I want to DL the Red faction DLC, but I bought the game on xbox since my ps3 was in the shop.
Has rock band unplugged been released in Aus ? I just find it strange that there is DLC for the game but I have not seen the game in the stores yet.

Great to see PSN store finally catching up to XBLM and offering trial versions that convert into the full version of the game without needing to redownload the entire game.
Now all they need to do is make this compulsory for all games on the store. *cough*
JubeiSaotome
16-08-2009, 07:56 AM
I wish they'd make trophies compulsory and retrospect it, so that every game has to have them.
I'd love some Everybody's Golf trophy action. Then I'd get right back into it (sad to say that's what it would take, but it certainly might kick start a new obsession with it).

Rectroactively enforcing trophies, as much as we might like it, would be a total dick move.
At least trophies are compulsory for all new games.

I played the Turtles in Time Reshelled demo ..... **** me it is a horrible piece of shit.
I don't care what people think but the art style makes a world of difference to start with. Everything in the game is so blannd to look at and Baxter looks retarded as hell.
As for the gameplay, wtf is up with the 8 way attacking? It is so stupid and crap. Playing through the first stage was so boring, bland and uninspiring. Yet when I load the game up on MAME, I LOVE IT!!!

Since i'm new to the PSN, what are your recommendations... the 'must haves' of the PSN world?
I was excited by Fat Princess, until I heard the lag was a huge issue.
I must say though, i'm very disappointed all PSN games don't come in demo form.

Wipeout and Flower are utterly outstanding. Gripshift is cool too. And Cuboid if you're into a bit of puzzling action.
I don't have heap of PSN content, but I have to say I really enjoy Tekken 5: DR (http://www.namcobandaigames.com/games/tekken5dr/), Pixeljunk: Eden (http://pixeljunk.jp/library/Eden/) and Wipeout HD (http://www.wipeouthd.com/en_AU/index.html).
Don't get Tekken 5 unless you love Tekken. I have an unnatural obsession with that game and I love it to bits. But I concede it's a PS2/PSP game.
But I think Eden and Wipeout HD are excellent titles and should probably be pre-installed on every PS3. Not only are they great games, but they are great experiences. Both have excellent art direction, music and style.
I've heard good things about Flower and Shatter, but I can't recommend something I haven't played yet...

Just grabbed Flower and Shatter, will see how they go. Trine is out, but if it's available for XBL, i'll grab the demo off that first.
I'm keen to pick up Wipeout, but not right now. I liked it on the PSP, and everyone raves about it, but i'm interested in what's unique to the PSN. Flower and Shatter will do the job for now... and I might also give in to buy Fat Princess too.

Flower - A very unique an interesting 'game'... which seems more to me like a relaxation sim than an actual game. Can't say i'm a huge fan of Six Axis controls, but Flower's controls are good enough that it doesn't become too frustrating. My only real gripe is that the game tells you absolutely NOTHING in regard to what it is, or how it's played... and while it's such a simple game that it doesn't really need it, there are a couple of things that should be explained... mainly those flower buds you get at the end of the level and what they represent. I figure they're akin to a ranking or trophy, but what do I have to do to get 3? Is it speed? Am I missing a flower? Nothing but speculation leaves me feeling a little frustrated.
Shatter - Interesting take on the old brick breaking games... although i'm not sure if I can see it holding my attention for long. At $10 though, I don't mind if I get a couple of good sessions out of it.

Just played the Lost Planet 2 demo, can't say I'm interested what so ever.
I loved the first game to death, it was old school to it's core in my opinion with epic bosses that kicked your arse. The entire game literally kicked your arse left, right and center if you put it on hard. Which is exactly what I loved.
This new Lost Planet 2, apparently it's a sequel, feels to it's for babies that don't like dying. There is absolutely no sense of urgency and no sense of danger at all. You die and you simply respawn to continue the fight, I want my game over screen damn it telling me that I suck!!!
T-ENG is also a complete waste as it's utterly useless. It allows you to hold down start to refill your energy and to do that you have to run away from the fight and hide. The game bloody well encourages you to turtle, turtling is for ****ing pussies!!!!
The original game automatically refilled your energy because it kicked your arse so damn hard. Not that that made the game any easier, no, because you had to juggle your energy with natures cold wrath. If you let your T-ENG drain to zero due to the cold your energy no longer refilled. The game kept you on the move hunting down T-ENG so that you wouldn't die and so that you could pilot mechs.
Please Capcom give me my real sequel!!!

