View Full Version : No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle.
“No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle continues the tale of punk anti-hero Travis Touchdown, the Japanese anime Otaku, and pro wrestling-obsessed assassin. Travis finds himself at the bottom of the UAA (United Assassins Association) rankings and must wage war to exact revenge and become the No. 1 assassin once again. The follow-up to the popular No More Heroes will offer fans infectious, fun gameplay that allows you to wield not just one, but two swords and face multiple bosses simultaneously in bigger-than-ever boss battles. No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle is scheduled to release January 2010 exclusively for the Nintendo Wii system. For more details, please visit: www.nomoreheroesgame.com.”
While it is an American release date Europe and Australia are expected to get the game only weeks later.
wow sooner than expected. Discuss.

For me it was the characters that made no more heroes good. Kept the game worth playing in my opinion. That and the overworld wasnt truly as bad as people said.

I enjoyed No More Heroes. I thought the art style and bosses were quite well done (that Baseball chick (number 2 I think) was freaky. It didn't matter how many times she fell down and played dead, I would feel compelled to go over and see what happened. I died a lot in that stage). There were parts that didn't seem to explain themselves too well (it wasn't until I went into the Dojo thing where your master lives that I realised he died in the fight against the granny with the big cannon).
The overworld was ok, but it did feel like a bit of a chore towards the end. It would have been nice if it opened itself up slowly and you got a chance to explore it bit by bit.

Well, when's the release date then? If the US gets it in a few days, we must get it pretty soon too. Here's hoping :D

Is just the 360 getting a port of this or the ps3 as well?
I don't think a port for NMH2 has been announced yet, but I'm sure the port of the first one is on both.

I sure the second game is ported! As fantastic (and as big of an improvement) as this one sounds, I still haven't finished the first, and I probably won't until the 360/PS3 port is released HOPEFULLY in English. By then, my purchase of the second game will depend on whether a port has been announced or not.
At least our release of the second game won't be the dodgy no-blood version.

Only the first game is getting a HD port (Japan only at the moment).
Anyway, the second game looks like it's everything good about the first game, removes the crap stuff and adds more awesome stuff!
Can't wait! CDWow has a PAL release date for 12th of March, so it seems like it's a couple of months off in PAL land .. not a big problem considiring the amount of excellent games coming out over the next couple of months anyway! :)

CDWOW must be the only place with a definite release date for this, 'cos no matter how hard I look, I can't find a damn thing on the local release!
Our system at work doesn't even have it listed, which just seems bizarre, unless we're not getting it at all. :(

According to the press release I got last Friday:
"Leading videogames publisher Rising Star Games today confirms that No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle, exclusively for the Nintendo Wii, is on track to be released in Australia and New Zealand at the end of April 2010."

Bah!! End of April?? WTF?! Maaaaaaaan, I love NMH and am gagging to get this, but the only game I'm buying come late-April is Red-Dead Redemption, no ifs and or buts.

See this is the reason the port of NMH1 shouldntve been announced until after the sequel came out. Sales of 2 have been sluggish so far and this whole "Wait for the superior version" bs, and releasing it alongside a bunch of big releases is definately going to affect sales.

Yeah I was thinking the same - I did hear SUDA 51 mention in an interview, when asked if there will be a 360 port of the second game coming out, he mentioned he doesn't know as he had no involvement in the port of the first. Bad management decisions, it seems.
I probably would have (1) rushed to finish the first and (2) been excited to buy the second if no port had been announced, but now I'm definitely waiting on both accounts!

I'd rather play the first in Japanese with HD graphics, blood, and proper controls with a copy of the English translation next to me for the first one though! Then we'll see if a port of the second game is possible! I'll definitely nab the sequel on Wii if there's nothing on the horizon, however.

Don't know about that "proper" controls comment .. the original game was designed with the Wii in mind after all .. and controls very well.

I know they were praised by tons of people, but I just thought they were too imprecise for the game and most of its combat. Combine that with the amount of waggle some of the longer boss battles required - the length wasn't an issue, just the continuous waggle - let's just say I'm very happy that NMH2 allegedly has a classic controller option :D

May give the sequel a go if the rumours of ports for 360/PS3 are true. I still refuse to buy the Wii - it has maybe 3 games I want - and that's not enough to buy it imo.

There are no rumors. The first is confirmed for PS3/360 in japan. Apart from that any other news is unbacked speculation.

So I picked this up today, and played through a few ranking matches, basically if you enjoyed the first No More Heroes you will enjoy this one.
Here's some observations:
1. It's more streamlined now, you can pretty much go through the entire story and not do any of the mini game stuff at all this time, as you don't need money to enter the next ranking fight. Money is to upgrade your beam katana, train, buy t-shirts, feed your cat and so on. So it's all optional really .. the only thing you would really need to spend money on for the main story is upgrading weapons / training so you're stonger for later fights.
2. There's no "overworld", it's basically a map screen of Santa Destroy where you select various places to warp to automatically, the first games "overworld" was pretty crap anyway, so unless you really liked kicking trash cans to find t-shits not much to miss here.
3. It's as outrageous and biazzre as ever (probably more so), I've already fought a guy who uses his women as uhh shields/weapons :p and a mecha robot battle. Pretty humourous as well, it's great to see Travis pretty much like his old self, perhaps even more arrogant this time since he kicked major ass in the first game.
4. The blood and gore is all here in the PAL version this time, (the first games PAL version was based on the Japanese version, which is again censored) it's extremely over the top and stylistic as opposed to being really gory though, but it's great to play in the proper uncensored manner, adds that bit more satisfication/impact on those special moves.
5. Special moves are even more what the **** just happened than last time as well!
6. All the mini games (i.e. side jobs to make money) are all based off retro classic games, and are pretty funny. Though Coconut collecting in 8 bit 2D is a lot more dangerous than it was in 3D :p
So yeah, so far enjoyable, if you enjoyed the first, it's a must play, if there was certain things about the first you didnt like (like the overworld) this one might be worth looking into because it's basically taken out the "boring filler stuff".
I'll be getting this in a minute, if it's already being sold at my local GAME. I don't like all the blood to be honest, the only thing I thought was stupid about the censorship last time was Holly's death scene.
Oh, wow, I've only put 20 minutes into this and already it's reminded me of pretty much everything I loved about the first one.
