In this thread, we vent our frustrations with games we're currently playing.

I'm playing MagicBall for PSN right now. You don't get extra lives when you continue, instead you repeat with the amount of lives you got to that level with. I'm raging doing this one level with 1 life OVER AND OVER.

This is a PC version of said game. Themed Arkanoid.

Most recent one, the desert 'world' in Overlord, where about 6 times now one of those ****ing sandworms has killed my entire army in one shot, and each time I've forgotten to save in between beating each one meaning I have to start right back from the beginning of the world again.

That was last week and I still haven't played the game again since.

OP, I hate it when you have to decide between redoing a massive section or finishing the last section with an impossibly small amount of life. I'm really stubborn and always opt for the second option.

Yeah, I'm playing through Resident Evil 4 at the moment, and there's been a heap of times where I've reset the game and tried to go through another section without using as much ammo as the last time.

A few current ones:

- Battlefield: 1943, people who watch enemies take the base so they can kill them and score 30 pts themselves, I've been blocked in twice by thicko ****s who do this.

- Sonic Unleashed, Adabat boss "Egg Lancer".. move and you fall/die! Lovely >_>

- Resident Evil 5 (yes still playing it) Up to a part where a lever needs to be pulled (naturally) and Sheva and I get split up and all these things appear (you know the things with 4 legs that grab you with their tongue), WTF..

Splosion man.

Some of the timed challenges are ridiculous. They basically require absolute perfection when it comes to timing jumps, and if you mess up a jump right at the start you wont be able to make it. Not sure if I just suck at that kind of thing but one of the levels seriously took me about 30 mins of repeated attempts. It's the kinda game that you should play in short bursts, or it gets super frustrating.

Luckily I finished it on Saturday.

Speaking of rage, the profanities that Watchers Eye makes when his gun/dispenser/teleports are destroyed in TF2 are quite amusing. :p

That section in particular is absolutely arse in single player. Sheva doesn't even bother pulling the lever when she gets into the room - she just unlocks the door and leaves it up to you to do it, even though by then the room is absolutely writhing with Lickers. In multi, it's much more simple: I went up there, planted a bunch of mines, and when the lickers came I killed them all while Shorty dealt with the few who came at him/provided some sniper assistance. We got mad amounts of treasure for taking this approach, too.

If you're playing single player you're an idiot if you let Sheva go up on the walkway to jump into the building and pull the lever, you go up the elevator and do the damn job yourself! (While getting a number of treasures along the way )

i tried to get back into my game of fallout 3 the other day after about a 6 month break.

Starting off from my last save in rivet city, i couldn't remember what quest i was meant to be doing and couldn't remember what interactions (if any) i'd had with the NPC's. I wandered about for a bit having occasional fruitless conversations and remembering fragments of plot. Eventually i checked my quest log (which was pretty unhelpful) and decided to try the declaration of Independence fetch quest 'cos it sounded achievable. After about half an hour of not being able to get to the damn national archives because of obstructing rubble i figured i'd better give the subway a try. this lead to immediate zombie death.

i gave up after that and honestly, the thought of going back to it again makes me feel sick.

moral: if you are playing fallout 3 and enjoying it, do not take a six month break from it because it will become punishingly incomprehensible.

Had an incident last week where I picked up Endwar on PS3 cheap, with a mic. Not sure if it was the mic in need of better 'calibrating' (even though I spent ages trying to get it right), but I was going ******ing MENTAL at the game because it either didn't understand what I was saying or just being a stubborn pig of a thing and not letting me do the most basic of things. Went something like this:

Me: "Unit one move to Alpha."
Game: "Sorry sir, can't do that."
Me: UGH! "Unit one, move to sierra."
Game: "Sorry sir, can't do that."
Me: "Unit 2, attack (target) 1."
Game: "Sorry sir, can't do that."
Me: "Unit 1, go ****** yourself!!"
<Unit 1 attacks nearest target>

......and so-on and so-forth. I wrestled with it for a good half-hour or so before tossing the mic across the room in sheer rage!
......think I'll flog the game on Ebay to some unsuspecting sod......

Recently completed that quest (I play Fallout3 sporadically in between other games, otherwise I stay up all night and am too F'd to work).

The RAGE part was fluffing around to get my lock pick skill up after I did like 70% of the quest - killing everything, getting to the point where I needed 50+ lock pick skill to get into the final area with the robots and the actual document. I looked for alternative ways in, but there did not seem to be any.

Didn't hurt that I primarily used all the local sewers to get around before I got to the area, so I just did other quests then "warped" back to the spot when I had high enough lock pick. Other areas in the game I could always find alternative routes, this was the first time where it seemed like if you didn't have the appropriate SKILL stats, you were ****ed.