Final Fantasy VIII is up & so is the Gran Turismo 5 demo. With FFVIII though I haven't bothered checking whether its the US store only (for US$9.99) or the AU store as well :p I hate it how they double the prices of psone games for ones we actually want to buy. I finally tried the demo for Mushroom Wars and I quite liked it. I will be making my purchase very shortly.
The concept is very simple, you start with a single base which slowly regenerates soldiers. You can levels base up, the more it's leveled up the faster soldiers generate.
On the playing field are other buildings/bases which have numbers on them, the number roughly represents how many soldiers you need to take it over. Meanwhile there is an opposing team trying to take over the buildings too. First one to take over all buildings wins.
Lastly of course there are various building types like turrets too.

I hate PSN. So many good things there. I just bought guilty gear and street fighter 2 turbo hd remix or whatever. Both pretty cool, got me an extra controller so I wanted some fighting games ASAP before SSFIV.
Also played the demos of Mushroom Wars, PJ Monsters, Crystal Defenders, Monster Hunter, and Dissidia. MW is insanely cool, along with Monsters. Trying hard not to spend all my money :/
@ ad-rock
You can absolutely stop start it, though if you turn the system off and have it in standby mode i think the download continues anyway if you're still plugged in.
As for filesize display, it certainly tells you, but whether that's before purchase or after i can't remember.
Agreed, re: the burgeoning awesomeness of the PSN. Flower, Braid, Wipeout, Super Stardust, Cuboid, Critter Crunch - some great stuff.

Noob questions:
[I]When looking at downloads from the store, is there a way to see the file size prior to purchase?
I don't think so. It definately tells you the size prior to you downloading it, however.
Your best bet to find out the download size before then is to look for an online review and find the details there.
Also, do you have to complete the download in one hit, or can you stop and start it?
Most downloads can be done in the background, and anything being downloaded in the background can also be paused. Essential dowloads like game or system updates are different and you have to wait to finish them in one go (I believe). Although you can set a system update to turn off the PS3 once it's done.
I haven't ever shut the system off mid-download, however.

Everyday Shooter is nowhere near as good as it first appears. It's probably the best argument in favour of mandatory demo modes on the PSN store. Get the actually-pretty-fun Dark Mist if you really need a twin-stick shooter fix.
Also, being able to see the size of a download before purchasing it is my #1 most wanted feature of PSN Store.
RunningMild
26-02-2010, 06:12 PM
So I got my PS3 today. Here's what happened:
- Discovered that Riff is not compatible with PSP and PS3, so I had to pay extra for the exclusive PS3 version which is absolutely identical, right down to the 8-way shooting (but easier to play thanks to the PS3's sticks). Why not just have one version compatible with both consoles? Why not add full 360 degree shooting if the versions are exclusive? Massive rip-off. (good game though)
- Same thing happened with flOw. Two exclusive versions and I bet they're identical. No way am I paying extra to see it in HD when it's already really good on PSP.
- Downloaded Noby Noby Boy, but it required a monster patch that took longer to download than the console's own system update. Why is that? What did they add/fix?
- Downloaded Flower, but it won't install. It gets to 14% before saying an error occurred. I tried re-downloading it and the same thing happened.
Verdict: PS3's online service is just as shithouse as the PSP's, maybe more so.
Everyday Shooter is nowhere near as good as it first appears. It's probably the best argument in favour of mandatory demo modes on the PSN store.
It did have a demo. Must have been PSP only or something.
I haven't had the problem with the service (except the Noby Noby one - seriously, if they build patches why aren't they automatically added to the game for future downloads?). Keep trying with Flower - totally worth your time.
I'm currently downloading the God of War 3 demo. It is a monumental 2.6Gb.

I've had none of those problems. You should read the games info before buying it, they say if they are cross comparable or not. As for game patching and installs, I'm pretty sure that there's different download servers for each company/publisher's patching.

You should be able to buy PSN Cards from game retailers now. If you decide to set up a US or JP account, you can most likely purchase ones for those countries online too.

@ Aus Ninja- Yeah, the only difficult bit is entering a proper US address, but it's possible.
That bit is easy, you can enter any address at all and Google will help you with it. A simple search for any kind of buisness will provide you with all the address details you need. The best way IMO to get US PSN cards is maximus cards, not ebay. With ebay, a lot of the sellers will refuse to email codes, even if you have paid for them, with some US Sellers insisting on posting the cards out to you. Maximus cards email you the codes INSTANTLY, and give you the option to use aussie credit cards AND paypal (you can use your credit card through paypal so you can pay them instantly, rather than wait a week for an echeque to clear).
Here is their website (i have bought over $200 in US PSN cards and haven't had a problem yet)

Depends who you ask. I don't think it is because without the arcade peripherals it loses all it's appeal, and it's probably the most bare-bones flyer of this whole generation. I also don't like the controls, because they result in me barrel-rolling constantly when I'm just trying to aim.

