Time for the federal government to do what they promised/threatened to do and remove the bullshit AGs from the equation.

remove people's opinions from the equation, then we will have progress.

IN FACT, probably on any decent issue in today's society.

Go on facts, EVERYBODY WINS.

As long as they stop banning games from sale how is this a bad thing? There's quite a few games in the ma15+ category that should really be r rated (not all of course, but still a significant amount)

How does moving them to an R rating require scrapping the MA rating altogether?

It doesn't, but my point is assuming they stop banning games altogether, is this necessarily a bad thing?

FYI I'm undecided about this, but it's the first thing that came to my head.

I think consistancy is the key here. People are going understand the rating system better if it falls in line with other mediums like film and TV.

Which was my point - you could just as easily solve the problem by just putting a R rating on top of all that. It's not like we have a four-rating limit or something.

Azzaman

True, which makes me wonder what the ulterior motive here is. Or even if they will cease banning games as well.

I do believe that making ma15+ games r rated makes more sense for games like gta, fear, deadspace, etc. Less so for others of course.

I just think it leaves too big a gap between the M and R rating. MA was brought in for a reason.

Considering the motives of the people behind many of these moves and considering SA's history regarding classification law, I think it's safe to assume that any proposed change is going to be more restrictive than before.

Just read the article on this issue over at ign. This in combination with other r18+ laws will be fairly over the top. If they go the whole hog with with packaging and display it's gonna cause a massive headache for all game retailers...

South Australia set to enforce R18+ (http://palgn.com.au/19419/south-australia-set-to-enforce-r18/)

Oh we're getting an 18+ rating and NOBODY CARES.

X or bust.

Natrak

We're not getting it yet, but it's looking likely. I'm still unsure of how much it will change, but at the very least an R18+ rating will mean some games are more properly rated.

Someone just asked on News 24 whether the Norway shooter's love of violent games should make us rethink an R18+ rating..

Going on past history, someone stubbing their toe outside an EB Games would make us "rethink" a R rating.

I generally don't like to make derogatory comments towards religions and other peoples beliefs....but for f****s sake, these people are a bunch of idiots. Seamus makes some really good points, and then this bloke just rambles on about 112 reports from other knobfaced religious zealots.

What I find hilarious is that Breivik was fighting a perceived muslim invasion, fighting for a pro-Christian Europe.

His beliefs had more to do with his actions than any video game ever did.

Plus Jim Wallace doesn't miss an opportunity, no matter how tragic, to push the ACL's agenda;

I'm pretty sure I've asked this before but does it still count as trolling if he actually believes what he's saying? I thought part of the deal was that trolling just throws controversial opinions in to stir things up.

So apparently the Classification Review Board is chosen from "a range of backgrounds to broadly represent the Australian community"... as long as that range is "middle aged and white" (http://www.geordieguy.com/?p=1148). Which might explain things.

Our caucasian elders know what is good for us. If anything, coloured people would be more strict because they are all religious crazies.
