It means dont touch, because it doesnt have a format system. And if you did mess around with it, you just might mess up your defrags or something...

anyway i grabbed this from the web:
This is the Utility Partition and is not required for normal operation of the System. The partition is there so that the Diagnostics & EISA Configuration can be run without using a boot Disk. The EISA Configuration is a utility that came on a floppy dick with your pc and it is used to configure your system if there is an ISA or EISA device, it writes itself to that partition. Or if you run Dell Diagnostics which is on 5 floppy disks ( why they dont have it on a cd is beyond me) , they write themselves to this partition.

That means it does nothing, format that shit and fill it with porn.

Yep, if you have the boot disk for your machine go right ahead and wipe it out.

There is no need, it is an empty partition, there is nothing to lose.

9.76 GB is hardly what I would call a 'useful' amount for pron storage.

How would you know? The interface has nfi what filesystem it is formatted as.

I'm gathering by the naming of the C drive, the system came from Acer? Contact them and find out what's on it, and/or what format it's in. You might get lucky and find some info by googling your model name/number/whatever, too.

Either way, you need more space than that. Another 100GB should be well under $100, even for a laptop drive.

2.5" 500GB Western Digital hard drives are $125 these days. And a 1TB is coming soon.

Oddly, I bought 4 of them for $110 last week.

Then I RAIDed them together into a 2TB RAID10.

Laptop drives. I prefer them due to only needing power from USB, and also being a lot quieter.

oh, 2.5" Righty-o!

Meh, I have 6 SATA ports on my mb, currently 3 drives in there. Don't really bother with externals unless I actually need to take it around with me.

I was using some of these in my computer up until one failed last week. I guess 24/7 operation doesn't really agree with laptop drives.

My motherboard only has 4 SATA ports :(. If it had 6, I'd be running a 3TB RAID10.

Because it's a cheap motherboard.

No, why the **** would you need that much space? I've heard you're an anime freak, but COME ON.

Sif still be using ATA optical drives instead of SATA ones.

I'm really finding that laptop anything doesn't really suit the wear and abuse of being my main machine - I can't imagine mine seeing its second birthday. Really regretting not having a desktop, now. >_>

Also going to miss this (http://xkcd.com/490/).

My Macbook has held up really well as my main computer for a year and a half now.

No, why the **** would you need that much space? I've heard you're an anime freak, but COME ON.

Oddly, I did need it last week when I had to create nearly 600GB worth of DVD rips to use for screenings at Manifest.

(We can't legally do format conversions, so we can only make bitwise copies of each disc, rather than compressing them into MPEG4 or whatever.)

Also, I'm a firm believer that you can never have too much disk space.