Here's the thing, you're not really arguing subjective opinion beyond the fact you don't like the game. You're desperately trying to argue that the game is bad objectively and you're just coming across dumb.
I disagree. I gave my opinion, and everything else was merely responding to Jubei's comments. I never tried to objectively argue that the game is bad (though I can see how it might have sounded like I did), I was simply trying to justify why I didn't like it according to Jubei's responses.
My first comment was:
I don't think it is because without the arcade peripherals it loses all it's appeal, and it's probably the most bare-bones flyer of this whole generation. I also don't like the controls, because they result in me barrel-rolling constantly when I'm just trying to aim.
"without the arcade peripherals it loses all it's appeal" = poor game in it's own right, relies on a gimmick
"probably the most bare-bones flyer of this whole generation" = Shallow, boring, no variety, pales in comparison to contemporaries
"I also don't like the controls" = I also don't like the controls
All subjective opinions as to why I don't like the game. I also acknowledged that there are people who do like it, so I'm not forcing my opinion on anyone.
After my original opinion, the response was:
Well I guess it is a 2006 game
Which to me said 'It's allowed to be bad because it was released in 2006'. I disagreed, so I responded with:
But even compared to 2006 games it doesn't hold up IMO.
Subjective opinion.
I also mentioned later, in my own way, that the game doesn't even compare to games released in 1997 let alone 2006 (IMO of course). Ergo, this is a moot point. I made the comparison with a game that I believe is of the same genre. If you think this a poor argument, fair enough. It's not too important anyway.
Next, Jubei says:
I think you're expecting too much out of an ARCADE game.
So the only reason I dislike the game is because my expectations were unreasonable? My response is:
I didn't even think After Burner was very good in the arcade.
Again, subjective opinion.
Sure, I also mentioned that:
Maybe that's because my standards for a game that costs a dollar to play for a few minutes at a social outing are greatly different to my standards for a game that I can sit down and play for extended periods at home? ;)
Which I thought was a fair point, because it explains why this...
I think you're expecting too much out of an ARCADE game.
...is a fairly dodgy argument to begin with anyway.
And then of course we get:
Also, M, you're welcome not to like AfterBurner...but your argument is terrible.
AFAI can tell, my only 'argument' is that I didn't enjoy the game and that it's my personal opinion, so I responded to this statement with many rolleyes. :p
Once again, I can see why you might think I was trying to force my opinion onto others and make it objective and such, but that wasn't my intention. I merely gave a personal opinion, and then responded to the replies as subjectively as I possibly could. In a way, I feel like I'm being asked to justify and explain my opinion over and over when I shouldn't have to. I said the game was bad and I stressed that it was my opinion and no-one else's. Don't try and argue that my expectations are incorrect or that my standards are too high or that my reasons for disliking the game are a 'poor argument', just accept the fact that I don't like the game and move on.
You can accuse me of...
trying to argue that the game is bad objectively
...but I've never questioned anyone who said they loved the game. I respect their opinion and leave it at that. But when I say that I dislike the game, people feel the need to contest it and debate it and try to somehow prove that my opinion is wrong. It's ****ing stupid. If you can't handle the fact that people have differing opinions to yours, don't bother asking for opinions in a public thread.
Also, if I was trying to argue objectively that the game was bad, why did I start off by saying this?
Depends who you ask. I don't think it is because without the arcade peripherals it loses all it's appeal, and it's probably the most bare-bones flyer of this whole generation. I also don't like the controls, because they result in me barrel-rolling constantly when I'm just trying to aim.
However, some people seem to love it, so maybe you should check the XBL thread and find out why (if you don't get any responses here).

but it would help indecisive people like me get their credit cards out. if im not certain with a retail game i will rent it for a night from blockbuster, or get the trial from XBLA. but $20 is a fair amount for a PSN game just to take a leap of faith on in my opinion.

Castle Crashers is out on AU PSN.
Can someone confirm (I am at work) whether or not PixelJunk Shooter 2 has been released? I just noticed it on the PALGN release as released. Colour me excited!

Yeah, that bit.
Gave it a spin earlier, but could only play a 'bot match, as it just gave me constant error messages when I tried to jump on a local server.
Seems okay, if a bit ordinary. Nothing about it really makes it stand-out, although I like the gritty, grainy graphics, but the 'click right stick to sight-aim' control is annoying and feels unintuitive after so many shooters taking on the left-trigger sight-look (assuming I can sort that out in options, will have to look).
