View Full Version : The new mods...

Lets just say they aren't all that good.

This post:
http://www.hyper.com.au/forums/showpost.php?p=1102307&postcount=374

Kind of proves that letting everyone back who was banned, was either a bad move or people are just ****ing with those they don't like because they know nothing will be done about it.

Frozen Soul expertly diffuses the situation by insulting everyone:
As much as I love this increased activity, can we talk about something else? You are all acting crazy.

Nice to know that this fixed your boredom.

The argument went on, mainly with Banjo insulting me for playing videogames, and me calling him a ****ing idiot.

Finally the watcher's eye steps in to delete posts (good move!) but he makes sure to leave the cause of the whole thing, he didn't delete Banjo's post, just the pointless argument that followed.

I sent watchers a PM to let him know he ****ed up. He deleted half of the argument and didn't bother to delete the thing that incited it, or hand out any warnings or bannings. I suggested that he delete the whole thing, and ban/warn me + Banjo. His response:

Arguments are fine, to an extent - childish name calling is not. FYI, we have been trying to take a different approach to moderating lately. Everyone gets into arguments and gets carried away - telling you guys to knock it off should stop you. If you persist, warnings etc. would be issued. The argument ended, and therefore I achieved what I was aiming for. Though if you still want a warning, I'd be happy to oblige you.

Cheers,

watchers

This is just as bad as the last batch of mods. Focus on the real issue please. Someone does something unprovoked, like get their hands on posts from the mod forum, track down that person on youtube, rip their videos, dub over it with their posts in a stupid voice, and the mods are more concerned with the resulting argument because someone called the other one, "stupid." Which is worse?

I think this qualifies as harassment, stalking, whatever you want to call it. There's a nice big warning over Off Topic that harassment is actually being dealt with now, not ignored.

Basically just wanted to say that the mods here are shit, need to be replaced by people with common sense. Watchers, I said give me a warning if you want, because it will look less biased that way. I only attacked Banjo because he was being a dick to Aubergine and you + Frozen don't do anything about it. How ****ing stupid are you?

Even if it were stalking, expecting some form of justice (natural or otherwise) from this forum is just wasteful energy.

Contact your local e-authority (police or something) and ask for advice there rather than politically get others onto your waka.

Mr douchebag sir, I'm not saying a crime has been commited. I'm just pointing you towards the message above Off Topic that says this type of behaviour won't be tolerated.

If it's fine, I want the admins preferably a staff of Hyper to confirm. Then by all means, we will know what's allowed and what isn't. I was under the impression that this was definitely against the rules.

AranchineD: I don't care what your take on this is. I want to know from the admins what they think.

My argument is that the mods are weak as shit and don't enforce their own rules. They need to be replaced by people who aren't going to buckle when dickheads like you say they aren't cool. If you're pissed off or bored, then they're doing something right. People who can't discuss shit without attacking each other need to GTFO.

Ignoring, of course, the fact warnings they've already handed out to the people who said they "weren't cool" among others for legitimate reasons, and the benchmark there has already been set.

But of course that wouldn't go well with your argument at all, would it? Maybe the fact they didn't do what you said in your infinite wisdom what you think they should do IT BECAUSE THERE WASN'T ANY REASON FOR THEM TO DO IT.

And in what way, shape, or form does that respond to the post that you quoted?

I really think that's the wrong stance to take...

But do you honestly believe there was nothing wrong with those videos?

Is it? I don't go into somewhere like the Rhubarb or Discussion sub-forums on PCPP and start complaining about the forums and more strict rules there because I'm not an established member there and I don't really contribute a lot. don't you think that's fair enough? Why can the same relationship not be drawn to sub-forums here?

And no, there was nothing wrong with those videos, because they weren't really personal attacks again aubergine. If they were calling him a dirty mother beater who rapes five year olds I could understand outrage, but this is just parody without any real personal harassment.

That's what the mods seem to think too. They're wrong, you're wrong. I want the admins to be clear about what they think.

And yes all the name calling I'm doing is proving a point. They care more about reactions to bullshit, than real bullshit itself. They're poor judges of character, and have no idea what they're supposed to do.

If the admins agree with you and the mods, they should perma-ban me for my attacks on everyone in this thread. I don't want to be part of a community with these shitty rules.

I read over this whole fiasco after the mods had deleted most of it. As creepy as the original youtube post was, aubergine didn't contact us complaining about it. Now had this been another member that wasn't a former mod, then we probably would have deleted it immediately just to keep the peace, but he's a big boy who knows how this place works and I'm confident he would have contacted us if he felt threatened by it.

This is not to say that we want a forum where people do this stunt regularly, nor the onus always being on the victim to speak up (although it definitely helps us out) that's just how this particular situation panned out.

So where do we go from here? Do you want to throw things away over a weird dig someone made at another user?

Lex
14-08-2009, 09:40 AM

Personally I think the new mods are doing a pretty good job, especially considering how many new mods there are. I would prefer that discussions such as the one that's been going on in The Clean Slate/Interesting Dev/Forums Are Back Threads be moved on from, but if they bug me that much I don't have to read them. I know where they are.

That said, I think it's a dangerous game where you base the legitimacy of moderating decision on how popular they are. In this case I would argue that the rejection by some members of UC1's argument has as much to do with the negative view the offending posts gives of Aubergine and those users dislike of him rather than actually caring about the appropriateness of the approach you have taken.

Given the tag "FX-GTX Posting goodness" from the funny pics thread was removed because it was perceived to be "personal character attack and a form of baiting". I certainly think you could argue that Banjo Tooie's post with the youtube videos meets that same standard. In my opinion it goes well beyond that standard.

While I appreciate your leaping to my offense UC1, what stood out to me during your exchange with BJ was you called him a "fagget". Were I still a mod you'd likely have an infraction for that.