*Had some frustration at the "BIG TOWN" quest where you defend a group of total losers from being attacked by mutants. First couple of attempts the mutants ravaged the town, viking style and not many left after I killed them. So then I loaded my game, went to the garbage can I stored my mini-nuke gun in, back to big town - then exploded the bastards all in one shot, half killing myself but keeping ALL the idiotic townspeople alive.

yeah it's a huge problem as i found out and one that ubisoft don't seem to want to fix. it's to do with the final hunter fight. quite often when you beat him the cutscene won't play properly and the game will think you haven't beaten him, when you have. so when you go back to the temple after beating all the bosses, the door is still blocked off. teaches me to keep older saves :(

My most recent gaming rage was induced by the Magic the Gathering XBLA game. Having played MTG for a few years in high school I bumped up the difficulty so as to no win so easily. Unfortunately on the two higher difficulty levels the game cheats by always giving you a bad hand compared to your opponent that gets a dream hand nearly everytime. Rage!

It's annoying since you can win easily enough with an average hand when you know what you're doing. Your lucky if you even get that though. Most of the time you either get too much mana and no spells or the other way around. I hate it went the difficulty is artificial.

Harvest Moon on the nintydius.

I'm off work sick so I thought I'd give this a decent shot, borrowed off a friend.

I've built up a little section of crops and everythings going great.

Then suddenly I'm in a 255 level mine being chased by psychotic chickens, and my avatar keeps pausing for seconds to wipe his brow, or sit down, completely out of the players control, because "poor little farmer boy is tired" while said chickens are pecking him to death. Because I know if psychotic chickens are pecking holes in my ankles my first priority's gonna be wiping the sweat off my brow.

Completely idiotic using mechanics intended for a strategy game in an action section. It's so lazy.

Then, I'm on the last level, I save the game in case something stuffs up, and the farmer dies, not because he's attacked, but by swinging his hammer which made him too exhausted. I reboot up the last save game, the monsters don't come back, and the trigger for completing the level is vanquishing the last one. Even though there were monsters left when I saved, they've vanished. So there's nothing I can do. My friend I borrowed the game off uses the other saved game space, there's only two. And all my time so far had gone into farming strawberries for that mine run. God I hate 90% (or more) of videogames nowadays.

The Terminator Salvation health system is really dodgy. Your health only regenerates after you've finished a section but there are no health packs, so you can't boost your health mid-battle. It's like the worst of both worlds.

The checkpoints are also badly placed, often before pre-section cutscenes or at too-long intervals.

System Shock 2: Gotta kill this stuff in the elevator shaft by putting these plug things into 3 machines. Can't find the third plug thing, have searched high and low, even the mutant's I killed at the start of the level. Walkthroughs don't help, goddammit.

IIRC there's two in a little room that you have to jump through a window to get into, I can't remember whether the other one is (I think around the snow area). Although I think there is an extra container on the deck somewhere too.

...holy shit, you just out-did every walkthrough on the internet!

Love you, dude! <3

Playing Dead Rising, accidentally hit Greg a couple of times with the small chainsaw when he was leading me to the airduct. Problem 1 - he doesn't join your group until you get to the toilets, so I couldn't give him any health items. Problem 2 - being low on health, he promptly ran straight to EVERY GODDAMN ZOMBIE ON THE WAY THERE. In trying to save his dopey arse I jump-kicked him to death. Lost about an hour of progress.

Also, 7-day survivor requires about 14 hours of continuous play, with no option to save.

I had a similar problem with the woman I found in the jewelery store. It was bad enough that she was crying hysterically the whole time but when she kept breaking away from my handhold to run somewhere else (a somewhere else that was usually full of zombies), I had half a mind to leave her behind.

It also doesn't help that you're not very effective until you level up a bunch.

But you carry that one? If I'm not trying to save ALL of them, if they act like twits I leave them to their fate.

Aaron Swoop is my most hated game character ever, as well.

Force Unleashed. Start of the DeathStar level and trying to eliminate every enemy in the hangar. Grr.
PS. is Starkillers appearance based off a real dude? He looks hard-out like the fulla on Smallville

IIRC you have to hold her hand all the way, so no. But yeah, all the survivors seem to suffer from Too Dumb To Live syndrome.

Yes he is based on the voice actor. He was also in Smallville. Well spotted.

F*** you, Japan, make a new game. Everyone has played Resident Fantasy Solid 12!

Go back to your boring action games featuring unoriginal characters from books.

That's true, but man, I'm hanging out for Resident Fantasy Solid 13! :)

I ****ING HATE QUICK TIME EVENTS. Particularly non-relevant ones that are just chucked in for no reason. Recent examples are Wet, where they chuck them in all over the place, and Academy of Champions (a kid-friendly soccer game for Wii) where you have to QTE just to jostle for the ball.

****, I wish QTEs would get involved in a murder-suicide with Tower Defence games.

You'd love Clive Barker's Clive Barker's Jericho by Clive Barker (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/2633-Zero-Punctuation-Clive-Barker-s-Jericho). They just love to shove them in there without warning.
