A previous poster of Hyper is having issues registering with Hyper because of the obscure random questions they have to answer to sign up. Surely there is a better way to prevent bots from getting in? Can't we have a captcha system or at least a more simpler question to answer?

Yeah, come on guys, let's simplify the system a bit so Moggo can come back!

Wow we have questions on there! These are the ones I saw

Complete the game title - Super Mario G...
What is the name of the magazine attached to this forum?
Complete the game title - Guitar H...
Complete the game title - World of W...
Are you a human?
Are you a spambot?
Complete the game title - Mirror's E...
What computer device are you typing on?
Complete the game title - Prince of P...

Here's my answers:

alaxy
Hyper
ero
arcraft
yes
no
dge
keyboard (although if that one is doomed if they are signing up via PS3 or iPhone)
ersia

They don't seem so hard for someone who's been gaming for years but might stump a more casual gamer or some other random signing up. Maybe they should be more general like "What colour is the sky?"

I wonder if we should be encouraging gamers even more casual than the people we allready have :p

Completing the phrase with some disjointed pseudo-suffix may not strike some users as immediately logical - maybe the full phrase should also be specified as acceptable?

Christ, I'm 42 years old and totally uncool and I answered every question.

That previous member must be as sharp as a ball.

If we need to have a bot prevention question, I'd rather we just have a simple one like:

What is the name of the magazine attached to this forum?

"Describe in 500 words or less, the events leading up to the hacking of the Hyper forums"

Slippery

Slashy was all like "hey I'm a mod" and then some dude was like "pow I got your password son" and slashy was all "oh shit we got hacked" and then...

Anything of that quality or worse should be accepted.

I'm stunned. Really. We have questions like "Are you a human?" and you want them to be easier?

I am shocked that you discriminate against animals, aliens and plantlife from joining the forum.

Could the forums not use one of those random number / letter generator ones, where you have to type in the box below what is diplayed on the screen, they have a scratchy background and I assume the purpose is stop bots/macros.

I don't know how secure they are, but many reputable sites use them.
Just a suggestion anyhow.

No, I just want one question with an intuitive answer (like the one you just posted) rather than a group of more relatively obscure questions that might stumble a causal visitor wanting to join the forums.

I'm all for more obscure questions.......

*Who won the 199x San Diego Imaginary Mario Grand Prix?

*What does butter taste like?

*If you kill a mime and nobody sees you, does he make a sound?

*What is HYPER's favourite colour?

*Only WHO can prevent forest fires?

Captcha’s don’t work. If the bot can’t read them, it will automatically send the image back to a company who hires people just to read captcha’s for spambot registration.

When completing the title, such as “Mario G…”, the software accepts both ‘alaxy’ and ‘Galaxy’.

Also for the Q&A system to work effectively, it needs multiple questions with different answers that rotate each time you access the registration screen, otherwise it's just going to be as ineffactive as the captcha system.

Anus scanners can't come quick enough as far as I'm concerned.
