Moving information at the speed of light it will take anywhere between 4 and 20 minutes to travel one way between Earth and Mars, which means there will never be any real time games between the two planets.

Turns out my maths was terribly wrong to when I wrote the title, it's probably more like 480000 ping (1000 ping is a second right?).

Ping is measured in milliseconds from memory, yes.

Not much to say here - it'll be turn-based strategy until the quantum field theorists get back to us with the relevant breakthrough.

There may be some hope!
Apparently there is a tiny chance Mars could collide with Earth (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8093005.stm) in the future - which while being terrible, will be great for interplanetary ping before the event!
