Time Re-Shelled HD (which was never really a 'classic' and gets boring quite quickly after a single playthrough) I remembered back to the original TMNT arcade game (which has been done) but possibly the best imo was Simpsons Arcade

lW2qT52zLSU

Now in some ways the gameplay seems a touch dated but if it was revamped to HD, get the cast to do some new lines and possibly make some funny jokes (if that's even possible nowadays) and slightly adjust the storyline it could be very entertaining. There were a lot of good ideas in the Konami classic, ones that still haven't been surpassed by all the other Simpson games (anyone remember the Krusty the Clown Snes game?)

Anyone else have any ideas? We may be repeating ourselves from the old thread but just maybe we've suddenly thought of something that hadn't been mentioned

Oh most definitely.

Also I'd love to see a HD update of Rocket Knight Adventures, although the game was already full of character and had a great art direction, so they had better leave those alone...and also they had better not touch the gameplay either!

So basically you want the game to be remade for HD, but it has to remain exactly as it is now? :p

Well we all know the best games were in the past, of course! >_>

But I'm sure they could smooth everything out and give it a resolution kick and it could still keep all those things! And also if they updated it they could also fix that slowdown that happens in the game (although now that I think about it that helped as much as it annoyed...)

IIRC there were also some sound and visual glitching too which could be cleaned up just to make things more awesome.

Monster Land as well, those would be awesome.

You do realise there were 2 exceptional 2D platformers featuring Earthworm Jim prior to the relase of that dog average N64 game which wasn't developed by Shiny Entertainment.

I also hope you realise that if you had pubes in your mouth, you were in fact doing the sucking, and not the game.

He wasn't talking about the shitty N64 game which everyone already knows is shit, he was talking about the original 2D game which is still a pretty darn good game. What you said is akin to saying "Sonic The Hedgehog sucks arse, I played the Xbox 360 game and it sucked so hard etc etc". Seriously, this is why we need the rep system back. :p

Other games I'd to see re-released would be:

PSP store: AFL '98, The Unholy War
VC: Space Station Silicon Valley
XB Classics: Beyond Good and Evil (so I can play it before the sequel comes out!)

You abused the rep system, it was always a stupid thing to have.

I'm fine with HD remakes as long as the art of the classics stays intact. Turtles in Time is an extremely bad example of an HD remake, it did absolutely nothing to improve on the original. It made it worse, not better, wtf is up with the 8 way attacking?

Nice thread topic. But it would be better if people actually say what they mean instead of listing games.

Do want to see a RE-RELEASE (with suitably resolution for new TV, with original graphics)?
Do you want a REMAKE (new game, based on an existing game)?

Just noticed that the topic is "REMAKE" but most people are listing games they want' re-released. It just makes more sense if you specify what you would like to see.

I'd love to see Simpsons arcade (as is) on live arcade - it's a short but fun four player game and STILL the best simpsons game ever IMO. Good casual game too (with unlimited credits thank you very much).

What companies need to do is remake games true to the original. I keep hearing a lot of bad about the Turtles in Time remake. Going ahead and remaking, without asking what the public wants is just stupid. Companies have a lot to learn from Capcom.

I actually think the art style of the new Turtles in Time game is really good, and looks a lot better in the finished product that the videos suggested. But yes, I do agree that they made the game worse. They changed the fighting engine and it's crap now, I mean you can throw guys at the screen without even having to stun them! One hit kills FTL.

Australian Rugby League

What's wrong with Rugby League 2: World Cup Edition on PS2?

I suppose the original is closer to your... vision! I loved Monster Land/Dragons Trap & Monster World (the one on the Mega Drive which was more like a Dragons Trap remix bur FAR easier on the eye).

Oh yes! We imported the Snes version when it came out, then hooked up our controller adapter so we could control all 3 characters. So much easier that way. I think you'd have to leave it at 3 characters, adding an extra one for a remake seems a bit risky

Otherwise they can introduce the idea of hiring mercenaries like you could in Diablo 2 or Shadowrun. Or perhaps one of the item merchants can be a playable character and is responsible for handing out candy, reviving knocked out characters, etc.

The 4th character can be NEKO so you can insult him in person for not selling you enough items you needed.

The 3P was a bit rubbish really, on 2P it was alright - but with three people all you would see is menu screens and items for 10 minutes at a time, interrrupted sometimes with actual gameplay.

If they kept the 3P it would ideally be suited to Live Arcade sort of thing, but allow all three people to choose their menu bullshit at the same time (not one after another), preferrably in real time, otherwise it would be good on DS with the same changes to the combat / menu selection.

Oh, and if it ends up on the DS (most likely place) they should make the text a bit larger, so that unlike Chrono Trigger on DS, I will be able to actually READ the bloody text.

Sometimes I wonder if anyone from the mighty Nintendo actually LOOKS at the re-released games on DS before releasing them, too often the text is horribly small - and unlike GBA games, I can't play them on my TV.

They only got two games into the story. Abe's Odyssey was the first and Munch's Odyssey was the second. Abe's Exodus and Stanger's Wrath were considered spin offs. So you still owe us three games Oddworld!

As for HD rereleases, I'll put my vote in for Guardian Heroes and NBA Jam: TE. If they got that Goldeneyea HD out as well that would pretty much cover all the multiplayer gaming from my youth
