So a co-op demo has been announced for Lost Planet 2, dropping on Xbox Live on August 19th (http://www.allagegaming.com/products/lost%20planet%202%20co-op%20demo%20coming%20to%20xbox%20live%20on%20augus t%2019th%E2%80%8F/)
Despite the flaws with the first game I really enjoyed it and it had some of the best explosions I'd ever seen in a game (at the time).
It's very cool that it isn't all set in the snow this time. The planet has begun terraforming and there are cityscapes and jungles amongst no doubt other locals to fight in.
Really looking forward to this one.

Ditto. I had a blast the whole way through, and would've loved multiplayer but I got into it a little late so the only people still left playing it were japanese, so lag was a bit of an issue.
Looking forward to what the sequel will bring.

I'm really excited for this.
One of the better third person multi-player games out there (although there isn't much to compete with...) and like dimorphic said, the explosions are amazing. The story was all over the place and didn't make any sense though.
I still remember accidently setting off a mini war with the Akrid and the other guys by fighting far too close to them, and the resulting mess of VS suits firing away, foot soldiers running around and two giant worm Akrid things flailing about was hilarious. Let me slip by into the next section of the level unnoticed too :)

Yeah i'm looking forward to this. Thought the first one was loads of fun. Just a cool atmosphere. I agree that the story was utter dirge though.
Can anyone confirm whether or not the co op is for the main campaign mode ala halo?
Also i hope they tighten up the controls a bit, the first one felt a little floaty to me.
I heard they got rid of that health draining mechanic as well, good thing.

Yeah, the co-op is for the main campaign, and even when you're playing by yourself you're going to have bots with you (which is just going to suck on the higher difficulties, I can tell now).
But bullcrap getting rid of the T-ENG mechanic is a good thing, that gave the whole feel of the original game, having to act quick and take down enemies as fast as you can with it always running down. With it only draining when you recover health and use energy weapons and such it could just mean moving forward inch by inch taking enemies down and take the whole fast pace and 'action' nature of the game out.

Seems to me that if they make the game remain playable at a fast pace (like the first one) then you'll still be able to play a fast pace. It's just that your health wont drain.
AranchineD
17-08-2009, 11:05 PM
Well your health didn't drain if you were good enough, on the higher difficulties it became pretty much a way of forcing you to become better at the game to survive, and I enjoyed doing that, with this now I just get the feeling that same sense of achievement won't be there with this new system.
Unless of course in this game, on higher difficulties, they kept your T-ENG constantly ticking down. I'd be perfectly happy with that.

Yeah i guess i can see your point. But i just played the first game on the normal difficulty setting and gung ho'd my way through anyway.
Oh by the way i've added ridiculous starship troopers quotes in the tags, please add to them people.

So demo tonight? I'm excited.
Any idea about how the coop works (in the demo or otherwise)?

Haha, I started the thread but forgot about the demo. Can't wait, who wants to hit the co-op up on XBL?

Hey, a demo is up for this? I didn't even know it was coming out this year, awesome. Hope it's better than the first game. It was okay - LOOKED amazing, but the cut scenes/story was totally ****ed up and I couldn't bring myself to keep playing it.

Just gave it a bash, you only get the boss fight but it is good fun. The gameplay seems to be the same but smoother and the graphics are very, very nice.
The demo is nothing special but damn this game looks good. Can't wait!

Does it have a due date yet?
I'm very poor right now and a bit puzzled as to how I'll get Batman and Halo ODST (but it will happen...) so hopefully it doesn't drop in September...

Jan 2010, along with Mass Effect 2, Bayonetta and Splinter Cell: Conviction :D
Jan 2010 is the new November 2009.

That's a massive relief. I've been applauding all these games being bumped to 2010. I should be back in the money by then if the cycle acts predictably.

sweet little demo.
basically just you and up to 3 co-op partners + a bunch of AI's running around trying to take down a big beastie.
you've gotta hit all its weak points in a specific order, eventually climbing inside it's torso and shooting its 'core'.
pretty confusing at first, but a solid half hour entertainment.
Xanafalgue
20-08-2009, 08:16 PM
Where is the core? INSIDE it? Jesus. I found it really difficult :( Looks gorgeous though.
Edit: I'm aware how stupid that looks :D I just figured that because its a game the core might be at the centre of its head with a big red arrow pointing at it with "CORE" flashing wildly.

I've been playing this demo a few times. Heaps of fun. I find the controls really interesting to how the crosshair isn't locked in the centre of the screen. Haven't played it online as I don't have Live but offline it's still fun. The grapple hook doesn't seem to shoot far enough to be of any use, I'm guessing you might be able to upgrade that in the game but I found it kinda useless.

I take it you haven't played the first? Because it's very useful in the first game. Depends on the layout of your area... wide open snow plains aren't really the best place for a grappling hook :P

I took it to the counter, yes, but talked myself out of it while they took forever signing two young bogans onto mobile phones. Notably the male bogan, who was incredibly long and skinny, had his entire ass escaped from his shorts. I don't mean the top of it, sure it had a thin underpant stretched over it but HIS WHOLE ASS was not in his pants-shorts.
This gave me time to realise how short I am on next weeks rent and put the game back.

Yeah, I just found its reach far too short. I wanted to zip around everywhere but I felt I had to be really close to terrain to get it to work.

Stupid shitty game, it's everything the first game isn't. Shouldn't be called Lost Planet 2, it should be called Tropical Planet Zero for Respawning Pussies!!!!!
This game has no difficulty what so ever.

Very informative post....do you actually have the game or are you playing the demo?

This is what turned me off the demo, hate when games do it, it's shit.

I can only assume he is playing the demo and if so the demo probably doesnt have a difficulty option, and probably isnt designed to be overly hard since they wouldn't want to scare away potential buyers. It's a quality overreaction though.
Edit: also why should it be called Tropical Planet Zero? I dont see how the climate conditions have anything to do with whether a planet is lost...

The core gameplay has changed, your energy no longer constantly drops and your no longer constantly fighting for survival.
If the full release game removes the respawn crap and re-introduces check points I'll be a happy camper.
The whole "fighting for survival" core aspect on hard in the first game is what drew me into it.

It's the same planet.
Apart from that I've posted what I thought about the game before in the thread, coincidentally I kinda agree with Creedy. But even if it is a bit dumbed down, I'll probably still play the hell out of it.

I think there was a control scheme in the original game that gave the option of keeping the cursor in the middle of the screen at all times, or having it free float around the screen. I tried both and found the latter was superior anyway, but you'd think the final game would give the same option regarding the aiming as the first.
