Asking for some advice here.

I need a stick for the PS3 and I will get BB from play-asia. Can someone suggest which stick and why (I have heard HRAP is supposed to be good but cant really find anything to back it up), or should I just buy BB and stick with the controller until I get the Tekken SE with the stick?

Sticks considered:

Get this one: http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-zl-77-3-49-en-15-HORI-70-2xsu.html

All the sticks you listed are basically the same (Sanwa stick, Hori buttons), except the first one (BlazBlue art, etc) is has buttons soldered to the PCB, so it's hard to mod or fix if a button breaks. The 2nd stick you listed is for X360, and the joystick is soldered. It's stock Sanwa, so it's still very good.

HRAP3 is the cheapest, plus everything uses quick disconnects. $120AU before shipping is a bargain, you could buy some Sanwa buttons for about $3US each, and it'd be the same as a TE which they charge $250-$300AU for.

Whatever the Tekken stick is, won't be better than that. Looking at how much the SE costs, I think it's likely to be fairly crap.

I guess the keyword here is before. How much is shipping? $60-$70?

Probably more to do with the fact its not a tiny object and actually warrants a price like that...

I heard they cover it in a paste made of unicorn blood mixed with diamonds and heroin.

I wish Sega still made the Virtua Stick High grade. It's my fav arcade stick ever. It was so cheap at the time too. I believe I paid 80USD before shipping.

How much did the shipping end up costing you?

I agree with everyone else on the VSHG. I feel most at home playing on hrap 1 or this stick more so than any other. I learned to play with a hrap 1. I've only used a VSHG on 3 occasions.

Not shipped yet, but when it does I will post the price.

As a further note: Does anyone know if getting the jap version:
HORI Real Arcade Pro Stick 3 (PlayStation3, Japan) makes any difference to getting say a US controller, i thought controllers/sticks worked irrespective of region.

Controllers have no region lock whatsoever. It'll be fine.

Insano: It should still give you a shipping estimate right? D:

The day someone invents controller region locking is the day that I starting walking down the path of alcoholism.

I figure it is best to be prepared so I started walking that path many years ago. :P

So grumpy at the moment. The restock shipment of original HRAP3's that Play Asia was getting in has been pushed back til next month instead of the originally listed August date. :(

I'm getting fed up being unable to bust out my distortion drives when I need them. I just can't manage 2xQCF motions on a pad with any degree of accuracy. It is so bad that in single player I have fallen back to using the right thumbstick for my DDs.

If it comes with the b!tch!ng and nagging that I get with what is attached to a real, they should be paying me to take it off their hands... Just what every dude needs a stick that wants marriage etc etc etc.... And the last thing I need is two of those things...

Christ on a crutch where is my stick already.... On another note pre-ordered the ps3 slim for Sweating Bullets bday present (he already knows... so its not ruining the surprise)...

I got BB, i have to say I am not that impressed thus far. Where the hell are you learning how to do all your stuff w/o a training/tute mode (sounds noobish) but I am having a better time with SFIV right now... Wanna link me some guides please.

Also it is best to start with someone who has a straightforward drive like Noel. Avoid using characters like Litchi who have drives that are not just simple attack buttons until you have your head around the mechanics.

One thing to keep in mind is that many character combos start of with light attacks that move to more powerful attacks as the combo progresses. In other word you should be able to start a combo against an opponent using normal attacks by starting with light punches/kicks moving to medium and finishing with heavy.

I'm far from a great player but also be aware of how quickly you can cover the screen (unless you are playing Tager of course). By holding the final forward motion of a forward dash you can maintain the movement until you stop or you hit the edge of the screen (unlike SFIV's dashes which cover a set distance each time).

Mine shipped yesterday.. can you link lizardlick order page... I want another (yes before the first one even gets here)...

Nice sticks.. have you gotten any converters from ps3 to 360... Since i have both consoles it would be win if sticks worked on both...

ElPresidente

Converters tend to add input lag which is a big no-no obviously.

The best solution is to get a good 360 stick and get it modded with a Cthulhu board which will put you in the enviable position of being able to use the stick on both machines.

As I'm not a dab-hand with solder I just went and bought the above despite having a TE already for my 360.

As for where to order them you can grab them from Play Asia here (http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-65f7-71-zl-77-1-49-en-15-real+arcade+pro-84-j-70-2xsu.html).

LizardLick (http://www.lizardlick.com) I used just to buy the new buttons I'm putting in.

My bad. ^^;

Not all converters. There are some extremely reliable PS2 to PS3 or PS2 to 360 converters that don't lag.

...but in this case you are right, there are only two PS3 to 360 converters that I can think of in existance. One of them lags like a bitch and the other drops inputs.

Damn your hide. :P

You don't happen to know anyone in the Melbourne area who is any good at Cthulhu modding TEs do you? I'm happy to pay but finding someone I know other people have used successfully is a pain.

Housemate bought this ages ago, I actually played it at Manifest.
Bang is the greatest thing to happen to Fighting Games since.... ever. I'm also a fan of Taokaka and Arakune (despite knowing how stupidly broken he is), although Zappa and Faust are still better <3 (it's like, a rule with Arksys games- I tend to like the more oddball characters).
Rachael has also overtaken Enchanted Arms' Queen of Ice as the biggest bitch in Videogame history. D:

I don't understand why people seem to love Bang so much. I mean he is a funny character in terms of the game lore but I find him boring to watch fight. Everyone else has this really tasty style to them as they fight (esp. Litchi... best use of a staff in a fighting game ever) but Bang feels fairly mediocre in comparison.

That said, I'm yet to checkout his Astral Finish which apparently includes his own theme song?

igotnewsuper8systemWRONG!
14-09-2009, 01:05 PM
You realise he can go super (also gets his own theme song for this)? Also I imagine quite a few people would find the counter you get with his D attacks handy.

ElPresidente
14-09-2009, 02:32 PM
Not so much talking about fighting mechanics as such... more just about looks and feel. I just find he looks too generic on screen compared to the others but hey, there is enough divergence in appearance between characters that everyone will look cool to someone.

Do you prefer the young boy whose dressed as a magician? Maybe people like the way that he resembles a DBZ character.

ElPresidente
14-09-2009, 03:00 PM
I dig his concept (not for any DBZ similarity, not that I can see one) but Litchi is my fav just for how she moves when she fights.

Maybe if they gave Bang a much bigger nail or he used it in battle more. I dunno.

I've preordered the official Tekken 6 stick recently, so hopefully it'll turn out good. It's made by hori tho, so at least the buttons and stick should be good. The wireless capability is what sold me.
